Defect SummaryVehicle description: class c motor homes constructed on chevy chassis. the routing of the main battery feed wiring from the coach battery to the distribution panel of the motor home. the coach battery is not the engine battery. the coach battery provides service to the motor home's 12v appliances. the routing allows it to come in contact with the exhaust manifold of the vehicle, and over time, the heat of the manifold degrades the shielding of the wire exposing the wire to the metal manifold.
Consequence SummaryThis condition could create an electrical short, and if the short does not cause the fuse to blow, could result in a fire.
Corrective SummaryDealers will re-route the wiring and an additional clamp will be added to permanently secure the wiring in this new position safely away from the exhaust manifold.

2 firestone steeltex radial r4s lt225/75r16 load range e dot vd1l1xd219 tires on my 2000 shasta cheyenne motorhome blew out. tread separated and caused $1700+ damage to coach. destroyed propane gas lines to stove, hot water heater and refrigerator and destroyed water lines. it also bent the tail pipe and caused body damage to the fiber glass in the area behind the right rear tire well. it broke the lock on the propane tank access door in front of the rear wheel tire well. luckily no fire occurred because of propane lines being severed and propane gas escaping. the 2 tires were on the right rear. also concerned about the other 4 tires on the ground and the spare because of evidence of cracking on sidewalls which could result in future tire separations and blow outs. *jb
TIRES - TREAD/BELT

Tire tread separation involving firestone steel tex tires caused damage to storage bins on shasta class c motor home.*mr the consumer experienced 3 separated tread separation on his motorhome. the first separation did not result in any damage (17,000). the second separation caused minor damage to one of the storage bins (22,000 miles). the third tread separation caught the main propane gas line and ripped the gas stove down through the inside cabinet causing extensive damage to the motorhome (30,700). the consumer contacted firestone and shipped the tires to them. the manufacturer responded by saying that the tire where not properly inflated which caused them to fail. the consumer indicated that he made sure the tires were properly inflated prior to every trip (firestone steeltex lt225/75/r16 radial). *nm
