On september 26, 2007, toyota filed a defect information report and notified nhtsa that some of its model year (my) 2007 and 2008 lexus e350 and toyota camry vehicles could experience unintended and uncontrolled acceleration due to interference between the optional all weather floor mat offered on those vehicles and the vehicles' accelerator pedal.this decision was influenced by an office of defects investigation (odi) engineering analysis.this recall was designated 07e082.two years later, on october 5, 2009, toyota filed a defect information report and notified nhtsa that a number of its my 2004-2009 lexus and toyota vehicles may also experience unintended and uncontrolled acceleration due to interference between the accelerator pedal and the driver's floor mat.this recall was designated 09v388.several months later, on january 27, 2010, toyota filed an amended, or supplemental, defect information report and expanded the population of vehicles to include additional my 2008-2010 toyota and lexus vehicles.since this expansiontook place in a different calendar year, this recall was designated 10v023.separately on january 21, 2010, toyota filed a defect information report and notified nhtsa that certain toyota vehicles and certain pontiac vibe vehicles contained a safety defect in the accelerator pedal assembly that may cause the accelerator pedal to become harder to depress, slower to return, or in the worse case, mechanically stuck in a partially depressed position.nhtsa designated this recall 10v017.in total, the four recalls cover over 7.6 million toyota and lexus vehicles as well as the pontiac vibe product made by new united motor manufacturing, inc., a venture of toyota and general motors corporation.nhtsa requires additional information from toyota to more fully understand and evaluate, among other things, whether the scope of the recalls identified above (makes, models and model years) is sufficiently broad.the agency is seeking to determine whether toyota viewed the underlying defects too narrowly as interference between the accelerator pedal and the driver

On may 2008 i was in a one car accident on the major freeway, determined by the police and sited a ticket for not being able to control the car. all i remember is my car accelerated and i went to slow down and lost control. my car was totalled and in pieces on the freeway. this vechicle had always accelerated since i had purchased it and determine that it was the type of car and was normal. i never received a recall on this vehicle until when i went to take another vehicle to get repaird i asked them if they had a recall with all of the media exposure. at that time they informed me that they did have a recall and i asked and was told.

The day after my car had 3 recalls corrected, i was driving around 20 mph when the car started to take off. i put the brake on real hard and got it stopped at about 35 mph. needless to say my passenger and i were scared to death. *tr

This is not a complaint, but a follow up to complaints regarding the toyota automobile that their throttle sticks open causing unwanted acceleration. march 2006 i bought a new toyota avalon xls from david bruce, bourbonnais, il. about six months following this purchase, i was pulling away from a red light accelerating rather quickly. when i let up on the accelerator, the car continued to accelerate. while applying the brake with the left foot, i put my right foot under the accelerator petal in an effort to raise it. it was not stuck in a downward position and i was able to raise it up and down with my foot with the car still accelerating. at this point i stomped on the accelerator petal many hard times with my right foot. finally the problem resolved itself and the acceleration stopped. i tried to duplicate this problem many times afterwards without success. i looked at the accelerator petal, floor mat, and the area around it to make sure that there was nothing the might have caused this problem. i talked to david bruce about it and figured it was a freak occurrence. over the past two years i never thought about it again until the news media and toyota began an investigation into the problem. when this problem occurred, i did not think of using the start/off button to shut off the engine, but am aware of it now. the reason for the letter is that toyota is looking at the driver side floor mat as a possible problem and i feel that this is not the area where the problem is occurring. in my case i am 95 percent certain it was not a floor mat that caused the acceleration as i was able to put my foot under the accelerator pedal without the decrease its acceleration. but, in all fairness to toyota, there could have been an unknown reason why my floor mat interacted with the accelerator petal that i did not see. *tr

On sunday, september 6, 2009, my mother was driving my 2006 toyota avalon when she was involved in a crash due to an acceleration problem with the vehicle. she was also involved in a crash in my garage when the floor mat got stuck on the accelerator and cause her to run into the wall of the garage. i also have experienced several instances of acceleration after taking my foot off the gas pedal when attempting to brake which caused me to have to slam on the brakes to stop the vehicle. the insurance company deemed the car a total loss and it was only when i received the settlement papers from the insurance company did i find out there were problems with the airbags as toyota never sent me any correspondence regarding the problem with the airbags, the floor mats or the accelerator. *tr

My 2006 toyota avalon has been giving me problems with the floor mats and accelerator getting stuck for over two years and now the accelerator gets stuck on its own. i am afraid to drive it back and forth on the highway and hope that toyota would replace it with a rental car until it can fix it. *tr

Purchased 2006 toyota avalon limited with navigation system. over time, navigation system did not work properly. spoke with numerous people at toyota, and they all agreed: 1) navigation system does not function as intended 2) there is no known solution 3) toyota is not looking for a fix to problem 4) toyota apologizes for selling a defective product and offers no solution or alternative 5) toyota continued to sell navigation systems that did not work correctly. *tr
