Defect SummaryToyota is recalling certain model year 2008-2009 scion xd and my 2009-2010 corolla, and corolla matrix vehicles equipped with 1.8l engine and originally sold in or currently registered in the states of alaska, colorado, idaho, illinois, iowa, kansas, maine, michigan, minnesota, montana, nebraska, nevada, new hampshire, new york, north dakota, south dakota, vermont, wisconsin, and wyoming. when driving under certain unique conditions in extremely low ambient temperatures, the intake manifold suction port for the brake vacuum can become blocked due to the freezing of condensation resulting from positive crankcase ventilation.
Consequence SummaryThis could lead to an increase in vehicle stopping distance and a crash could occur.
Corrective SummaryDealers will install a newly designed intake air connector which will relocate the brake system vacuum port. this service will be performed free of charge. the recall began on september 21, 2009. owners may contact toyota at 1-800-331-4331.

The front brakes produce a very loud rattling noise, whenever the brakes are applied and its almost as if the car is not going to stop and cause an accident. i am afraid the brakes are going to completely fail one day and cause an accident. when i took it to the dealer for a checkup, the dealer indicated that toyota is investigating the noise, but it might be too late before they do anything. please help by investigating this issue. *tr

I have a 2009 toyota corolla le that i purchased a month ago and is still under factory warranty. a few days ago i went to stop my vehicle and the brake pedal went all the way flush to the ground. there was not any resistance at all and was forced to use the emergency brake to prevent a colision. had car towed to the toyota dealership and two days later they are informing me that they are unable to find anything wrong with the breaks. i purchased this vehicle for my 17 year old daughter to drive to school and am very weary about being told that nothing is wrong with the vehicle. i then began to research on the computer to see if this might be a recalled item or if anyone else has had this simular problem. well sure enough there have been several toyota corolla owners with the same year that have had the same problem that i experienced. i would apprecite if someone could check into this for not only me but ofr everyone's safety.

My wife has experianced brake fade, brake failure and inconsistant braking with her 2009 corolla. i have noted that this seems to be related to temperature, humidity and warmup of the operating system. the situation was briefly improved after the previous recall for the brake boostedr problem but returned in 60 days. toyota seems to not care about this issue

2009 toyota corolla - gas pedal sticking problem while on the family driveway traveling at about 5 miles per hour, car rapidly accelerated forward after i removed my foot from the gas pedal. pushing the brake down as hard as i could the car continued traveling forward crashing into my daughter's car, then pushing her car through the right side of the garage door & through the house wall completely damaging my daughter's car (totaled) destroying the garage door while smashing down that portion of the house wall. and then further inside colliding into a large dryer & washing finally coming to rest against an inside house wall beam & concrete. my daughter was almost hit as she was on the other side of the wall when the cars crashed through. we've always maintained that it was toyota's fault as it was without question, a case of unintended acceleration--the car rapidly accelerated forward on its own, but toyota insisted it was not the cause of their car. toyota, at my cost and our insurance company, state farm, made all the repairs to the car--toyota refused to take liability for involvement with the cause of the accident. so there we were, who could refute mighty toyota

I was driving in a parking lot on the main driveway leading out of parking lot. i was stuck by a truck in the rear passenger side. the other drivers truck struck my back wheel taking most of the impact. wheel physically looks straight and does not show any wobble when watching it drive. no airbags deployed yet i could not steer or brake my vehicle. almost as if everything froze when i was impacted. vehicles power was still on but nothing worked after impact. i ended up crashing into shopping carts and curb after impact because i could not stop. this could have been a disaster if i was not in a parking lot. i would be dead if this was on a highway. *tr

On, march 7, 2010 around 6:30pm, going on the highway, without any warning. the 2009 toyota corolla model le, went totally out of control. i was on the far right lane, heading from toa baja to mayaguez on pr-22. reaching arecibo, by highway mark (km 74.2) the car steering went totally to the left and in fractions of seconds my car invaded the left lane doing a 180 degree turn, had cars coming my way and just when i tough the other car was going to hit me. the steering on the car went completely the opposite direction and the car rolled again and i was going over the green area crazy fast. no control, spinning again over the grass area on the middle of the highway, heading right into the opposite side of the highway, cars coming at 65 mph or more. then the car hit a street sign that changed the car trajectory and then came to a stop on the green area on the middle of the highway. the car ended all covered on grass, mud and impacted by the street sign that possibly prevented my car from invading the lanes on the opposite direction on the highway after the toyota corolla steered violently and uncontrollable seconds before. i have to say, this was an extreme situation that for who knows reason, all happened in a split second without warning and all the violent extreme movements happened without my car impacting other cars on the highway, but clearly i was very lucky. at the moment of the incident, a passenger was with me in the car and then can confirm has witness of the extreme car experience we endured. *tr

While driving my 2009 toyota corolla is slow moving traffic, maybe 20mph i was braking and realized that i was getting close to the toyota tundra in front of me. and it frightened me because i almost hit the truck. i had to press my brake pedal all the way to the floor it didn't seem like it was grabbing and it made an awful noise and i stopped just shy of hitting the tundra. i made a call to toyota last year but i wasn't one of the states that they considered to get ambient low temperatures. well we got into the low 20's and teens many of nights and last night was in the 30's with frost on the car. how cold does it have to be? i have had my washer fluid freeze up a few times. *tr

While driving our 2009 toyota corolla on a slick, snow-covered roadway, a vehicle in front of my wife stopped rather quickly. she was traveling about 15-20 miles per hour, upon braking, the anti-lock brakes kicked in and seemed to completely disengage the brakes. the anti-lock brakes fired slowly, the pedal strongly resisted being pressed and the car kept on going, she had to swerve into a gas station to avoid rear-ending the vehicle in front of her. two days later, it snowed again, and i was able to reproduce the problem on our street. driving at a speed of 20-25 mph, i quickly applied the brakes and experienced the same resistance to pressing of the brakes, the same slow firing of the anti-lock system, and the same feeling of complete disengagement of the brakes. the car took nearly 120 feet to stop (this is a very gross estimate based on property sizes). after this experience, we tested the brakes on our toyota rav 4 on the same road and got significantly better performance - the vehicle stopped in less than 60 feet (again, gross estimate) and did not exhibit the resistance to pressing or the slow firing of the abs. upon taking the vehicle to a dealer, we were informed that everything tested fine and there was no problem and nothing to fix. the problem recurred again in similar conditions two days later. the dealer has offered to allow us to bring the car in on a day when a rep from toyota will be present, but i feel that they do not believe us, and am not optimistic that they will be able to diagnose the cause. *tr

This is for a 2009 toyota corolla le. sometimes, after i hit the brakes, the car seems to stop gradually and the front wheels tend to shake heavily. (almost seems like the wheels are going to fall off). i took it to the dealer and they said that it could have been the abs kicking in. i am still not satisfied by the dealers remedy. they basically did nothing. the problem happens mostly on wet surfaces and light snow. but because of that, every time i hit the brakes, i have to pray the car to stop. *tr

I brought my corolla 2009 in nov 2008 . in feb 2009 i took it to lansing ,mi dealer saying brakes went down to the floor. i had hard time to stop my car. they send me back saying nothing is wrong. there was a brake recall few months later. i am again facing the same problem. i avoided banging my car twice . i took my car to toyota dealer . the service personnel instead of looking for problem said he can't help me put on the brakes as it winter. i told them i want to talk to his service manager. the service manager assured me that he will check the problem. the rear brakes were not aligned properly . frankly i can't trust that car. i feel that cars 2 basic functionalities went wrong. 1. brake 2. gas pedal. if toyota can't get 2 basic things right they should stop making cars. *tr

I was driving straight on the mass pike in framingham, ma, and my car began to lose control. i neither hit anything nor did i lose control of the car. the brakes stopped working and i could not turn the steering wheel. this resulted in my car swerving out of control, hitting the barrier and flipping over. my car landed directly on top of 2 of the 6 air bags i have in my car, and not one airbag deployed after barrel rolling my car. my car is now totaled and i am undergoing physical therapy for severe whiplash to my back and neck. my insurance company has considered the accident a human error, yet i did nothing to cause the accident. my friend who has been a car mechanic for over 20 years feels that it was a mechanical flaw on the vehicle, and does not see how the accident could have been caused by me. i would like to talk to someone regarding a possible manufacturer's error on my new but totaled 09 toyota corolla. *tr

2009 toyota corolla - japanese built abs/brake warning lights at approximately 31,000 miles. 1. diagnostic computer indicates trouble codes c0210 (speed sensor failure) and c1238 (plug to right rear wheel assembly). plug to abs sensor and terminal repair kit work at 32, 126 miles. 2. 2nd diagnostic computer reading indicates inactivity with left rear abs sensor. abs/brake warning lights again . in addtion, lights are now accompanied by frequent loud noises in the engine compartment, significant vibration though the brake pedal, momentary partial brake failure. 3. return for 3rd inspection of both left/right rear wheel hub assemblies. mechanics again reinspect, clean and apply electric grease to both rear abs sensors and road test the vehicle. same issues reappear after only few miles of 3rd repair. mechanics now determine there is too much corroision in the right rear abs speed sensor connection in the right rear wheel hub assembly for the abs speed sensor plug to connect securely and the right rear wheel assembly must be replaced. this is an expensive part at $372-$443 retail plus labor for either japanese/north american built corollas. the accompanying loud noise in the engine comparment has been determined to be the separate but associated abs module within the engine compartment. the defective abs speed sensor/rear wheel hub assembly in the right rear wheel causes incorrect readings by the abs module in the engine compartment, incorrectly assuming there is wheel slippage at certain wheels and causing the abs module to go haywire in attempts to correct what it thinks is wheel slippage. this appears to be a common defect since similar complaints have been filed; see consumer complaints/odi case numbers 10381428 (2/10/11) and 10320698 (3/18/10).

I have had this corolla for about 3 years, average about 700 miles per week - drive it daily. i have had no significant issues with it until the past month or so in which i have experienced two sudden acceleration events. in both cases i was traveling at a very low speed, about 10 mph or so in parking lots. while coasting / braking with my foot on the brake pedal, suddenly it was as if the brake pedal turned into an accelerator pedal! i felt all of the back-pressure the brake pedal normally has leave and it went almost completely down to the floor. at the very same instant the engine revved and began to accelerate and the car leaped forward. in both cases this lasted only a few seconds then things went back to normal. there were no indicator lights on the panel warning of anything wrong. in both cases my foot was clearly on the brake pedal and nowhere near the accelerator pedal. i visually inspected the floor mat and there was absolutely no interference between it and the accelerator pedal. this car has already had all of toyota's recall remedies applied to it and could be easily ascertained by examining the maintenance records at butler toyota of macon, georgia. i would like it if someone could examine the car's computer (not the toyota people for obvious reasons)to see if these events were recorded or not. until now i have liked this car very much in every way. however, considering all of the recent reports and now my personal experiences twice i am very much concerned about the car's safety.

Bought used 2009 toyotoa corolla (5 speed manual clutch) vehicle in mid 2011. noticed that the gas pedal, break and clutch are oddly very close, and gas pedal seems to stick, which seems to cause error in shifting/ acceleration/ de-acceleration, especially when using in between gears. not sure what that is all about, or whether or not there has been a prior complaint about this or recall, but i think it should be brought to the attention and fixed by toyota for safety reasons.

The accident with my 2009 toyota corrolla i believe is due to brake failure. this vehicle has many feature that were supposed to react in situations of minor ice and/or sliding. the sliding light, or vsc/trac indicator (pg. 158 of owner's manual), comes on even when the vehicle slides. even when the car slides so slightly that you cannot feel it, that light would come on to warn the driver of the potential hazard, according to the manual if the vehicle is in danger of slipping or the front wheels spin, the indicator flashes to indicate that the vsc/trac have been engaged. a buzzer (intermittent) sounds to indicate that vsc is operating. the car was also equipped with antilock brakes. as i was trying to slow down, i could instantly tell my brakes were not responding. i hit them harder, still no response. i had both feet on the brakes pushing down with all my force & still felt and heard nothing from the car. usually in such case, even if the vehicle is slipping, the driver should hear a tripping noise, that the antilock breaks are responding or at least attempting to. but none of that happened. the sliding light did not turn on, the car did not react to me hitting the brakes or even show any signs of struggling to, & the antilock brakes did not engage. also, i just had 4 new michelin hydroedge tires installed just a few weeks prior, (ranked #1 by consumer report), making me believe that the brakes were solely responsible. lastly, the car has been well-maintained since it was originally purchased from the dealer, & all maintenance has been done only at a toyota dealership, including a 27 point inspection with every oil change, & all records of such are available. i understand of course that ice trumps all, including vehicle safety measures, but i still believe strongly that the car did not react as it should have on a mechanical and technical level whatsoever.

I was currently on 1 and 9 north of jersey city nj. i was on a stop light and when it turned green, the car did not accelerate as much as it was suppose to when you press on gas pedal. it was literally moving 5 miles per hour. i was pressing the gas pedal for the car to go but it was still not even moving up. i turned on the hazards and pulled over. then the check engine light came on. i turned off the car first. i checked the gas tank and the engine but i couldn't find anything wrong with it. the check engine light was lit until the next day. i brought it to the car dealership and they said they are not 100% sure what is wrong with it but they disconnected the alarm wire to see if that was the problem. the second problem of this car is when you press on the brake, it still moves a little bit. when you start going and pressing on the gas pedal, you have to press on it harder for it to go but it gases up than it normally does. i have recently saw the previous owners receipts for its car service and he had the same problem. he always had to fix the accelerator but until now, it is still the same and still needs to be fixed. i don't know what to do and where to go to fix this problem.

I have two related concerns about the 2009 corolla s with traction and stability control. it is my belief that there is an unresolved software issue with the abs / stability system. i noticed the first issue at only 6000 miles, right after my second service at the toyota dealer. they performed the brake manifold recall related to nhtsa campaign id number: 09v338000 during that service. the front brakes began to shake violently during braking from 65 mph. it felt like the rotors were severely warped when this occurred. this does not occur every time. the toyota dealer examined the vehicle and they stated they could not find any issues and would not test the vehicle above 55 mph. each time i took the vehicle in for a scheduled service, the problem would suddenly get worse again. they like to tighten the rear brakes each time. i asked them to leave the rear brakes alone and did not see the normal aggravation of the front disk pulsation issue. i do still see severe vibration periodically. this symptom appears to occur most when the ambient external temperature is lower than 2 degrees below freezing and all the lights are fully lit. due to the sporadic nature of the vibration, my concern is that the abs system is unable to keep up or there is a voltage fluctuation with all the lights on that triggers the system to pulse the brakes intentionally. i have found others are seeing the same type of issue and noticed that you have a similar request odi id number: 10359202 from someone that has the same year and model with many identical vin number digits. i currently have the original parts on the vehicle, if you need to inspect them. my secondary concern occurred when i tested the emergency (hand) brake on a long straight road. the stability control system threw the vehicle from side to side violently which could easily cause complete loss of control. this appears to be a software issue due to an

My 2009 toyota corolla sport has been having brake issues since i bought the vehicle about 3 months ago brand new with only 6 miles on it. it started with brake noises. both me and my girlfriend heard them. we are not deaf. i took my toyota in for service on the problem twice and both times they said nothing was wrong with my vehicle. the past week i've noticed the breaking has been really difficult and you have to push down hard to stop the vehicle. so today; my third brake complaint they told me i need new rotors and that the pads are worn down the metal on metal and that the rotors were glazed over from the extreme heat. new rotors and third set of brake pads at 11,000 miles? never heard of it! somethings wrong and toyota will not admit it.

This complaint is being filed onby me as a result of the terrible safety problems i have encountered since phurscing my 2009 toyota corolla new from perfomance toyota dealership in fairfield, ohio. on 3/27/2009 my corolla sped up on its on causing me to strike a parked vehicle, and injuring myself. i called the walton, kentucky plant about this the following day. their advise to me was to take my vehicle to the dealership where i had bought it for an inspection. on april 1, 2009 i did this very thing and i was told by their mehanics that everything on my car was fine and that it was probobly just operator of the vehiles fault. leaving the dealership worried, and concerned i put my toyota corolla in the body shop for repairs. ten days later after having my vehile inspected by their mechanics and having my body repars made the same thing occured to me again when on 4/11/2009 my toyota corolla accelorated upon its own again striking a parked vehicle causing additional injuries to myself as weell as this time i was cited by the police, my insurance carrier raised my rates to nearly double the usual amount, and i am paying for a car that i am terrified at this point to be driving. when i requested print outs from the dealership of the mechanical inspection that was made bettween auto accidents they became very agitated with me, and my son to the point of complete rudness. on 22/4/2010 they made a crretion on my toyota corolla to make an attempt to fix the sudden acceloration proble, and told me to remove my drivers side floor mat that i would be recieving a new one for safteys reasons. i did this but still as of yet have not recieved any such floor mat for my car. on 5/19/2010 my son and i took my corolla in for an oil change and tire rotation when we were told of a brake recall that my car needed which would only take 40 minutes to accomplish. i told them to fix it please.i have compliied in every way.

I experienced a failure of the brakes in my 2009 toyota corolla s. i was pulling out of the parking lot at work today and approaching a busy road to turn right onto. approaching the turn at about 5 mph, i pushed the brake pedal lightly to gradually slow down to a stop to avoid entering the road into oncoming traffic. however, when the brake pedal was pushed, i heard a grinding noise and the car did not decelerate at all. it may have been the abs activating, despite the low speed and light pressure on the brake pedal. i tried applying more pressure to the brake, but there was still no deceleration. only when i released the brakes completely (which is very hard to do when you're about to drive into oncoming traffic) and reapplied pressure to the brake pedal did the brakes engage and the vehicle stop. this is the first time i have had an issue with the brakes in nearly 20,000 miles of driving this vehicle.

I have noticed that my brakes on my 2009 toyota corolla s have been not as responsive as i would assume or want them to be. this is especially noticeable when it is rainy or wet, or even damp outside. i began to notice that when it was wet my breaks sound like they are grinding when i stop and stopping distance is significantly elongated. finally on one rainy day my breaks failed as i crashed into the person in front of me. in any usual circumstance i would have had enough time to completely stop, however my breaks completely depressed to the ground and felt that they hardly slowed my car, resulting in damage to my car and injury to myself. i have brought my corolla into a toyota dealership to have the breaks looked at and they said they were completely fine, however they were unable to reproduce the circumstance under which my brakes failed, therefore resulting in them saying there was no issue with the breaks. i have had all of the recalls done on my car and i still notice that the breaks are not functioning as they should.

While applying the brakes (2009 toyota corolla le 38,000miles) on the snow or slick condition road the wheels would constantly stop/rotate as soon i would press on the brake pedal and prevented me from stopping until the car slid into a dry spot, curb, or snow bank. it seemed as if the brakes were over sensitive causing the brakes to immediately respond with the constant stop/rotate. for a couple of snow falls (09/10 season) i dealt with this by slowing down and using the brakes way before my intended stops. on 1/7/10 as i was coming over a slight decline i pressed on the brake in response to a van about 150 feet in front of me at a red light which caused the car rear end to whip around to the front across oncoming traffic land into a snow bank. at that point the car was stuck and had to be pulled out. although the tires still had sufficient tread on them (no balding) i replaced all the tires. that stopped the over sensitive reaction with the brakes. *tr

I started up my 2009 toyota corolla, then with my foot on the brake, i put the cars gear into reverse. the car started backing up, accelerating uncontrollably. the brake would not stop the car. i never touched the accelerator from the time i started the car. the car stopped when it ran into another parked vehicle. i took the car to the toyota dealership in bradford, pa. the service manager told me that there was nothing wrong with the car. he said that i stepped on the brake too hard and that disables the anti-lock brakes. they refused to look at the car. there were no floormats in my vehicle. the toyota dealership will not look at my car because they say that it is not covered by the recall because its vin number begins with a j, which means it was manufactured in japan. i am scared to drive it because i have already had the acceleration problem once and crashed. *tr

I purchased a 2009 toyota corolla in january 2009. i thought the brakes were a little sluggish and expressed that to the salesman. he said they were fine so i thought i just needed to get used to them. i had no other problem in 2009. in january of 2010, on two occasions, i experienced episodes in which the brakes failed. the problem was that they would hold and then slip several times before the car came to a stop. on at least one of these occasions, i thought i heard the engine racing while the brakes were being applied. after i heard about the corolla recall, i took my car into the dealership where i had purchased it and was told that my car was not subject to the recall. i did not understand this but asked them to keep the car until they could find and fix the cause of the malfunction because i considered the car to be a death trap. this was in february 2010 and i reported to them exactly what i have now reported to you. after about two weeks they called and told me my car was all set. when i picked up the car, they gave me an invoice which said they had taken it for a couple of test drives, checked the codes, and found no evidence of the acceleration problem despite the fact that i had told them it was a brake problem. on 2/25/10, i applied the brakes as i approached a red light and the brakes did not respond. i do not know whether the car accelerated but i do know that it did not slow down. consequently, i rear-ended the vehicle in front of me and my vehicle was badly damaged. *tr

Complete brake failure (14 months worth) and acceleration over 85-95 mph (with complete brake failure). i was injured at the time of the acceleration incident and the brakes failed completely. it occurred on january 18th, 2010. the car accelerated to 85-95 mph, and the pedal stuck. i had complete brake failure. i did not know what to do, and called my work. they told me to stick the car into neutral, and they connected me to 911. i was injured as my chest hit the steering wheel several times. i am resubmitting this complaint on the 2009 corolla i owned as it looks like the brake failure issue i filed with your agency was never investigated. i looked up the odi number today, and nothing was reported on it for followup. *tr

My car is a 2009 toyota corolla which is on the recall list. i had gone to them two day before the actual recall, because each time i would encounter a down slope or go down a hill, my car would sound like it was idling up and grinding as if it wanted to take off. it had been service a week before this happened; however, the sound of my brakes scared me so i took it back in twice. they still insisted nothing was wrong with it. then, i took it back the next day after the recall, and i was treated very rudely by the service people as well as the service manager. nothing has been done since then. i drive it daily with a prayer, because i was told that if my vin number begin with a j it is not on the recall list. however, i am very afraid or paranoid about driving it daily and especially on rainy days. when it rains my brakes squeak and sound as if they or letting out air or a balloon being rubbed against your hand. i have called several times and received no response. i have never had any problems with universal toyota until now. i was a faithful customer who has had six toyota cars that i thoroughly enjoyed, but this situation has cause me to consider other options. i am unsure of the actual date, but it was definitely the day after the recall. *tr

I've had two recalls done on my 209 corolla. the accelerator and the brakes. i've noticed that my gas pedal makes this whistle every time i accelerate. shortly, after the brake recall i've noticed a difference in my brakes. the brake was mushy, i had to press harder on the brake just to come to a complete stop, and when step on the brakes, its not smooth and my car would pull forward. i went back to toyota services to recheck my brakes only 4-6 days after i had the brake recall done. they said, they could not find anything wrong with my brakes. its been 5 days since the last visit and i just recently reared ended someone. luckily it was just a fender bender but i was lucky enough that it was nothing serious. the lady who i had reared ended had a 8-11 month child with her. i knew my brakes felt different, i knew there was something wrong but toyota failed to see that. i am really upset with toyota. i could of lost my life along with the lady and her infant. *tr

My concern is with the brake recall on toyota corollas that was started on august 26th, 2009. first, the recall only applies to 19 states....what about those of us that drive across state lines? or if the car is sold to someone from another state? then it is ok if the brakes fail? we have been waiting since august to hear from them regarding this issue. second, i no longer believe much (if anything) that toyota tells us. therefore, i want you to 1) demand that they recall all toyota corollas with the brake problem, and 2) perform your own investigation to be certain that the problem is as they describe it. thank you for your attention to this matter. *tr

When starting to operate the vehicle for the first time of the day, and it is cold out, when backing out of the driveway and applying the brakes, the rear brakes make very loud clunking noises like something is broken inside the brake assemblies on both rear wheels. i feel as if the brakes are failing, and this could possibly lead to something worse in the future. *tr

In early 2009 , one winter night, i was returning home after a night out, it has snowing and the temperature was below zero. my driveway is about 50 feet long and covered with snow and may be some ice and therefore become slippery. from the curb, i accelerate slightly to get over onto the driveway, and then i brake immediately once on the driveway. this is when i really suddenly for no reason the car is accelerating quickly and is going to hit my garage. i brake hard and find the car continue accelerating until it hit the back of my stand alone garage and cracked a few 2 by 4 pillars. my car suffer no damage. when i reported this to toyota online, i got no response from toyota canada other than this, i am very happy above my corolla and i don't have any other brake problem since then. *tr

About 5:30pm on thursday evening (2/4/10), i was driving home n on silver lake blvd & 36 st. it was lightly snowing, the streets were wet and slippery, and i was driving under 15/mph going downhill. as i pressed the brakes, the car went faster, and did not stop until i badly hit the car in front of me and went over the curb. my car is a 2009 toyota corolla. about 2-3 months ago, toyota sent me a recall notice for the brakes, much before the nationwide toyota recall hit the media. and now, even after i did recall a few months ago, this is the second time that such a brake-related incident has happened to me ever since the recall. i feel that this accident is related to another brake defect of the newly-replaced/altered brakes, and would kindly ask for it to be further investigated. *tr

I purchased a 2009 toyota corolla in november 2009. i had issues with the brakes slipping to the floor 2 weeks after purchase. this would happen when i would try to slow the car down or come to a stop. it happened sporadically. i had many near collisions and went off the road into snowbanks several times to avoid hitting other cars. toyota kept saying nothing is wrong with the car after checking the brakes. in september, i took the car in for the hydraulic service brake recall. this did not fix the problem. on december 8 & 9 the brakes went to the floor twice when i tried to stop at stop signs. i almost got killed avoiding other cars at intersections. once again, the dealership tried to duplicate the situation and found nothing wrong with the car. i told them i am terrified to drive an unsafe car which will end up crashing at some point from a faulty brake system. they said they can not do anything. i said the recall part is not effective and the consumers need to be aware. all i asked for was a new corolla and i would continue all my payments. i do not want to drive an unsafe car on the road (nor should other toyota owners). the dealership is in burlington vermont. *tr

As an owner of 2009 corolla i'm very concerned about recall for brake failure in extremely low temperatures. toyota has limited its recall and repair of this problem only to certain states. i live in nw indiana, less than 4 miles from illinois state line. illinois owners will have their brakes fixed; indiana is not on the list. toyota?s state restriction does not make any sense. nw indiana has the same weather as chicago, il and the same extreme low temperatures. additionally, i conduct a huge portion of my business and personal matters in the state of illinois. i will have to drive my car knowing that brakes can fail on me on any given day with the extreme low temperatures (and we have months of such days ahead). how is toyota allowed to discriminate between states without just cause? we all have a right to drive safe vehicles. what can be done to enforce toyota to correct this problem? *tr

My 2009 toyota corolla has had problems since i bought it in jan. 2009. it was seemed to down shift - they found nothing the horn went out. fixed two wires that were separated, (they said) after the wires were fixed, it left me in the road, stranded. would not start, making a terrible noise. wrecker towed it in. they recalibrated the computer. then i drove it on a trip for the first time since calibration and when i pressed on brake it would rev and seem to speed for a moment. i took it in and nothing found. landers in little rock, ar is where i bought it and take it for service. there are recalls on my 2009 corolla for brake problems, and other model cars of the corolla have been recalled for the surging problem while braking. i'm in a situation to where i'm making a payment on a car that i'm absolutely afraid to drive. please help me. i know they haven't driven the car as i have. they only test drive at their dealership. i'm the one at risk. with them knowing that the 2009 corolla has problems, i feel they are putting me and my family in danger. *tr

As an owner of a 2009 toyota corolla, i am very concerned about a recall for brake failure by toyota that is limited to certain states based on winter temperatures. brakes may fail at very low temperatures. i live in maryland, and maryland is not one of the states listed in the recall. i do not know how toyota arrived at which states are cold and which are not. but i have two serious objections to the state restriction. 1. while some winters are mild in maryland, others are not. for instance, last winter was very cold. i have the heating bills to prove it. 2. but by far, my most serious objection should be obvious to anyone. the whole purpose of a car is to travel. even if you live in florida and own one of the recalled vehicles, does this mean you can not drive to minnesota to spend several weeks to visit family over the holidays? does this mean i can't drive to upstate new york this winter for a vacation as i have planned? a car is not a house. it is very rare that a house moves from state to state while it is very very common that cars do. looking at the various state tags on the interstate 95 will confirm this. therefore, i am very concerned about the state limitation on this recall - particularly because it involves something as serious as possible brake failure. *tr

Recently i received a recall on my '09 toyota corolla stating there was a potential problem with the brake system vacuum port. the recall says if my vehicle is operated in extremely low temperatures, there is a possibility that condensed moisture may freeze causing a potential risk of brake failure leading to an increased risk of a crash. i live in upstate new york where the temperatures drop to freezing and below this time of year. as soon as i received this notice, i called the dealer i purchased my corolla from to make an appointment to correct this potential problem. after a good 5 minutes of being put on hold, a representative picked up and nicely asked what she could do for me. i described the recall and was put on hold again. another 4-5 minutes past and then she picked up to tell me that the service department would call me back when they weren't so busy. i am at retirement age and can't risk having an accident. the toyota dealers name is kent brown toyota in big flats, new york. i'm not even sure you people are the right people to contact but if you are your help would be appreciated. *tr

Dear sirs, i had a mechanical failure caused vehicle collision where two safety hazards should call public alert. on aug. 24, 2009 as i traveled on highway 93 south, i saw the vehicle in front of me took a sudden slow-down or stop, about 30 feet in distance, even as i floored the brake pedal, my 2009 toyota corolla did not have any brake function at all, even not a resistance force at the pedal. my vehicle reared another vehicle inside the tunnel of 93 south, under normal travel situation: road surface and lighting. and then before the deployed airbag from the driving column could have blocked my body movement forward , it exploded, the inside of my vehicle filled with smoke and funny smells. fortunately, nobody got serious injured in the collision. since my corolla is a new car under 4900 miles, this was the only time i experience the sudden mechanical failures. my insurance company, metropolitan property, has inspected the vehicle, but did not specify any mechanical failures. toyota north america also had their personnel inspected the vehicle upon received my report to them, but they may not take any responsibility to pass the information to the public, as there is also liability issue within. so far no repair work has been done to the vehicle, yet. the simultaneous failures of both brakes and airbag could be very serious safety hazards, please take note of this case and make it available to the public. if possible, i would appreciate it if you could, or let some third-party mechanic to, have my vehicle inspected. thanks. *tr

We bought a 2009 toyota corolla in oct of 2008. noticed the touchy steering, but was told that was normal by the toyota dealership. my daughter was driving it on a side street in huntington, wv when she hit a pot hole or a manhole traveling at about 15 to 20 mph. the steering locked up and she hit a parked car. it broke the abs wiring harness and caused $10,994.79 damage to car. we then found out that the tires were bald at 15,000 miles and the brakes were very thin. toyota had just service the car at 13,000 miles and did not tell me the tires or the brakes were bad. we do not know exactly what caused the steering to lock up. the repair shop could not tell us either due to the extensive damage. *tr

2009 toyota corolla. consumer states that she pressed the accelerator and the brake pedal at the same time and the vehicle accelerated through a fence. she finally got the vehicle to stop before crashing into the building. *kb the consumer stated he accelerated through a fence causing $7,566.05 in damage to his vehicle. the consumer stated even though the accident was due to driver error, the vehicle was poorly designed. the differential in height between the gas pedal and the brake pedal was 1 to 1. 25 inches when neither was depressed. they can very often be at the same height when both were depressed together which could cause driver confusion as to where the foot would be. to add to the problem, there was a firewall hump 1 inch to the right of the accelerator pedal. this leaves only 5.75 inches between that wall and the right edge of the brake pedal. the consumer stated there was not enough space to maneuver his foot. *jb
