Odi evaluated general motors' (gm) data, conducted consumer interviews, inspected and tested my 2005-2007 gm minivans with regard to the alleged defect of a power sliding door (psd) opening while the vehicle is out of park.odi identified a high warranty claim rate.however, these claims are related to various problems associated with doors not properly opening or closing and not specifically to doors opening while driving.the condition of the psd reversing direction during the closing sequence is consistent with an obstruction of the door, or with improper alignment of the door, and this is addressed in gm technical service bulletin # 07-08-64-007 and bulletins # 07-08-64-007a through d.odi's evaluation of the psd system notes numerous safeguards to preclude both unintentional and intentional power opening of the psd while the vehicle is in motion.a safety-defect trend has not been identified at this time.accordingly, this investigation is closed.[see document file for additional information regarding this resume.]
PE07044GENERAL MOTORS CORP.08/16/200712/11/2007POWER SLIDING DOOR OPENING
Odi has received reports that the power sliding doors opened without command while the vehicle was in motion on model year 2005 and 2006 general motors minivans (chevrolet uplander/venture, pontiac montana sv6/montana, buick terraza, and saturn relay).some reports indicate that the door may not have been closed and latched before driving away causing the door to reverse (open) at low vehicle speeds.however, other reports indicate that the door was initially shut then opened after driving for several minutes and/or miles at vehicle speeds between 20 and 70 mph.odi has upgraded this preliminary evaluation to an engineering analysis (ea07-019) to further assess this issue.

Passenger sliding door chimed and reopened without being obstructed. relay was originally purchased in 2005 and problems with doors began within one year. initially repair was denied as dealer could not duplicate problem. the sensors have been serviced 3 times by dealer, and motors were replaced once while vehicle was under warranty. this problem is concerning as manufacturer and dealers are aware of issue, and reports on saturn forum and edmunds.com have numerous owners experiencing failure of doors. doors have opened while car is in gear, but stopped. concerned that doors will open while car is moving and children will be ejected or injured by debris entering vehicle. *tr

Power door on 2005 saturn relay is not shutting completely and it has also started to open while driving. it has not opened completely while driving, but it separates enough that the locking system on the car starts to lock and unlock all the doors repeatedly. the interior manual handle to control the door no longer works, but it does work by using the interior button. the exterior handle does not work 100% of the time and sometimes the door does not fully open and has to be manually pushed open the rest of the way, or shut and then reopened so that the motor will reengage. *tr

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 65 mph on normal road conditions, a noise was heard from one of the tires. the right front tire blew out and the tire failure was on the outer wall. the same incident occurred several days after with the left front tire. the dealership replaced all four tires. also, the brakes made a loud noise while driving 5 mph, and the abs light illuminated intermittently. the dealership corrected the problem but the brake noise continued and on one occasion the wheels locked up. recently, one of the rear tires blew out, but the dealership did not find any abnormality for this repetitive problem. the vehicle was taken to the dealership twelve times in a one and a half year period. the manufacturer was contacted, and advised to take the vehicle to the dealership for a diagnosis. the contact was very concerned because on top of the mechanical defects, other body defects like doors opening by itself while driving constituted a severe risk to safety.
