Defect SummaryVehicle description: certain passenger vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of fmvss no. 301, fuel system integrity. these vehicles were built with an inadequate vent valve weld on the top portion of the fuel tank.
Consequence SummaryFuel spillage could occur during refueling or if the vehicle were involved in a rollover. if an ignition source were present, a fire could occur.
Corrective SummaryDealers will inspect the vehicle to ensure the fuel tank vent valve is properly welded. if necessary, dealers will replace the fuel tank assembly.

 Fuel line ruptured due to flying debris from road, fuel line is a rubber or plastic hose and is close to catalytic converter and muffler, consumer is concerned that the rupture could have leaked gasoline onto these other components and caused a fire, consumer feels the line should be steel or be covered by a metal plate to shield it, consumer noticed rupture when he turned ignition switch on and electric fuel pump forced 3 and 1/2 gallons of fuel onto ground. *slc
