On september 26, 2007, toyota filed a defect information report and notified nhtsa that some of its model year (my) 2007 and 2008 lexus e350 and toyota camry vehicles could experience unintended and uncontrolled acceleration due to interference between the optional all weather floor mat offered on those vehicles and the vehicles' accelerator pedal.this decision was influenced by an office of defects investigation (odi) engineering analysis.this recall was designated 07e082.two years later, on october 5, 2009, toyota filed a defect information report and notified nhtsa that a number of its my 2004-2009 lexus and toyota vehicles may also experience unintended and uncontrolled acceleration due to interference between the accelerator pedal and the driver's floor mat.this recall was designated 09v388.several months later, on january 27, 2010, toyota filed an amended, or supplemental, defect information report and expanded the population of vehicles to include additional my 2008-2010 toyota and lexus vehicles.since this expansiontook place in a different calendar year, this recall was designated 10v023.separately on january 21, 2010, toyota filed a defect information report and notified nhtsa that certain toyota vehicles and certain pontiac vibe vehicles contained a safety defect in the accelerator pedal assembly that may cause the accelerator pedal to become harder to depress, slower to return, or in the worse case, mechanically stuck in a partially depressed position.nhtsa designated this recall 10v017.in total, the four recalls cover over 7.6 million toyota and lexus vehicles as well as the pontiac vibe product made by new united motor manufacturing, inc., a venture of toyota and general motors corporation.nhtsa requires additional information from toyota to more fully understand and evaluate, among other things, whether the scope of the recalls identified above (makes, models and model years) is sufficiently broad.the agency is seeking to determine whether toyota viewed the underlying defects too narrowly as interference between the accelerator pedal and the driver

We own two 2005 toyota pruis. we bought the first at sunrise toyota and six months later we bought the second at a toyota dealership in virginia. the former pruis (car #1) had 96,000 miles on it when the lever to change the gears began to slip from the drive or reverse mode into neutral repeatedly. fortunately we were stopped with the engine running when this first occurred. on the latter prius (car # 2), with 64,000 miles, we had not used the car for a few days, went into the car started the engine allowing it to run for few minutes as it was cold outside and attempted to shift. like the former pruis (car #1) the lever kept moving from the drive or reverse position to the neutral position consistently. i went to sunrise toyota with car #1. they repaired it without charge as i had extended warranty insurance on that car. when i spoke with them about car # 2) they said they would need to do a diagnostic before the repair, repair it and then charge me. i returned home to call toyota corporation saying that i bought two pruis' months apart but the same year car, from two different dealerships and am experiencing the same problem with both cars just a few weeks apart. i mentioned my concern that the car might shift into neutral while driven on the highway causing a dangerous situation. i asked if other drivers have reported similar problems and what if any assistance they could give. they stated that they do not have a record of this problem and will not be recalling the cars at this time. i again stressed my safety concerns. they again stated they do not have any immediate plans for recall for this issue. the cost of the repair is close to one thousand dollars. my safety concerns remain as far as driving this car for myself and other drivers who own a pruis. i was told by the company and dealership that my problem is specific but i do not understand how you can buy 2 cars , same make and year at different dealership and have the same issue.

At random, the car does not start. there is nothing different about events leading up to the failure from one day to the next. my neighbor has the same problem, and so did a friend of mine. aaa told me that in the winter the car is particularly prone to having trouble starting.

I had been pulled over on several occations for faulty tail lights. this has been ongoing sence i bought the car. then my children told me of the front head lights going out for no reason. i did not believe them till the went out on me. after taking it to several toyota dealers and said that there is nothing wrong, on 09/10/2009 i filed a complaint with a monica from the nhtsa in dc. i have yet to hear anything to this date and i am afraid of a serious crash when the lights go out without knowing why. i also have a check light that has been on sence before my warranty went out and no one wants to correct the problum. i hate this car, it scares me and there are other issues and i have to date only recieved one recall and that is on the mats.

My 2005 toyota prius has twice accelerated beyond my control. both occasions occurred within the past 2-3 months. the first time, i was accelerating to pass someone. i had the pedal basically to the floor, and when i stopped accelerating, the pedal stuck, and the engine revved. when acceleration continued after i took my foot off the accelerator, i applied the brakes and the acceleration stopped. the second time, i was accelerating rapidly to enter the highway. again, acceleration continued after i took my foot off the gas pedal. i tried the brake, which did not work, so i put my foot under the gas pedal and lifted it up, and the acceleration stopped. i am very aware toyota is having similar complaints, and that floor mats are sometimes blamed; however, at the time of both of these incidents, there were not floormats in the car.

My 2005 toyota prius have left and right hid headlight problems. the passenger side headlight goes out intermittently, then both headlights goes out with no warning. this is an expensive problem, there are major safety concerns linked to the sudden loss of headlights. there should be a saftey recall on all toyota prius headlight assembly. the headlights and the electronics cost more than $1,000 to replace.

Having just started the car and enroute to my destination, i was on a city street following a large landscape truck traveling approximately 20-25mph.. road conditions were dry. although the truck's brake lights were not on, i perceived the truck was gradually slowing. in anticipation of making a stop, i moved my foot from the accelerator to the brake pedal. when the truck's driver applied his brakes, i also applied my brakes intending to come to a gentle stop by lightly pressing the brake pedal. without warning the brake pedal 'softened' and my prius continued to coast with no braking at all. since the truck's size and width obscured sight of any on-coming traffic, i couldn't turn out of my lane and as a result rear- ended the truck. since there was no damage to the truck or injuries, a police report was not filed; however, i immediately called my insurance agent and was authorized to drive to an approved body shop. after the repairs were completed, i scheduled an appointment on march 19th 2010 with my toyota dealer to check my car's braking system. the brake pads/shoes, braking fluid were found to be fine, but no analysis of the computer braking system was discussed. according to the toyota service adviser, the braking failure couldn't be duplicated and their mechanic found nothing mechanical that might have caused the problem. i am dissatisfied with toyota's service adviser's dismissive position regarding my brake's failure. despite their inability to diagnose the problem, the service adviser insists the car is safe to drive, but offers no evidence to support this claim. in the past i've complained to toyota service about the intermittent 'floaty' feeling i experience when depressing the brake in stop and go traffic. no extensive diagnosis of the braking system was ever offered to me, and indeed, the brakes finally failed. since no one at my local toyota dealer is willing to resolve this issue satisfactorily, i find it necessary to file a formal complaint

My front passenger-side tire sidewall blew out on november 24, 2006 when a nail penetrated the tread area. at the time of the incident, i changed to the pony spare. this was accomplished with great difficulty due to a woefully inadequate jack supplied by toyota with my 2005 prius. the jack bent while trying to lift the automobile. lifting the car was attempted three times by slightly repositioning the base of the jack. it was finally necessary to brace the jack with pieces of wood in order to lift the automobile high enough to remove the damaged tire. the pony spare had to be deflated to get it into place in order to apply the lug nuts due to the inability of the jack to lift the car for adequate clearance. luckily i had an electric air pump on board to re-inflate the pony spare. the entire operation took 1 hour 45 minutes. several points should be made. i am not an idiot. i have changed flats previously. the jack was new as supplied with the prius purchased in late 2004; it had never been used. the tire change occurred on an almost completely flat surface. the base of the jack was resting on cement. the weather was good; no ice, snow, wind or rain. my lighting was good. i lifted the prius where indicated. i had blocked the rear tires with bricks prior to attempting to lift the car. the car was not loaded with additional weight. i am very disappointed about the quality of the jack that was supplied with the prius. as a consumer, one would not think of inspecting such basic safety equipment prior to deciding on an automobile. the automobile could have easily slipped from the jack during the tire changing operation. severe injury could occur to the individual(s) or the vehicle itself. my father recently bought a prius at my suggestion prior to this incident. i now fear for his safety knowing how inadequate the jack is that is supplied with this vehicle. *jb
