I have had numerous sensor problems, replaced free of charge at this point. had to replace wheel bearing and wiring due to corrosion, free of charge now other side has same wheel bearing, corrosion problem and they want $1000.00. have also had a klunking in steering column (bad knuckle joint) that techs have not found. hear that would cost at least $800.00. they also say water pump leaking and need replacement to prevent engine damage another approx. $1000.00. i've been online and these are all problems discussed by other rav4 owners. the tech told me there are not enough problems to incite a recall. mean while i've had nothing but problems since i bought this vehicle and it doesn't even have 60k. now they want 3k to fix current problems.

Both struts gave out while toyota rav4 parked at fred haas toyota country dealership in houston. service director indicates this is known toyota problem. executive offices of toyota usa confirms both struts can give out at same time for older vehicles. they say this is not a toyota issue because is outside warranty period. people could be seriously injured or killed if both give out at same time and vehicle is moving; no matter the age.

I brought my rav4 for service last jan 31, 2013 at a toyota dealer here in hawaii. they told me that there is a sign of a leak on the water pump and charging me $602 just for parts. i declined for the repair. at home, i saw in the internet that this is a common problem for this vehicle. at a mileage of 55109, i don't think this should a problem. so maybe its a defective water pump.

My vehicle recently had a recall for potential rust issues with the rear lower suspension arm. both my sway bar arms are now broken due to rust and toyota is charging me $500 to fix the issue. the service rep at the dealership told me this is not a safety issue but the sway bars prevent the car from rolling over. this sounds like a major safety issue to me and also directly related to the recall issue. this is the 6th recall on my vehicle and i have submitted a request to toyota to fix this issue at no cost. considering toyota did not have a solution to the rear suspension recall and forced it's owners to drive with the problem for multiple months exposing us to potential danger, asking them to fix this problem at no cost is reasonable. my dealership even went as far as to tell me that if i wanted them to inspect the recall situation prior to a fix being available i would have to pay labor costs. last time i checked, the customer should not be responsible for paying labor costs due to a recall. i would appreciate that the sway bar arms on my rav4 are fixed at no cost. if rust causing threads may wear, causing the arm to separate, which could result in the loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash that resulted in my recall than it seems like the two problems are related as the parts are in similar areas of the undercarriage. thank you for your assistance.

My wife left home to drive to the store - a 3-mile trip, all in-town driving. after traveling about 1/2 mile, smoke started coming into the car from behind the panel on the inside of the driver's door. she stopped the car. the volume of smoke accumulating in the car increased. a passer-by stopped, called 911, reported the fire, and assisted my wife, who climbed into the front passenger seat and exited the car out the front, right passenger door. by the time the firemen and police arrived, approximately 3-5 minutes later, smoke was dense and flames were surrounding the edges of the door panel. firemen sprayed water on the panel, pulled the panel off the door, and continued to apply water until the fire was extinguished. thankfully, my wife was able to stop and exit the car quickly. had she been in heavy, fast-moving traffic, it could have been a life-threatening situation. also, the non-availability of firemen would have resulted in much more fire- damage to the car and possibly an explosion.

I was driving the rav4 in april 2011 and again on september 14, 2012 when the same incident occurred.the first time there was no warning, the battery light did not come on, first the radio quit playing and then the car went dead as i was moving in traffic. needless to say it was very stressful being struck in traffic. thanks to some kind ladies, the car was pushed out of the way. we suspected it was a battery malfunction, although the battery was only 8 months old. we took the battery to place of purchase and they tried to charge it, it would not charge so they replaced the battery for free because it was still under warranty. on friday, september 14 i was driving in heavy traffic and this time the battery light came on for a few minutes, then the radio went out and the car died. this was extremely stressful as traffic was speeding behind me and i was afraid i would get rear ended. once again there were two females that helped me push the car out of traffic. once again the battery was replaced as it was still under warranty, however this time the battery light will not go out. after doing some investigating, i believe the problem stems from the rav 4 's electrical steering and the fact that it pulls to much power. there is not reason why the car should just quit while your driving in traffic. it is hard to trust the vehicle when it suddenly stops in traffic and will not start again.

My 2007 rav4 driver side rear window wont go up and down. the driver side control switch for the rear driver side window does not move. the switch for the rear driver side window on the back door does not work all the time. when it does work just one tap and the rear window (driver side) goes down all the way by its self. the other three switches for the windows and the other three windows seem to work and respond how they should. only problem is with the rear window and the switch on both the driver door and the rear window door (driver side). also while driving to work driving aprox 10 mph my rear passenger side wheel bent in toward the wheel well. the tie rod was broke and the tie rod was very rusted . the dealer said it was a freak occurance and fixed it while under warrenty. problem is that the other side of the rear suspension (driver side) is also rusted but they did not fix it at the same time. this happond june 14th at about 6:10 am i was not told of the recal of this tie rod issue at the time of it getting fixed . they played it off as it it were a freak occurance.. toyota/scion dealer of berlin city toyota

Vehicle was recalled by toyota to have accelerator pedal modified and floor mats changed in order to avoid inadvertent acceleration. floor mat change applied only to original toyota supplied floor mats, which above vehicle has, at least according to accessory window sticker supplied at purchase. when vehicle was taken to ourisman toyota for compliance, dealer marked on customer yellow form that mats were not original toyota and that they would not be changed. however dealer stated verbally that mats actually were original toyota, but that customers were not happy with new mats since they were too thin. therefore dealer decided to comply with safety directive by marking all original mats as non-original mats, which did not have to be changed. nice to know that the dealer is customer oriented, but i am left wondering if that jeopardizes safety. incident was reported to toyota on the safety email address listed on their web site, but no reply received.

My wife was driving a 2007 rva 4 limited when the car ahead of her suddenly stopped. speed was 25 to 30 mph in stop and go traffic. she braked and collided with the car ahead of her. my wife was able to catch herself and was sitting up right when the air bags deployed. there was a delay in the airbags by several seconds after the front collision. soon after the airbags deployed, thick black smoke came up through the steering column. my wife evacuated the car and within five minutes the car was totally engulfed in flames. i am concerned on the delay in airbag deployment and the fire and speed at which it spread. we loved our rva but have a concern about buying any toyota product.

While driving on the highway, my accelerator opened to full throttle. i had to depress the brake strongly for between 10 and 15 seconds until the accelerator clicked off. the cruise control was on, but it was not set. the pedal was well clear of the floor mat, and looking down during the incident i could see that it was clear of any objects. it was a terrifying event. upon notifying a local toyota dealership, they tested the vehicle and claimed they did not discover what the problem was.

2007 toyota rav 4. consumer states problem with vehicle keys *tgw the consumer stated the plastic casing on the ignition key separated from the metal part of the primary key. she then started using the spare key and within a year, the same thing happened to that key. the dealer informed the consumer it would cost $200 to replace the key. the consumer stated it is a challenge to hold the parts together when starting the vehicle. *jb

It was a sunny day, and i drove my 2007 rav4 at the speed of 40 miles per hour. suddenly, i heard a noise ziiiii from the master window switch at the driver side. i saw an electrical fire at the master window switch at the driver side. the smoke came out from the master window switch. i pulled over my car, turned off the engine and left the car. when the flame went out, i saw a burned hole about quarter size in the switch. note: there is no water leaked / coffee spilled inside the switch. i went to toyota dealer. the mechanics stated that the fuse did not blow out. dealer denied to replacing the switch without charging.

Master window power switch caught a fire in august 2011. it had been giving me problems since july 2009. toyota would not fix it because to many miles. how does a power window stop working on a 2007 rav4 when it only two years old. faulty master power switch. it had a burn hole the size of a dime. i'm glad i took a picture of it. the first time i saw smoke was june 2011. i was so afraid to drive the fire trap i traded it in for a new car. the rav4 was paid off now i have a car loan at 19.9%,

Clunking noise when turning steering wheel left or right while driving, toyota dealer check tsb and found t-sb-0318-08. advise to replace intermediate steering shaft which cost me total of $834.86 including four wheel alignment. i have researched the problem with 2007 toyota rav4 in the internet and it seems like all the problem for this car is all the same. a recall should be implemented to correct the problem, do you have to wait until something really bad happend.

After going through a puddle a plastic hose below driver seat broke. i replaced it from a dealer for $178. after a month or so check engine, vsc and 4wd lights came on. checked with dealer and seems some problem with the charcoal cannister. and the cost to repair is around $1200. i am not sure why this much damage just by driving the car in a puddle? very bad quality from toyota.

The sun visor on the driver' side in my 2007 toyota rav4 is drooping down and causing serious visibility problems. this is the second visor, as i had to replace it once about a couple of years after buying the vehicle, and as i remember it was not cheap to replace. now the replacement is at the same condition and will not stay up. i have been made aware by other toyota owners that this is a very common problem with the rav4 and other toyota vehicles, and i don't understand why toyota would allow this type of defect to continue in their otherwise reputable vehicles.

May 5, 2010 accident. toyota rav4 2007 accelerated. at time of acceleration i had already begun braking to make a right turn. engine began loud racing and car accelerated. with very little room to maneuver i turned car hard right to avoid cars and ran into a large tree with car still accelerating stopping only when hitting tree and bounced off. when car came to a stop engine was still racing and very loud. the accident was on private property so police were not called. witness observed slow down and turn signals and then seeing car begin accelerating very quickly. 2nd witness that heard the noise of the crash came out of house and was alarmed at the loud racing still coming from the engine after car had come to a stop. engine racing did not stop until i was able to turn the ignition off. accident happened in a matter of less than a minute after acceleration began and i was not able to take hands off of wheel to attempt putting into neutral or turn engine off. car estimate was $14,000 which did not include the new engine and transmission that would be required so it was totaled. injuries sustained by me include severe bruising, soreness and burn like abrasions across neck and right arm from seat belt. a concusion due to head and neck being thrown back ward and forward on impact. remaining symptoms include dizziness, nausea, headaches, cognative issues. this was 2nd experience of acceleration problem. first incident 2 weeks prior, lasted less than 30 seconds with no accident and car resumed previous speed before acceleration. car has had full maintinence with dealer since purchase as a new car. no previous accidents. car has never required any repair other than a tire and all maintenance was properly maintained.

The accelerator stuck and raced while driving into newport nh in a line of traffic. i was fortunate that there was an empty parking lot to turn into or i would have hit the car in front of me. the car is a toyota rav 4 bought new in june of 2007 and this was the first time this happened, and it was before the news of the toyota problems surfacing.. since then it has repeated this 8 times through april of 2010, completely randomly. it has been to two nh dealerships (about 20 hours of inspections/ diagnoses) and they have not been able to replicate the problem. in fact toyota has told me that there is nothing further they can do and if the car is indeed dangerous or an accident waiting to happen that is my problem. at this point i am not sure they believe me but i can assure you that the defect is very real and the last time it occurred on april 5 there were two people in the car who saw it firsthand as it happened twice that day. additionally i don't know what to do with the car as i can't sell it with this kind of defect and my wife will no longer drive it. loaning the car to anyone else becomes a liability and driving with young children or elderly folks is out of the question. frankly i have been highly disappointed in toyota's response which has been slow or non responsive until recently when they informed me that everything is working properly and that arbitration is my only recourse. the car has 22000 and is still under warranty.
