Car at about 37,000 miles. only drive to store and drop kids off to school. car parked for 10 minutes while at store shopping. came back, started the engine. the engine light, vsc and 4wd lights all lighted up. when to local toyota dealer, dealer said can't service it at this time need to make appointment. dealer stated based on the lights, this might be the ignition coil.. it's known to have problem. estimated cost to fix about $1500. but we need to computerized the codes..

To whom it may concern: i sent the below letter directly to toyota and received a note back stating my issue is not considered a recall. however, i feel this is a safety issue and toyota should be covering the repairs. i have a 2006 rav4 that encountered an issue feb 2010. i took it into a toyota dealership and the diagnosis was left rear speed sensor and harness. since the estimate was a little over $1000.00, i was not able to afford the repair. within a few weeks after i picked up the car, the abs, trac and vsc lights went off and stayed off until dec 2010. when the lights came back on, i started to research the issue and came up with a technical service bulletin (tsb) explaining exactly the symptom i am experiencing. the tsb states that some 2006 model year rav4 vehicles may exhibit an abs m.i.l. on............ the tsb goes on stating the rear wheel sensor have been modified to correct this condition. my vin number according to this tsb shows that my rav4 is one of those vehicles that fall into this category of a possible failure. the warranty information stated the repair is covered under the toyota comprehensive warranty of 3 years or 36,000 miles. the warranty application does also state the repair is limited to correction based upon a customer's specific complaint. i drove to a dealer in my area and explained the issue and showed them the tsb. i also called your customer experience center. unfortunately, i did not receive any cooperation concerning my issue. my rav4 is 4 years old and had around 48,000 miles (the first time this issue occurred) - just out of the comprehensive warranty. i purchased a toyota for its reliability and safety. now, both of those reasons are hindered because of an issue toyota knew about in 2006 that unfortunately occurred on my vehicle just out of the warranty. i would like to talk to someone that can make a reasonable and conscious decision concerning my complaint.

I purchased a toyota 2006 rav 4 in january of 2006 and had the car serviced at the toyota dealer per the scheduled factory maintenance suggestions. in october of 2006, i was trying to avoid running a yellow light on peachtree street in atlanta, and accelerated hard to avoid the yellow light. the car lunged forward and was out of control. even though i lifted my foot completely off the pedal. after getting through the initial shock i put the transmission in neutral, the engine revved up to the red line and i turned the ignition switch off. after waiting for a minute i restarted the car in park and the engine idled normally. i took the car to the toyota dealer for the scheduled maintenance and after inspecting it he told me there was nothing wrong with the car. after the recall of the toyota rav 4's i called the toyota dealer i bought the car from and talked to his service manager. he told me that the 2006 rav 4's have not been recalled as they have a different gas pedal and were made in japan. he could not explain the cause of the acceleration. the car has not done that since, however i am not driving the car anymore. my daughter is and this concerns me greatly. no fixes or repairs have been done on the car by the toyota dealer. *tr

This is the second complaint i have had on my 2006 rav4 v6 2wd emission system causing my vehicle stability, traction control, and speed control systems to fail. the first event is odi number 10268422. the second event was due to a mile of driving slowly in light snow causing a fuel evaporation filter to break a tube fitting off. water entered the broken tube and failed the fuel evap charcoal canister which in turn failed the vehicle stability, traction control, and speed control systems (odi number 10268424). i see no reason to tie emissions into safety systems such as these unless it is to encourage owners to bring their vehicles in for emissions service. after some wrangling, the dealer agreed to submit it to my extended warranty and it was covered in full. i was told the charcoal cannister would have cost me $700. *tr

This is the third complaint i have had on my 2006 rav4 v6 2wd emission system causing my vehicle stability, traction control, and speed control systems to fail. the first event is odi number 10268422. the second event was submitted also, but i did not get an email- hopefully is submitted. this third event was due to a mile of driving slowly in light snow causing a fuel evaporation filter to break a tube fitting off (second event). water entered the broken tube and failed the fuel evap charcoal canister which in turn failed the other systems listed in this third event. after some wrangling, the dealer agreed to submit it to my extended warranty and it was covered in full. *tr

2/25/08 instance #1: i have had three instances of emissions components on my 2006 2wd rav4 v6 being damaged in the 65000 miles i have driven it. the first instance manifested itself when the vehicle stability control, traction control and cruise control systems shut-off and lights in the instrument cluster came on. a damaged charcoal canister was replaced at the dealer under my extended warranty on 2/25/08. (this occurred a second time on 3/19/09 after an evaporation filter was damaged on 3/3/09 after driving a mile in less than an inch of wet snow. each event shut off the vehicle stability control, traction control and cruise control systems and the associated system lights in the instrument cluster came on. the dealer felt the damage was due to my operation of the vehicle and at first denied submitting it to my extended warranty. i insisted the part was defective to fail in these circumstances and they eventually covered all repairs.) *tr
