On multiple occasions, i have experienced issues with the car suddenly accelerating while i'm pressing the brakes. specifically, this appears to occur when braking on uneven surfaces (ie construction areas, pot holes, etc.). this can obviously become a deadly situation if one is trying to stop the vehicle and with this problem run into the car/vehicle ahead. most recently this occurred on the surface streets in low speed, in traffic. it feels like the car lurches ahead while applying the brake. i was told by the service people at toyota that i was making this up. i can recreate it given the right surface.

Today, 1/21/2013 at approximately 245pm while drive back from disney with my family on the florida turnpike(mile point marker 294 nb) at approximately 65-70 mph our 2010 prius suddenly lost power and check hybrid system came on. mind you i was traveling on a major road when the car suddenly kept decreasing in speed and i just turned on to the median and the car rolled to a stop. luckily there was a florida safety patrol behind me who put on his flashing lights until i was safely off the turnpike. car would not restart and had to be towed. car arrived at xxx(dealer) toyota at 502pm and i am awaiting a call back on the problem. this is a safety issue. also, there was no warning before the car failed. thank you. this is what i filed with toyota minus identifying data. *tr

My prius iv, purchased new in 2010, intermittently had a lunging forward problem when going over speed bumps, pot holes etc. i would have to stop it by braking quickly, so i didn't collide with a car ahead. i informed toyota of this problem within the first year. they tested it and said they could find nothing. i mentioned this to them on various occasions when i took the car for its periodic maintenance of 5000 mile intervals. on december 26, 2012 i was stopped waiting to go left when i was rear-ended. i went to pull over to the side of the road to assess the damage. when i accelerated to get to the side of the road, the car took off crazily, at a high rate of speed for about 6-7 seconds, zigzagging uncontrollably on the 2 lane road. if there were cars coming toward me, i would have been in a head on crash. i immediately called toyota service of scranton,pa and asked them to see and assess the car's problem. they made an appointment and concluded.said there is no problem internally, and suggested removing the after market floormat. i then proceeded to show them the same problems many customers are having with the prius , including an article by steve wozniak, the co-founder of apple company, who had acceleration problems with his 2010 prius. i called the main toyota headquarters later, explaining the problem and they too said there is no malfunction , only mentioning the floor mats again.. this is not the case as the car has had acceleration problems from the beginning and to further clarify, i was able to finally stop the car... the mat was no where near the accelerator. i am afraid to drive this for others' safety, my passengers and my own safety. i take care of my cars faithfully. you can view my records. i am also fearful if i trade this car, someone else might get injured or killed. can you please check and advise. *tr

Traveling on parkway when we were approaching a vehicle going south down at approximately 55 we were traveling 72 with cruise control engaged, i tapped the brakes to try and slow and nothing happened i then held the brake pedal down for more than 15 seconds with no success, tried to disengage the cruise by pulling back on the handle on the steering wheel and still it would not disengage, we struck the truck at 72 mph only because we had no where else to go and the vehicle would not disengage cruise. the cruise control light was still illuminated after the vehicle came to rest after impact and the vehicle brakes still did not appear to function, this vehicle was a toyota lease and was told multiple times by toyota that the issues was recalled by toyota and that this vehicle had the recall performed. *tr

The unintended acceleration accident happened on 7/18/2012, ~6:20pm at company's parking lot. i backed my 2010 prius slowly. then i saw a car coming on my way. but before i took any action, this prius suddenly started accelerating, it went wildly, and turned more than 360 degree backward in the parking lot in just a few seconds. since the car parked between a building and a slop, from the front mirror, first i saw the building wall and glasses, then i saw the slope, then i saw a car parked close to my car: no! don?t hit that car! that is the last thing i remember. because of the fast turning of the car and because i was so terribly scared, i lost conscious after that until the prius hit the truck and bounced back and stopped by itself. after a few seconds, i woke up and realized: i am still alive. i got off the car and saw prius passed the two curbs and hit the truck. the two tires on the driver side got flat because they passed the curb very fast. i was so scared that i couldn?t recall of anything for a few days until weekend. why did the car lose control? one may argue that i stepped on the accelerator. this could happen to new drivers, but not to me because i have been driving for so many years and always a good driver. many times i saw a car on my way when i was backing, i always stopped right away. and i was healthy in a normal day in normal mode, alert as usual. why would i step on accelerator when backing? even if i mis-stepped on the accelerator, i can always switch to brake right away. but i could?t do anything about the car on the day. it was out of control completely. after i lost conscious, my hands were off the steering wheel and my foot didn't step on anything, the car didn't slow down but still moved fast and passed two curbs easily. such a manipulation can only be done when the car is in acceleration, and by itself. please investigate it asap! *tr

I first reported this to toyota prior to the initial 2010 recall, the car was less than 1 month old and i have reported it on numerous occasions via the toyota website. on the few occasions i lent the car to friends they have had the same experience. description: when traveling at relatively slow speeds and an unexpected bump comes up and the brakes are engaged early, once going over the bump the car losses brake power for a few seconds and jolts forward. it is very disconcerting b/c in those split seconds if one is not prepared the car hurls forward and could if all odds are against me, the car could kill someone if they are walking in front of the car. i reported it to my dealer, my dealer's inspector went out on test drive with me, we were able to recreate the incident when he was driving as there are a few spots in my neighborhood that it happens every time. he put the computer on the car but it did not read there was a problem. he called the national technical office, who eventually came out, i left the car at the dealership. they recreated the problem and according to the local technician they put a camera in the wheel to film the situation. i was later told by my local technician that it was determined that there was not a problem with the car and that the situation is normal where the tire catches an uneven surface and goes into overdrive. i have had dreams that i would kill someone in this car. noone is allowed to use this car for the same reason. i fear for my life and the life of anyone walking in front of me on a street i do not know. it happens almost every 2 weeks. it is scary! please help! this is the first new car i bought in 25 years and i am unable to get rid of it b/c i had to pay so muh for it. when i inquired what my options were, toyota said none, that there is no problem with the car.

2010 prius 4 dr hatchback the speed control on my prius uses radar to speed up and slow down. if i come up on a car doing 45 mph and i'm at 55, the vehicle slows down. when i turn to the other traffic lane, and the lane is clear the car accelerates rapidly. on a number of occasions i have braked to disengage the cruise control, i fell like i don't have control of the car. the fix: adjust the computer so speed acceleration is slower. i think it is a crash hazard.

I have a 2010 toyota prius that has the problem with the brakes sometimes dis-engaging when the car goes over uneven or slippery surfaces. toyota was unable to fix this problem after i brought it in for the recall. the problem remains so i am stuck driving an unsafe car.

After taking my 2010 prius in for the recall fix on april 1, 2010, the vehicle continued to exhibit safety defects. i reproted this to the dealer who reproted it to corporate and arranged for a field tech to analyze the vehicle on april 13th. they said we would hear from toyota with in two weeks i never heard back from the dealer so i called the dealer last week. dealer had not heard back. i filed under the lemon law. then dealer informed me yesterday 5/17 that the car was healthy and there is nothing more they can do. my car experienced the same brake failure this morning, turning into a parking lot.

While driving on i-430 in west little rock yesterday, i had the cruise control set on 65 mph. as i approached slower traffic ahead, i slowed the car to 60mph using the brakes. i assumed that the cruise control on my car had automatically disengaged at this point and i let off the brakes. the cruise control then caused the car to accelerate back up to 65mph as it never disengaged by using the brakes. this was especially dangerous since it happened near the crest of a hill and caused my vehicle to no longer be at a safe following distance behind the slower car in front of me.

Toyota 2010 prius, for 5 months it has been perfectly good. bumps or uneven roads, no problem, got the prius computer update 2-33 months ago. april 30 - driving on road with rough surface for repaving and with sewer covers stickying above surface, and no problem for 2 miles then hit a repatched hole and the car jerked ahead quickly but my braking slowed it down immediately. the entire prcoess took 1 second. luckily i had good reflexes. scary but the brake worked well. since that incidenct - 1 day, car is fine.

I have a new 2010 prius with less than 1k miles. on 4-9-10 while pulling into a parking spot i experienced a simultaneous loss of braking combined with unintended surge of acceleration. my prius jumped the curb that was perpendicular to the parking slot and stopped as it slammed into a brick building about 8 feet beyond the curb. i utilized my safety connect button to record the time of the accident and had the vehicle towed to the dealer. i contacted toyota customer experience center and now have a case #. i was told that someone would contact me within 2 business days. i am not at all comforted by this very scary incident. i would just like to have my 2005 prius back as i never had any problems with it. i am seeing that my problem is not unique based on many similar problems on this nhtsa complaint site.
04/07/201014500
2010 prius with about 14,500 miles driving on smooth, wet, paved road 20 miles an hour on a curve. neither foot was not on a pedal - car was coasting for several seconds as expected, slowly decelerating. in the middle of the curve, with both feet still not on either gas or brake, i felt and heard a notable surge of hard acceleration despite both feet being off the gas and brake. my wife in the passenger seat also noticed the surge. i immediately braked hard. the car slowed safely, and the unrequested acceleration seemed to stop as soon as i engaged the brake pedal. nothing was touching the accelerator before the surge, during the surge, or when the surge ended as i braked - not a floor mat, not a stray object, not my foot. this is the first time we have experienced this exact pattern of symptoms. in the past, before the brake software recall was downloaded to our car, we had many episodes of temporary loss of braking power on bumpy roads. at least one of those prior episodes had unexplained acceleration accompany the temporary braking failure on a bumpy road. today's incident was very different - i was not braking, and the road was not bumpy. note that the 2010 prius is not on the recall lists for the accelerator modifications, and that a sticky accelerator would not explain this behavior.

Tl*the contact owns a 2010 toyota prius. the contact stated that on april 8, 2010 while driving at 1 mph, the vehicle suddenly surged forward while she was making a left turn. she depressed the brake pedal, the vehicle skidded about four feet and came to a stop. the front end of the vehicle was damaged; however, the contact was able to drive the vehicle home. she called the manufacturer and was advised to take the vehicle to an authorized dealer for repairs. the vehicle had previously been repaired at the dealership for recall 10v039000 (service brakes, air, antilock control unit/module) on march 11, 2010. the contact had an appointment scheduled with the dealer when the complaint was filed. the failure mileage was approximately 2,700. updated 05/26/10 *bf

Although i took my vehicle in for the recall (2010 prius) last week, the vehicle repeated the loss of brake/surge issue this morning. i also reported to my toyota dealer last week about abnormal, sudden braking. when applying normal pressure to the brakes, on several ocassions the brakes have locked violently, sending me and my passengers against our seat belts. toyota claimed that the recall may make that better. it has not. thirdly, i reported last week to toyota that the car has on ocassion shaken violently and made a loud clanking noise (like a washing machine off balance) upon start up, causing me to jump out f the car for fear of it blowing up. they said they had never heard of this. my co-worker, a fellow 2010 prius owner, reported the same issue.

When braking, all of a sudden the car lurches for a second or so, as if on ice. this happened 3 times in different circumstances, once not related to a pothole. toyota dealer in avon ct applied the correction to the software, and the next week (last week) the same thing happened again, when i hit a wide, but not deep pothole while braking, just before stopping at the end of a highway exit ramp. in this situation, it was fortunate that no car was in front of me at the light. additionally i had a problem with sudden acceleration a couple times when driving at slow speed. *tr

My 2010 prius has had these problems, which are not being addressed by toyota. 1)gas pedal stopped working at all on two occasions going 20-30 miles an hour. had to pull over, turn car off, restart it. then it worked. hasn't happened again. 2)cruise control is very difficult to stop with brake. this is consistent. i have stopped using the cruise control because it has almost caused me to rear end another vehicle on several occasions. *tr

2010 toyota prius - i was driving my 2010 toyota prius for a short period as a company car. i noticed that when the battery got low while in park the engine would kick in to recharge the battery. the engine would cause the car to slightly jerk forward or back which would be expected by the force of the engine thrust. what was strange is that when i was crossing the street after coming out of an oil change, my foot was on the brake waiting for traffic to clear only to have the engine kick in and slightly jerk the car forward. it surprised me! like i said my foot was on the brake and kept the car from moving. i visited the toyota dealership to discuss and emailed toyota to make them aware of it. after hearing more news about toyota i felt i needed to share this information. i no longer have the car because i did not feel safe, with all of the problems with toyota, so i turned it back in to my fleet who manages the company cars. i have also noticed a winding sound in the steering wheel when it is turning. i cannot recall the exact date of the incident so i have mentioned feb 19 2010 as the approximate date. if you need an exact date please contact me since i can go to the site where i got my oil change and look up my records to provide an exact date. *tr

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). i left a message on your voice mail. i have a 2010 prius. i called my dealership this am with concern about the incident last night with the gas pedal. the gentleman that spoke to me was very arrogant stating i don't know what everyone is so worried about, all he had to do was put it in neutral. i asked him to stay on the phone with me while i did a test run in my car. i got in the car (with him on the phone) started driving and put my foot on the brake and pushed the joy stick to neutral, nothing happened, the car remained in drive. i proceeded to do this 13 times with the dealership on the phone, it only engaged in neutral 2 times out of the 13. i was getting upset and voicing my concern. i asked if i could bring it in and have it checked out. the dealership said to me sure you can bring it in but i don't know what i can do about it. i was furious, i called the local channel 3 and they came out and did a story on it. we drove the car around and i put it in neutral probably at least 30-50 times and it did not engage 90% of the time. i tried calling toyota headquarters and they are not taking any calls at this time, this was a quote and animated, you cannot talk to a real person. i don't want the car, i am afraid to drive it.  I have owned 4 toyota prius hybrid vehicles (2005, 2007, 2008, 2010). i experienced a slight feeling of acceleration sometimes when depressing the gas pedal in the 07 and 08 models. i also felt a slight surge sometimes when braking. when i asked the toyota mechanic about this i was told that stored energy from the hybrid system was being expelled. i never thought it might be a safety issue because of what he said. now i drive the 2010 prius, had the brake recall done last week and a couple days later, when driving over 3 slight bumps when entering a parking lot, i felt that same slight acceleration. please continue demanding toyota fix this dangerous problem. please talk to the us congress about investigating these cars before there are more accidents. i think the 2010 prius also has issues with acceleration as well as braking because i have experienced what i described in the 07, 08, 10 models. *tr

On friday 2/26 at ~ 1:15pm, i was driving my 2010 prius. it was raining hard outside. as i put on brakes, the car seemed to accelerate / did not brake and drove into a parking lot curb. damage was done to the front end of the car. there have been multiple occasions during which my husband and i have separately noticed this same type of acceleration / failure to brake - particularly when driving in the rain, down a hill, or over an uneven surface (like a pothole). none of these other occasions have resulted in any injury or damage. following the 2/26/2010 incident, i contacted toyota that same day. i was told that a customer relations manager would call me back by tuesday 3/2. did not hear back. on wednesday 3/3 i called to follow up. after being on hold for 1 hour, i gave up. sent an e-mail to customer service advising of the situation. still did not hear back. on saturday 3/6 i called again. was again on hold x 1 hour and told customer service representative of what happened - they apologized and said they did not have my contact information. was told i would get a call back by 3/9. did finally speak with an agent on 3/8 who now tells me that i will get a call within 10 days. at that time, i will be offered an inspection appointment within the following 30 days. and, within 30 days after the appointment i will receive written notification of the outcome of the inspection. i feel unsafe driving my car. i would hope for a faster resolution to this situation. i would like for the abs fix for which the 2010 prius is being recalled to be completed as soon as possible. and, i would like for the damage to my car to be repaired. *tr

When backing up, the car will, on occasion, automatically accelerate excessively. this causes the driver to need to step aggressively on the brake in order to control the car. this cycle of race and brake continues until our need to reverse is complete. once we are in drive there is no further problem. this has occurred about six times since we purchased the car in late july. it has most often occurred when it is the initial drive of the day, but the most recent time the car had already been driven 100 miles and had been idling for several minutes. we contacted the dealership from which we bought the car. they have not heard of the issue. we also took it into our local dealership. they were, of course, not able to replicate the problem. no resolution or correction has occurred. *tr

2010 toyota prius cruise control caused unintended acceleration when re-engaged. after disengaging cruise control set to 65 and coasting at 50 for a while when the cruise control was re-engaged the vehicle resumed in excess of 70 mph before i disabled cruise control. date of incident is approximate. i didn't think much of the failure at the time other than that the cruise control was behaving oddly (i have avoided cruise control on this car since). in light of the current investigation i thought i would submit a report. *tr

We bought a 2010 toyota prius ii in 7/2009. we have on multiple occasions experienced a brief acceleration of the car when our foot is applying the brake pedal to try and slow down. most of these occasions have happened when going over bumps and often when turning a corner. we did have the software upgrade that was recommended by the recall just 2 weeks ago. still, my wife experienced the same problem again when coming home in the car a few days ago. it has happened in total about 5 times since we bought the car in 7/09 and have driven about 10,000 miles. on one occasion last year i almost lost control of the car going around a curve because of the acceleration. i don't think this is simply a brake issue, the car actually seems to accelerate briefly. *tr

My 2010 prius hybrid accelerates from electric to fuel mode on its own. i have taken it to toyota dealership 2 times for problem. toyota servicemen states it will occasionally do that depending on the mode the vehicle is in. i find it to be very dangerous as i do not have control when it will happens. servicemen also said that is why there is an alarm beeping to let driver know it is backing up. that does not make sense the alrm is not going to control the mode the vehicle is in. it is a safety issue several times i have almost hit other vehicles or pedestrians when backing up. i now try not to use reverse to avoid a possible accident. please let me know if other vehicles have similar problems. *tr

I have a 2010 prius. occasionally when i go over a bump (pothole, train track, rough road) my car feels like it jolts forward for a few seconds. this happens when i am not hitting the brakes so i don't think it is covered by the anti-lock braking recall. it is difficult to replicate this and i haven't reported it to the dealer because of this, but it happens about 1-2/week. it could be a problem in a traffic situation where cars are following closely. *tr

This problem has existed since the vehicle was purchased. cruise control either does not function at all or fails to function correctly. sometimes the cruise control will not engage. sometimes the cruise control will engage properly, but after applying the brakes (and disengaging the cruise control) the cruise control cannot be reengaged. two operations will cause the cruise control to begin functioning properly again: 1) turn the vehicle off; 2) put the shift lever into the neutral position, then back into drive. returned vehicle to dealer three times for repair. they did not fix the malfunction during any of the three repair visits. their final response was to claim that the vehicle was functioning as designed. *tr

2010 toyota prius, purchased nov. 2009. using cruise control, the car accelerated quickly on it's own when i attempted to change speed by using the cruise control lever on the steering wheel. happened twice, then i stopped experimenting for reasons of safety. the problem is identical to the one described by steve wosniak in public two weeks ago--one that got a lot of press. acceleration stopped when brake pedal was tapped or cruise control was turned off. *tr

I have experienced two problems with my 2010 prius v that i purchased last summer. first, on approximately 6-8 occasions, my car has not stopped immediately when i applied the brakes. this occurred 3-4 times when i approached a stop sign on a road between my home and church. the surface of the road approaching the stop sign had been scraped and roughened to get ready for re-paving. as i approached and applied the brakes, my car surged forward for about a second, but i was able to stop. this happened 3-4 times in other locations, as well. it is an incredibly strange and helpless sensation. this problem was probably noted between late august 2009 and last occurred about three weeks ago. even though i was forced to put an exact date in the field below, i have no idea now when the exact dates were in which this braking issue occurred. when i brought my car to the dealer for its first oil change, i described what had happened but was told this had nothing to do with the other problems that had been identified in the media as to other cars. the person at the service desk just kind of ignored my comments and was not interested in hearing about the braking issue further. the second problem i have experienced is that when using the cruise control accelerate function the car just continued accelerating even though i was no longer turning the cruise function lever. this stopped when i applied my brakes. it did cause me to stop using the cruise control during that trip though. the cruise control issue probably occurred last august in i-5. *tr

To the nhtsa: i am an owner of a 2010 toyota prius that i purchased in june 2009. since owning the vehicle, i have had about a half-dozen to a dozen occurrences of the same problem. at low speeds, when the rear wheel hits a bump, for a split-second the car feels like there is a burst of acceleration and is out of control. this lasts only a split-second. i saw another consumer in a news article about the prius brake issue describe it the exact same way. i actually mentioned this to my dealer (bernardi toyota, framingham, ma) when i brought the car in for the 5,000 mile service a month or so ago. the service dept told me that the behavior is normal for the hybrid vehicles, and known by toyota -- no fix or adjustment recommended. this seemed like an odd response, but because they told me there was no safety issue, i left it at that. i am providing my experience to aid the nhtsa apply pressure on toyota to fix this problem in the prius. *tr

The brakes on my 2010 toyota prius at times do not engage immediately. it may be necessary at those times to depress the brake pedal by 1/3rd before braking begins. there is a similar delay when braking is used to turn off cruise control. neither of these have caused an accident, but in both cases there is some risk.

Soon after i got my 2010 prius in august, i experienced a braking problem. this has happened about 8 more times so far. while braking as i slowly approach a stop sign or light, if i simultaneously go over a bump or break in the road, the car will lurch forward a couple of yards requiring me to push harder on the brake which then stops the car. this problem has also happened 2 times in the last week while driving slowly and then braking when i encounter ice on the road. luckily, no cars have been directly in front of me when this has happened. i have not reported this to toyota because i have not yet serviced my car. *tw

Prius purchased nov 2009: at least incidents of car lurching forward significantly and momentary sense of loss of control when braking on uneven surface. occured in dec 09,jan 10, and feb 10. had a pedestrian been crossing illegally, the person could've been hit bec i could not prevent or control that lurching. this is a dangerous situation. i feel i cannot drive my car safely. i need my car for work. i phoned my toyota dealer who said to bring it in for evaluation, but they sound tentative. i want a solution and don't want to be making numerous trips from my rural town to the city dealer for guesses. *cn

Bought a 2010 prius in october 2009. it currently has 3500 miles on it. at least three times the car felt as if it slipped on ice when applying the brakes (weather conditions were perfect - no ice, snow or rain). their is difficulty in clearing fog from the windows and one time i had trouble setting the cruise control. *tr

While driving my wife's 2010 toyota prius from colorado springs to alamosa we experienced the following anomaly. we were on the freeway (i-25) driving south on level terrain with the cruise control set at ~70mph. i noticed a significant increase in the engine rpm and could see the engine display for the engine in the pwr mode. i disengaged the cruise control and waited a short period of time and reengaged the cruise control. a short time later (~15 minutes) the rpm increase occurred again and i once again disengaged the cruise control. i did not use the cruise control again on the trip. my wife has used the cruise control rarely since her use does not include freeway driving. *tr

I own a 2010 prius purchased around sept. 2009. a few weeks after we got the vehicle, my wife and i independently both experienced a sudden acceleration when the car went over a bump. this has occurred about a total of 4 times. my foot was not on the accelerator at the time this occurred. stepping on the brake did slow the vehicle down. the last time i experienced this was 2-3 weeks ago. i did ask the dealer shortly after the initial incident if he had heard of this problem and he said no. i have not since brought the car back to the dealer. we have noticed this only when the car goes over a bump.*tr

The vehicle is a very new prius version 3. there is no problem with the floor pads. there does not seem to be a problem at higher speeds. the problem is short, unexpected bursts of acceleration at lower speeds, especially as the car is slowing down, with or without braking. i believe it occurs especially when the engine shifts from hybrid to all electric. for example, on a curving exit ramp off a road, as the car slows, and as braking and acceleration are released, and the car shifts into propelling itself on electric, there is a burst of acceleration at some time in this maneuver. this has happened several times since purchasing the car a few weeks ago. i spoke to the service manager at he dealership last week. he stated he knew nothing about this, and had heard northing from toyota. he offered to look at the car if i brought it in. subsequently the prius problem became news.*tr

My husband and i bought a 2010 toyota prius in november 2009. we both have noticed a sort of jerky feeling while braking over a small bump or pothole but we didn't think much of it until last night when i was driving home with my children. i was driving down a residential area at about 30 miles/hr. and was slowing down to stop at a red light. while i was braking i hit a medium sized pot hole. my car just leapt forward about 10 feet. i had my foot on the brake firmly the entire time but the car would not stop. finally my car came to a stop. i was very shaken by this incident. if there was a car in front of me i would have totally rearended them. i came home and immediately called the toyota dealership. i left a message with the service department. my call was returned by the manager this morning. she said that she had not heard anything from toyota about any brake issues and then she asked me whether i was speeding! she did not seem to believe me and basically said that there was nothing that they could do.*tr

I bought at 2010 prius on 12/26/09 from the very beginning intermittently when i go to stop the car won't stop (my chest tighten) its as if the back of the car is being pushed forward even though you have your foot on the brake. you a get a hesitation and then the car stops. my husband said it was the traction control i was not use to it.but the traction control light does not come on. its is getting harder and harder to stop. now even the passengers hear and feel the problem. yet when i call toyota to bring the car in they say there is no recall. *tr

I experience a few times week since last summer when i got my 2010 prius the 1 second brake failure that has been reported for 2010 prius vehicles. as an owner of such vehicle, the pothole on my usual freeway on ramp and the speed bump in my work's parking garage both cause a quick acceleration feeling for about 1/2 second if i'm applying the brakes at the moment of passing over the pothole or speed bump. that 'feeling' may be not an acceleration but a momentary brake failure. the failure is only about 1/2 second and i'm used to it now, though obviously it is an unsafe situation. if i come across such events while, say, braking hard when i see a pedestrian in the parking lot, i could fail to avoid hitting the person. *tr
01/11/201060081
The cruise control on my 2010 toyota prius does not always cancel while braking. this has resulted in unintended acceleration after braking while the cruise control has been set. a driver expects that the cruise control will automatically cancel while applying the brakes but this does not happen under light braking. this is even more pronounced while driving up a steep hill. on january 11th, 2010, i was in a situation where i actually applied the brakes to reduce my speed while traveling up a steep hill and felt the car fighting against me to maintain a steady speed. after i had slowed my prius to match the speed of the car in front of me, the cruise control unexpectedly caused the car to accelerate again, placing me at a less than safe distance to the car in front of me as we crested the hill. *tr

When the road surface is slippery and/or uneven (i.e, pothole is beginning to form), my 2010 toyota prius has surged or accelerated suddenly at low speeds under 30 mph, for no apparent reason other than coming into contact with the bumpy/slick road surface. this sudden acceleration responds to braking and has occurred approximately 5-8 times, with more frequency since the rainy weather began. this is frightening for a few brief seconds, especially in heavy traffic. as a consequence, i try to avoid uneven road surfaces but in heavy rain conditions when the road is covered with water, pot holes and brakes in the blacktop are not as easily visible and once i swerved to miss it by moving into the next lane a little bit and a big truck was merging into the same lane at the same time and blew his horn so hard it scared me even more so that i swerved back into my lane, nearly causing an accident. i plan to contact my dealer today about this acceleration defect. *tr
02/04/201032001
I've also experienced braking issues with the prius. this usually happens going over potholes, rough road, or railroad tracks when braking at certain speeds while applying the brakes at moderate force. it momentarily feels like the car is accelerating - it's quite disconcerting. i've also noticed variability in braking distance even on smooth dry pavement where i've had to step harder on the brakes because the car wasn't stopping as expected. *tr

I have noticed issue with braking. i remember it had rained the previous night and the morning it was freezing. i was driving on rt. 76 to drop my son off to his work. on small stretch of rt. 76 has the 'cement patch' - those you typically see on a over pass. fearing icing, i hit the brake only to feel it not responding. in fact, i felt the car speeding up. the patch was just about 10-15 ft wide; the moment we were over it, i felt the brakes respond. *tr

The car, a 2010 prius, accelerates forward when going over a bump in the road or a pothole, as the brake is applied. the problem occurs at an unpredictable frequency. the consequences are that i lose control of the car's speed. i have reported this problem to my dealership several times since purchasing the prius and they have found no problem, stating there is nothing to fix. i have been very concerned about the problem, even before the recent events in the news about toyota. had i known about this site, i would have registered the complaint earlier. *tr

Problem is onset of acceleration when brakes applied in 2010 prius 4, purchased at antwerpen toyota, clarksville, md in august 2010. problem has been detected 2 times, without accident, but with significant increase in anxiety. both incidents were approaching a stop sign, and seemed to be related to change in acceleration due to rapid braking. first incident in september 2009 was considered a 'driver issue' since i had owned the prius only 1 month. however, second incident in november 2009 was clearly not a driver issue, and was initiated the same way--stopping at a stop sign after driving at highway speeds for some time. neither incident involved a traffic accident. *tr

I have a 2010 toyota prius. sometimes, particularly when i'm driving over bumps, applying the brake actually causes the vehicle to nudge forward instead of slowing down. once i have cleared the bumps, the brakes then take effect. the problem is that the car may not actually slow down for an extra 10 to 20 feet. there was one incident where this happened near a crosswalk where people were crossing the road. the car stopped in time, but this could have easily turned tragic. toyota has said nothing about this and don't think there is anything wrong with the car. *tr

I purchased a brand new 2010 toyota prius v on september 24, 2009. it performed beautifully, and was a real pleasure to drive. however, a month or so later, with the car in reverse, i started backing out of a parking place and immediately noticed an unusually intense revving of the engine. startled, i immediately pressed on the foot brake, releasing it in little steps until the car was inched out of the parking place. i then shifted the lever into drive and proceeded on my way quite normally without any further problem whatsoever. in the ensuing months, this strange phenomenon has only repeated itself two more times out of hundreds of backouts from parking slots. there has been no other circumstance in which this severe revving has re-occurred. in the aforementioned three cases, i had no recollection whatsoever of pressing the foot throttle, and therefore have presumed that the problem is in the electronics or software, rather than in the floor throttle mechanics. in every other respect so far, my 2010 toyota prius v has performed perfectly. *tr

Toyota 2010 prius - problem with car accelerating when i brake on bumpy surface. has occurred repeatedly as on my drive to work i drive over a potholed section of road and need to brake to slow down for a right hand turn -if i go very slowly and do not brake on the bumpy part it does not occur - when i drive at a normal speed and brake for the turn it does occur - i feel a major acceleration that lasts for only a second or two. *tr

My 2010 prius accelerates when it hits a pot hole while slowing down. this happens more when there is snow or ice on the road. in icy conditions i am slowing down and not pressing on the brake, but if it hits a pot hole -- a momentary loss of control is experience. it seems like the electric brake switches off and hydraulic brakes kicks in because it brakes harder once back. *tr

I own a 2010 toyota prius that i purchased in the fall of 2009. on several occasions i have depressed my brake pedal to either slow down or stop but , instead, the vehicle briefly accelerates and gives a feeling of skipping over the braking action. the vehicle then quickly corrects before stopping or slowing down. this has happened on more than one occasion on very specific types of terrain that i can describe as bumpy or uneven. i placed a call today with my toyota dealership in which i explained the above narrative to them. they responded with ignorance to the situation and stated that they will wait to hear from toyota on the matter. *tr

I purchased a new 2010 toyota prius in september 2009 from darcars toyota in frederick md. i have experienced (2) instances of unintended acceleration during the time since i purchased the vehicle. i have informed darcars toyota and toyota corporation. darcars ran a health test on february 4, 2009 on my vehicle and the test indicated everything on the vehicle was operating normally. darcars then contacted their toyota california (tac) and related my problem to them. the response from toyota was that my episodes of unintended acceleration was just the abs system engaging normally. this is after the press release from toyota corporation on the morning of 02/04/10 acknowledging a problem existing with the 2010 prius but claiming to have already fixed the problem on all new 2010 prius automobiles sold since january 2010. my two questions are 1) if toyota discovered a problem with the 2010 prius that they supposedly repaired on all 2010 prius vehicles sold since january, why has toyota not contacted me about what is an obvious safety issue? i have owned and been driving my 2010 prius since september '09. 2) what is the specific repair that was supposedly performed on all 2010 prius automobiles since january 1, 2010? why did my toyota service manager have no knowledge of such a repair? was there a safety bulletin issued by toyota? why has toyota not already agreed to repair my 2010 prius (sold in september '09) with the same repair allegedly already performed on 2010 prius automobiles sold after january 1, 2010? *tr

I have experienced a sudden acceleration type problem when driving over rough pavement and potholes, etc. the acceleration is for a split second and i suspect it may be related to the lack of traction from the tires. it does not appear to have anything to do with loose floor mats or a sticking pedal. no repairs have been made. dealer said they never heard of the problem when i went in last week. i was offered to have it brought into service depart. it does not happen on command so i am going to wait for nhtsa investigation. *tr

I have a 2010 prius. on at least three occasions, in the last six months, the following has occurred. when i am traveling and i apply brake pressure the vehicle begins to accelerate. no matter how hard i press on the brake pedal it does not slow down or stop the vehicle. it actually begins to speeds up while my foot is pressing down on the brake pedal. the acceleration has only lasted approximately 5-6 seconds. however, it is very frightening when you are traveling at a high rate of speed and trying to slow down especially off a freeway off ramp. the last thing you want to do at that time is accelerate even if it is momentarily. this has occurred in various places. it has happened while i am getting off of the freeway and on city streets. there was nothing i did in particular that corrected the failure. the prius just stopped accelerating on it's own. *tr

I own a 2010 toyota prius..purchased in august 2009...currently going for 15k miles on the odometer. i want to report issues with sudden acceleration even when i am stepping on the brake. i noticed every time i pass thru uneven road, for example potholes, icy roads, snow. the most common issue i have is as i am going down the road and car hits a pothole or manhole (those with metal covers) the car will suddenly accelerate, although i am stepping on the brake. sometimes i am afraid i will hit the car in front of me, especially when im in traffic. even going at 5-15 mph, the car will accelerate when it hits uneven road like pot holes or icy roads. this has happen quite a few times since i purchased the vehicle. just yesterday, we had about 1-2 inches of snow. i was driving slow and when making a left turn, the car hit some uneven road and snow and accelerated when i was stepping on the brake to make the turn. the car went up the sidewalk and the bumper cracked as it hit the concrete edge that separates the road and the sidewalk. no one was hurt and no property damage was done. the car is working fine, but this sudden acceleration issue is a major concern, especially now that i read and hear in the news that 2010 toyota prius are being reported with complaints of sudden acceleration. i thought my issue was an isolated case. please take this complaint into account. i will be going to the dealership this weekend for the 15k scheduled maintenance and will report the issue to them. *tr

I own a 2010 prius and took the car into the local toyota dealer 2 days ago for the initial 5,000 mile check up to discuss a couple issues i have found with the car. i have experienced on 3 occasions a feeling of brake failure. this has occurred when i am driving over rough road. while the brake is being applied if i hit bumps, the brake pedal drops and i lose the brakes. i have immediately let up on the brake and then reapplied pressure to the brake pedal to get braking back. the dealer tried to achieve the same problem but was unable to replicate it. he said it was just the way the pedal must feel to me. our daughters both have 2006 prius' which i have driven and never experienced this problem with their car brakes. the second problem is with cruise control. again, i have driven a 2006 prius and used cruise control and not experienced the following in the 06 model that occurs in our 2010 model. the car started to accelerate in cruise mode. we have also found it takes a lot of pressure on the brake pedal to take it out of cruise control. the car jerks when tapping the brake pedal lightly to take off cruise control. the dealer again took it out for a test drive and said this is the way the prius feels. i know driving the 2006 model it was not the way the prius feels when you take it out of cruise control. *tr

Since purchasing my 2010 prius in august, i have experienced multiple episodes of car feeling as if it were suddenly accelerating when going over bumps, potholes or other irregularities in the road. i believe when this happens i often already have my foot on the brake, but i find myself having to slam the brake on harder to prevent what is at least a strong sensation of the car taking off. feels just like when riding a horse and it is about to bolt! went to dealer in september or october, and they completely blew me off, said nothing is wrong, no other reports of this happening (clearly a lie it now appears). *tr

I purchased my 2010 toyota prius in december 2010. twice in the last two weeks my car has unexpectedly lurched forward as i went over a speed bump at a relatively low speed. since it was the same speed bump both times, i reason that it must have something to do with the height of the bump and/or my angle of approach. i was able to regain control of the vehicle both times. i am reporting this because i have read the news articles about others having similar problems with 2010 prius' and thought that you would want to know. i have not taken any action because i wasn't sure the problem was with the vehicle or the road surface. *tr

I own a 2010 prius, and have experienced an acceleration issue on about 3-4 occasions since purchasing the vehicle in august of 2009. the issue i had was perfectly described in a recent on-line article from money.cnn.com on feb 3. here is the quote - the complaints received via our dealers center around when drivers are on a bumpy road or frozen surface, a toyota motor corp. spokesman in japan, said. the driver steps on the brake and they do not get as full of a braking feel as expected. this is exactly what i've experienced, and it also seems to possibly be related to the shift from gas to electric which occurs when slowing down. after braking, there is a sudden, brief surge of acceleration. i have not brought this into the dealer, but plan to soon. *tr

When driving my 2010 toyota prius the car has a tendency to accelerate forward as i am hitting the brakes. i have noticed this is usually around potholes or any other bumps in the road. it happens pretty regularly and it scares the pants off me; to say the least. i have found no response from toyota concerning fixing this problem and am worried that when something bad happens i'll be held responsible for their mistake. *tr

Toyota prius 2010, sudden surge of power, when slowing or braking to come to a stop. extremely dangerous in traffic or when parking. have reported to toyota, who claimed no knowledge of prius's having this default. another said this was a common function of the hybrids. recent service dept. claimed checked but found no evidence. this problem happens intermittently. because we know of this problem, are extra cautious. *tr

Sudden surge when hitting a bump at medium speeds. my prius is now six months old with about 6,000 miles on it and i experience a surge in acceleration when i hit a bump at about 20 mph. i used to be an auto mechanic (20 years ago), so i may be a little more attuned to narrowing the problem than most people. i have noticed that when this surge happens i am lightly on the brakes (totally off the accelerator). this seems to particularly happen when the bump (like a pothole in the road) is under the right front wheel. even more frustrating is that this does not happen every time nor on every bump. i can tell you the floor mat has nothing to do with it and i do not think the outside temperature has anything to do with it either. my shadetreemechanic's diagnosis is that this is a software glitch that gets activated when the braking solenoid is bumped. *tr

2010 toyota prius seems to accelerate when i apply brakes to slow down and car goes into shallow pothole. this event is repeatable and happens every time i slow down at a particular stop sign with a pothole in front of it. fortunately there has never been a car in front of me and i now know to avoid this spot. car behaves normally once it has cleared the pothole. this occurs at slow speeds ( 20mph down to 0 ) has not happened anywhere else, but happens everytime at this location. *tr

I have been driving my 2010 prius for almost 6 months now and have experienced the car jerking forward and for a few seconds speeding up as if the brake doesn't work. this happens specifically if a pothole or bump in the road is hit and i'm braking. mostly when slowing down by hitting the brake. i actually noticed this almost immediately when i bough the car but since i've been reading up a lot about the 2010 prius not in the toyota recall list, i thought it is important to report it and get it fixed. one experienced the strangest feeling when this happens. almost as if the break pedal is hit and the car jerks forward as if the pedal is stuck and the car body moves forward. *tr

Vehicle surges forward when braking over road surface that is not smooth. symptom makes safely judging stopping distance very difficult, and in our opinion, increases likelihood of an accident. toyota dealer claimed they could not replicate issue and that vehicle's computer did not report/record any problems. we can replicate issue over same bump everyday. *tr

2010 toyota prius- car tends to accelerate after hitting some potholes or bumps in the road when the brake is depressed. the first couple of times, i came very close to rear-ending the car in front of me because the bump or pothole was in the road at a traffic light and i was attempting to stop. i have been able to repeat incident but not all of the time (may depend on how hard the brake is depressed or how fast the car is going at the time). i noticed this shortly after purchasing and receiving the car on 24 oct. 2009. mentioned to toyota service staff at a new car orientation program, but was told that they had not heard of this issue... and perhaps the bumps in the road were causing me to not apply even pressure on the brake. i have adjusted my driving route as to not to go over the pothole which causes the most problems (or try to be vigilant about situations which may cause lurching) but was concerned when i saw an article reporting that other people are experiencing similar issues (http://www.freep.com/article/20100203/business01/100203028/1318/2010-prius-owners-complain-of-faulty-brakes-lurching-over-bumps). *tr

I own a 2010 toyota prius. at least 10 times, when passing over a bump or pothole in the road, the car accelerates without my applying any pressure to the gas pedal. that is, it accelerates without warning sometimes when i pass over a bump or pothole. then, when i try to slow it down from this unwanted acceleration, the brakes do not seem to function properly. that is, the brakes do not seem to properly and instantly catch to slow the car. rather, there is a pulsating sensation for an estimated 2-5 seconds until the brakes finally and completely catch to slow the car from the unwanted and unintended acceleration. i noticed this shortly after buying the car on august 11, 2009. further, i have never experienced this phenomenon with any other automobile that i have driven in the last 30 years. it is not some phenomenon or problem that has developed over time. rather, it was a phenomenon that occurred when the car was almost completely new with far less than 1,000 miles on the odometer. i am making this complaint after reading in an internet news article that others are experiencing similar problems with the 2010 toyota prius as well as the other recalled toyota automobiles. i believe this is a potentially dangerous problem, and swift u.s. government action is both warranted and needed for public safety. *tr

I noticed that the car lurches forward whenever driven on a manhole, or a rough patch on road, or a speed hump despite the braking. though i regain control within seconds, the moment of lurch is scary and makes me feel unsafe in other traffic situations. this happens at almost all speeds. i guess from now onwards i will maintain enough gap between this car and the forward one as i seem to be not able to trust this car any further. perhaps i will never recommend this car or any toyota to anyone in future. *cn

2010 prius. this has happened about 10 times now. sometimes when i brake, i experience a sudden acceleration. it ranges from slight to a lurch. when it first happened, i thought it was something on the road and ignored it. when it was more pronounced and happened a couple of more times, i brought it to the dealer. they said they had no other reports and could not replicate it. the service manager took me on a test drive and the car was fine. i knew this would happen as the acceleration is only occasional. i was advised to call toyota national, which i did, and was told that since this could not be replicated that there was nothing they could do and no recourse i had as the complaint could not be replicated. it has happened several times since, so i have paid close attention, as my heart has been racing, to the conditions. it has happened when i am braking while going over manholes, speed strips, cracks in the pavement. it feels like the tire is getting hung up slightly, doesn't get any traction.the brake malfunction light comes on. also, on the multi-information display, the indicator has just moved from eco to chg.the other day, it was 34 degrees and i was braking as i came up to a light and the car slid and vibrated. i was going about 5 miles an hour. there may have been some black ice or frost on the ground, but the shaking was intense and i had difficulty controlling the car for a few seconds until i stopped. *tr

There have been several times when the brakes of my 2010 toyota prius have released, often when i hit a bump or am going over a hill. the car feels as if it's suddenly accelerating even though i am pushing down on the brakes. this has happened at least 4 - 5 times per week since i bought my car in july 2009. today, i was unable to stop as i approach an intersection despite pushing down on the brakes. the car hesitated and finally the brakes engaged. luckily no one was coming through the intersection for if there had been, i surely would have hit them. *tr

I have owned a 2010 prius for about a month, and have driven just over 1000 miles on it. there have been three separate incidents now where my brakes have experienced a sudden failure while decelerating. each time occurred right after hitting a pothole or a bump in the road. passengers in my car have reported a feeling of the brakes catching or jerking while driving on bumpy roads. the three incidents i have mentioned were during winter and during possibly icy conditions. however, i know how to operate a vehicle on ice, and i am aware of how abs braking feels. during each incident, i would be braking slowly, with plenty of time, then hit a bump, and experience a feeling of skidding while the brakes disengaged for a few seconds. i almost hit a pedestrian at a toll booth, a concrete divider during highway driving, and another motorist at a sudden stop condition along another highway. please investigate these cars. i can compensate my driving skills to adjust for road conditions that i am aware of. if any sudden braking is required, and i hit a pothole at the right time, i will not be able to stop. *tr

I have a new toyota prius 2010 and have experienced the loss of braking combined with a simultaneous acceleration about 4 times now. it is incredibly scary. i have never had this happen on any other car that i've driven. it happens when i hit a bump in the rear. i now see that many people are experiencing this as i saw an article on msnbc.msn.com. i now see that others are experiencing the same problem. this has to be investigated. the last time it happened i was facing a cliff and had the car not stopped, my daughter and i would have gone off the cliff and probably would have perished. this is asking for accidents to happen and something must be done to fix this problem. there are way too many of these cars on the road. i do not have the win number on hand, but will add it tomorrow. this has occurred approx 4 times and the car accelerates at the same time i lose braking capabilities. *tr

Toyota prius 2010: when the car hits a bump in the road it will accelerate so fast by itself which can be very dangerous and fatal. it can highly cause an accident if the driver cannot step on the brakes in time to stop the car acceleration. i went to my local toyota dealer here in queens new york and to my surprise the rep said i have never heard of that complaint and did not pursue the matter at all. another safety concern is that i hit a small pothole and the whole tire was damaged on my brand new 2010 prius which i have been driving for barely two months. i am very concerned about these safety problems and do not really know where to start getting assistance. thank you very much. *tr

I bought a 2010 prius in september 2009. in october, i drove over a pothole that was about 6 inches deep and covered the entire width of the lane. here is what it felt like happened: when the back wheels hit the bottom or the top of the pothole, my car suddenly accelerated and i had a very difficult time stopping it. i managed to not crash into the car in front of me, but just barely. it hasn't happened since. the pothole was apparently the result of work on the road, b/c it was squared, like the pavement had be intentionally cut. *tr

2010 toyota prius accelerates slightly when brake is compressed and car is traveling over large road bumps or manhole covers/slippery surfaces (multiple times each time i drive). i have not yet reported this to toyota, based on the online and news-broadcast accounts of how toyota has responded to much more serious acceleration issues. i intend to attempt returning the vehicle to the company for a full refund. *tr

I have a 2010 toyota prius and it accelerates randomly. usually when i push on the brake a little bit, but not all the way, it will jump forward and accelerate. i heard about the issues with the mat and i removed the mat months ago. its is still unintentionally accelerating. it has happened may 6 times since i bought the car in july. i am scared to drive it and have been driving my spare car until something is done by toyota or someone else that cares about the safety of drivers. *tr

While applying the brakes to slow down or to come to a stop, if the car hits a bump, pothole or the like, the brakes release momentarily, causing the car?s momentum to continue forward longer/further than you would normally expect or want. this is especially dangerous when coming to a stop at a new york city pedestrian crosswalk or trying to slow down with a car close in front of you. i brought the car into the dealership and had it evaluated by toyota's field technical specialist who reported the following, when [the car] senses impending wheel slip, it will first disable the regenerative brakes. when it does that it feels like the car sort of accelerates because you lost the regenerative braking and you're using the brake assist that you have from your foot. so that is 'normal operation' on the system. it is working as designed. despite the explanations for why this is happening and whether or not this is ?normal operation?, the bottom line is, if the car is not stopping when it should, the safety of passengers and pedestrians is in jeopardy. i called and wrote two certified letters to toyota's customer experience department and to akio toyota, and received a phone call from an executive analyst from the president's office. no toyota representative would do anything in regards to the problem--they maintain that the braking operation is normal. i have seen other complaints on the nhtsa web site and on prius owners blogs that contradict toyota's assertion and support the claim that the brakes are indeed a safety issue that must be addressed.*tr

My new 2010 prius accelerated on it's own as i was braking and slowly approaching the car in front of me that was stopped at a stop light quite some distance away. my car had almost come to a complete stop when suddenly the engine revved on it's own as my foot was still on the brake. i had to press down so hard on the break to keep it from surging forward that the abs light came on and then the car's rev went down on it's own and all was back to normal and hadn't happened again since. i brought the car to the dealer and they kept it for two days but didn't find anything wrong with it. i have two small children and bought this car for a number of reasons, safety being one of the important ones. i am no longer feeling safe. this was not the floor mats, or a sudden stop mistaking one pedal for another, or any other form of driver error. this was the car! please help to discover the cause and make toyota fix it before someone gets hurt or killed. thank you, chris toppin *tr

On three occasions, while driving on clean, dry road surfaces, my 2010 prius suddenly and briefly accelerated without any warning after i drove over minor bumps and, one 1 occasion, a manhole cover, while braking. the sensation was that of the engine suddenly surging and accelerating. i was fortunately able to apply harder pressure to the brake pedal, regained control of the vehicle and avoided crashing into the car in front of me. i spoke with a toyota field technical specialist today who told me that the mechanics of the car are such that if a wheel hits a bump or moves onto a surface that causes it to rotate at a different rate versus the other wheels, the car thinks it is going into a skid, and the abs system kicks in. also, the system that generates energy to recharge the battery, which also effectively brakes the car, suddenly ceases to operate. consequently, you have the sensation of acceleration when in fact, according to the toyota specialist, the car stopped decelerating. nonetheless, this sudden deceleration is unexpected, and if i was not focused at those exact moments and failed to immediately apply significant pressure to the brake pedal, i could have easily crashed into an object, or car, or person, in front of me. i do not feel safe in this car, and am worried that my wife or son could have a major problem responding to this sudden lack of control. there is great potential for serious injury or death from this type of incident. my car is about 1 month old, with 1,250 miles on it. i understand from the specialist that toyota dealerships on long island have had at least one other similar complaint. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 toyota prius. while driving over large and small speed bumps the vehicle accelerated without warning. as a consequence his risk for serious injury and crash were increased. he is in the process of having the vehicle inspected to determine the cause of the failure. the failure and current mileages were 1,000. updated 09/14/09 *bf the consumer stated on 6 separate occasions , with 2 different drivers, sudden, brief and unexplained engine acceleration was experienced when a bump was hit in the road while applying the brakes. the driver could hear the engine rev up and there was a surge of power from the engine despite his foot not being on the accelerator, but being on the brake. in each of the 6 incidents the consumer and second driver were able to stop safely, bit were put at risk of an accident and/or injury due to the erroneous acceleration. updated 09.15.09. *jb updated 10/13/09. *lj the consumer stated the cruise control was not engaged and it didn't feel like the anti-lock brakes engaged either. updated 10/13/09 the consumer also experienced braking problems as well. the consumer stated the problem has greatly diminished. updated 02/05/10.
