Defect SummarySuzuki is recalling certain model year 2004-2006 forenza and model year 2005-2006 reno vehicles manufactured from september 23, 2003, through march 7, 2006. increased resistance due to poor contact between the terminals of certain wires can generate heat that can melt the splice pack used to connect the power circuit wires for the headlamps. this can result in intermittent or total loss of low/high beam headlamp function.
Consequence SummaryIf the headlamps fail to function, this will lead to reduced driver visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective SummarySuzuki will notify owners, and suzuki dealers will reconnect the affected wires with two heat-shrink crimps, free of charge. the safety recall is expected to begin during september 2012. owners may contact suzuki at 1-714-996-7040.
NotesSuzuki's recall campaign number is nu.customers may contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty: 1-800-424-9153); or go to http://www.safercar.gov.

Back in nov 2012 i took my 2005 suzuki forenza in for a recall repair as suggested the recall was on the wiring harness that put the headlights on and off (i had been having trouble with my headlights popping on and off at random times) so after i obeyed the recall i noticed that the problem was fixed so in jan 12 2013 my car was sitting at a local applebees parking lot completely turned off nothing plugged in no lighters in the car just sitting there when someone ran into the restaurant and shouted whose gold suzuki is that? its on fire needless to say when i ran out the dashboard was completely in flames the fire dept came to rescue and at my request a fire investigator investigated the incident and concluded that the fire started as a result of a electrical short in the wiring harness...(yes the recalled'' fixed part) the actually dealership that fixed the recalled part has already stated that they arent taking responsibility for it & i am waiting to suzuki corporate to conclude their findings i truly hope suzuki does the right thing in this unfortunate matter if not i am prepared to take legal action but im praying they will do the right thing and take responsibility. *tr

After first purchasing the car, there were problems accelerating and then car failed. power steering had to be fixed, timing belt replaced. a few months later speakers started to go in and out, radio lights come on and off, etc. in 2010 headlights failed. being a broke college student i rode with my brights for almost a year until i looked up the recall online and got that fixed at the dealership. 2011 replaced speakers, still don't work on entire right side of car and back of driver side. one speaker works, very weak and sometimes goes out completely. interior lights go in and out. started to leak oil, had to have head gasket replaced under warranty, then had to have radiator hose replaced. 2012 timing belt pops, engine damaged costing almost $2000. today december 2012, radiator cracks all the way open in the middle of holiday traffic. terrible horrible car to be a 2005. seems like i can't go a month without something else going wrong. feels unsafe at all times! *tr

Tl- the contact owns a 2005 suzuki forenza. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign id number: 07v452000 (exterior lighting) and took the vehicle to the dealer where recall repairs were performed. after the repairs, the wiring for the headlights became burned, causing the head lights, air bags and the radio to fail. the contact took the vehicle back to the dealer and was advised that the recall repairs caused a small fire in the wiring under the dashboard. the dealer performed a second repair at no cost to the contact however, the failure recurred. the contact later received notification of nhtsa campaign id number:12v397000(electrical system:wiring;interior/under dash) for the wiring harness but was told by the manufacturer that even though the dealer had stated that the previous recall repair caused the wiring failure, they would only cover the exact component that was listed in the recall and the contact would be liable for any additional repairs. the vehicle was not further repaired. the failure mileage was unavailable and the current mileage was 126,000. kmj

My car has been properly maintained and has a little over 65,000 miles and the transmissions range sensor circuit has started malfunctioning.

Headlight switch has melted wires now the headlights will not work. there was a recall to fix melted wires in a splice pack but suzuki will not honor it because now the wires are melted in the headlight switch. this is a fire hazard and they should be held accountable.

Ever since i bought my 2005 suzuki forenza wagon, i have had problems with it starting. i would turn the key and the engine would sound like it was going to start, but i would then have to turn the all the way to the off position to restart and then it would finally turn over. i have brought my car in three different times to the dealership where i purchased it and they say nothing is wrong with it. obviously there is. they try to say it is from the cold or something else and they claim they have done all they can do and that nothing is wrong with it. it has had this problem in summer, fall, winter, and spring. it even happened in az in september when it was 110 degrees. my warranty is up in june and i need to have this corrected before then. i also maintain my car very well, so that isn't the problem either. *tr

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - WIRING

Electrical problems with day running lights. was told by dealer that it was not bulbs but would be safe - just no day running lights. three days later (first time run with headlights on after being at dealer) smelled electrical burning. took to personal mechanic. wires are melted together. since tsb issued feel that i should be reimbursed for the expenses by the manufacturer. *tr

Low beam headlights went out. only high beams work. all fuses good, replaced bulbs, still good and to this day still unfixed. no service department in jonesboro arkansas to test electrical system to find out why low beam headlights do not operate. no running day lights either. day light switch says on but is not on. continuing problem and do not drive car at night. *jb email interview update (may 7, 2007):the dealer had to take the dashboard apart and get to the wiring behind the firewall. (the area behind the gauges). the low beam wiring was burnt as was the plastic harness suzuki used to keep the wires together. the wiring for the low beam lights was cut and reattached outside the harness. the mechanic had to call suzuki technical service to discover this, as the dealer ordered a light switch assembly for my car. it was replaced but still no lights so that was not the problem. the mechanic also stated suzuki knows of this but because no damage has been reported they did not issue a recall of harness. my harness would of caught the car on fire because it was burnt and melted. the dealer was very helpful but did not state on invoice the area they really fixed and charged suzuki with the light assembly fixture only. the lights work fine now but i wander if the other wires attached to this area will do the same thing.

This is a rough draft of the letter i will be sending to suzuki: i bought my suzuki forenza in february of 2005. i have taken my car three times to suzuki of west broward for an oil leak. the first time they told me that i had an aftermarket oil filter (from meineke). i had my doubts that this was the problem. i authorized that they change the oil filter. when i brought my car home it was still leaking. i was charged $28.04 for the service that didn't solve the problem. i brought the car back and it was diagnosed as having a porous oil pan. i was not refunded (nor offered to be refunded) my $28.04 for the oil change and filter change. the parts were not in stock and i was told that they would arrive the same week. they arrived the following tuesday afternoon. the oil pan was replaced. the car was still leaking oil. i took it a third time and they could not determine the cause. they said there was a recall on the vehicle. besides the oil leak, the power steering has been making a humming sound when i would turn the steering wheel. this problem i took to bill seidles suzuki in miami. i was told that the rack and pinion was dirty. this seemed to work for some time but now there is still a lower hum. before these two setbacks, there were minor problems that arose after the 36,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty was expired. a bulb went out in the dash and the fog-light bulbs would continuously burn out. i believe this is a grounding problem in the car that produces interference on the radio directly related to my acceleration of the car. after the first year of owning this car, it has been problem after problem. i have noticed that the service centers for suzuki in south florida are of the poorest quality. there is no attention and it seems that parts are never available at the facilities for repairs. i am extremely disappointed with the performance of suzuki and the customer service of the company.
