Received a letter from toyota for a limited service campaign, for rusting of the frame. i took my toyota to koons toyota in annapolis, md. they called me the next day and said it failed for rust. there was a hole in my frame and toyota woud replace the frame at no cost to me. then they called me to tell me it would cost $6,400.00 to replace everything under the vehicle, because it was so rusted out that when they took the parts off they would crumble. two days later they called and told me it would cost $6,900.00 to replace parts. they called last night and said it would cost me $7,845.00 and they could not guarantee the price would not be higher.they sent me pictures of my frame and there is a large hole in the frame. my question is shouldn't i get my truck back in working condition without me paying for anything? i contacted toyota in ca. and talked to the rust specialist, and he said thay would not pay for my parts. my husband and i are retired and live on a fixed income. we can not afford to pay for the parts. the truck has been paid for once, why should i take out a loan for a truck that has been paid for. the dealer also asked us to come pick up my truck if i would not authorize to pay for the parts. when i picked up my truck today, they said if anything happened to the truck while i was driving it home, they would not be responsible, because i didn't get it fixed. please make toyota recall these rusted trucks back. the rusted frame also includes tundras, because they use the same frame. thank you.

The vsc trac light has been on (showing it is off), along with the check engine light. occasionally the brake light comes on too while driving. today the abs light came on. the only code that is coming up is for a weak o2 sensor.

Every interior door handle has broken at one time or another. i have had all of them replaced at least once (at a cost of $175.00 per handle) and i have to replace one for a second time. the handles are made of plastic that cracks easily and eventually breaks. all of the handles were broken during the course of normal use. no undue or excessive force was exerted when the handles were broken. when the handles are broken, it is impossible to exit the vehicle unless someone opens the door from the outside. if my family and i were involved in an accident and needed to get out of the vehicle quickly, they may not be able to get out in time. this is not only expensive, frustrating and inconvenient, it can lead to a deadly situation. there is no reason that equipment as important as door handles should ever break under normal circumstances.

While driving my 2003 sequoia on vacation, a part fell off from the bottom of the car. we took the car to a local mechanic who raised it on a lift and said that the part was the protective plate covering the gas tank. it had eroded off. he said worse than that, the entire frame was rusting and rotting out and felt that the car would be unsafe within the next year or 2.

I just purchased an 03 toyota sequoia and was unaware of a problem that is very known by many sequoia owners. i was let known about the severe undercarriage rust problem these trucks have by someone at a gas station who owned one and had to get rid of there's because they were scared for the saftey of there family while driving the truck. when i looked at my trucks undercarriage i could not believe the amount of rust that i saw. i did some research and saw some of the pictures of other sequoia owners and was schocked at what i saw. another thing that shocked me was that people were saying that when they went back to toyota and told them of the problem they said that there's nothing that they can do. until someone gets killed! there are quit a bit of important components that are rusting under my truck. the rear axel, all the bolts are completely covered in rust. transmission mounts, suspension parts. i bought this truck thinking it was a safe and reliable truck. i hope this matter will be investigated as to why all of these trucks have th same problems.

Continuous problems with abs vsc check engine lights. these lights have gone on several times through the last 9 years, 90,000 miles.we have brought this vehicle to toyota dealers as well as mechanics many times. we have replaced the yaw rate sensor, oxygen sensor and were quoted a price of 2500 to replace another sensor/computer. other times they cannot read the codes in order to make a diagnosis. a few months later the lights are back on. many other 03 sequoia owners have had similar problems. we feel that there is a major defect in these sequoias that toyota has not taken responsibility for. this is a safety issue/concern.they prefer to tell us the vehicle is not under warranty anymore.

Frame shows signs of extreme rust, especially at all weld points. many integral components of the frame have multiple layers of rust through. the rear axle torsion bars have heavy rust and appear to show diminished diameter. the rear axle drain bolt looks like it will fall off if an attempt is made to check fluid. i have posted some pictures at http://www.autobuff.com/toyota-sequoia for your review.

Took 2003 sequoia to baierl dealership on august 26, 2011 in cranberry, pa for 130,000 mile check up. mechanic noticed hole' in frame behind front right wheel. upon further inspection with another mechanic there are several areas where frame is rusted through behind front wheels. toyota says this issue is not covered under warranty. upon investigation on this site and others, it seems that model years 2000-2003 tacoma's, tundra's and sequoia's all have this issue. toyota has extended the warranty to address this issue on tacoma's and tundra's, but not sequoia's for some reason. the vehicle will not pass inspection now and toyota themselves have said i would have to take it to a body shop where it could possibly be repaired, but no guarantees. i am looking for a resolution to this issue.

I own a 2003 toyota sequoia with a severly rusted frame. it has aprox. 16 long rust hole in it aprox 1-2 wide, just under drivers floor at bottom of frame, right where the rear transmission crossmember attaches to frame. i have owned the vehicle since brand new (purchased in sept. of 2002) and vehicle has just over 63,000 miles. vehicle has never been involved in an accident. i made an appointment at local toyota dealer where vehicle was purchased and serviced and the toyota fts inspected it and took several pictures and documented it on 5/5/2011 and reported findings to factory and deemed my vehicle unsafe to drive due to perforation in frame. i was instructed by toyota fts to contact toyota corporate headquaters and see what can/will be done by toyota. after 3 calls over a 2 week period toyota told me that they would do nothing to correct this concern although the tundra has the same issue with rusting frames and toyota is replacing them under an extension of the warranty and both vehicles use the same chassis type and are made in same plant. upon research of this issue (via the internet) i find that i am not the only one with this issue and toyota seems to be treating all of it's sequoia owners in the same fashion.please look into this issue before someone who does not know their frame has rusted and possibly breaks causing loss of control possibly injuring or killing it's driver and or passengers. toyota knows of the problem and their failure to properly protect their frame from rusting through due to enviromental conditions that are seen in certain parts of the united states (as stated by one of the customer service rep's that i had spoken to) when refering to the tundra and i feel that toyota is once again trying to exclude itself from any problems to the sequoia. this issue needs to be addressed as it was on the tundra and include the sequoia.

While driving along at city street speeds, during dry weather, on paved roads, my vsc trac and trac off lights come on. no other warning lights come on. then a buzzer sounds for about 3 seconds. then at the same time, a strange grinding sound comes from underneath the car, and the brakes seem to start working for no reason. i quickly pull over, turn off the car. i check the outside of the car and see no indication of running over anything. i then start the car and all the lights are back to normal (off). this happens about 2-3 times a month, for about a month or 2 now. i have not been able to determine any problems. *tr

I provided the following information to consumer reports and they suggested i forward the information to you: i subscribe to mycarstats car report advisory service. they provide info and maintenance reports on vehicles like mine, 2003 toyota sequoia. there are repeated reports of failures to the vsc/abs/esc system. in some cases the brakes were applied without driver input creating a dangerous situation. these incidents seem to be more prevalent when the vehicles have higher mileage. it also seems the dealers are milking the car owners by doing band-aid fixes to the system until the warranty goes out. in some cases the repair cost exceeds $2500. this is a known problem that toyota has chosen to ignore and owners have been crying for a recall but obviously they have been crying to the wrong people - toyota. can you get involved before someone gets hurt or killed? maybe that has already happened and toyota is keeping it quite. i also noticed that you have already received several complaints about this problem. *tr the consumer stated he has not experienced a failure, but he just wanted it to be known that there is a problem. updated 04/07/10.*jb
