Our sequoia has started 'lunging' forward upon incidents of heavy braking; for instance, when we brake hard and come to a complete stop, when the pressure is relieved from the brake pedal, the vehicle lunges forward hard- it puts our heads into the headrests and feels like we have been hit from behind; this is both a safety issue and a liability issue as this can cause an accident when braking hard; it's not a throttle issue or a brake issue, but feels more so like the powertrain is slipping or jumping back into gear very hard. our sequoia has approximately 65-66,000 miles; i have also contacted toyota regarding this problem and have not yet received a response. as i review the internet, other sequoia owners have had this problem as well.

The vsc trac light and engine light of my 2005 toyota sequoia is on. when driving the engine seems to hesitate and lurches forward. i was told that i will have to replace my transmission. my car only has 45,000 miles on it and our warranty expired one month ago. my internet research shows that this is a very common problem. a new transmission will cost thousands of dollars and is un-acceptable for such a young car. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 toyota sequoia. the contact was driving approximately 35 mph and approaching a traffic stop. as the contact engaged the brakes, the transmission began to jerk with hesitation. in addition, the vsc off, vsc trac, check engine and brake warning indicators were illuminated. the warning indicators remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. the vehicle was then taken to the dealer where they advised that both the vsc computer and transmission were defective. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 68,000.

Tl* - the contact has a 2005 toyota sequoia. the contact received safety recall 07v013000 on the vehicle, and had 9 different repairs made concerning the same safety recall. the last time the vehicle was repaired was on 10/17/2006. on 10/17/2006 the contact bought a new transmission because the failure could not be diagnosed. the contact stated that there were multiple drive line repairs, and that the car was lunging forward and making a clunking sounds. two days after replacing the engine the contact returned with the vehicle because it was lurching forward and making a clunking noise while being driven. the contact has tried to get the vehicle diagnosed since the new engine without success. *ak

When you take your foot off the gas with the speed of the car betweed 30 to 45 mph, it frequently does not coast. it actually decelerates as though it is stuck in a low gear (rpm is 1600 to 1700 with foot off the gas). it releases in 4 to 6 seconds and then you do coast (rpm now drops to 1100). dealer observed the complaint as we slowed from 45 to 30 mph before the transmission seemed to release and allow the car to coast. dealer has no answer.

When coming to a complete stop and then releasing the brake to accelerate you feel and hear a clunk from the rear. it feels as if you have been hit from behind from another vehicle. this occurs on a daily basis several times a day. contacted toyota in jan 2010 and told this was normal. i took the matter to management in feb 2010 and they had me bring the vehicle in. they found the trans support to be faulty and replaced the crossmember, bolts and insulation. problem continued. took the vehicle back march 2010 and they said it had an updated cross member and bolt so no repairs were made at that time. currently still having the problem and waiting for a return phone call back from management to take the vehicle in. i was told each visit that this is a drive train problem and it cannot be fixed and it is something i will need to live with. i am not happy with this answer and i will take this matter further until the issue is resolved. i paid $30,000 for this vehicle. in the past i had a rearend issue with another vehicle and ended up in an attorney's office with them taking the vehicle back and money in my pocket. i really do not want to have to do this again, but if need be i will be contacting my attorney. i have an extended warranty on my vehicle and feel this should be fully replaced with all new parts.
