Defect SummaryOn certain scooters, if the ignition switch is not fully turned from the 'off' to the 'on' position, there may be unstable contact between the ignition switch contacts. this can cause arcing in the ignition switch.
Consequence SummaryHeat from the arcing can melt the internal switch base plate. if the scooter is ridden in this condition, the ignition switch may fail. if this happens, the engine will stall, the lights will go out, and the operator may be unable to restart the scooter. this could result in a crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the ignition switch terminal case assembly free of charge. the recall began on september 7, 2005. owners may contact suzuki at 1-800-255-2550.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Riding my suzuki burgman 2003 on 405 fwy n/b and culver ave. i had a transmission failure because of a sudden slowdown in speed from 65 mph and slower, i was almost hit from behind by a car. i could hear the tires screeching behind me. a dangerous situation as this one, could lead to death or serious injury to anyone because of a malfunction in the motorcycle. this problem is occuring with all burgman models because it is a factory design defect. i was close to death or serious injury. suzuki is comprimising the safety on all roads for riders. america suzuki motorcycle should take responsibility to fix this problem recalling the burgman models before some rider can be killed or injured because of suzuki factory design defect as we know many...many burgman owner experiensing the same auto transmission problem and i am one of them and many more.
POWER TRAIN - AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

This has to do with american suzuki motorcycle. i have written a letter to the president of america suzuki motorcycle mac kato. this is a cvt transmission safety issue to me. i have 2003 an 650 burgman. i was riding the bike and all of a sudden i had engine power but wasn't going anywhere. i'm glad i was on the city streets and not on the highway. if this would have happened in the hov lanes i don't know what i would have of done! if i had been in the regular lanes of freeway that i ride on every day i might not have made it to the side in one piece. what happened to me is the primary pulley shaft adaptor seized on the primary shaft and froze. therefore the transmission stopped turning. i feel that, if there is a weakness with this product, it?s the primary pulley and the parts that are attached to the primary pulley. interestingly the dealer had just worked on a different bike about a month ago and what failed on that bike was the primary pulley assembly the bolt that goes in the bottom of the casing or the primary pulley stopper bolt sheared off resulting in the primary pulley turning inside the casing and chewed up the inside of the casing. i will refer you to a web site burgmanusa.com there are over 8,000 members here. some had the cvt trans failure. i had the transmission repaired and with parts and labor the cost is $2,526.00 i do have the parts that was replaced. *tr
