Defect SummaryCertain all weather floor mats (awfm) specifically sold as an optional accessory for use on the 2007 and 2008 model year lexus es350 and toyota camry vehicles. the awfm includes two grommet holes and retaining hooks (clips) to secure the mat to the vehicle's carpet. if the awfm is not secured by itself or if it is placed on top of an existing carpeting floor mat, the mat could move forward during the vehicle usage and it may interfere with the accelerator pedal.
Consequence SummaryThe accelerator pedal may temporarily become stuck in a partially depressed position when returning to the idle position. if this condition occurs, it may increase the possibility of a crash.
Corrective SummaryToyota will notify owners of all 2007 and 2008 lexus es350 and toyota camry vehicles about the recall even though not all of these owners will have purchased the all weather mats. if the owner had not purchased the mats, they are not affected by the recall. this letter will advise owners when replacement mats will be available or how to return the all weather floor mat set to obtain a refund. a second letter will be sent after mats are available requesting owners to return their mats to a lexus or toyota dealer for exchange of the driver's side mat. the first letter is expected to be sent during early october 2007 and the second in late november 2007. owners can contact the lexus customer assistance center at 1-800-255-3987 or the toyota customer experience center at 1-888-270-9371.

I have 2008 tundra that was recalled for 'acceleration problems' and ostensibly fixed, although i had never experienced any problems. now that is has been fixed i do have a problem. from a stand-still position, i will depress the accelerator and nothing happens. all of a sudden the accelerator will engage causing my truck to, all of a sudden, jump (accelerate). it doesn't happen all the time....but i'm afraid that it could happen at a stop light where i wish to begin forward - no results and then a possible surge where i could possible hit a vehicle in front of me. *tr

My 2006 toyota corolla ce would not stop when i exited off i-5 at the 128th st exit near millcreek wa. the engine was racing and i floored the brake and threw the car into neutral to avoid a huge crash into the vehicles in front of me. i bought the car new in 2006 and the computer has had to have two replacements. the car would not run without warning and has had to be towed. i am fearful of my safety and that of my passengers in this vehicle and have had little explanation at the dealership except that this is 'rare'. the dealership told me to take the mats out of the driver's side of the car altogether, but i'm positive the failure to stop had nothing to do with stuck mats. this all seems connected to the problem i've had from the very beginning with the car's computer failures. *tr

While test driving my 2006 ford escape hybrid at the bill walsh dealership in ottowa, il feb 2009, salesman mark imhoff told me that the intermittent high pitched noise from the battery compartment was normal. when i took the car in for service nov. 2009 at the tom wood ford dealership in carmel, in, i was told that the sound was due to a failed battery door actuator. i was told that failure to replace this part could result in the battery overheating, and possible explosion of the hybrid battery. i paid to have the part replaced, and it broke again may 2010. after doing research, i have found that this is a common problem with the ford escape hybrid.

On 30 december 2010, i took my 2004 toyota avalon for service per a recall for a steering bracket replacemant. i picked up the car on 03 january 2011 and drove it home. the next time it was driven was on january 10 and i noticed the steering was sticking so i notified the toyota service department. while driving to have the vehicle checked, the steering locked up and i nearly crashed before managing to stop. the car was towed in for service and i was told that there was aproblem with the steering rack. i have serious concerns that repairs to the steering due to a recall were performed and immediately following this problem occurred.

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) hello, my name is[xxx], i live in [xxx]and i am experiencing a vehicle trouble. this is a model of a 2008 toyota scion xb. well as i speak right now my vehicle has 49,409 miles and it is still sitting in their shop since 05/10/2010 for the transmission to be replaced. they thought it was a sensor problem but then they ended to tell me that my vehilcle is having already a transmissions problem. i brought my vehicle to them on 05/09/2010 because i was driving on a 30/45 mph lane and it starting to vibrate pretty unsual. the next day the service department called me and said that they do not hear anything wrong with the vehilcle so then i took it back left on my way out. well the next day it started to occur again and this time it was much heavier the vibration. so i took it back to the same person that i've have dealt with in this issue. and i had explained to him that the issue is not fixed. i explained to him that i still feel the vibration on my vehicle you need to text drive it yourself so you'll know what i am trying to explain. well the guy did test drive it and of course he did describe it that it is an unsual noise that the scion xb is doing. he also indicated to me that it is too soon for this vehicle to be having a transmission issue. so they will have their toyota technicians guys to take a look at it. and the 3 weeks are almost here and my car it is still sitting in their shop to be fixed. now, the big question is will this car be safe for me to drive with myfamily on the highway? yes, they are changing the transmissions but what will happen if this transmission breaks down on me 1 year from now or even months from now. i will really be worried especially when i am with my childrens. can you please help me with some suggestions or any tips that i need to do? i feel very unsafe now that this vehicle it is not going to be safe vehicle for me to drive anymore! thank you! *tr

2005 corolla, 60,000 miles: check engine light came on. car went into safe mode (idle speed) while doing 65mph. toyota replaced throttle body and the next day it did the same thing. toyota said the new' throttle body they put in was defective. it's still at toyota waiting for another throttle body. this is a very dangerous situation. pulling out into traffic you do not know if it is going to go into safe mode or not, and of course, going down highway 50-70 mph there is a good chance of being rear-ended. this is not a safe situation. *tr

I own a 2001 toyota highlander and have had the same exact problem happen to me several times in the past seven years. the first time i experienced a serious problem was about four years ago and my son and i could have been killed had it not been for some fast thinking on my part. i was trying to stop at a red light and my car accelerated for no reason. at first, i thought my brakes had failed since when i stomped on the brake, my car would not stop, even though i had both feet pressing down on it. at this point, with cars in front of me that i was going to hit, i swerved into the turn lane and then all i could see was an 18 wheeler coming at me. i was so lucky there were no cars on the side road that i turned onto and all the while i was steadily trying to get my vehicle under control. i ended up throwing it into park as i made the turn. it took turning my car off to bring it to a complete stop. at that time, i thought my floor mat had somehow gotten stuck on the accelerator, so i took all my front floor mats out. unfortunately, i have had the same problem of the car revving for no reason while driving it several times and/or upon starting it. it would just idle high in the 6/8 rpm range. we just thought it was cold. however, one day i was driving the car and it kept shooting forward at every stop. i'd have to stomp on the brakes with both feet. i'd pull off, stop my car, turn it off, restart it, and the rpm's who shoot back up to 8. i kept praying that i wouldn't have to stop. it was the most frightening 15 mile ride back home that i ever took and seriously, i wanted to just leave the vehicle on the side of the road. i refused to drive it and i took it to my mechanic who changed an rpm sensor. this has not stopped the problem either. periodically, my car's rpm's will shoot up to 4 or 6 while i am driving it or upon starting the car. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota avalon. the contact stated that while attempting to change a flat tire, the factory jack did not raise the car high enough to install or remove the tire and failed. the factory jack was labeled as having a lifting capacity of 2,200 lbs however, the vehicle weighed approximately 4,000 pounds. the contact determined that situation to be a very serious safety issue. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer nor was the manufacturer made aware of the failure. the factory jack was not replaced. the failure and current mileage was 62,000.

Safety issue - vehicle was not equipped with a spare tire, jack and tire wrench. run-flat tires were prematurely worn prior to 30k. toyota dealers refuse to resolve tire issues and will not add spare tire and jack to vehicle. this is major highway safety issue!

Floor jack, when changing a damaged mud flap from the the front driver's side of the truck, i placed the floor jack where the toyota manual recommends, after the whole (1/4in less than whole) extension of the jack was applied the tire was barely lifted above ground, this was done on my homes drive way a totally flat area with no inclination anyway and all proper security put in place and the floor jack was inclined... no accident occurred, but (big one but), imagine under adverse conditions and nothing else to do around to change a flat tire, wet or uneven ground, traffic, wind or anything else that can really create an accident, for this kind of truck the oem floor jack provided is not a proper one. *tr

While pulling into a parking place, as i lifted my foot from the accelerator to begin braking, my 2007 toyota avalon, which had already had the recall fix performed last year, suddenly accelerated and lept forward running into the building wall that was about 5 feet in front of the parking slot. the car came to an abrupt stop, at which time my foot was clearly on the brake. i just sat still for a few minutes, sort of in a slight shock of wondering what the h... just happened? my left knee, elbow and right shoulder immediately became painful, but nothing seemed too bad so i put the car in reverse and backed away from the wall into the proper position in the parking slot. the car appeared to run okay, i ran through all the gears with no problems, checked the brakes, then turned off the engine and got out. i was expecting to find serious front end damage, but the only thing besides paint scatches was a bent license plate frame. i checked for leaks under the hood, and finding nothing appearing damaged there i drove slowly home,(about 5 miles). twice i felt a slight shutter when moving my foot from accelerator to brake when preparing to stop. my husband took the car to the dealership the next day; he felt the same shuttter on the way to the dealership(20 miles). the mechanic was unable to find anything wrong, any evidence of an incident in the sensors and i was told by the service dept. asst. manager that nothing could be done until it happens again. so, basically, toyota says i have to have a major accident before they can do anything about this.i am not apparently seriously injured at this time, but the past 3 days i've been very uncomfortable and i've gone through dangerous amounts of tylenol. we'll see what the next few days brings. i have a doctor's appointment next week for a regular checkup just in case. i do not want to drive this car again. my husband will probably be brave enough to do it, but i doubt that i will.
