10/15/2008150011
I was making a slow speed (~25 mph) left turn with my 2007 subaru impreza 2.5i station wagon on a dimly lit intersection at night during the rain. i misjudged the turn, and turned about 2 yards too early. i drove off the road and into a ditch, colliding headon with a concrete storm drain. the driver side airbag deployed at the moment of impact. after the impact, the electrical including the headlights, stereo system and cabin lights were functioning. i was able to exit the car, and spoke with a witness who was able to call the police department. while waiting for the officers, about 6 minutes after the collision the front of the car began to smoke. about a minute later, a fire began behind the right passenger side headlight. when the officers arrived on scene, the fire had progressed so that the entire engine compartment was on fire. by the time the fire department arrived, the heat of the fire had exploded the right front passenger tire. the car was deemed a total loss by my insurance company. *tr

My sister was driving my car while i was away. she was driving on the road when suddenly the car broke down. she had it towed to our independent mechanic. they stated that the head gasket blew. (soa mentioned to me that not a lot of people complained about it and they they may reimberse me for my repair if i was at a subaru dealer, but since it was at my independent mechanic they have to review it and the parts are suppose to be original) i needed to replace that. now it smells in the car sometimes (for instance after having heat on, and worse when it rains or snows). it also bucks uncontrollably when coming to a stop. i was told to have a subaru dealer check it out even though it's no more on the warranty. also, when i bought my car the window defrosters on the back window were damaged. they stated to me that it was my fault that it was damaged and i should repair it out of my own pocket. i don't recommend a subaru to any person, and honestly i don't like their customer service. they only want to receive money and not help people when they have problems. like other people mentioned. ar, nj

(potential for a serious incident or accident). vehicle surges and bucks uncontrollably in all gears at low speeds, which occasionally forces the foot to depress accelerator accidentally do to violent bucking in slow traffic conditions. other subarus in the 2.5 liter category do the same thing. i was informed that it is an inherent condition in this vehicle i must live with despite the potential for an accident. the dealer informed me that there was enough complaints on the 2006 model subaru forester experiencing this condition, that subaru of america came up with an ecu upgrade that cured the problem. i was basically told that they would keep me on record so that if and when an ecu upgrade becomes available they will contact me, but until then this is a flaw in this model i must live with. subaru of america acknowledge the complaint and passed it on to the dealer. i have not heard anything back from subaru of america after the initial contact and the dealer said there is nothing that can currently be done. *jb

Oil leak started, and was pooling on top of engine. took car to get repaired, was told gasket would need replacement. upon starting repairs, it was discovered that heli-coil had been over torqued supposedly during installation and due to over torquing, had become stripped resulting in a loose bolt and oil was able to leak out. the failure caused oil to leak out at a catastrophic rate, which could potentially cause engine fire and/or damage to catalytic converter. old coil was taken out, threads came out with it (demonstrating over torquing), and new coil was installed. threads from coil are available.

I have a 2007 subaru wrx tr, i purchased a year an half ago, i was driving my car home from work when all of sudden my transmission just started making funny noises, i was able to coast home to my house, put in the driveway, then had it trailed down to my local subaru dealer, i have not heard if under warranty yet but my car only has 26,000 miles and my 3rd gear is gone along with the syncros, in 1st and 2nd gear, i don't think this should be happen to a brand new car, i thought suabaru's were suppose to last forever that's why i got one, if it is not warrantied i will never purchase a subaru again. just wanted people to know that its not just them that was having problems, its alot of subaru's. i think subaru should live up to a warranty no matter what is wrong with the car, that is the whole point of have a warranty. so why buy a car if they don't hold up to what they tell you. *tr

To whom it may concern, i don't know if the nhtsa is someone that can help, but i figure i would try. i'm at my wits end. i have a 2007 subaru wrx four door sedan. in april of 2008 i was driving my car in a 35 mile per hour zone and shifted my manual transmission from 2nd gear to 3rd gear. it popped out of gear when i began accelerating. needless to say the car was undrivable and i had to have it towed to my nearest subaru dealership, brown pontiac, subaru here in amarillo tx. they tore the transmission apart to find that the third gear was stripped out and not covered under warranty. they said i had abused my car. it was and still is in great condition. i paid $908.00, half the repair cost to get my one and only car out of the shop. last tuesday, 8-5-08, i was driving my car again. i shifted from 1st gear to 2nd gear. i could not put it in 2nd gear so, i didn't force it. i let the clutch out and reengaged it. i hear a bang in the transmission and it was over. today, almost a week later, the same subaru dealership, brown, called me and said 2nd gear was stripped out of it, just like 3rd gear. no one was injured in these incidents. there are several subaru wrx owners with the same transmission problems. soa subaru of america, refuse to think they may have a defect part or parts in there transmissions, or that their transmissions will fail. i'm facing a $3000.00 repair bill. i have driven my car 4 months and about 7000 miles. please help us! *tr

Transmission failure: brand new 2007 subaru impreza, has broken down twice now. subaru denies warranty. the first transmission repair cost me $2700, now they want another $4500, for the 2nd repair. this car has 5959 miles on it. *tr

I started to come home one day and the car would not go into gear i had it towed by road side service and reliable subaru in springfield, mo. said it would have to have a new transmission and after getting a hold of subaru they said it would not be covered under warranty due to driver error. i ask them to prove it was driver error and they said it was impossible to determine that. but usually when the transmission was heated up it was driver error. i replied if it was low on transmission fluid would it not heat up and he said sure it would. i had the car 3 months when this happened with 5200 miles on it. never did i ever drive the car in a hard way. i am out now 5200.00 on a new transmission. plus 23,000.00 on the car. i will never buy a subaru, agin. *ak

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 subaru impreza. the contact stated that when shifting from fifth to fourth gear, the gears become stuck. while attempting to shift into fourth gear, the vehicle shifts into reverse. the contact heard a rattling noise coming from the gear shift assembly. he took his vehicle to the dealer on five occasions to have the gear shift assembly repaired. the dealer repaired the vehicle the first four times. the contact was not sure of which parts were actually replaced, but he believed that the dealer repaired the springs in the gear shift assembly and replaced the exact same parts for all four failures. after the fifth failure, the dealer stated they did not know what else to do to remedy the failure. the manufacturer was unable to provide assistance. the speed was unknown. the current mileage was 5,500 and failure mileage was 3,000. *updated 12/12/07 *bf updated 12/12/07 *tr

I was at the dealership having a recall done for my front suspension a frames. (wvx34) and was told that the vehicle needed more extensive repairs as parts were corroded and could not be changed without being damaged. i was told subaru had refused to agree the repairs until their dpsm had seen the vehicle, he would be at the dealer in the next 4 weeks. i contacted the dealer on the 5th december to be told the rep would be in until the 18th december (i am out of the country then). i contacted subaru as i was disappointed with the service and the contacted the dealer and called me back on the 6th. i was told that the vehicle was dangerous and that the repairs were $5,000 worth and that i would have to pay as they had corrosion and that this wasn't part of the recall and the dpsm date was still the 18th. i would assume that if the a frames wee damaged due to corrosion and that the same corrosion had damaged other parts of the suspension then this would not be my liability. i am driving a dangerous vehicle (says the dealer to subaru but not me) and subaru not only don't care enough to inspect the vehicle as a matter of urgency but do not want to repair the vehicle. so the complaint is that the recall (wvx34) is just for a frames and the actual corrosion damage is much more extensive. *tr

TIRES
11/30/2008110001
We were driving on highway 14 at about 9 pm when we heard (and felt) a loud bang and then felt the noticeable bumpiness of a flat tire. we pulled over to the side to find the front passenger side tire flat, which we proceeded to change with the spare that was supplied with the car. the car is a 2007 subaru impreza and is actually a loaner from the dealer since my car is in the shop, being repaired for the same problem for the 8th time in 2 years (separate complaint). upon inspecting the tire the next day, it's evident that it is a blowout as it has a 4 inch slit in the sidewall and there was nothing in the road that we drove over. i have not had the tire replaced yet but the dealer is asserting that i am responsible for the tire, even though it's not my car. they did, however, offer to sell me the tire at their cost with free installation. i plan on keeping the tire when i do get it replaced, since i'm paying for it. i will be contacting bridgestone headquarters and subaru headquarters in new jersey about this incident. tire is a bridgestone potenza re 92a, size p205/55r16 89v dot em8k jll2407. *tr

Bad tire this letter was sent to bridgestone tire company on 8/07/2007 and made calls to the company on aug 7,8 2007 consumer affairs at 1-800-367-3872 in chicago,il. i had talk with a representative and was given a case #1097787,and then talk with another representative on aug 8. the second representative called the store in terrell texas. my son has a new 2007 subaru impreza with bridgestone tires. the car is only 3 months old and has less than 5000 miles on the car. one of the tires has a bubble on the side wall. he went to a service center and was told to take the car back to the auto dealer. firestone dealer don't want to adjust the tire. dealer are just giving my son the run around. you guys need to replace bubble tire with a new tire. it's not the dealer responsibility to adjust the tire! it is the tire manufacturer responsibility. tire dealers are just trying to pass the buck. i want that tire replace. psi: i want this tire taken care of asap before the tire blows out and causes an accident. bridgestone will be held responsible for any accident!!!!!contract me or my son wednesday 8/8/2007. my next step is to go to the media. they would just have a field day with tires that have bubbles on the side wall. just think about a few years ago. *jb
