While traveling home at normal speed the vsc/trac lights came on and the vehicle began vibrating and making a grinding noise. after stopping on the side of the road, i called my husband and was told to turn the vehicle off and on to possibly reset the vsc/trac. it seemed to work briefly but it started to do it again. after making it home, my husband drove the vehicle initially without any issues. however, he attempted to take the vehicle to the store and the problem started again. he noted audible alerts and the vsc/trac lights illuminating, grinding from what seemed to be the passenger side front tire. he had to pull off to the side of the road; however, found it difficult to control the vehicle. the speed was estimated at 35-40 mph, dry conditions with no obvious road conditions or issues. smoke was observed coming from the passenger front of the vehicle. this problem had been noted several time randomly over the past two years, but has seemingly been resolved by turning the vehicle off and back on. this was the first time that the issue has persisted, and the increased difficulty in steering. *tr

Vehicle skid control simply engages at normal speeds and normal driving conditions. hard grinding, pulling to the right or left and almost no braking. yes, they recalled 2003 to 05 but not 2002? why? it's the exact same problem. someone will be injured at some point and in fact, there are some accounts of injury. in my family's case, this has happened while driving about 8 times since we purchased this from a private dealer and after we had a certified mechanic check it out. this is on toyota. please investigate this. this is total negligence and disregard for individual safety. *tr

I have been having the same problem with my 02' sequoia. at first the vsc trac light/ vsc off would come on & go off after turning engine off. then it started staying on along w/ abs light & brake. all the lights continue to stay on. my vehicle only has 126,800 miles which i consider less to be having an issue at this time. i'm a mother of three in which this is my primary vehicle that carries my precious cargo. i really do think that toyota should issue some kind of recall in regards to this matter, it clearly looks likes this is a problem w/ other sequoia owners & they need to stand behind there products. especially when it involves the safety of lives. it would be great if someone could help me w/ this matter. *tr

Again, after picking the vehicle up from the toyota service department in which the skid control ecu and brake booster assembly was replaced, the vehicle repeated all alarms and malfunctions as before: slippery lamp illuminated, alarm sounded, vsc trac and trac off lamp lit while abs brakes engaged while driving on a slight decline at 45 mph. i returned the vehicle to toyota immediately! the technicians informed me on the following monday that the seal for the master cylinder was cracked after replacing the brake booster assy. surprisingly, it has happened again and i am taking it back to the service department tomorrow morning. there has to be a systemic problem as this problem is a known issue with this type of vehicle. it is disappointing that toyota would keep these vehicles on the road with know problems of the such. fortunately for me, there hasn't been any accidents. i fear for the safety myself and my coworker as we commute in the vehicle daily. more importantly, that of my wife and children when we drive the vehicle. *tr

While driving at 50 mph on a flat concrete paved road in dry conditions, the slippery wet lamp lit and the alarm sounded for approximately 10 seconds while the abs brakes engaged on. the lamp flashed until the brakes released and the vsc trac and trac off lamps illuminated and remained on after restarting the vehicle. this occurrence happened immediately after receiving the vehicle from the toyota service department in which the skid control ecu was replaced for $770.79. this is a repeated occurrence of the problems. i delivered the vehicle back to toyota to have it repaired. the technician informed me that the brake booster assembly would need to be replaced to resolve the problem. the maintenance cost $1,606.24 and they kept if for 5 days. *tr

Our 2002 toyota sequoia has a completely rusted out frame, rear differential and other parts such as brake lines etc. while driving on the highway the rear differential exploded and the car would not drive any further. i put the car in park, turned off the car and the car kept rolling despite being in park. i applied the emergency brake to stop the car. the rear differential housing was completely rusted through and leaking fluid. we then discovered that in addition the frame of the car was completely rusted through. the car is no longer safe to drive because of the rusted frame and under carriage. our dealership has been wonderful and rented me a car and will replace the frame but toyota is saying that i am responsible for the differential replacement. *tr

I have owned a 2002 toyota sequoia scince 2006. this problem began occuring in the winter of 2007 with the vsc, vsc trac, and abs warning lights all coming on. this kept continuing anytime i was driving in wet snowy conditions. i began to reserch this problem on line and it seems there are many cases of this on 2001-2003 toyota sequoias. i took it to a dealer and they couldn't find any computer codes relating to this issue. at the end of last winter the problem seemed to become worse. even in dry conditions on dry pavement the vsc computer begins to take over acceleration and very often! and sometimes the lights come on and sometimes not. again i researched and found there to be a toyota recall on 2003 sequoias only for the same problem that has been affecting my sequoia! i called toyota, they gave me a case # and told me to take it in to the dealer. i took it back to a toyota dealer and again they could not duplicate the lights turning on or find any computer codes concerning the problem. that was approximatly 5 months ago and still the problem persists leading up to yesterdays accident. i drove up to the mountains to go snowboarding. when we left the resort it was snowing very heavy. i noticed the abs, vsc, and vsc trac lights come on again, as i was expecting them to. we drove about 7 miles down the road then i was moving in to the left turning lane of a traffic light. our speed was only 15-20 mph, and when i tried to slow down the wheels locked up and we began sliding. i let off the brakes and tried them again to no avail. i let off the brakes and tried to miss the vehicle in front of me by going to the left side of them over a small median as there was no traffic coming towards us in the intersection. but my rear tire bounced me off the median and into the vehicle.the damage was minor and there were no injuries. i believe this accident could have been avoided if the abs and vsc system was working properly. i believe the recall should include 01 and 02 sequoias.

2002 toyota sequoia abs and vehicle skid control (vsc) computer failure that causes safety concern in operating the vehicle (abs, vsc, parking brake lights stay on). in slippery road conditions, applying brakes or accelerating causes the vehicle to skid and slide easily. 2003 models have been recalled for similar issue with abs and vsc computer. please look into poor toyota's design or production quality of these vehicles before we get injured or worse...

Vsc, seat belt and check engine light randomly started coming on about 130,000 mi. tansky toyota service did brake work, the lights were off for several weeks but then would come off and on. we ignored it because we had just had it in to the dealer, it seemed to be a nuisance in an older vehicle but not dangerous. about 165,000 miles the vehicle developed a sudden loss of power in traffic. we speculated it was the lever that shifts from 4wd to 2wd. the dealer replaced that for $400, the lights were off for 3 days, then back on. now, we have had maybe five instances of sudden loss of power. this total loss of power usually occurs after driving 10 minutes locally, and after stopping at a light. turning the ignition off, and restarting fixes the issue. tansky toyota acts like they have never heard of such a thing, but when i look online every toyota blog is full of people just like me. i know it is an old vehicle. i just want to know how much will it cost me to really fix this problem. we have started only using this vehicle for non-critical driving locally. *tr

There are two issues that i would like to report to you. first is the abs braking/vsc system. second is the excessive rust through out the vehicle under carriage/chassis. first, i have a 2002 toyota sequoia. at 38,620 miles, the brake, abs, vsc on, ans vsc off lights come on when the engine started and while driving. i took it the dealer, thompson toyota, 122 w swamp road, doylestown, pa 18901, tel 215 245 9460. they stated that it is the rear brake pads that being worn out and required replacement. the dealer replaced the rear brake pads. after approximately 40 miles on the road (at 38660 miles), the identical situation occurred again: the brake, abs, vsc on, ans vsc off lights come on when the engine started and while driving. i took the car back to the dealer and they said that the vehicle needs

Toyota sequoia 2002 abs, parking brake light and trak warning lights turn on and stay on when the vehicle starts. toyota dealers say that the computer in the abs system is bad. the vehicle when going thru a bump or an uneven terrain loses power momentarily. it happens very often, almost every time the vehicle passes on bumps. i claimed to toyota that this is a safety design problem but toyota refuses to fix it. repairs are about 3 to 4 thousand dollars. *tr

2002 toyota sequoia has been operating since @ 62,000 miles with a non-functioning vsc/abs system. see that this has not yet been officially recalled, but can find all kinds of info and complaints on the web about this issue. dashboard lit up with all relative warning lights & vehicle has no abs nor vsc functionality. how could this important safety features well documented, chronic failure not be recalled? it is not exclusive to the 2002 model year either. this is very inappropriate. how many people have to die or get injured before this well documented safety equipment failure is responsibly addressed with a recall. i hope my complaint helps the tally towards this recall. consumers of this vehicle have bought it with a critical safety system that fails. toyota must be made to rectify this product safety and quality issue! *tr

The vehicle was examined at our local toyota dealer on 1/5/2012 because of making a grinding noise and shaking with acceleration at speeds above 20 mph. it was found to have extensive rust damage to the frame with a large rust hole in the right front area at the sway bar bushing bracket. the rear differential housing was rusted and leaking fluid, the right and left sway bars were broken, both front brake calipers were stuck and the rotors badly rusted. repairs for the frame alone were estimated at over $10,000 with more than that amount to take care of the other issues. this sequoia has been well maintained on a regular schedule, washed regularly and kept at night in a garage. the body and interior are in excellent condition. the car has only 76,000 miles on the odometer. it was quite a shock to go from a car we relied upon to carry us safely in winter weather to one which has had to be abandoned for scrap. i understand that frame rust issues have been a serious problem for many toyota models including the tacoma and tundra resulting in recalls. the sequoia needs to be added to this list.

To start, i want to stress that i do not understand why there is no recall for this problem. the vsc trac, abs, skid control and brake lights all came on and stayed on as of the above date. prior to that date, the vsc trac and skid lights would come on for no reason, but would go off upon turning off and restarting the car. when the lights came on and stayed on, i read the owner's manual and based on that information, was worried the the brakes would not work, so i called the dealer. when i spoke to someone in the dealer's repair shop about the problem before i brought the car in, he said that the warning lights meant that my abs system was gone and it would cost $2,000 to fix. he said that it was not covered by warranty or a recall. so, i took it to the nearest auto repair shop to my home, that i had used previously. they checked the warning lights with the computer diagnostic and could not find anything wrong. then, i took it to the dealer, and they checked the warning lights and said that the problem was low voltage with the battery. i had recently bought a new battery, so i took the car back to the first place, which checked the battery and said it was fine. so i received conflicting messages from the dealer. however, since other owners with my year/model toyota have had safety problems with the same issue and toyota has the same problem with the 2003 model and they have issued a recall, i believe it is a safety issue. i can't understand why no recall has been issued for the 2002 year. please look at all of the complaints about this exact issue from so many consumers (and i'm sure plenty of others who did not take the time to report it) and act before someone is seriously injured or killed!!!!!!

02 toyota sequoia purchased new. very common complaint. the vsc/abs/traction control lights brake issue.. after reading over numerous posts, forums, complaints, etc determined there isn't a repair and that fishing for a possible repair would be a huge cost.. as time progresses it increases in severity and problems. now front brakes are constantly grinding! it results in very poor performance, extreme danger and an extremely bad grinding/dragging noise. recently replaced both front calipers, pads, replaced the brake fluid, bleed the system and still no better. at this point the car is un-drive-able. it is no longer safe as i don't know what to do next. this is such an incredibly disappointing situation that toyota refuses to address. it is disgusting that toyota reacts to news reports and sadly a fatality to initiate a massive recall due to floor mats obstructing gas pedals, but when there is a major issue such as the faulty braking system they completely ignore the issue. toyota does not act as if customer is number one. their motto the next customer is number 1...those whom have already purchased are locked in and we won't do anything unless we are forced. i pray that no one is injured or dies as a result of this. it's only a matter of time! instead of allocating a huge sum of your budget to pay your attorney's why not step up and do the right thing and actually resolve this issue? 4 recalls for this model and year is pitiful. the number of major or re-occurring problems with this car are so extensive that you should be ashamed. i guess it's difficult to associate with the little people when you're sitting on top of the mountain, but remember what got you to that point, your reputation through customer service. we have no problem kicking you off the mountain. hopefully someone will wake up.

I have owned my 2002 toyota sequoia since january of 2002. since then we have had numerous problems with the brakes and now the vsc/abs skid control. for starters the front brake pads and rotors had to be changed and re-surfaced with approximately 30,000 miles on the vehicle. then the same thing again with approximately 60,000 miles. before the second repair i did some research and saw there was a tsb for larger calipers and rotors on the vehicle. this is a classic case of cost cutting and under-engineering to increase profit margins. i went to my local toyota dealership and ask for the repair to be done by toyota at their expense. they would not do this for me. now with approximately 99,000 miles on the car i have a faillure of the vsc/abs skid control. this is going to be a very expensive repair. i want toyota to finally own up to my situation. the vsc/abs problem is very frequent among my year model and deserves a recall. once this system is de-activated by faillure the sequoia becomes less maneuverable and more dangerous to its occupants and all those cars it shares the road with. please join me and do what ou can to make toyota make both the underpowered rotors and calipers and the abs skid control system madatory recall items for the 02 sequoia.

I have a 2002 toyota sequoia limited that has an error message on safety equipment. vehicle stability control (vsc) and abs (anti-lock-brake) system lights are constantly on, causing me concern. i see toyota initiated a recall on the 2003 model for this concern, yet not on my model year? i see numerous blogs with this concern as i search for solutions. this was a very expensive vehicle that i purchased due to the reputation of this company for building safe automobiles, i am disappointed in toyota's lack of response. please help if you have the ability/authority. thank you *tr

I purchased a new 2002 toyota sequoia in april of 2002. in january of 2004, i was on the new jersey turnpike and when i went to stop my vehicle, my brake pedal went all the way to the floor and i was luckily able to get into the shoulder and finally get the vehicle stopped without hitting anyone. it appeared to me that the master cylinder might have malfunctioned. the truck was towed to a toyota dealer and they could not find anything wrong with the vehicle. when i picked up the vehicle, it appeared as though the brake pedal was back into its normal position but the dealer could not explain why. during the week of february 12, 2010 this same problem occurred twice and i was almost involved in two separate accidents. i took the truck to the toyota dealer and once again the computer and other indicator lights were not showing any problems. after several hours of sitting there the brakes returned to their normal position just like before. i then took the mechanic for a ride in a back lot of the dealership and was able to make them fail once again. after this occurrence, the brakes never returned to their normal positions. i left the truck at the dealership for them to investigate. the mechanic said that there were no known problems in this area and he said after talking to several toyota engineers that it could be a number of things: 1)master cylinder 2)brake booster 3)brake actuator 4)computer the mechanic and the engineers felt that is was probably the brake actuator so i went ahead with the repair. but they were not 100% sure that this was the problem. but they did agree that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. the brakes of course are working. i talked to several other mechanics and they have said that toyota knows that these actuators are bad but are not doing anything about it. they also mentioned that the vsc/ecu computer modules are a defect as well. *tr

We own a 2002 toyota sequoia, and in september of 2008, 4 lights came lit on the dashboard of our suv. they are the vsc, vsc trac, brake, and the abs light. we took the car to 3 toyota dealers here in cincinnati and they are all saying that the skid control ecu with actuator needs to be replaced, which will cost roughly $2500.00 to have the dealer do the repairs. after getting online, i found that there are very many toyota owners who are experiencing the same problems and that the nhtsa is pressing toyota to recall this computer system. as such, i wanted to make the nhtsa aware of the problems we are experiencing as well. i was told by the dealer that we could drive the car but we would just not have our abs. the computer has been out on this vehicle for over a year now. *tr

While driving a 2002 toyota sequoia sr5 2 wheel drive suv near the end of march 2009, the trac off, vsc trac, brake and abs warning lights simultaneously came on. i was traveling approximately 55 mph on a dry road at night in heavy traffic. i moved off the highway to check the manual which emphasized the possible seriousness of each light. it said to contact a toyota dealer. i called earnhardt toyota in mesa arizona who finally worked on the vehicle several days later for the vsc/trac/brake/abs problem, and a front brake vibration/pulsation. no help on the pulsation problem since i was told i needed to turn the rotors again. on the vehicle stability control/traction control/anti-lock braking system/brake warning lights, the service associate offered that it was a common problem, could be caused by a loose gas cap or an expensive computer (in the thousands of dollars). he sated that no codes were set other than a low voltage which could be caused by a bad battery or corroded connection. i cleaned the battery terminals completely, checked the battery, and made sure the gas cap was tight. the warning lights now come on at some point every time i drive the sequoia. earnhardt toyota told me it should not affect the actual braking systems. how do they know that? being told of a false continuous or intermittent safety warning light can lull one into a questionable sense of safety. these lights and safety systems need to work reliably without having toyota just say they know about this common problem. does it affect actual vehicle stability control and emergency braking? on numerous internet sites, i find this same problem is mentioned frequently. also a large number of complaints are on file now with the nhtsa. i rely on the warning lights and their underlying systems to work as advertised, but toyota now makes me doubt that reliance. does there have to be a large body count for nhtsa to order a recall to fix this well known safety problem? *tr

When braking at high speeds, you can feel front brake vibrate. i took the car to dealership, they stated that there is a technical service bulletin for this issue, but it is not a recall. they are aware that the brake system is too small to handle the load of the vehicle and will only rectify (by upgrading entire braking system) if it is still under manufacturer's warranty. my rotors are warped because of this and i can't afford $4800 to fix their poor workmanship (design). help me hold them responsible for this potential safety issue! *tr

During the past few months 'vsc trac ,vsc off, slip or skid, abs, lights is going off while driving at low speeds like making turns and trying to accelerate from stop, even though the pavement is dry this happens every time ever since, brakes automatically apply causing the car to cut off or prevent the car from accelerating thus results in not able to control the car, there were instances that making turns is very dangerous due to the fact that the vehicle behind you can hit you due to the fact that failure to accelerate when needed because the abs/vsc systems override you from accelerating by pressing the gas pedal, this seems to be a common complaint in online forums like edmunds.com tudrasolutions.com, and there was a discussion in there that someone's car with the vsc failure caught on fire, pls investigate. *nm

I have a 2002 toyota sequoia sr5 4x4 and my abs, brake, vcs, trac lights on my dashboard remain on. i have researched this problem on www.edmunds.com and on www.tundrasolutions.com and appears to a common problem for owners of 2000-2003 sequoia models. my 2002 has had several recalls that dealt with brakes and suspension. it appears that when the brake recall was conducted they did not upgrade other parts of the braking system including computer sensors/modules. i believe this is a safety related defect to these model years that should be covered by toyota. what i read on the above websites is that toyota has charged owners thousands of dollars to repair this defect when it should be a free repair. *nm

2002 toyota sequoia with severe front end vibration on braking while vehicle had approximately 35000 miles. dealer found rotor warping and changed disc brake pads and turnedrotor. problem recurred in vehicle now with 56000 miles and had to replace disc pads again and turned rotor to minimum safety standard. first occurrence at 35000 miles covered by warranty, this most recent episode had to pay for. was told the vehicle is a very heavy one and not unusual to require frequent brake pad replacement and rotor replacement. i feel this is a safety hazard as the vibration can come on unexpectedly and initially was very severe during the 35000 mile dealer service but noticed a very slight vibration most recently and therefore brought into dealership before the problem was overt. i also believe this is an engineering flaw in which brake pads/rotor mismatch causes premature wear and potential safety and handling problems during sudden braking. have contacted manufacturer who has filed a complaint number but was told to not expect any response. *jb

I took the 2002 toyota sequoia in for a routine maintenance to the dealer, performance toyota in la vista, ne and was told that the joints were recalled. the vehicle was performing well up to that time. after the service, two days later the skid light and the vsc (variable skid control) lights came on and after restarting the suv, went off. now the brake system is malfunctioning and the vsc is disabled. a week prior to the service the system worked just fine on the same route that i take to pick up my son while it was raining. there is a significant reduction in the vehicle control. what makes this problem even worse is that there is no indication of a system failure after the initial indicators have reset. (i.e. the lights came on and went off permanently) it was a fortnight later in the rain that the vehicle spun out of control and we realized that the vsc system was malfunctioning. researching the problem, i find that there are many other owners experiencing the same thing. the dealer says that the responsibility to fix the problem is that of the owners. there is a need for this to be taken care of by toyota corporation in the form of a recall as the main braking system is affected on so many vehicles. *tr

I bought a toyota certified 2002 toyota sequoia in late '04. roughly 6 months into ownership - my vsc (traction control) system began having intermittent issues - 2 full-day trips to the dealership made no results - the dealership was unable to recreate the problem. another 4-6 months later, the vsc failed completely, and after investigation, i find the issue is very common and very expensive to fix. the failure leaves me without abs and without vsc (two of the reasons i bought the car i did) and at an increased risk of having an accident, as without functional abs the brakes lock quite easily. calls to my dealership have left me with the impression the fix will be in the $2000 neighborhood, and i haven't yet come up with that. the incident date is approximate to the start of the issues. *jb

While on vacation in florida, our 2002 toyota sequoia just froze up. it would not move. luckily, no one was hurt, however, when the tow truck finally came, the only was to get it up on the flatbed was to drive it on backwards. it turns out all the bolts were loose on the calipers. the only people that had worked on my car was the toyota dealer after a complaint i had at 15,000 miles. i have since had my toyota dealer look at it, and they serviced it again after receiving service bulletins on the subject. get those brakes looked at every time you service your vehicle.*ak

The brakes on my 2002 toyata sequoia is failing or has failed. there are several complaints on the websites and toyota have some service bulletins out. i consider this a very serious saftey problem and would like to see an investigation and possible recall on this vehicle.

At approximately 8000 miles and just 3 months since new, the front whells started to vibrate during braking and dark soot deposits seen on front wheel rims. vehicle taken to dealer for service check and was told rotors were warped from overheating and was a known problem. dealer installed brake upgrade package (larger design brake calipers and pads) and turned brake rotors offered free of charge by toyoya. vehicle has since been driven for 3 months with new upgrade package installed and front wheels are again vibrating same as original design problem.

Problem with 02 sequoia where brakes vibrate the car, and stopping ability is diminished. problem to occurs when brakes become heated. (driving down a long hill in second gear, using the brakes to keep the vehicle under control when i would get to the bottom of the hill, the vehicle would vibrate and the brakes would loose some stopping ability. i would be unable to make an emergency stop in this condition. i took it to the dealer on 9/22/04 who stated that the rotors were warped & the pads bad. not covered under warranty. i explained that this vehicle is for long trips & vacations. little use of brakes in these driving conditions. i explained that i have another vehicle with over 236,000 miles, and that i know how to use my brakes. (95 nissan pathfinder with original rotors) he then stated that the sequoia is a much heavier vehicle and to compare them isn't the same, and it will take more to stop the sequoia. i agreed but stated that the sequoia should have a brake capable of stopping it, especially since i am supposed to be able to tow a load of up to 6000 lbs. i contacted toyota corporate. the person there stated there was a tsb for this & the tundra concerning the brakes, and the dealer should have corrected it. i informed her that the dealer had written no tsbs on the workorder highlighted in yellow. she told me the dealer will correct the problem. after 3 days i contacted toyota again, and they put me on hold. they said the svc manager had been out & would call later. later the dealer called and stated that out of good will he would correct the problem. the following day i went in to have it fixed. went from 4 bad rotors & brakes, to only 2 rotors were bad. they resurfaced the front rotors. after the repair was made, i took it to a hill that i have to drive down in 2nd gear, a few miles long. at the bottom of the hill, the brakes start loosing their stopping abilities. the vibrations were gone, but the heating & stopping problem remains. *ak

Excessive wear on front brake pads. at 35000 miles the front brakes were worn down to 10%; the rear pads were only worn down to 70%. the dealer did not think this is a problem, but it would appear that the rear brakes are doing no work to stop the car. i have a 2002 toyota sequoia, sr5, 4x4.*ak

Brakes/seal i brought the truck in for 15,000 mile checkup. this is from the repair report: oil leak from rear axle seal was leaking. removed both side axle shaft assemblies due to one side was leaking worse than the other. replaced axle seals on axle housing inside. also needed to replace rear pads and turn rear rotors due to grease build up on surfaces from axle seals leaking. this caused lubricant/fluid to coat the break pads providing no friction; no rear breaks. i spoke to dealer at colonial toyota and they mentioned that they had heard of similar incidents but had never worked on one before. also said it was a factory defect that could be fixed. *nlm

I have 2002 toyota sequoia suv and in 78,000 miles i have had to resurface or replace the front rotors six different times, which averages about 12,000 for each rotor failure. the failure is severe warping of the rotor which cause violent shaking and steering problems over 45 miles per hour. the dealership wants me to pay for it each time ( out of warranty)but i feel it is a design flaw and a safety hazard and am surprised they have not issued a safety recall. *jb

In august, 2005 my sequoia began to shake at the steering wheel. i took it in to a local repair shop. they replaced the front brakes. they informed me that the rear rotors would soon need to be replaced. in may, the rear rotors were and entire brakes and pads were replaced at a toyota dealership. the sequoia still shakes badly. i took it back to the first repair center, which has informed me that the front rotor needs to be replaced. the shaking is so bad that it is hard to steer. it has caused the tires to become out of alignment and i have since bought four new tires. i noticed that lots of tundra owners have the same problem and i have encountered two people in my town with the same problem with their sequoia. *nm

I have a 2002 toyota sequoia limited. i bought it used in sept/2004. in may/2005 at 29,000 mi i replaced the brake pads. in aug/2005 at 32,000 i had the rotors resurfaced. in oct/2005 i had the rotors and brake pads replaced. the rotors were warped. before all three repairs the car vibrated during braking on hills. toyota dealer is giving us the same run around that i keep reading in other complaints on the internet. we're waiting to hear back from a toyota rep about why they don't stand behind their vehicle when there are so many documented cases of brake problems on this truck. *nm

Between 5000 and 10000 miles a brake squeal (rear passenger side) began. during 10000 mile service the service dept at the dealership checked the brake and cleaned. the squeal stopped for about 4 days. during 15000 mile check the service department checked the brake and cleaned. again the squeal stopped for about 4 days. during the 20000 mile check the cleaning was performed again. after about 4 days the squeal returned. i am driving a new sienna with a terrible brake squeal. good advertisement for toyota !!! the service dept says it can't be fixed. i think on a new vehicle the brake should be replaced. *jb

My wife and i got our 2002 toyota sequoia brand new in 2002. just this past week, the vsc and abs light comes on. we took it to the local toyota dealer and found not only do those lights need replacing but also the brake booster. total cost about $1900. i've done research on this problem on the web and found on a website, tundrasolutions.com, there were a number of people with the same problem. anywhere from 50k to 80k miles on their 2002 sequoia and the same problem happens. when we took it to toyota, they said that was a very rare problem for a car with that mileage. toyota, the manufacture, or the local dealer would not take any responsibility for the parts and that it wasn't faulty parts. we got it fixed today. the local dealer knocked off 25% of the price. we feel like this is a problem toyota needs to pay in full. if this many are having this problem, then there's a problem. *jb
