Traveling home at normal speed the vsc/trac lights came on and the vehicle began vibrating and making a grinding noise. after stopping on the side of the road, i turned the vehicle off and on to possibly reset the vsc/trac. it seemed to work briefly but it started to do it again. we attempted to take the vehicle to the store and the problem started again. we noted audible alerts and the vsc/trac lights illuminating, grinding from what seemed to be the passenger side front tire. he had to pull off to the side of the road; however, found it difficult to control the vehicle. the speed was estimated at 35-40 mph, dry conditions with no obvious road conditions or issues. this problem had been noted several time randomly over the past two years, but has seemingly been resolved by turning the vehicle off and back on. this was the first time that the issue has persisted, and the increased difficulty in steering.

My vehicle was recalled for frame rot. toyota would not buy the vehicle back. instead they spent $11,000.00 +/- repairing the vehicle and giving it back to me. the recall was for all of the northeast and upper midwest. sand and salt use on the roads causes the frames to rot and make the vehicle unsafe to drive. i want toyota be forced to buy the vehicles back instead of repairing them. i know my local dealership has done over a dozen recalls.

While on the highway, suddenly there was a loud grinding noise in the front end of the car, the car lost all power, and the vsc alarm went off and the vsc dashboasd lights were flashing. this lasted for about 30 seconds and then stopped. this has happened again and again at all different speeds and now the vsc lights are on all the time and the grinding happens intermittenly.

I have been having the same problem with my 02' sequoia. at first the vsc trac light/ vsc off would come on & go off after turning engine off. then it started staying on along w/ abs light & brake. all the lights continue to stay on. my vehicle only has 126,800 miles which i consider less to be having an issue at this time. i'm a mother of three in which this is my primary vehicle that carries my precious cargo. i really do think that toyota should issue some kind of recall in regards to this matter, it clearly looks likes this is a problem w/ other sequoia owners & they need to stand behind there products. especially when it involves the safety of lives. it would be great if someone could help me w/ this matter.

Frame of vehicle is rusted and very thin in areas. the suspension and rear axle housing is rusting also. frame is very close to developing holes and is de-laminating i believe it is unsafe to drive and toyota will not do anything about it.

Was driving on the interstate in the left hand lane. tried to merge into the right hand lane and noticed a car in my blind spot so i went back into the left lane. however, my vsc/abs lights went on, the car beeped, made a heavy grinding noise, and then, with much force, veered hard to the right. i tried to steer it back to the left hand lane, the other drivers saw me wrestling with my steering wheel and the car started to fishtail so fortunately they stayed well behind me. the car became impossible to control and steer and braking did not help. despite my best efforts to control the car, apply the brakes, steer out of the skidding and fishtailing, my car then went over into the right lane, over to the shoulder, and then the wheel sunk into the grass next to the shoulder where the vehicle rolled over several times. my son and i were airlifted to the trauma unit. i suffered 2 broken vertebrae in the c area of my neck and a compressed disc in the t region of my spine, concussion, cuts, bruises, glass embedded near my eye, as well as a splenic aneurysm. my son had a concussion, wound on the head that required stitches, cuts, bruises and a sprained ankle. my son and i were both unconscious at the accident scene.my two daughters had minor cuts, sprains, and bruises. we were fortunate to have come out of this alive and not to have hit anyone else. i am still in a neck brace and undergoing medical treatment. toyota needs to recall this model as soon as possible. we could have all been killed. unfortunately, my car was totaled and there was no black box in this model. i will never buy a car from toyota again. however, for the safety of others, i do hope they recall this model as i would hate for others to suffer what we had to suffer, or worse.

Driving on dry road and vsc engages. can not use brakes. continues to do this for a few minutes then stop, then engage again. happened in oct. 2011 had a steering sensor replaced advised by toyota and it is doing it again. this is very unsafe because i had no control of vehicle while this is engaged. i was going maybe 10 mph when it happened. no warning just engages.

We have been experiencing an issue w/ the vehicle skid control light keeps going on and off. at one point, we lost power to car, while trying to accelerate. toyota dealeership is unsure what the issue is. this has been going on for over a year. i found a recall related to vsc for 2003 sequoias but toyota says our sequoia is not included in this recall even though the symptoms are very identical!! instead the local dealership wants to try to replace some computer chip (that would cost us thousands of dollars) but they are not guaranteeing that this is even the cause or will resolve the issue!!! they are saying it can be this computer or it can be that computer .. and replacing each is worth a few 1000s but they don't know which is causing the vsc light to go on and off!!

The vehicle was examined at our local toyota dealer on 1/5/2012 because of making a grinding noise and shaking with acceleration at speeds above 20 mph. it was found to have extensive rust damage to the frame with a large rust hole in the right front area at the sway bar bushing bracket. the rear differential housing was rusted and leaking fluid, the right and left sway bars were broken, both front brake calipers were stuck and the rotors badly rusted. repairs for the frame alone were estimated at over $10,000 with more than that amount to take care of the other issues. this sequoia has been well maintained on a regular schedule, washed regularly and kept at night in a garage. the body and interior are in excellent condition. the car has only 76,000 miles on the odometer. it was quite a shock to go from a car we relied upon to carry us safely in winter weather to one which has had to be abandoned for scrap. i understand that frame rust issues have been a serious problem for many toyota models including the tacoma and tundra resulting in recalls. the sequoia needs to be added to this list.

To start, i want to stress that i do not understand why there is no recall for this problem. the vsc trac, abs, skid control and brake lights all came on and stayed on as of the above date. prior to that date, the vsc trac and skid lights would come on for no reason, but would go off upon turning off and restarting the car. when the lights came on and stayed on, i read the owner's manual and based on that information, was worried the the brakes would not work, so i called the dealer. when i spoke to someone in the dealer's repair shop about the problem before i brought the car in, he said that the warning lights meant that my abs system was gone and it would cost $2,000 to fix. he said that it was not covered by warranty or a recall. so, i took it to the nearest auto repair shop to my home, that i had used previously. they checked the warning lights with the computer diagnostic and could not find anything wrong. then, i took it to the dealer, and they checked the warning lights and said that the problem was low voltage with the battery. i had recently bought a new battery, so i took the car back to the first place, which checked the battery and said it was fine. so i received conflicting messages from the dealer. however, since other owners with my year/model toyota have had safety problems with the same issue and toyota has the same problem with the 2003 model and they have issued a recall, i believe it is a safety issue. i can't understand why no recall has been issued for the 2002 year. please look at all of the complaints about this exact issue from so many consumers (and i'm sure plenty of others who did not take the time to report it) and act before someone is seriously injured or killed!!!!!!

Vsc light, trac off light and check engine light all came on at the same time. i took vehicle to autozone and they checked the computer with the result error 5 cylinder misfire, for the check engine light, the other 2 warning lights they could not give me any advice on.

Failed components: premature frame rot i'm an owner of a 2002 toyota sequoia located in the northeast us. i recently learned that this vehicle will not pass state safety inspection, due to rust holes in the frame. i take very good care of this vehicle, keeping it washed especially in winter months. the body is in spotless condition with no rust. toyota blames the heavy use of salt in the ne. this is no excuss...i have a 1990 minivan that is garaged along with and driven similar to my toyota sequoia and the minivan's frame has very little rust. toyota needs to recall and/or repair sequoia's as they did tacoma's and tundra's. i depend upon this vehicle for towing, but have also been instructed not to tow anything, until the frame is fixed or replaced. your investigation and assistance with the resolution to this serious safety issue will be greatly appreciated. thank you for your time and consideration.

2002 toyota sequoia brake slippery and shake the vehicle, then both vsc and trac off warning lights are on.

I was driving down the highway and out of no where i started skidding and my steering wheel started shaking. there was nothing on the road, the weather was hot and dry, and i wasn't switiching lanes. simultaneously the vsc trac and trac off lights came on. my first instinct was to apply the brake, and upon doing so the abs kicked in. i pulled off the highway to let the car rest and so that i could check everything out. everything appeared fine, so i continued on my journey. the lights stayed on for the remainder of the 50 mile trip, but no further incident occurred. when i started the car the next morning, the lights were off. i took the car to the dealership and they told me i had an ecu skid control failure. upon further investigation i found that this had happened at least four times prior with this vehicle, starting when the car was only two years old and had approximately 35,000 miles. all four times the car had been taken to the dealership for inspection.

'vsc' and 'vsc/trac off' lights illuminated and will not go off. apparently a very frequently encountered and reported problem (not the lights alone, but the underlying problems causing thr lights) among 2002 toyota sequoias, but nothing voluntarily done about it by toyota. should be a recall based on its common occurrence on numerous sequoia years, but no culpability admitted yet. cost of repairs estim. at > $2,000 w/ no guarantee that it won't happen again. *tr
