Defect Summary | Fmvss no. 124, accelerator control systems requires two energy sources on the accelerator control capable of returning the motor controller to the idle position. although these vehicles are equipped with two sources of energy (springs) on the accelerator control system, one spring (located on the accelerator pedal) is not capable of returning the accelerator potentiometer to the idle position. this does not conform to the requirements of fmvss no. 124.
Consequence Summary | Consequence of non-compliance: the engine speed may not return to idle increasing the potential for a vehicle crash.
Corrective Summary | Solectria is redesigning the accelerator control potentiometers to contain two independent torsional springs, each capable of returning the potentiometer to the idle position. dealers will upgrade the vehicles involved with the newly designed accelerator control systems.
