My wife was on the way home from picking up our kids from school and the drivers seat reclining back gave way reclining the seat back all the way. i looked up a previous recall saturn had for the yr, make, and model however either due to either age or vin # series from what i had found online the dealer will not honor the warranty. i also contacted a young lady with gm customer assistance who also could not find any information on the recall even though i read off the recall numbers found on nhtsa's website. dealer wants me to come in for a diagnostic however will not let me know of a price? this could have been a very severe incident as both my children were also in the car at the time of the incident which luckily she was able to keep control of the vehicle.

Tl*the contact owns a 1995 saturn sl2. while changing lanes at 10 mph, the contact's vehicle was rear ended and caused her to crash into a pole. upon impact, the driver's seat retracted backwards towards the floor. the contact sustained severe injuries to her back, neck, and shoulders. the vehicle was completely destroyed. she has all the documents pertaining to the failure, and a copy of the police report. the manufacturer denied all responsibility because her vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 99v045000 (seats). the failure and current mileages were 107,000.

My car has the problem described in nhtsa campaign id number 99v045000, and even falls into the cars affected that is listed in the recall. however, saturn says that there are no recalls for my car and refuses to fix, despite the recall that is on your website. they told me it doesn't show up in their computers, and i believe it is because it is such an old problem and car, that their databases don't have it anymore, for whatever reason. *tr

I was at a stoplight when i got rearended and my seat flew back and caused me back, neck and arm injury. i was told by the doctor that i would not have been nearly as injured if the seat had held like it should have. the car had very little damage on the bumpers. (i was thrown into the car in front of me, also). i read in the newspaper today (9-23-00) that saturn knew about this problem with the seat last year! why wasn't it recalled then?! i've been going to the doctor ever since the accident and it's been quite a pain and inconvenience. i should not have been put through this! *ak

There is a recall on 94-95 saturns for this unusual problem. our vin is about 60 numbers off from the list. it is too wierd of a problem, especially since the same thing that's being recalled. saturn will not replace it under the recall. they are requiring us to pay a fee equal to an extended warrenty deductible. it is not acceptable especially since they refused to at least examine the suspect part and prove to us it is not in the recall. please help.

The driver seatback failed and fell backward to a flat position as i was starting to move forward at an intersection. i had to prop the seat in position so that i could finish the trip. i had the seat back replaced at a saturn retailer. the incident made me decide to trade in the vehicle. when i went to my insurance web site to register my new car, a link came up to check the safety problems of my vehicle - the 1995 saturn. the one recall mentioned was the front drivers seat falling backward. i contacted saturn and asked why i hadn't received a notice and was told that my vin number was not one with a problem. there have been no problems with this seat back, it was due to age and mileage. i want the information on record for future problems with this car. *ak

The dealer gave me an estimate of repairs for over $400. in my opinion, seats should not just break under normal conditions, regardless of the mileage on the car. i could understand if it broke during a high-speed collision. isn't it dangerous for me to be driving around with a cooler in the back seat propping up my seatback?*ak

Please see nhtsa campaign id number 99v045000. i contacted robert hall at saturn motors in march 2000. he stated that because my vehicle was manufactured in november 1984 and the referenced recall was for vehicles manufactured between 1/94 and 8/94 they (saturn) was not responsible. his contention is that the seatback recliner teeth are a wear part and are expected to wear out in 5 years. i strongly disagree. i contend that the original recall should be extended to include all 1995 model year vehicles which suffer the same safety defect as described in the original recall.*ak

Driver's seat back recliner gear teeth are worn excessively and the seat-back slips rearward when minor force is applied. i contacted saturn (robert hall) regarding remedy for this problem under the nhtsa campaign number 99v045000. he stated that because my vehicle was not included in the original recall, they would not fix it at their cost. he further stated that the company's position is that the seat-back recliner mechanism is a wear part and that because my car is 5-years old, this kind of wear is expected. i disagree. my car was manufactured in 11/94. the original recall covered vehicles manufactured 1/94 -8/94. if anything, my car is newer and the mechanism should have less wear. mr hall further stated that the high miles indicated that the part would be expected to fail. again, i disagree. the seat-back mechanism is generally adjusted only once each trip (often not at all). unless the part is designed to fail through normal wear, it should not fail simply because the average trip length is longer, as occurs on the reletively long commutes in alaska. mr hall stated that the problem lot of faulty seat-back mechanisms was found and that the problem was fixed at the factory on my car. one more time, i disagree. i believe the original problem was not resolved and that the manufacturer continued to install faulty seat-back recliner mechanisms after august 1994. i request that the original recall be expanded to include my vehicle and any other that suffer from the same safety defect and that this safety defect be repaire at no cost to me.*ak
