I'm the original owner of my 2004 toyota sequoia vehicle. i noticed that my brake light indicator light was illuminated on my dashboard. my first thought was that my emergency brake was not completely disengaged. i pulled over to the side of the road and checked. the brake was off. i started my car and the brake light was still illuminated but it eventually turned off so i assumed that my emergency brake may have been slightly engaged when i was driving. a few days later the brake light was illuminated on my dashboard, again. it went off by itself but it intermittently went on and off over a couple weeks time. i took it to toyota carlsbad and they diagnosed the problem. the trouble codes came back as p1247 and p1223. these codes indicated that the abs skid control system malfunctioned which caused my anti-lock system to completely stop working. i had a new abs skid control computer installed at a cost of $1,035.00. this shouldn't have occurred with only 39,500 miles on my vehicle. i went on line and discovered that there have been several 2003, 2004 and 2005 toyota sequoia vehicles that had to have the abs system replaced. i'm hoping that toyota will mandate a recall to have the 2003,2004 and 2005 toyota sequoia's abs systems checked and replace any that are malfunctioning. *tr

Brake light will occasionally come on and stay on. i took it to a repair shop and no code could be found and the light had gone out. i had new tires put on, brake pads replaced, and rotors turned.brake light continued to occasionally come on. recently the brakes started making a grinding noise. i took it to toyota and was told the following codes: c1203, c1223, and c1247. recommended brake booster and skid control computer be replaced at a cost of over $2k. research shows that toyota knows about this repeated problem and has not issued a recall on the 2004 although they did on the 03. *tr

2004 toyota sequoia occasionally the brake light and vsc (vehicle stability control) lights come on. when this happens the abs system physically malfunctions and the vehicle becomes a uncontrollable hazard. the toyota dealer said the issue is a internal malfunction in the brake booster/master cylinder assembly as well as the skid control ecu. (the total cost of repair is $2657.00). i have read numerous complaints about this issue and the dealer admitted knowledge of this hazard and said it was a common problem but toyota is not correcting the issue or offering any assistance in correcting this hazard. these vehicles are unsafe to be on the road. i have no choice but to have the recommended repairs done, but this is a major issue/defect for toyota and the responsibility of this safety issue should fall to the manufacturer. *tr

Vsc control light is on and vehicle has less traction control, causing me to drive it slow and very careful to avoid loss of control. the sequoia model one year previous had an issue, i believe the 2004 model does as well. also brake replacement occurs to frequently. i replace my breaks make repairs 2-3 yr. the same occured with my toyota forerunner. toyota needs to beef up their breaking systems. it is a well documented problem for years and years.

The vsc track, trac off and emergency light of my 2004 toyota sequoia, came on, on about october, 2009. i took it to the toyota dealer, they told me that i had to replace, oxygen sensors, a new battery, and skid contro computer. total more than $2000.00. i was told that if i don't replace the skid control computer, my break system can fail and consequently loose control of the vehicle. it sounded like a major defect and expensive repair and i was puffered as to why there wasn't any recall on such problem. after the car was serviced, the vsc track, track off, and emergency light came on again in less than a week.. this time the computer told them that :there was air in the fuel system. this is their remedy for me: i need to close and seal the fueling cap after each fueling. i do seal the fuel cap everytime after refuel. i don't recall that i ever miss one time. they reset the system and sent me off. i was wondering if the the first repair was ever necessary, maybe the skid control computer never failed. it was just air in the fuel system.

In oct. of 2007 the emergency brake light, trac light, and vsc lights activated on our 2004 toyota sequoia. we brought our suv in for brake service. on 8/4/08, the same thing happened with the added element of a loud noise and the brakes engaging in a very abrupt manner. this spontaneous braking could potentially result in a rear end or roll over situation should the wrong conditions exist. we brought the vehicle in to a nearby toyota dealer. the service adivsor informed us that our vsc computer needed replacement. the replacement would cost $1252.00 for the part alone with a total cost of $1400.00 to address this malfunction. research of related problems revealed that the vsc computer seems to be going bad on 2001 and newer tundras and sequoias. we contacted regional customer service, who in turn referred us back to the dealer corporate customer service representative. the corporate customer service representative conducted an investigation and indicated that an out of warranty goodwill repair was declined due to the fact that we were not loyal toyota customers. we are the original owners of the vehicle, prior to this toyota i drove a toyota 4x4 for over 150,000 miles. this vehicle is the primary vehicle used to transport my wife and children. i realize that vehicle skid control is not a feature on most vehicles, and it's purpose is to maintain control in a skid situation, but at this point the fact that it is malfunctioning is a liability rather than a benefit. *tr

My wife was driving vehicle and she had noticed a bang or thump coming from the car. she had noticed prior that the brake warning light had come sporadically. the trac, vsc, and abs lights came on and have stayed on since. the front brake rotors have been turned twice since then because for whatever reason the rotors are warping. the front brakes grind now and the only way to stop it, is to turn the rotors. checked into the repair, but unable to afford $2,000 to fix a known problem with this vehicle. we love the vehicle but hate the problem that we are having and disappointed with toyota. *tr

I was driving my 2004 toyota sequoia suv and had to proceed with a sudden stop and the braking system suffered a malfunction which resulted in last of braking preassure and some kind of strange sound. this was almost an accident, i was lucky not to hit the car in front. i changed the brakes, and had my suv inspected in the toyota dealer just to find out that there is a big problem with tundra, sequoias , and land cruisers from 2003 to 2005 with the electronic stability control module which affect the brake system and the traction control system, aprox when car reach 45,000 miles and no recall have been made. the repair part cost 1,500 up to 2,300 dollars. i found hundred of customer complains with brake and control system in http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint//2004. *tr

My 2004 sequoia has a problem with skid control ecu. this computer module controls the abs brakes. per the dealer, we will lose the power to the abs if it failed. i have the break lights showing up on my dashboard. per my research online alot of toyota sequoias starting at year 2002 have this problem. this seem to be manufacture problem. per my dealer, this is not covered under the powertrain warranty. this quote below is from owners manual the vehicle skid control system helps provide integrated control of the systems such as anti-lock brake system, traction control, engine control, etc. this system automatically controls the brakes and engine to help prevent the vehicle from skidding when cornering on a slippery road or surface or operating steering wheel abruptly. please investigate this matter, as many people driving these vehicles have issues, and is very costly to fix, minimum of $1500. this can cause major accidents, cause of death. *tr

Began with e-brake light coming on while driving and only turning off when car turned off. took to mechanic who could not tell why this was happening. next while driving and slowing to make a turn my abs brakes engaged at slow speeds. the vsc, trac off and e-brake lights all cam on. i took to dealership who was aware of the problem after looking at my skid control computer that have codes c1223 abs control system malfunction, c1247 stroke sensor, c1310 active booster solenoid. they also found a tsb br006-06 control computer logic change. the dealership initially wanted me to pay $3600 to replace, they then said they would give me a one time good faith replacement i picked my car up on friday night with a new computer installed, by monday at noon it happened all over again. i am currently trying to get a tow back to the dealership, who will not take my calls. not sure what to do next...... i've been lucky twice, not sure i will be lucky a third time. this is a significant safety hazard to my children, myself and others on the road around these cars. *tr

*******2004 toyota sequoia ltd vsc computer failure, wheel lockup on left********* brake light, vsc and trac light all came on. i was driving approx. 20 mph and the left front wheel locked up and the car pulled sharply to the left. the brake pedal went to the floor and i lost brake pedal effectiveness. i turned the car off and restarted it and all lights went out and brake feel and effectiveness appears ok. i took the car straight to the dealer for inspection. for the last 2 years the brake light would come on and stay on and when i turned off the car and restarted it the light would go off. for 2 years my local dealer in butler, pa could not get a failure code. when i took the car for diagnostics, the cause was the ecm part number 89541-oc062 at a cost of about $1377.00. they replaced it at the great dealership in langhorne,pa. i have 55,659 miles on this vehicle. since the repair the brake warning light has come on one time and stayed on, when we restarted the car it went away. i will return to dealer to have this checked again next time it comes on. it seems to me that this lockup of the wheel and loss of braking effectiveness is a real big safety issue on these vehicles. please get back to me to tell me if nhtsa is looking into this situation. thank you! *tr

I own a 2004 toyota sequoia. i took it in for new tires, with balancing and an alignment. they also did brake work on the front. it needed caliper pins and the rotors were turned. it had 47,481 miles on it. when my wife left the dealership there was a failure of the vsc (vehicle stability control) system. the system never once before malfunctioned until after the service at the toyota dealership. it is clear that the dealer messed something up. they claim they did nothing to cause it. we talked the head manager of the dealership. the manager denied that it could be in any way their fault. is it possible that the service caused the failure? i don't know what toyota has their mechanics do but someone needs to do a full investigation. the vehicle now is a hazard to drive. i currently can't afford the $1500 dollars to replace the computer. could it be related to the kind of tires put on or dust or metal in the sensors? failure codes are c0210 (right rear wheel speed sensor signal malfunction, c1223 (abs control system malfunction) , and c1310 (active booster solenoid). the sequoia's vsc light comes on often and the vehicle will not accelerate even when the pedal is pressed all the way to the floor. it has almost caused about 2 bad accidents. we currently drive it but don't rely on it for passing. if the system fails we just have to drive slow and stay in our lane. i do know that toyota knows that this is a huge problem. they also use a different skid control computer in newer models. we need a recall. i have seen many references to this same exact problem. for the safety of our drivers please issue a recall. the manufacturer obviously didn't test the system before it was allowed on the market. *tr

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC - ANTILOCK - ABS WARNING LIGHT

My traction control, skid control, and abs warning lights continued to light up intermittently on my 2004 toyota sequoia. while the warning lights were on, the brakes would suddenly grab, make a terrible noise, then bring the car to a quick and sudden stop. i narrowly avoided 2 different car accidents because of the car suddenly stopping. i took the car to both a toyota dealer and an independent car repair shop specializing in toyota cars. both reported this was a well known problem and that they had to repair this problem on 5 - 6 toyota sequoias per month. the diagnostic codes reported from the car's computer included co215 (lr wheel speed sensor malfunction), co1223 (brake pedal stroke force sensor malfunction), co1247 (abs system malfunction), and co1310 (solenoid circuit malfunction). the repair shop replaced both the abs/skid control ecu and active booster solenoid for a total cost of $2410. if this is a well known problem, why has toyota not implemented a recall for this issue. it is a very dangerous condition affecting a large number of vehicles. *tr
