Defect SummaryAmerican suzuki (suzuki) is conducting a safety improvement campaign involving 26,082 my 2005-2006 gsx-r1000 motorcycles. cracking or breakage of the motorcycle frame can occur in certain extreme situations where unusually high stress is placed on the frame. repeated hard landings from hazardous maneuvers such as extreme or extended wheelies or other stunts may generate sufficient stress to cause this problem.
Consequence SummaryIf the frame becomes broken during extreme use, a crash could occur.
Corrective SummaryDealers will inspect the frame for cracks. if no cracks are found, a frame reinforcement brace will be attached to the frame using bolts and epoxy adhesive. should cracks be found during the inspection, the frame will be replaced with a new frame that has the reinforcement brace installed. the campaign began on january 21, 2009. owners may contact suzuki at 1-714-572-1490.
NotesSuzuki campaign no. 2a08.this action is deemed a safety improvement campaign and is not being conducted under the safety act. however, suzuki has informed nhtsa that it will provide the modifications described above free of charge.

I received a recall letter from suzuki motors about my 06 gsxr 1000. the recall is for the frame cracking under stress. i took the frame to a local suzuki dealership and they told me the frame had a hairline crack in it. the service manager informed me the frame was on the recall list and that it most likely should be replaced. he sent photos of the frame to suzuki motors almost a month and a half ago. three weeks into the process they had a service rep from the dealer come to my house and took pics of the other parts of my motorcycle. i was told that was all suzuki needed to complete the process. then another week went past and i still got no response back from the dealer so i went to the dealership and the service manager gave me a check list suzuki had emailed him and told me they needed more detailed pics. i went down the check list and took all the pics they requested. its now two weeks later and still no answer from suzuki motors. the service manager told me he should be getting and answer from suzuki by this week. i don't think suzuki has resolved this problem in a very timely manner and i am very frustrated. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 suzuki gsx-r1000. while riding over a bump at 95 mph, the main frame underneath the fuel tank snapped. the vehicle was destroyed and towed to the dealer. the contact was injured. the dealer inspected the vehicle and stated that the failure was due to driver error and not a manufacturer defect. the contact, however, believes it was due to a manufacturer defect. the powertrain was unknown. the current and failure mileages were 9,000.
