| Car was turned off and parked in a parking lot on a normal day, i came back to it turned the car on and smoke started coming out of the power window controls on the driver side, i turned of the car right away, the smoke got worse and then there were flames. i was picking up a friend from work at a car dealership and some people working in the body shop help me put out the fire with a fire extinguisher. the window controls, door handle and door to some extant melted and were destroyed | |||

| I was driving on ca hwy 101 at 7:30pm when i smelled, then saw smoke and flames coming from the driver-side door. luckily, i had a gallon of drinking water within reach. i poured it on the fire while swerving to the margin so as to avoid collision. i extinguished the fire and disconnected the windows-switch panel. apparently, a short-circuit in the window switches ignited the sound-insulation material that should have been fire-proof to begin with. the fire melted most of the driver-side plastic door cover and partially fried the switches and associated wiring. i found the article | |||

| I have automatic locks and have never had any problems with them until recently when my front passenger side door would not open from inside or out in the unlocked position. all other doors work normally. i tried using my key to unlock it and that also failed. i took it to the dealership and they said it was a problem with a broken cable which they repaired. it was not covered under warranty. | |||

| I was going to turn into a parking spot in the work parking garage. as i moved my foot from the gas pedal to the brake, my foot knocked the floor mat causing it to jam under the gas pedal. this caused the car to accelerate into a concrete pole despite both of my feet being on the brake. i had the recall fix done to my car to insert the plastic pieces to hold the mat in place properly and was assured by the dealership that this would never be a problem; however, they were small pieces of plastic and the mat was completly disattached from both of them. the car continued to attempt to accelerate after it was stuck on the barrier until i was able to pull the floor mat out from under the accelerator. the pieces were only inserted into the carpet and not the floor boards, and the responding officer said they pulled out really easily. he was also concerned that the airbag in the car didn't deploy in this situation due to the acceleration and amount of front end damage to the car and suggested something might also be wrong with it. | |||

| Bought used 2009 toyotoa corolla (5 speed manual clutch) vehicle in mid 2011. noticed that the gas pedal, break and clutch are oddly very close, and gas pedal seems to stick, which seems to cause error in shifting/ acceleration/ de-acceleration, especially when using in between gears. not sure what that is all about, or whether or not there has been a prior complaint about this or recall, but i think it should be brought to the attention and fixed by toyota for safety reasons. | |||

| The steering is terrible. every time i get onto the highway, i have to hold on to the steering wheel very hard with both hands to feel safe. i am always worried about hitting the car next to. the car swerves constantly, and is very hard to control. i can not believe that a relatively new car such as this can not stay straight on the road. it feels as if it were extremely windy outside making the car shake left and right. i have always trusted toyota and thought that they sold nothing but the best. i have lost the joy and excitement in driving. please correct this dangerous issue. blind spots are also a major safety issue i have found. also, there is an extremely annoying rattle inside the car. it sounds like it is coming from the ceiling, and from the rear windshield. it is noticeable at all speeds. | |||

| My son was driving with my daughter in the passenger seat of our 2009 toyota corolla. started the car; with foot on the brake, changed from p to r, released the hand brake; at that point, the car took off down the driveway, crossed the road and hit the tree on the neighbor's yard and stopped; damage to rear fender and trunk. my daughter noticed that my son had his foot on the brake but the car wouldn't stop till it hit the tree. i had the car taken to toyota dealer to be tested and fixed. toyota ran some tests and informed me that they do not think this was caused by any defect in the car. but they will not provide me with a copy of the report nor can they explain how their test could deny what was witnessed by the person in the car. | |||

| A year ago under rainy weather,driving my toyota corolla s/09 when approaching the highway exit i lost control of the car before turning out to the main way. i crashed with the highway bar and the left side of the car got damage, no airbags came out, however i drive it like that to the dealer where they assist for the whole reparation and deal with the insurance. my deductible was $1000 among the reparation. weeks later they called me to pick up the car, noticing the lights from the board didn't turn on. getting back to garage.then 6 months later the harness was reported as non properly repair when an engine light turns on and i got back to the dealer. they did reparation back with the insurance as part of the accident reparation. they were all sending each other and no one gave any answer about was going on with the car. later, i decide to sell the car by owner or trade for another, noticing that all the mechanics i'd visited including other dealers are telling me that the care is unsafe to drive due to a frame damage that was never reported to me after the entire reparation, and is not in the papers. i did all the recalls suggested by toyota this year, but i'm still driving a car that should be reported as a total lost due to the damage suffered at the accident. adjuster said there was nothing wrong at reparation and that people from the dealer couldn't say the car wasn't properly repaired. i'm still paying for the car, the increment of the insurance, and nobody at toyota cares about the frame damage issue. at the last reparation due to the harness, they didn't gave any work paper saying they get rid of printer paper. things shouldn't be like this when safety is first thing when driving a car. | |||

| On march 8, 2010 i was driving my 2009 toyota corolla, of which i am the first owner. i was going about 35 mph and i pressed the gas pedal to accelerate to about 45 mph. then i released the gas and pressed on the brake pedal but the car did not slow down, but kept going 45. after a few seconds of pressing hard on the brakes, i pulled the handbrake and shifted the car into park. the car slowed down and eventually stopped. i then called a towing company and had the car towed to a dealership. they inspected the car and found nothing wrong. this problem has not occurred since. | |||

| My wife was recently in an accident while driving a 2009 toyota corolla in princeton nj. she mentioned that she stopped at the stop sign and presumably tried to move forward a bit so that she can see the traffice on the main road, to make a right turn and next thing she realized was that she was on middle of the main road hit by a flatbed truck. she is not sure how it happened. the car suffered good damage to the front left side near the tires and based on the autobody, it is going to be a high dollar repair. during the accident: 1) the seatbelt tightened strong enough to brake her left clavicle bone in her shoulder. 2) the air bags did not deploy. this is my biggest concern. due to this accident she received a traffic ticket. this model of the car was part of the recent accelerator pedal recall and i got it fixed march 2010. i cannot stop wondering if that issue, eventhough considered as fixed, had something to do with the car accelerating faster on to the road than expected. my wife thinks she hit the accelerator slowly to move ahead a bit to better see the traffic on the main road. i have dirven her car in the past and did not notice any issues related to this recall before the fix. i am not blaming this on this issue, however, i cant stop wondering if that may have played a role. and my bigger issue is that the air bags did not deploy. the car is in a body shop in nj and i can shar photos if needed. | |||

| Driving north bound on i-90 in lane 2 from the right side, approaching near the north cumberland ave over pass at approximately 50 mph, when it appeared the auto in front was slowing down i applied the brakes and they did not engage or slow the vehicle down. with vehicle 1 rapidly gaining on the auto in front of it, i switched over to lane 1 quickly to avoid striking the vehicle from behind, when the brakes did not stop the vehicle, the speed continued to increase, when it appeared i was going to hit the wall to the right of the safety lane, i cut back into lane 1 and the car, now going at an uncontrollable higher rate of speed, made almost a complete left across all 3 lanes striking vehicle 2 in the 3rd lane on the right rear door, when spinning off of vehicle 2 the left rear of vehicle 1 struck the wall making the vehicle come to a complete stop. | |||

| When using either the air re-circulation button or the air conditioning i sometimes get a sickening smell like anti-freeze. i brought the vechile in to the dealer in september and they said they saw no loose hose or obvious leak. this problem is intermittent in nature and when i had the car there it was not doing it. they said they would not remove the dash unless they could smell the odor. i had a surgery for lung cancer last year and i believe this odor to be harmful to be breathing. | |||

| On 3/18/10 my son was driving our 2009 toyota corolla. he accelerated onto the interstate and drove for nearly a mile. he was using the blue tooth phone that is built in to the car. he hung up from the call and within seconds the cars rpm quickly increased for at least 10 -20 seconds. the vsc, ck engine, and trac lights all came on at the same time. he took his foot off the gas pedal and it felt like it was all the way back, not sticking but the rpm's were racing.- and going about 70 mph. he put the car in neutral- it is a manual and pulled over. the rpm was still racing. he shut the vehicle off. when he turned it back on the rpm was normal but the warning lights stayed on. the car had the recall repairs completed on feb. 19, 2010. he contacted the local toyota dealer and they asked him to drive it in, which he did. they checked his floor mats and there was not an issue with them. they have opened a service repair with toyota corp. the car is at the dealer at this time. this is the first time the car has done this. | |||

| On my 2009 corolla, i have continued to have an issue with slight acceleration and sudden rpm increase while the accelerator is not being applied, and usually when the brake is being engaged. this mainly happens while going downhill and it causes a forward motion jerk in the car that is felt by all passengers. i have had the recall regarding the metal accelerator patch, fixed. i have also taken my car into the dealership since the recall fix to address this problem and i was informed that all toyota cars do 'this' and that it is normal. they did hook my car up for a health diagnostic which showed nothing abnormal. i have driven a large number of cars which include other toyotas, and i have never experienced this phenomena. i have also had multiple third parties in my car and they have shown surprise and concern when the car exhibited this behavior. i do need to say that i have never felt like i have lost control of my car while this occurs. however, based on recent accounts from other people that own toyotas, and corollas specifically, i am not inclined to take a 'wait and see' approach to this matter. this problem happens on an almost daily basis, sometimes multiple instances in one day with 8-10 separate instances being the most counted in a 24 hour period of time. the mechanic that ran the health diagnostics (3/18/10) told me that given the number of computers that 'run my car' there could be a number of things going on that would cause this to happen but that any abnormalities would come up on their computer system, once the tests were run. nothing apparently showed up. approximate incident date below shows the date that this last occurred in my vehicle, but since there is not an option for date range, it is not going to accurately reflect the amount of time this has been going on (which has been almost the whole time i have owned the car, 2 years in july 2010). | |||

| Had recall work completed on my 2009 toyota corolla on march 13th, 2010 regarding accelerator pedal. no problems at all prior to recall work. on march 15th, 2010 the accelerator pedal failed to return to its proper position after it was depressed. i was pulling into the garage and going very slow and braking easily stopped the car. i tapped the pedal quickly and it apparently returned to proper (not depressed / full out) position.the floor mat in the car is aftermarket and does not in any way interfere with the pedal. will contact dealer who performed recall work and have them recheck pedal. please feel free to contact me if you think it necessary. | |||

| My concern is with the brake recall on toyota corollas that was started on august 26th, 2009. first, the recall only applies to 19 states....what about those of us that drive across state lines? or if the car is sold to someone from another state? then it is ok if the brakes fail? we have been waiting since august to hear from them regarding this issue. second, i no longer believe much (if anything) that toyota tells us. therefore, i want you to 1) demand that they recall all toyota corollas with the brake problem, and 2) perform your own investigation to be certain that the problem is as they describe it. thank you for your attention to this matter. *tr | |||

| Tl*the contact owns a 2009 toyota corolla. while driving 15 mph the vehicle rapidly accelrated and crashed into a guard rail. no one was injured. the front passenger side sustained severe damage. the contact was able to drive the vehicle home and then to the dealer. the dealer is waiting for an inspector to diagnose the vehicle prior to making any repairs. the dealer has not informed the contact about any repairs or updates on the vehicle. the failure mileage was 22,212. | |||

| 2009 toyota corolla - gas pedal sticking problem while on the family driveway traveling at about 5 miles per hour, car rapidly accelerated forward after i removed my foot from the gas pedal. pushing the brake down as hard as i could the car continued traveling forward crashing into my daughter's car, then pushing her car through the right side of the garage door & through the house wall completely damaging my daughter's car (totaled) destroying the garage door while smashing down that portion of the house wall. and then further inside colliding into a large dryer & washing finally coming to rest against an inside house wall beam & concrete. my daughter was almost hit as she was on the other side of the wall when the cars crashed through. we've always maintained that it was toyota's fault as it was without question, a case of unintended acceleration--the car rapidly accelerated forward on its own, but toyota insisted it was not the cause of their car. toyota, at my cost and our insurance company, state farm, made all the repairs to the car--toyota refused to take liability for involvement with the cause of the accident. so there we were, who could refute mighty toyota | |||
