This is the third time in 2 years i've had a headlight failure with my 2008 saturn outlook. first incident occurred in 2010, and most recently a few days ago in jan 2013. there should be no reason for these headlights to fail so frequently. they need to be improved so it does not keep happening. it is a costly repair and could be dangerous if both fail while driving. *tr

The low beam headlight went out on the vehicle. i went to autozone to purchase the headlight replacement when i was told that it could possibly be two different headlights that i would need to bring the broken one so they can sell me a replacement. i found out that it is not very easy to replace the headlight on this vehicle as several other parts have to be removed in order to get to the headlight connector. i found instructions and several complaints from owners indicating they have replaced the headlight several times during the year only to be told by dealers that the harness/connector are burned and that is the cause of the problem. i proceeded to remove the underliner of the tire to get to the headlight on my vehicle. as suspected, the connector and wire harness were burned. i found several service bulletins instructing dealers to check and replace the harness and headlight on these vehicles. when i called saturn i was informed that the dealership had replaced the headlight in my vehicle on april 2011...however they never informed me of this change. right now my wife is driving this vehicle without a headlight as saturn is refusing to replace the burned harness that i found on the car. this is not only a safety issue, but a fire hazard on the vehicle. this should be a mandatory recall by now....it is not just happening on saturn outlooks, it is also happening on gmc acadias which is exactly the same car..... *tr

The passenger side running light went out. i had the bulb replaced. about a month later the same light went out again. i had the light taken out and was told the wiring harness was melted and had caused the bulb to go out. so i now have to replace the wiring harness for that side. i have also been told by other saturn outlook owners that is a common problem with most of them. *tr

I bought a used 2008 saturn outlook. the passenger side head light/daytime light went out. changed the bulb and check the fuse in november 2011 and it went out again in february 2012. the mechanic has told me that this was due to a short in the headlight and not the wiring harness. i have not had to change a headlight/daytime light in any of my prior vehicles and now i'm on my 3rd replacement for this headlight in less than 6 months--something is not right!

Passenger side wiring harness melted. cost me 200.00 dollars to repair. not covered under extended warranty. have studied and found that i can probably expect this to happen again. am worried about future expense and, or fire...... would appreciate your assistance. thank you in advance.

We own two 2008 saturn outlooks. both had headlight failures in the first 6 months of ownership. both had the headlight assemblies replaced. after approximately 3 years of ownership the headlights (non-brights) on both are failing, and it is not the bulbs. mechanic jiggles the wires and headlights come on only to fail less than a week later. numerous online searches show the harness to be at fault, with indications that the replacement part has been re-engineering to address the known defect.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 saturn outlook. the contact stated that the driver's side headlight shut off while driving 75 mph. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and the contact was informed that the wiring harness needed to be replaced. the wiring harness was replaced under warranty. the same failure occurred on the front passenger side approximately eleven months later. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer to have the failure repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered to cover half of the expenses. the failure mileage was 55,000. the vin was unavailable.

In early september, my front passenger side headlight was not working. upon inspection by a local mechanic, the wiring harness was melted. i understand that several other saturn outlook owners have reported the same problem. electrical tape was applied and a new bulb was installed. two months later, the problem occurred again.
02/01/2010
Headlight wiring on the saturn outlook models fails prematurely as the housing melts and causing the headlights to fail. this is a safety issue for the lights, could be a fire hazard, however, i have not experienced that. i would think this impacts the chevy traverse and gmc acadia too.
12/03/201156000
Passenger headlight fails intermittently. appears to be due not to the bulb, but due to sub-grade wiring harness that melts over time.
05/02/201050000
Front headlight on right side stopped working, replaced low beam bulb, lasted about 2 weeks, repalced it a 2nd time, again lasting about 1 week. brought to dealer, they stated that it was a faulty wirng harness to the head light and is not covered under warranty. brought vehichle to another dealer, who replaced wiring harness on right side under warranty. now the left side is out and replaced bulb that lasted 1 day. wiring harness needs replacement, which i am told is excess of $500.00. as warranty is now expired. both wiring harnesses should have been repalced at the same time, gm knows of this problem and should have a recall of all model with these lighting problems.

The passenger side headlight is not functioning. i have checked into replacing it and it will cost $100 for one replacement headlamp! i have also heard there is a problem with the wiring harness for this make/model/year, and it is very difficult to even access the light assembly. this is ridiculous.
11/10/201035000
At approximately 35000 miles, the passenger side low beam headlamp stopped lighting. i assumed that the headlamp had blown, and left it alone until my state inspection was due, 2 months later. when i finally attempted to replace the bulb, i learned that the bulb was fine, but the harness had failed, and my 36000 mile warranty had expired.closer inspection revealed that the wiring harness on the passenger side low beam headlamp had melted, where the wires enter into the lamp base, and are held into the base with a poured plastic bakelite type sealer, like the type seen poured over circuit boards, to prevent tampering. i accessed that socket, and cut the factory socket off of the wire harness. i replaced the socket with one that i purchased online, which was of a much heavier gauge than the inferior gauge of wire that came from the factory. it is now 1 year later, and the exact same thing has occurred on the driver's side. when i hold the factory lamp socket in my hand, and bend the wires at the socket base, the bulb works only intermittently, as if the copper wire inside the insulation has degraded so severely that a good contact can no longer be maintained. i have not yet ordered a replacement socket for the driver's side, and dread the labor that is involved in removing the tire, dropping the fender cowl, cutting the factory harness away from the factory lamp base, and rewiring the new lamp base to the factory harness.it is labor intensive, and it is dangerous. it is clear to me that the heat build up from the bulb, in combination with the undersized wiring entering the base, has created a melt hazard, which subsequently allows moisture into the copper strand wire, allowing the copper to corrode significantly, and ultimately the copper disintegrates completely, losing its connection altogether.

The headlight burned out. when i went to replace it i noticed the wire was burnt. after reading on the internet, many people have this problem with saturn outlook. should be a recall. i have 40, 000 miles and my warranty just expired. this is my wife's car, please dont wait until there is a fire or someone is injured to do a recall.

Discovered the drivers side harness had melted when changing the dim headlamp.

The headlamp on my 2008 saturn ourlook has gone out multiple times over the last two years that i have owned the vehicle. i have had to have the wiring harness replaced more than 3 times. the first time the new harness lasted a couple of months. the last two times, it only lasted about a week before burning up again. the harness that holds the lamp gets too hot and melts which is an electrical safety issue.

My 2008 saturn outlook lost both headlights in december 2010 within a couple of days of each other. the dealer informed us the bulbs had burned out and when they burned out they burned/corroded the wiring harnesses connected to them, necessitating a $200 repair. less than a year later, in november 2011, the right headlight went out again. when we took it to the dealer on november 4, 2011, they informed us the bulb had burned out and the harness had burned out again, and said the repair would be more than $200. we have seen this problem documented by many saturn owners on saturn fan sites, and also read to contact nhtsa to notify you of this common and potentially dangerous safety problem with the saturn outlook so that you could consider ordering gm to recall these vehicles. i hope you will order a recall and order gm to solve an unnecessary design problem that is a nuisance at best and could potentially lead to a fire or lost visibility that could result in accidents at worst. thank you for your consideration.

The drivers side headlamp failed. i purchased a new lamp with a direct replacement, same wattage and type. during replacement, i noticed that the connector was discolored and plastic was starting to melt. i cleaned the connector and replaced the lamp. two weeks later the same lamp failed. the connector was melted further, rendering it unsuable. i had to replace the connector assembly. the wire is very thin and i have read other reports that the wires had melted.

My passenger headlight doens't work replace headlight (not an easy task) still didn't work. called the dealer they said would have to take off the bumper to replace the light. i can't understand why should need to take the car to dealer for replacement of a light. have read about the sme problems people sre having with there lights. the harness apparently burned out and now it will cost a small fortune to get fixed since i'm out of warrantee. please look into it is very dangerous to have the light to go out while driving. thank you. think there should be a recall to have the harness replaced. thanks

The headlights went out while i was driving home in the early evening, reducing my visability and the ability for others to see my vehicle. fortunately, it wasn't night yet and i was still able to navigate home, however had it been just an hour later it would have been completely dark and siginificantly more unsafe for this incident to have occurred. the wiring harness is a known defect by gm and steps should be taken to remedy it. this can create unsafe road conditions for saturn outlook drivers.

Headlight on drivers side has failed 5 times since 7/7/2010. awful to change. must remove tire & fender cover. it must be a widespread problem since a company named, racing lab offers an upgrade kit heavy duty model kyo-pnp-wh-h11. the upgrade kit offers protection from factory headlight connector from melting and burning out the halogen headlight bulb.

My right headlight burned out and we replaced it after a huge struggle as it is very difficult to get to. then about a month later, my left headlight burned out, so we replaced it with the same degree of difficulty. however, when i replaced this one, the harness (?) or component you put the bulb in appeared black and burnt. my headlight worked fine for about a week and it burned out again. i hate to keep replacing headlights if there is a problem with the harness, which is evident by searching on the internet for information about replacing the headlights in the saturn outlooks. it takes a great deal of time and effort just to get to the bulb changed only to have it continue to burn out after a very short period of time. i really believe there should be a recall on these headlight harnesses as the company should fix the problem. i have contacted saturn and was told i would have to pay to take it to a gmc dealer and have an evaluation done on the vehicle. i am very upset with gm about this.

Upon inspection,i noticed that the passenger front head lamp was inoperative. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, and a technician concluded that wiring harness had melted and caused the bulb to fail. he then added that the other head lamp would soon fail. the vehicle was repaired at an expense of$ 360.00. the failure mileage was 40,000.

Driver side headlamp went out pulling out of driveway. took vehicle to dealer who informed us it was a known issue with the headlamp harness not bulb. harness was melted and scorched. ordered new improved harness and replaced. passenger side harness experienced same failure ordered new improved harness and replaced in july. all repairs and replacement cost were not covered under warranty and i had to pay for all out of pocket costs. on october 3rd passenger side harness burned out again. have to purchase new part and replace for the 3rd time. this could have been very dangerous it if happened while driving at night. the fact that harness is scorched and melting also concerns me. i am afraid of the risk posed to myself and my family as we use this vehicle to transport our 2 young children daily.

First left headlight was going in and out. was pulled over by police who said it was out. turned car off then on and light came on. took it to dealer was replaced for malfunction, defect repaired for free at 20000 miles. then parked car nose first. was unable to reverse car out of parking space. had to wait for car in front to move to so i could dirve out forward only. car drove forward for 1 week, then completly was unable to drive. was towed to dealer at 39000 miles and transmission had to be replaced for free, covered by warranty. then right headlight was going in and out at 44000 miles. not covered. fixed for $300. then at that time was told powersteering unit leaking and needed to be replaced for approx $800.00. now engine light is on. this car is the worse car i ever had, and i had many. what next. my 1999 ford windstar is a better car..

Low beam headlight, passenger side, stopped working, dealer found it to be an intermittent problem, lights came back on. listed as a wire harness issue. three months later , same issue. this issue has occured numerous times now both headlights are out. both headlights are still good, checked on another gm vehicle ( acadia ). fuse is good, no connectivity between harness and light, no power at end of harness. this is an ongoing problem. saturn is out of business, dealer refuses to fix without charging a small fortune of money. low beams are still out.

Passenger side low beam headlight was out. we purchased a new bulb, when my husband went to replace the bulb he found a wire exposed and the plug in was burnt. the socket is the cause so now we have to buy a new socket. i think this dangerous, it looks as if it could possibly cause a fire.

I have a 2008 saturn outlook which i purchased new. i have had multiple problems with the front headlight wiring harness burning out/melting. this has happened twice to both headlights. the first time this happened i was able to have the dealer (gm at that time) fix the problem under warranty. the last 3 times i have had to pay for this myself since the vehicle was no longer under warranty. gm was willing to fix it, but not cover the cost, so i took it to my local repair shop because it was less expensive there.

Passenger headlight not working on the 2008 saturn outlook xe. this vehicle only has 33,000 miles on it, so i'm quite surprised that it has already stopped working. i've read on other websites that there is a possible issue with the wiring harness being faulty and melting. this concerns me due to the fact that this lightbulb and wiring harness is not an easy part to replace.

I have a 2008 saturn outlook, on 7/26/11 my driver side headlamp bulb went out. after i looked at it closely, the harness was chared and melted. this was the second time this has happend to the driver side headlamp. the first time happend at 21,000 miles, very early for something like this to happen. i called the dealer and they quoted me on three parts if needed: bulb $18; harness $40; headlamp assembly $377. something is wrong with that headlamp wiring that has cause this problem again and im not the only one. this shouldn't be happening to a fairly new vehicle. gm needs to fix this issue if they expect custumers to be loyal and continue buying their vehicles. this might be my last gm vehicle.

Vehicle headlight bulb on passenger side blew out. thought the bulb was just blown. found the wire harness had melted also. found on the internet this a well known issue, with the harnesses melting.. fire could have occurred in my opinion. vehicle out of warranty, so dealer wont cover. service bulletin available but vehicle out of warranty
07/15/201137800
My headlight burned out on my 2008 saturn outlook. i tried to replace it and it still didn't work. i had a shop replace it thinking that i touched the bulb and was told that the socket/harness was melted and some of the wires beyond that were exposed. i called the dealer and this is not covered under extended warranty and was told that even if fixed, would happen over and over because the bulb is too hot and melts the wiring. i think this is a design issue and should be recalled. there are thousands of claims of this happening exactly the same way so it is a design flaw and should be dealt with by gm. i have since gotten pulled over and issued a citation for no headlight but don't have the outrageous amount of money to replace all components and pay labor charges of 1.6 hours plus. this is dangerous due to loss of headlights for visibility, intermittent working of headlights, which if both went out could leave me stranded with four kids, and the exposed wire could cause an engine fire or short that could damage other components or the whole vehicle. so as of this message i still only have one working headlight (which may burn out soon too if its too hot for the wires) and am waiting for my next ticket......

In june of 2010, the right headlight went out on my 2008 saturn outlook. after taking to the dealer, it was discovered that the wiring harness had melted ! the harness was replaced at that time. while on vacation this july, 2011, and 800 miles from home, the left headlight is working when it wants to. after reading several other complaints, i am quite concerned about this problem and fearful of a fire. my vehicle has approx. 45,000 miles on it at this time. of course, the bumper to bumper warranty has expired. i feel that this matter should be checked into and repairs should be done at no cost to the customer. a recall is needed immediately !

I have a 2008 saturn outlook that has a faulty headlight. at first, i thought it was a bulb and purchased a new one. then, it went out again a few week later. did the same thing again, purchased a bulb and replaced it. that went out shorty also. finally had to take to dealer. turns out to be a faulty wiring harness and it costs hundreds of dollars to fix. because i was out of my bumper to bumper warranty by that time the fix was not covered even though it was under warranty when it first was a problem. my warranty expired during the time i wasted with changing bulbs. based on my research this has been a chronic known problem for gm for several years, yet gm has not resolved the situation with a recall.

I purchased a 2008 saturn outlook in february of 2011. my passenger healdamp (low beam) electrical harness connector to the bulb melted and caused a sparks to come out to the headlamp protector..also damaging it..
05/29/201147501
I own a 2008 saturn outlook and the passenger side headlight has gone out. the vehicle has 47,000 miles on it and the wiring harness is most likely burned out and melted as many other 08' saturn outlook's have been known to do. this is a significant safety issue because there have been many documented cases where faulty electrical wiring have been know to cause vehicle fires. this issue should not have to create fire, property damage or injury in order to initiate a recall given the history of known problems with faulty electrical wiring.

Passenger low beam headlight went out, and wiring was found to be melted, repaired and now 4 months later the passenger low beam headlight is now again out. gm has not issued a recall after multiple failures,, and now wondering if driving this vehicle is safe as it could catch fire( wires getting hot enough to mel in to) ='s not safe ,, thanks gm

2008 saturn outlook - headlight wiring harness melted.
11/01/2010
The driver-side headlight used to work intermittently. after a while, the primary driver's side headlight no longer works, although the high-beams still do. no parts have been replaced, but i have read of identical issues with other outlook owners and the faulty wiring harness for the headlamps.

2008 saturn outlook. low beam light went out. went to have bulb replaced, found out it was faulty wiring, bulb is fine. one day the light is on, the next day, the light doesn't work.

Driver side low beam bulb stopped working...and would not work avter multiple on-off cycles and restarts. when i went to change the bulb i noticed the harness was melted at the bulb connector. i was able to clean out the melted plastic and bulb worked, but have to replace harness due to melted and exposed wires

My 2008 saturn outlook (recently purchased used) has intermittent headlight issues. the headlights go in and out with no warning. the service center quoted me over $600 to fix the issue. they say it's a faulty wiring harness common with the saturn outlook model. not a bulb burnout, but a structural problem that saturn knew about. i've done some research online and this seems to be fairly widespread. i can't help but feel like gm has taken advantage of a lot of people.
03/08/201160000
Headlight wire harness failure. headlamps were burning out frequently and finally determined that gm installed faulty low gauge wiring. harness in my vehicle was burned and melted causing a fire risk. the dealer replaced one harness while still under warranty. i am having to replace the other harness now at 64k miles.
04/08/201165000
Passenger side headlight is out on saturn outlook. wiring harness is melted. this happened on the drivers side about a year ago. very expensive to replace and is obviously a design flaw and a huge danger as we are without low beams until we can get it fixed and parts are on backorder. probably because everyone is having a problem.

We bought our 2008 saturn outlook xr in dec. 2010 from carmax. it had ~35000 miles on it. at ~38500 miles the passenger side low beam headlight went out. i removed the bulb and found the connector was melted. i tried replacing the bulb, but the light did not work. the cable must be ruined.

The drivers side headlight went out around 24,000 miles in which the dealer replaced the whole assembly. 20,000 miles later the same headlight went out for which i had to pay the dealer $40 to install it. 5,000 miles later the passenger headlight stop working and paid the dealer $40 to replace it. two hours later it stop working and had to bring it back to the dealership for which they told me i needed a new assembly. if gm doesn't fix this problem then they lost a buyer for life.

Our 2008 saturn outlook's headlights continuously keep going out. and it is very costly to repair, especially since saturn went out of business. also, we have a protable dvd player that we use in the car for our kids and when we plug it into the outlet near the radio an burning odor comes from it.

The driver's side low beam lamp failed on december 13, 2010. i replaced the lamp with a new one. on february 6 while driving at night i noticed the the driver's side headlight was working intermittently. since the lamp was new i checked to insure it was seated and it was. the lamp continued to do so until february 17th when it went out completely. upon checking the lamp again i found that the insulation on the wires at the base of the socket had melted and one of the wires was broken. i have an appointment with the dealer to make the necessary repairs.

Issue with headlights not working, or working off and on. replaced lights and still having problems. looks like a wiring or electrical problem. there looks to be a tsb from gm on this issue, but no recall.

I have a 2008 saturn outlook xr. there are now over 150 complaints filed with the nhtsa regarding electrical problems and failure of the low beam lights on both sides. my passenger side failed and when repairs were started the gm repair shop noted the wiring harness where the bulb is inserted was burned (melted and blackened) as is the case in all the complaints i reviewed. gm issued a tsb in may 2009 addressing this problem (tsb# 09-08-42-004) which included filling the connector cavity with nyogel grease after removing and replacing the harness. my vehicle is out of warranty with just over 41,000 miles. the gm shop acknowledged that they have seen other vehicles in this model line with the same failure. however they had no directions to cover the repairs since the vehicle was out of warranty. it was recommended that i call gm customer assistance. that call resulted in an apparent lack of knowledge of this problem in spite of the numerous nhtsa complaints and internet discussions regarding this problem. this is an obvious safety issue should a failure occur while driving at night. i can also expect that the drivers side will also fail which will result in an additional repair cost beyond just replacing a burned out bulb.

Left low beam headlight went out, then back on and out again in same 45 minute trip. new day worked fine for two weeks. now out again. wire harness failure. requires a $250-400 repair for one side. the other side can fail at anytime due to the design and no dielectric grease. concerned about engine compartment fire as wires burn without proper fuse protection.

My passenger light went out so i figured i would need to replace the bulb. the next night it was working again. it worked for about two days and went out again so i figured there was a short. i got into the light fixture and looked at the bulb and it looked good but i pulled the light out anyways to change for new since i was in there already. to my surprise the fixture holding the lamp was completely melted and looked like there was arching to it with the plastic melted all around it. plus some corrosion on some of the wires. i work for the air force on f16's so i know alot about the corrosion and the way it looks. this is a safety issue that looks from searching the web happens in a lot of these vehicles. it isn't a freak thing that just happened to a couple cars. by the inspection of the harness and connector there is a safety defect that needs to be fixed before this causes a fire and or accident.

Failure is headlights go out while driving vehicle. there is no indication of the headlights going out they just go out completely. both low-beam headlights on my 2008 saturn outlook went completely out while driving on the highway. luckily no accidents we're caused by this issue. i researched various websites only to find gm has a tsb on this issue tsb# 09-08-42-004. i contacted gm today to advise i would like to have this issue repaired they informed me this is only covered under warranty. this seems to be a very serious issue to only be covered under warranty and not under a safety recall.

2 complaints about the outlook...first, the airbag. we have had it fixed 5 times! the dealer re-routed it, put it back, replaced wiring, but to no avail. and it appears again that it needs to be serviced. this problem has been going on for over a year. then 2nd the driver's side low light beam went out....replaced bulb three times and it didn't hold a charge for about a few days each. gm definitely need to look at these problems. i am very frustrated that a car that just goes out of warranty has problems that need major fixing.

Upon noticing a headlight out on my wife's 2008 saturn outlook, it was noted upon disassembly of the headlight that there was significant melting damage to the electrical wiring harness to the passenger side hid headlight fixture. the wiring harness was charred and blackened in the area of the headlight connector assembly. it appears there was signficant heat/arcing during the failure event. the damaged wiring harness caused the passenger side headlight to become non functional. the vehicle has approximately 50000 miles on it. this is the first such failure for this vehicle, however, upon reading various online postings about this matter, it appears to be a very common failure mode in these model vehicles. the headlight wiring harness assembly has been replaced, along with the headlight assembly due to heat damage to the headlight lamp wiring connector. old parts are not available due to being thrown away.

The lowbeam headlight wiring harness melted after about 2 years of usage. after looking the passenger lowbeam headlight wiring harness was also melted. this is a 2008 outlook xe and i would not have expected to spend $300 for this if the parts fail because the manufacturer didn't use heavy enough wire or placed it in a bad place.

2008 saturn outlook, 56,000 miles, low beam headlights going out. driving at night and the headlights all of a sudden went out. checked online forums and have noticed that this is a common problem. had to use high beams to reach destination at the same time i was surely blinding other drivers in which i believe is a safety hazard for me and the other drivers. called local dealerships of problem and was told that the low beams going out is because of faulty wire harness and would cost 237 dollars for each headlight 474 dollars total. also, this problem is not covered under the limited 100,000 mile gm warranty. if this is a common problem amongst other saturn outlook owners and you need lights to drive at night, this would lead me to believe that the headlight problem is a huge safety concern.

2008 saturn outlook, passenger side low beam headlight is on again, off again. i replaced the light bulb, and used the correct bulb grease in the socket, but the wire harness that powers the light bulb looks to be too light in gauge to power the headlight. the bulb will light sometimes, but then go out for extended periods of time, indicating a short somewhere in the wiring harness. the amount of time that the headlight is out has increased incrementally over time. the problem began about 7 months ago, while the vehicle had about 34000 miles on it, and i had assumed it was a faulty light bulb. i now have over 39000 miles on the truck, and am reading of a similar problem that other owners of the same vehicle are experiencing. i am afraid that if i begin experiencing the same light failure on the driver's side, i will lose all visibility at night. with 39000 miles now on the truck, i am out of warranty, and dread seeing the cost of a replacement wire harness, after having replaced the bulb through the wheel well.

Passenger side headlight became inoperative, wire harness replaced due to repair description of melting. no incident for approx 9 months. driver side headlight becomes inoperative intermittently during driving. hand adjustment of wire harness temporarily allows headlight to function. passenger side headlight begins to fail in same intermittent way as driver side headlight. loss of headlight while driving, driving becomes hazardous.

Have replaced passenger side headlight bulb 3 times in two years. after last replacement lasted two days i got up inside the headlight assembly (an almost impossible task) to see that the wiring inside the socket was melted and burnt away. i suspect that the wire shielding leading to the socket was never there, from the factory. it appeared that the wire was left unshielded and arcd out against the metal socket retainer. the plastic components are all but melted away from this grounding. i went to the gm dealer i made purchase from and have been told there is a service advisory, but no recall. further, i've was told that they are seeing a ton of these. i was told of disassembly of the front end to replace the entire headlight assembly. lastly, the cost might exceed $300. this is an unreasonable expense for something that should be as simple as changing a bulb. i am left with no recourse but to attempt to repair the wiring myself with the best parts i can find. i can only wonder what the other headlight is doing under there. i fear that the fire hazard is real and tangible. i had understood that saturn's reputation was outstanding for customer service and superior product engineering. but we loyal saturn owners seem to be on our own now. at least those of us with mileage over 36,000 miles. what i would liek to see is gm stand behind this product with such an important component as headlight safety and potential fire hazard.

I have replaced the low beam light in my 2008 saturn outlook twice in the past month and it's out again. after researching this matter online, i now see that this is a common problem and i feel that gm needs to investigate these complaints immediately and issue a recall to correct this matter before this causes someone to get hurt or killed. someone needs to stand behind their product.

Our 2008 saturn just had to have the driver's side low lamp headlight fixed. melted harness piece. we had to pay for this one because we are out of warranty time (60k miles). the passenger side lamp went out while under warranty. it's ridiculous that we just spent $279 to have a light repaired that seems to be a recurring problem with saturns... before that we had the whole passenger side airbag light problem. the car doesn't sense when someone is sitting in the front passenger seat. dealership said car is out of warranty and it will cost us because it's probably a faulty sensor. this is our second outlook. lemon-lawed the 2007 and thought we'd give them another chance. not smart on our part in retrospect!

Tl-the contact owns a 2008 saturn outlook. the contact stated that while driving aat various speeds or at a stop the right headlight would go out on him and were unable to turn back on. the vehicle was inspected by a dealer who informed the contact that the headlight wiring and socket had melted and needed to replaced. the vehicle was repaired for the right headlight wiring and socket. the left headlight has had the same failure as the right headlight. the left headlight has yet to be inspected by a dealer or repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 35,000. tb

My driver side low beam went out ( or appeared to) i bought a h11 bulb from the auto parts store and went to replace it and found my bulb wasn't burnt out at all just had fallen out of the socket. so i twisted it back into the socket, put the cover back on and it worked for a few days. then my passenger side did the same thing. now on my way home form the store both went out ( this was at night and caused a major problem for me getting home.) i ultimately had to use my high beams just to get home safely. i'm not sure how to correct this problem since the bulb isn't actually burning out it just keeps falling ot of the socket.

2008 saturn outlook owner at about 32000 miles thought that i needed a headlight bulb, but when my husband went to replace it he noticed that the driver's side wirehareness was melted. i took it in to the dealer and it took about 3 weeks for them to replace both headlamp assemblies. the headlamp assemblies on the 2008 outlook i was told by the service tech that didn't make them any more, so they replaced them with purplish bluish headlights. i've had the new assembly on since july 2010 and it's now november 2010 and i haven't had no other problems with the headlamps so far.

I have a 2008 saturn outlook xr and the drivers side front headlight harness melted due to overheating likely caused by the very small gauge of wire they used in this harness. this occurred about 6 weeks ago when the vehicle had about 38000 miles on it. i purchased the part from the dealer, which had a larger gauge wire, and crimped it into place. this was very difficult because there is little to no room around the headlight. most internet forums suggested that the entire front bumper must be removed for this fix. i did find a way to do it without removing the bumper, but i doubt that this could be done by most people without removing the bumper.

I own a 2008 saturn outlook xr awd. i have 56,000 miles on the vehicle. earlier this year the passenger low beam headlight started going on and off. after a week it stopped working. i took it to my local saturn dealership (before they closed) the technicians looked at it and decided it was a safety concern as the wiring harness for the headlight was melted so they replaced both driver and passenger harnesses and bulbs. a few months later the passenger light did the same thing and i was able to get at the harness and saw that it was black and wires were melded. i replaced the light and it worked for another month before burning out. i took it into the gm dealer, the technician looked at it and just replaced the bulb, it has since burned out again and the wiring harness is still blackened and melted and keeps burning out lights.

Another for the low beam connector melting -- perhaps a little more aggressively than some. at 73k replaced driver side h11 low beam bulb. couldn't get light to stay on. noticed partially melted connector. applied a little electrical grease. worked for a few hours. days later (after vacation) applied more electrical grease. started working again. closed up the wheel well. as i get up from the wheel well on the driver side i see smoke from the *passenger* side headlamp area and light fogging of the top of the lens. i haven't touched the passenger side! it still has the original working headlamp and connector.

I have a 2008 saturn outlook. about a year ago my left headlight went out. it was repaired and went out again. i had it repaired yet again and in less than 2 weeks it blew again. a few days later the right one blew. last week both harnesses were replaced. we leared from the dealer that this in an ongoing problem with this vehicle but no recal has been issued. we also learned that the harness was remodeled due to the ongoing problem. fortunately i've had no crashes due to this, but having a headlight blow especially when only one is operational is extremely dangerous for me as i travel often at night.

Daytime running headlights and night low beam headlights stopped working. lucky for me i have auxillary lighting to use. right side headlight quit working about 2 mnths ago and found the wiring connector was melted. removed connector and made a new one. now both lights are not working and needs to be serviced. out of warranty now and will pay. something doesn't match up and needs to be fixed. headlights not working is a major concern of mine and probably any other outlook owner.

2008 outlook had a burned out low beam on the driver side at 31,750 miles. dealer confirmed that the wiring harness was melted causing the failure and need replacing. gm needs to recall both wiring harnesses as i am sure the next one will go and it will be past the warranty. this is clearly a safety defect having a light's wiring harness melt. apparently, this is a common problem with '08 outlooks. please issue a recall!

My 2008 saturn outlook has had problems with the headlights. i had two headlights malfunction at the same time. i went to replace the bulbs and one of lights started to work without replacement. the second bulb had a burn mark and the connector on the wiring harness was melted. i plugged the bulb back it and it work, though a bit dimmer. this is the 3rd or 4th time i've had problems with the headlights. i had thought they replaced the wiring harness before under warranty. i'm assuming they will be doing the same since the bulbs still work and the connector is melted on the one harness.

I have a 2008 saturn outlook and the right low beam went out and i found that the connector had melted. the very next day in the evening the left low beam went out and i was without low beam lights. i had both wireing harnesses replaced at a cost of almost $400 on 8/27/10 i hope this fixes my problem. major safety issue in my opinion. i had to drive with high beams and that was not good for other drivers and they were angry with me. needs recall.

The passenger headlamp went out on my 2008 saturn outlook. i brought it to saturn/mitsubishi dealership and they wanted to charge me $650.00 dollars to replace the lamp and a wire harness that connects to the bulb. according to the service guy the wire harness is most likely responsible for the bulb burning out. the bulb itself was $285.00......for a headlamp bulb!!!!!!!!!!! i have read numerous complaints about this issue on line and i am wondering what can be done to remedy this astronomical price for repair and bulb.

I own a 2008 saturn outlook, which i purchased new in august of 2007. in february of 2010, i noticed my right low-beam headlight/daytime running light was out. i contacted my local saturn service center and was told that there had been some problems with the wiring harness and i should bring it in for a replacement harness, since it was still under warranty, which i did. in april 2010, the left low beam headlight/daytime running light went out. i again contacted saturn and asked if, assuming this was the same problem, it would be covered by warranty, since they had already acknowleged that a problem existed with this harness (the vehicle was about 2,000 miles over warranty by this time). i was told that, since there had been no recall, it would not be a warranty item, and that i would have to pay for the repairs myself. since the saturn dealer is about 50 miles away, and it was not going to be covered by warranty, i opted to have it repaired at a shop much closer to home. after determining that the bulb was functional, they ordered a new wiring harness, and installed it in less than an hour (to the tune 0f $171.44). i asked to see the old harness, and upon inspection, i observed that the housing around one of the connection points was clearly burnt and melted. i have heard of numerous other reports of this failure, much like the recalled wiring harness for the heated windhield wipers. this harness defect clearly is a safety issue and should be recalled.

I have a 2008 saturn outlook and the headlights keep going out. i have taken the car into the shop two seperate times and had them fixed. three months later it did the same thing. the driver side headlight went out, then a week later it came back on. two weeks later the passenger light went out for a couple of weeks and then it came back on. last night neither of my headlights were working. there is obviously an issue here. to ate i have spent nearly $700.00 on getting the headlight to work properly. i need the vehicle to work as it is our only vehicle. what if i was to be driving down the freway at night and they both were out, an emergency acident is bound to happen. please help.

Drivers side headlight went bad in september. replaced buld and during the process noticed the wiring harness was melted. light failed to operate with a new buld. i called the dealership and was told that they know of the problem and that i their fix was to put nyogel grease on the connector. i tried what the dealer reccommended with no luck. i am currently stationed overseas and have no way of getting to a dealer to have item repaired. yesterday 24 march other headlight stops working as well with the same issue. the vehicle is only 2 years old with 24,643 miles. this is completely absud that there is no recall on this issue.

I own a '08 saturn outlook that had two (2) headlight wiring harnesses melt causing both headlights to not work. contacted the dealership and they stated that this is an ongoing problem with this vehicle but there has been no recall. exact term that was used was campaign, but not recall. $477.00 parts / labor to have my headlights work again. this is a huge safety issue due to there are no signs of this problem occuring for you to alleviate the problem. and the only way to access the headlight assembly is to remove the whole front fascia (bumper) from the vehicle. of course both headlights went out as i was driving during nighttime hours in the dark. please help make this a safety recall, due to the huge safety concern this poses.

I have a 2008 saturn outlook. purchased in february 2008. the front passenger headlight went out in the end of january 2010. it was replaced on feb 6, 2010. i was also told that the headlight socket is burned and may need replacement. it is now march 16, 2010 and this morning the same headlight is out again!. the cost to replace once again is almost the cost of the car payment and now most likely it will cost much more since i will have to replace the socket too. i made it a point to turn off my lights during the day after the replacement due to the resport of the socket yet it still burned out. i have read that there are a number of outlook owners with this same issue.

Saturn outlook xr headlights went out when wire on left front headlight melted wiring.. this happened in january 2010 when the right front went out and melted the wiring. cost to replace the one in january $640.00 and was told today to replace the left front will be $750.00. this is a defect and should be recalled as you can look at many web sites and many people are having this problem. we noticed that this only happens when the lights are on high beam only. *tr

I purchased this 2008 vehicle in july 2008, used but new with a bit over 16,000 miles on it from a delearship in syracuse that is no longer active. my vehicle has always been well cared for and serviced accordingly. starting jan. 31, 2010, the engine began to make a loud knock. it did not matter if i warmed the vehicle, or if it was warm weather or cold. on some instances it seemed to not accelerate on the highway as it should. often hesitating to go. it has been into the dealership four different occasions, for a total of 21 days out-of-service cumulatively, soon to be more. the first time they gave it back the next day as they stated they could not duplicate the noise. three days later the knock was back. the second time it went in they had for 7 days, could not duplicate. 2 days later back again...the third time the dealership locally here put a new timing chain in. they said it was slack. however, this did not fix the issue. it was supposed to go back in for the same engine knocking, etc. before it could go in i was driving at night with small children in the car on a highway and had no headlights. after taking it to the dealership they say the wiring harness melted and they have no idea why. they take the vehicle in again for a fourth time. tell me its fixed. new wiring harness. pick up vehicle..same engine knock present. they now say maybe its a lifter? cam? don't have parts. give me this same vehicle to continue to drive. something is fishy here. how many vehicles does it take for a safety recall or investigation????? does someone have to die?! headlights going out at night on highway, engine not accelerating....major safety issues. multiple complaints. i'd rather not have someone called to the scene of my death or the deaths of my children because of a known defect that is not being addressed! also, another 2008 saturn outlook is at the same dealership for similiar problems...
