| Car would not start, kept cranking, some times would sputter. after 10 minutes or so of repeatly trying finally it started but sputtered severly for about 30 seconds then rev up normally. drove to dealer. had to pay for diagnostic fee of $110 + $10.95 for efi cleaner. learned symptoms were as stated in tech service bulletin tsb-0182-09 where engine control module (ecm) would cause the engine to misfire terribly. fix was to have program update and reflash ecm. the efi cleaner added because misfires may foul fuel injectors. dealer said they would be nice and not charge me for the reflash /update of the ecm. there should have benn no charges at all. i hear 8 years warranty on ecm-what does that include, only flash updates and not diagnostic fees? four recalls and now this. what's next for my 2009 corolla with <14,000 miles and just 7 months out of warranty. shame on toyota. | |||

| I have had this corolla for about 3 years, average about 700 miles per week - drive it daily. i have had no significant issues with it until the past month or so in which i have experienced two sudden acceleration events. in both cases i was traveling at a very low speed, about 10 mph or so in parking lots. while coasting / braking with my foot on the brake pedal, suddenly it was as if the brake pedal turned into an accelerator pedal! i felt all of the back-pressure the brake pedal normally has leave and it went almost completely down to the floor. at the very same instant the engine revved and began to accelerate and the car leaped forward. in both cases this lasted only a few seconds then things went back to normal. there were no indicator lights on the panel warning of anything wrong. in both cases my foot was clearly on the brake pedal and nowhere near the accelerator pedal. i visually inspected the floor mat and there was absolutely no interference between it and the accelerator pedal. this car has already had all of toyota's recall remedies applied to it and could be easily ascertained by examining the maintenance records at butler toyota of macon, georgia. i would like it if someone could examine the car's computer (not the toyota people for obvious reasons)to see if these events were recorded or not. until now i have liked this car very much in every way. however, considering all of the recent reports and now my personal experiences twice i am very much concerned about the car's safety. | |||

| 2009 toyota corolla. consumer states issues with screeching noise *tgw the consumer stated the noise would occur, when she started the vehicle, followed by the battery light illuminating. the battery light would eventually go off and then the vehicle would make the screeching noise again. the problem started intermittently in october and one day it completely drained the battery. the battery was replaced and the issue continued, becoming more frequent. when the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, they informed her the problem was the drive belt, which was replaced. the noise continued and a hot burning smell appeared after the screeching noise. the consumer went to get a second opinion and was informed the problem was the clutch pulley in which a recall had been issued, but not for her model. the consumer then went back to the dealer with the new information and was told she needed a new alternator. the consumer also stated there was an issue with the vehicle idling in a strange manner. the vehicle randomly vibrated and idled very low when stopping at a red light or stop sign. *jb | |||

| Bought used 2009 toyotoa corolla (5 speed manual clutch) vehicle in mid 2011. noticed that the gas pedal, break and clutch are oddly very close, and gas pedal seems to stick, which seems to cause error in shifting/ acceleration/ de-acceleration, especially when using in between gears. not sure what that is all about, or whether or not there has been a prior complaint about this or recall, but i think it should be brought to the attention and fixed by toyota for safety reasons. | |||

| I was currently on 1 and 9 north of jersey city nj. i was on a stop light and when it turned green, the car did not accelerate as much as it was suppose to when you press on gas pedal. it was literally moving 5 miles per hour. i was pressing the gas pedal for the car to go but it was still not even moving up. i turned on the hazards and pulled over. then the check engine light came on. i turned off the car first. i checked the gas tank and the engine but i couldn't find anything wrong with it. the check engine light was lit until the next day. i brought it to the car dealership and they said they are not 100% sure what is wrong with it but they disconnected the alarm wire to see if that was the problem. the second problem of this car is when you press on the brake, it still moves a little bit. when you start going and pressing on the gas pedal, you have to press on it harder for it to go but it gases up than it normally does. i have recently saw the previous owners receipts for its car service and he had the same problem. he always had to fix the accelerator but until now, it is still the same and still needs to be fixed. i don't know what to do and where to go to fix this problem. | |||

| 2009 toyota corolla car was recalled for brake problem. when i have the below problem, the brakes will not stop the car. engine revs up for no reason when the car is stopped. in my case, all engine speed ups occurred when i was stopped, and my foot was on the brake. it has happened about 10 times since i have owned the car. the last time it occurred, i was stopped at a stop sign, and the engine sped up and forced me into the intersection, where i ran into the side of a pickup. the engine has sped up when i first started the car, and the car was in park, and my foot on the brake. toyota has looked at my car and said there is nothing wrong with it. toyota said that i had an after market floor mat on the drivers side and that is a no/no. when the engine sped up with me driving, there was no mat on the driver side floor, except the toyota mat and it was restrained by the clips. do car manufactures ever look at comments made my their customers? in my case, i was told no. | |||

| Very often, my 2009 corolla will have a very low idle, the car acts as it is going to stall. it shudders, the tach drops low, but then will come back up. it happens several times per week when i am either backing up or going from a stop into first gear. i have driven only manual transmissions for over 26 years, and this is the first vehicle i have owned that this has happened with. i fear i will be hit from behind, or t-boned when the car acts as if it wants to stall. it never has stalled, but it frightens us. as i mentioned, the car shudders, shakes when this happens to us. we feel it may have something to do with a low idle problem, either with the electronics or software. we have taken it back to the dealer a few times, but it's the famous can not duplicate answer. we only drive this vehicle usually from april to late october. we live in the snowbelt of ohio and drive our 4x4 jeep nov. through march. i also drive a 2001 manual transmission honda civic, with never theses issues. i can't give incident dates, this happens frequently during each week, ever since i took delivery of this car in march, 2008. again, this is a 2009 corolla s. *tr | |||

| My daughter and son-in-law while driving in their 09 toyota corolla, experienced uncontrolled acceleration; on a straight piece of dry pavement, causing the vehicle to shoot into the oncoming lane (a condition known as torsional steering by some) on a 2 way traffic road striking a car in the oncoming lane and thus causing a major accident. there were only slight injuries. though the wheels were pointed straight ahead, the car veered left as the car uncontrollably sped up. my son-in-law states that his foot was not on the pedal. the action initiated after he depressed the pedal to accelerate along with other traffic. the car was repair by the insurance but still has the original problem. it has only done it the time that the car was involved in the accident and my daughter and son in law have been reluctant to use it since the accident so thus we have not had the experience recur. yes the original part is available and still on the vehicle, though toyota is scheduled to either repair it or replace it soon. *tr | |||

| Oil consumption problems on 2009 corolla made first oil change at 3111 miles now 5031 miles oil is barely showing 2000 miles in 7 months where is the oil i feel toyota has fudged by using 0w-20 to 5w-20 to pass cafe standards for fuel mileage or they have ring problems a new car should not lose this much oil something is wrong and i don't want to see car damaged by there engineering failure. *tr | |||

| Bought brand new (3miles) corolla le on friday, jan 2, 2009. on jan 5, while making a turn into a parking lot, the car completely froze: no steering, no acceleration, no braking possible. all dashboard lights came on. i came to a stop (luckily, the parking lot was semi-empty); turned off the ignition, restarted the car. all dashboard lights were off- but the check engine stayed on. called the dealer who recommended bringing the car to service for a check. drove there (7 miles)- the check engine light remained on the whole time. the mechanic said that the engine light doesn't come on. was given the car back (after road test by the mechanic and, presumably, a computerized check) and told that there is nothing wrong with the car. feel completely unsafe driving the vehicle now. *tr | |||

| Our 2007 toyota corolla has a failure in the air conditioning system. after the winter, the a/c was turned on and it would not cool. freon was put into the system and it cooled down again. however, a hissing noise was coming from the car after putting in the freon. turns out there is a leak in the air conditioner's condenser. the tsb on the 2003 - 3005 corolla indicated there was a problem with the air conditioning system. supposedly, toyota corrected this problem on future corolla's, but evidently there is still a problem with it. we are having the condenser replaced. *tr | |||

| Approaching red light, car in neutral, right foot depressing brake, left resting on clutch, and car was slowing down when engine revved (watched tachometer needle jump). as engine revved i checked to make sure that right foot was not near gas pedal (wasn't). this was second occurrence of the engine revving when gas pedal was not engaged. apparently there is a recall for this defect. i am not an automotive engineer. gas pedal will be modified by dealer within the week, but both times my feet were not near the pedal when the rpm's increased. *tr | |||

| I own a 2009 toyota corolla that has had numerous incidents of not starting. the vehicle will not start after sitting for a period of time, however, it will start after numerous attempts to do so. this vehicle was purchased brand new in april 2008. i have had this vehicle in the shop on three separate occasions with this same issue and they tell me they cannot find a cause for this. this has also happened four other times that i did not take the vehicle to the garage since they informed me they could not fix it if it would not repeat the behavior. the occurrence is very sporadic and there is no way to know when it will happen again. the last time it was in the garage they placed a fuel additive in the gas tank to fix the problem... still no resolve. *tr | |||

| I purchased a 2009 toyota corolla in march 2008. since the purchase i've had an issue of a rotten egg sulphur odor emitting from the emissions exhaust system and into the car cabin. the problem has known to occur while accelerating the gas pedal and coming to an idle or stop. it occurs during town driving, inclines, highways speeds, and upon starting vehicle. i have returned the car to the dealer 4 times for this issue. the the dealer from whom i purchased the vehicle stated they couldn't find or duplicate the issue. toyota tech performed evaluation of components related to fuel trim and possible related performance. the dealer stated they found no bulletins or related issue with the toyota tech data system. i was also informed to try another brand of gas.. i took the car to a second dealer after discovering engine consumed 3 quarts of oil. they performed a tsb0145-08 2zrfe engine oil consumption reflash concerning the ecm. i was informed that this may resolve the sulphur rotten egg odor or that the catalytic converter needed a break-in period. during the winter of 2010 the rotten egg odor had become worse. to be more specific the vehicle cabin area filled with an intense rotten egg odor after restarting the car upon driving up an incline. i took the car in for service with the same complaint and they performed a repeated technical service bulletin for excessive oil consumption. they stated exhaust system seemed ok.. toyota recommended a different grade of gas. i was informed by the service advisor that gasoline contains more sulphites in the winter and may be the cause.. since purchasing this car i was diagnosed with a lymphoma cancer a year later to be exact. this has been an on going issue. i've tried several brand gasolines and grades as they recommeded. i've been in remission from the cancer for a year now and no longer driving the car for the fear that the car is a hazard to my health. also, i have prior lung condition called copd. | |||

| Ever since i purchased my 2009 toyota corolla i have noticed steering difficult. i read blogs at the time and it seemed from what i read, that this was just a draw back of the car, so i let it go. i feel i need to report it now. the steering feels way to responsive to even the slightest hand movement of the wheel, or bump in the road. because the suspension on this model is so stiff, a bump in the road can cause my hand to move a tiny bit, resulting in the car moving much more than one would expect from little movement. the best way to sum up the problem is this; it is near impossible to just go straight, or hold the wheel still for a second. you have to constantly move slightly to the right or the left just to keep in the middle of your lane. going around curves smoothly is difficult as well. if it is windy this problem is 10 fold, and down right dangerous. i have already skidded off a snowy highway because the car so easily fish tailed while trying to correct my steering. luckily there was no damage, had there been vehicle in the lane next to mine, there would have been a horrific crash. in my 17 years of driving i have never fish tailed before. the alignment and tires have been checked and are fine. i had the brake recall done before the above mentioned incident. there doesn't feel to be an alignment issue. the car does not pull. the steering just seems far too sensitive, this combined with it's odd aerodynamic response, and bumpy ride make the steering feel very unsafe at times. even when it doesn't feel dangerous, it is tiring to have to constantly adjust the wheel right and left just to keep it in lane. i've never had a steering issue like this with any other car. there is also the overwhelming smell of sulfur in the passenger cabin several times a week, seems the catalytic converter doesn't handle it well. took it to a dealer for the sulfur issue and they said that's normal. makes me light headed at times, on top of just stinking up my new car. *tr | |||
