Passenger side low beam buld was out. bought replacement bulbs but none of them worked. inspected harness and it appears that the connector is melted/damaged somehow.

I changed out the front right headlight. after i changed it out, roughly two days later the same light was out again. i checked the light, light was fine but wire harness was not working properly. after playing with the placement of the harness, i was able to get the light to work again. but light has not stayed on longer than two days without me having to work on it in some way. *tr

My driver's side low beam headlight was replaced about 2 mths ago. the light went out again. i took it into a repair shop and they said the harness was melted!! i looked this up online for a recall and found nothing. however, i did find that numerous people have experienced the same thing. any time something on a vehicle is melting... i would think this should be a huge safety issue. considering it has happened over and over to many people, i would think that it would also be a recall. it cost me well over $100. i feel that i should be reimbursed for this. thanks. *tr

Started car after work, right headlight did not come on. took it into the shop, had it replaced, $165. two weeks later left head light went out. a week after, right headlight went out again. took car into shop and paid double for both to be replaced. one month later left headlight went out again. was told by mechanic that harness for headlight had melted and needs replacing as well. have invested almost $700 in headlight repair in 12 weeks. *tr

1st incident: 10/02/2011 i was merging on to the highway, when i noticed my headlights became dim. i noticed by the reflection on the car in front of me that my driver side headlamp was out so i stop to buy a set of replacement bulbs. as i got in the car to go home from the auto part store, i noticed the driverside headlamp had came back on. 2nd incident: 10/20/2011 as i was driving down the road, i noticed driver side headlamp flicker and go out. i figure it was a blown bulb but i turned the headlamps switch off and back on, and the driver side headlamp came back on. *tr

I have replaced my drivers side headlamp 3 times in the last 3 months. i have read about problems with the wiring harness on these vehicles, where some have melted. mine does not appear melted, or at least wasn't the third time i replaced it, but now this morning the headlamp burned out again. without confidence in my headlamps, i am hesitant to drive at night.
10/18/2011
The driver's side headlight will work for awhile but then it will appear to be burnt out. the same thing has happened to the passenger side headlight several times. the lights will start working again (at least temporarily) when i switch from the auto light setting to manual and back again. i have read on several different websites that this is a common problem with the cause being the wiring harness for the lights. this appears to be a defect in the parts/materials used and should have a recall on it. i can't afford to pay what the dealership is asking to repair it, so for now i can't do any night time driving without getting a traffic citation/ticket.

I had my car looked at by the local mechanic to find out the headlight assembly on the passenger side has went bad. my car is out of warranty so its not covered. it seems this has been a frequent problem with this car and this should be a recall.

My passenger headlight went out and before i put a new bulb in, it came back on for a week.my headlight then went out and stayed out.when i went to change the bulb, i saw the black wire insulation on the harness was melted and also the plastic of the bulb contact was melted.i have worked with electrical wiring for 30 years and believe the wire size is too small for the current that the headlight draws.

Driver side headlight works intermittently. gm dealer instructed me that the wiring harness was broken at the plug where it plugs into the light socket. it seems that there are other owners experiencing the same problem and do not about this sight to file the complaint. i have read on other forums and know this for sure and if there is a problem then the national safety board should make a recall on the issue and have everyone's problem taking care of.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 saturn outlook. the contact stated that the daytime running lights were inoperable. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing where she was informed that the driver side headlight was melted. since the headlight socket wiring harness failed, it caused the head beam light to fail and the contact was advised that the failure could result in an electrical fire. the manufacturer was contacted but did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was no longer under warranty. no repairs were performed. the current and the failure mileages were 65,000. the vin was unavailable.

The left low beam headlight had to be replaced about 3 weeks after we bought vehicle. it is now a year and a half later and the light is out again. the light they took out wasn't even bad, so it is a problem with the wiring harness and very expensive.
09/24/2011117000
Headlight went out -started to change light and it came back on. went out again and took to the car to the dealer for repair -it was not headlight - wiring harness/wiring melted and exposed the wiring. this problem is so common in saturn outlooks that i was able to do an internet search and tell the dealer the service bulletin number of the problem. this problem is not from use, abuse, but from a flaw in wiring that i feel is a safety issue. a recall needs to be issued before more problems/fires occur and results in serious injury. also -- it will be one week ago tomorrow since the dealer ordered the parts and still have not received them. my vehicle has no front headlight - i have four children and need transportation large enough for 6 so we have to drive it unsafely without a headlight.
10/08/201156000
Drivers side low beam went out. known problem. its all over the forums. many cases of the same issue. supposedly it is the wiring harness going to the headlamp. there has been cases of it melting which could cause fire. saturn/gm doesn't care. contacted numerous dealers and every one of them is trying to rip me off. what does it take to get a recall on this? death? gm needs to make this right.

About a month ago, the headlights on the drivers side of my 2007 outlook xr started experiencing intermittent operation. i tried to take it into the shop once, but by then they had come back on. a few weeks later, both of my headlights went out. this time, i had the shop look further into the problem. as it turned out, both of the headlight harnesses were completely melted and my mechanic reported that one even appeared to have caught fire. we had to pay to replace the headlight assemblies because there has not been a recall issued for our outlook, even though i have seen online reports of this sort of problem. i was told that the new headlight assemblies are much sturdier and that this problem shouldn't reoccur, however, i feel that gm should have been the one to pay for the repair. obviously there was an issue with the metal and/or wiring on the first headlight harnesses. i would like to see gm issue a recall on these and for us to be reimbursed for the cost we've already incurred.

My drivers side headlight went out. i purchased a new one and when i installed it, it did not work. i checked the connection more thouroughly and found the connector melted on one side. the copper connecter was black and the surrounding black plastic brittle and misshapen. you cannot replace the wire harness without removing the composite light fixture which looks like you need to remove the front bumper assembly. the average car owner would have a difficult time just replacing the low beam lamp. the high beam lamp requires disassembly. of the composite headlamp unit. the wires are thin on the lighting harness and should be recalled. there are numerous reports of the same problem and gm needs to do something about it.

For 2007 saturn outlooks, a faulty design of the wiring harness for front headlights causes the harness to melt and the headlights to stop working. personally, i was required to have both harnesses replaced after my headlights stopped working. the first melted harness (passenger side) was replaced at 61,603 miles on 12/19/2010 and the second at 70,188 miles on 7/26/2011. i have personally seen the melted plastic connection from my second repair. this is a known issue reported in several online forums and my second repair technician explained to me that a revised design is available for replacement harnesses and he installed the newer version. i do not know if the first harness that i paid to have replaced was replaced with the original design (which may require future replacement) or was done with the revised design - it was done at a gm dealer who charged me and arm and a leg for the repair. the manufacturer has failed to recognize or address this issue and compensate owners who have already paid out of pocket for repairs. gm should be liable for the cost of the parts, labor, mileage driven to/from repair facilities and inconvenience associated with these repairs, which has so far totalled in the hundreds of dollars.

I have researched on various online forums and found that many owners of saturn outlooks and gmc acadias are having the same problem of wiring harnesses to the headlamps melting. this requires a replacement of the wiring harness, which must be done at the dealer since the only way to access the wiring is to remove the front tire and the wheel well.

12/01/201085000
About 6 months ago the low beams on both sides worked intermittently, recently they have failed altogether causing us to drive at night with no other option than to use the high beams, for which we have been pulled over by authorities twice. once i removed the interior fender to assess the problem, i notice the entire wire harness has been completely burned and melted. i am in the process of deciding to take it to the dealership or try a repair on my own to save the cost.

Passenger low beam headlight went out, and wiring was found to be melted, gm has not issued a recall after multiple failures,, and now wondering if driving this vehicle is safe as it could catch fire( wires getting hot enough to mel in to)

Approximately mid-year 2009, the right side low-beam head light went out on my 2007 saturn outlook. the bulb was replaced with an after-market bulb but to my surprise, the light went out again within 2-3 weeks. upon taking the vehicle to the saturn dealership, the entire right front head light area was replaced as the background wiring had completely melted. the cost was over $500. the vehicle was under warranty at the time, hence there was no cost to me. on saturday, july 2, 2011 however, the same right side head light went out again. upon taking the vehicle to the gm dealership on wednesday july 6, 2011, i am now told that the coils have completely melted again and the cost this time to me is $212. this is absolutely ridiculous! this has got to be a manufacturer defect as i am concerned with what is actually getting so very hot that is melting the coils. i am more concerned that this type of heat could potentially cause a fire. something must be done to prevent an unnecessary tragedy/accident.

2007 saturn outlook passenger side headlamp connection has melted 3 lamp housings and this time melted the vehicle wiring and caught fire.

Headlights of one side keeps flickering on and off. sometimes they do not come on at all. occurs everynight. we just bought the vehicle from steven toyota on this past saturday, 06/17/11, where they said they couldn't do anything to help us.

Driver side head light went out went to change bulb and noticed the wire were starting to melt so took it to dealer and told them to fix it they said when went to pick it up it was just bulb so i told them it was bad wiring harness they said no 1 week later back at dealership with no head light wiring harness melted all the way through into 2 pieces fualty wiring harness needs addressed by gm
05/01/201165000
Headlight wiring harness melted due to high current draw. rendered headlight inoperable and could have caused larger fire. this seems to be a very common occurence on saturn outlooks.
03/15/201163000
Headlight has failed 3 times. each time the bulb melted the harness. the first two occasions were covered under warranty. the third occasion was at 63,000 and was not covered and will cost $415 to repair.

2007 saturn outlook, headlight wiring harness. i had my wiring harness replaced on 10/1/08 for the passenger side light and my driver side replaced on 5/10/10 and now my passanger side is out again. headlight wiring harness' should last longer than two years. i have yet to get this replaced because it is costly to have to replace this offten.

My 2007 outlook experienced headlight outage at approx. 32,000 miles the saturn dealer changed the melted harness and replaced the bulb here we are less that 4 months later and i have another headlight outage and pay $300 + to an authorized dealer to change the melted wires and replace the bulb. 3 months later we are back to the healight being out and the dealer ready to charge me another $300+ to correct the problem. i have noted multiple complaints of the same problem by multiple consumers in various states. i don't feel that i should have to keep paying for a problem that appears to be well documented by saturn outlook owners. i have placed a call to gm and of course no help from them all they want to do is push the responsibility and cost back to the consumer.

Passenger headlight went off at highway speeds. went to replace bulb and found socket was charred and burnt. bulb was still good, when bench tested. this was the oe bulb, not a higher current/power aftermarket bulb. currently driving with only one headlight, while waiting for dealer to get me a new harness. obviously, gm is aware of the problem, since tsb #09-08-42-004 instructs using nyogel grease to fill the socket, i assume for thermal conductivity or corrosion protection. socket replacement should be done on recall, and dealers should keep harness on order, so i don't have to drive with only one headlight.

I have a 2007 outlook, about a year ago, passenger side headlight went out...took to shop to replace, worked fine for about another 8 months. now passenger side headlight out again, been replaced by shop 3 times... light works at dealership but is out again by time we get home. now drivers side light is out also. this issue needs to be addressed because not everybody can afford 4-6 hundred dollars to have headlights changed every week. nor should they have to.

Headlight goes out. this has happened on both lights a total of four times. june 2008, september 2008, june, 2010, march 2011. was told by dealer it is the wiring harness.
03/14/201166000
The drivers side daytime running lamp has gone out. i have tried to change the bulb only to find that it is extremely diffucult to access. after reading numerous complaints regarding the headlights i am not alone in my problem. i have not taken my vehicle in for service, but it sounds like the wire harness is a major safety hazzard.

Passenger side headlamp inoperable. wiring harness connector to headlamp burnt/melted. gm has a tsb #09-08-42-004 on the issue which should be upgraded to a recall. this condition could cause a fire and is safety related since it affects the headlamp system.

I have a 2007 saturn outlook xr, which has had the headlight wiring harness replaced on the passenger side in 2009. now in march of 2011 i took the car in for an oil change and on my way there just happen to notice the headlight was out. the chevy dealership said it was the same thing as the other side, the wiring was completely melted and the whole thing would have to be replaced. i was lucky enough to have most of it covered by my extended warranty, but i was still out my deductible and i had to pay for the lightbulb. when i had the first headlamp replaced the technician informed me it was very dangerous and could have started a fire. this seems like something gm should be aware of and shold look into, before someone gets hurt. i was actually under the impression that the first dealership, which was a saturn, replaced both of my headlamps, but chevy is informing me that is not the case. so i am not sure who is telling the truth.

I have a 2007 saturn outlook and both of my headlights and all of the related wiring have been replaced because the wires melted. in all my years, i've never had to replace headlight wiring. this does not seem to be a standard maintenance item. so i assume this is the result of poor manufacturing or design. i've had my car serviced at an authorzed gm dealership and i've spent approximately $600 on this issue.

Driver side low beam headlight started shutting off intermittently and later constant off. determined not to be a bulb failure but heat damage to the wiring harness at the bulb connector. talked to gm dealer service department and told the wiring harness will need to be replaced for both headlights due to this damage. also told that they are seeing this on a number of outlooks. this problem renders low beam headlights inoperable.

I have had to replace the driver's side headlamp on my 2007 saturn outlook 7 times, and the entire assemly once, i was told there was a wiring problem, causing a short. this is obvioulsy a safty issue, as the headlamps shoudl not fail at this rate.

Passenger headlight problems, multiple trips to dealership to fix, still not working, appears wiring harness is melted. other saturn outlook owners have had this problem.

Left headlamp works intermitently. can never depend on it working or not. both headlamps when they are both working are very dim on low beam but seem to get brighter after about an hour of being on.

My 2007 saturn outlook xe headlights started going out but then on and then went completely out simultaneously with in a few weeks. when i researched on the internet on how to change the lamp, i found that the wiring harness for the headlights on all model years of saturn outlook, gmc acadia, buick enclave, and chevrolet traverse have a similar problem of the headlight wiring harness melting and failing. there is a technical service bulletin concerning the defect ( saturn tsb #09-08-42-004) stating that the harness should be replaced (with the same harness, so the problem continues) and nyogel gel should be used at the electrical connection point. the melting wiring harness is a fire hazard.

As many other owners of 2007 saturn outlooks have reported, the wiring for both headlights have melted, leaving me without headligts. this is a very dangerous situation for all motorists since the incident can occur at night when headlights are a must. replacing the wiring harness and connector with the same factory wiring and connectors that gm supplies you with per the tsb, is not a correct fix. this will lead to a future failure, and melting wiring and plastic components could potentially cause a fire. this is dangerous and gm knows there is a problem. the factory needs to have a recall and have all components upgraded to ones that will handle the voltage required to run the headlights. i seriously hope there are no fires or accidents that cause any injury before gm decides to do something about this problem. it's bad enough that people are having to repeatedly spend their money to mask a problem that does nothing but come back at a later date.

2007 saturn outlook. driver side low beam headlight continuously develops problems. first, light starts operating intermittently; then, eventually fails completely. the first time it happened, i replaced the bulb (difficult operation accessed through the wheel well). it worked well for a few weeks, then failed again. after reading others' experiences, the next time it happened, i inspected the socket and saw visible charring on the contacts. so, i replaced the socket with an aftermarket part and replaced the bulb. it functioned well for about 3 months, and now the headlight is internittent again, leaning towards failing completely again. this has been infuriating because the exact onset of the problem is unpredictable and has already caused me a nys equipment violation ticket. plus, from what i can see, it is a potential fire hazard and certainly a safety hazard as far as driving at night with only one (or possibly no) functioning headlight(s). i cannot change sockets and bulbs every 2-3 months and am worried that the car is unsafe because of the obvious wiring harness issues. i know saturn is out of business, but we need a safety recall to protect consumers like me who are stuck with an unsafe car. the new gm should pay for a recall.

Saturn outlook 2007 headlights keep going out and i cant see at night. each time it cost over $600 to fix. it said it is the wiring harness and it is burnt. this seems to be a major safety issue as it can cause a fire and not to mention limited visibility to see at night!

After less than a year old, the driver side headlight assembly on my 2007 outlook needed to be replaced. the dealership did the necessary repairs under warranty. in july 2010, i had a headlight out on the passenger side. i brought my car back to the dealership accepting saturns since saturn had now closed. i ws told that the headlight harness had melted. i paid a hefty fee to had that repaired. in october 2010, the same thing happened to the driver's side healight harness. the dealership offered no suggestion on to how to keep this from re-occurring. furthermore, ihave had to have air bled from the closed power steering line 3 times. also, the stabilitrac system will occasionally turn itself off causing the car to lose power on turns.

Left low beam headlight on my 2007 saturn outlook failed for the third time in three months at approx 40000 miles. from other reports on same issue it appears the wiring harness/socket assembly may be faulty and needs to be replaced; but parts are reportedly hard to get and the harness/socket has not been fixed. this is a safety issue and should be addressed by our government owned company, general motors.

2007 saturn outlook has a known problem with headlight wiring burning resulting in loss of low beam headlight functionality. my incident occurred on the right low beam headlamp socket. the headlight would go out and come back on intermittently for several months before becoming completely nonoperational. after discovering on the internet that this was a common complaint among others owning this vehicle, i called gm customer service. i took it into an authorized dealer per their request and they diagnosed the problem as a corroded socket. since i was sure the socket was plastic i questioned this but went ahead and had them order me a new socket and replace both the socket and the light bulb. i asked for the old socket back. upon inspection, the old socket was clearly melted and had blackened burned areas on the wiring. the socket was burned to the point that it would no longer hold the headlight bulb. replacement with parts and labor was approx $200. reported issue to saturn, provided them with copies of other customer complaints around same issue from other saturn outlook owners. i suggested that headlights going out intermittently could be a safety issue as is burning wires. they were unable to reimburse me and did not feel a recall was in order. i read on the internet that there was a service alert issued for this same problem but my particular vehicle was not covered under that alert based on the vin per gm. i have the old socket and light bulb that was replaced. potential safety issue as loss of headlight functionality is sudden and intermittent.

Passenger side headlamp on 2007 outlook failed to turn on. had limited visibility during night time. i replaced the bulb thinking it had simply burnt out, within a couple of hours the new bulb also went out. i decided to look closer at the connector and discovered the h9 female connector had a melted female connecter and wire. i have been pulled over a few times by various police since the light went out and each time i have to explain what happened. while searching the internet for a new replacement part and instruction on repair (all saturn dealers have closed and remaining gm dealerships are not close or convenient) when i read about other owners going through the same problems. the replacement parts are the same inadequate components that have failed in the past. sudden loss of headlights at night could result in many accidents resulting in severe injury or death. the drivers would be unable to see the road, obstacles, or pedestrians if the lights were to go out while driving on an unlit street or road. i have replaced the bulb three times before noticing the melted connector as the head light assembly is only accessible through the wheel wells. the space is very limited and very difficult to work in making it very difficult to see the failed connector.

I own a 2007 saturn outlook xe and am having issues with the low beam headlamps on both the driver and passenger sides. my passenger headlamp went out 2 weeks ago for the third time and today my drivers side headlamp went out for the second time. the second time the passenger lamp went out i inspected it and found that the wiring harness had melted just below the retention cap. the wires were replaced and the new bulb lasted approximately 5 months. i inspected the drivers side harness today and have found that it too has melted. this would appear to me to be an electrical problem and may lead to a fire in the engine compartment.

2007 saturn outlook drivers side headlight went out on 6/15/10 enroute from or to co. took to out of town dealer to repair & found the harness wiring had melted. dealer said takes a week to get part & should take care of when i get back home. called dealer @ home and is 7 to 10 days to get part. also said i am out of warranty and would have to pay for part plus labor to install. out of town dealer in co said there have been numerous reports of harness failures but no recall issued yet.

Both headlights (low beams) go out at random times and come back on at random times. one or both headlights could be out at any given time. i had one bulb replaced at a cost of $94, however it hasn't fixed the problem. this is especially an issue at night when headlights are needed for driving. i have tried using the manual on/off for the lights, but it doesn't work. if the lights are out, i can't get them to come back on unless someone gets under the car, reaches up and spins the bulb or adjusts a wire to the point that the light comes back on.

My lowbeam headlight went out in my 2007 saturn outlook. i replaced the light and it went out again a day later. i took the car in to the dealership the wiring harness is melted and the wiring going into the harness is burnt. this is due to too much voltage causing the harness to melt. this has been a problem with many saturn outlooks it has yet to be a recall. this is not only a manufacture issue but a safety issue as it could result in a fire. the wiring harness is no longer available so the whole headlight has to be replaced to correct the problem.
04/28/201065200
While driving at night my 2007 saturn outlook the passenger low beam went out. upon opening the hood when i stopped i noticed the distinct odor of burnt plastic. upon further evaluation while removing the bulb i observed that the insulation for the wiring harness had melted off and shorted at the interface between the wire and connector. the contact for the bulb also exhibited charring at the connector contact. an internet search for a replacement bulb alerted me that there is a service bulletin (09-08-42-004) addressing the replacement of this harness should the headlight fail. i feel this is a oem design flaw and safety issue since the harness can short out to the point to where the insulation is melted completely off exposing bare wires.
04/17/201055923
Passenger side headlamp went out. assumed it was just a burned bulb but when taken to the dealership was advised that the headlamp wiring harness had actually melted. the harness and bulb were replaced at a cost of over $300 which neither gm nor the dealership were willing to cover, despite the fact that not only could it be a fire/safety hazard but that the company is fully aware of it as they issued a tsb in regards to the issue (tsb #09-08-42-004 low beam headlamp replacement/diagnosis (inspect fuse, bulb, harness, replace harness and fill connector cavity for low beam bulb connector with nyogel grease) - (may 29, 2009). document id: 2284787. applies to models 2007-2009 saturn outlook) this is clearly a design flaw that needs to be addressed since numerous customers have posted similar occurences on forums (ie: http://www.saturnoutlookforum.net/index.php?topic=818.60). a customer's headlights going out during a night drive would be extremely dangerous, not to mention the potential fire hazard.

Low beam headlight wiring issue. first the passenger side low beam went out while on vacation, it was repaired at the saturn dealership in kelowna, bc can. they told me the pigtail assembly did a meltdown. now the drivers side has gone out i replaced the bulb and that lasted about 24 hours and it burned again, the service shop i took it to told me saturn told them they would have to replace the entire headlight assembly to the tune of about $600 + dollars!!!! to repair a headlight!!!!! it is almost impossible for a normal man to get his hand in the area of the rear of the headlight to change the bulb which i think is ridiculous but that's another story. this problem from what i am hearing is a common problem with outlook owners and in my opinion constitutes a recall notice to all outlook owners?? *tr

We have a 07 saturn outlook that has a wiring problem with the drivers side headlight that has been going on for a year or so and began when our vehicle was at approx 38,000 miles. we have changed the bulb several times but it burns out within a week or two of replacing it. the wiring is melted at the socket for the light bulb. we took it in to dealer and was told we would have to replace the entire headlamp unit and that it would cost approx $500.00 - $600.00 to do so and that it was not covered under any warranty, nor where there any recalls. we have tried to find the part at several auto part stores (rielly's, autozone) but nobody sells it. i have talked to others who have the same problem and the service agent at the dealer said they see a lot of these. *tr

I bought a 2007 saturn outlook in july of 2007. since then my passenger side headlight harness has melted twice and now my driver side harness is melted. the first time i had it fixed saturn arrange for it to be free of charge however they are refusing to help again and now i have no headlights. these wire harnesses should not melt and i believe are caused by a much bigger problem and am fearful for my safety driving in a car with wiring issues. my passenger side went out in december of 2008 then again in november of 2009 and now the driver side went out january 13, 2010. *tr

My 2007 saturn outlook headlight went out. when researched on the internet on how to change the lamp, i found that the wiring harness for the headlights on all model years of saturn outlook, gmc acadia, buick enclave, and chevrolet traverse have a similar problem of the headlight wiring harness melting and failing. there is a technical service bulletin concerning the defect ( saturn tsb #09-08-42-004) stating that the harness should be replaced (with the same harness, so the problem continues) and nyogel gel should be used at the electrical connection point. the melting wiring harness is a fire hazard. i have the harness if you want it. *tr
