VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

I noticed the vsc trac lights stayed on. the vehicle appears to drive fine for a while, then loses power. dealer could not find any codes and reset it. how it does it all the time mostly about the 2 or 3 day after unhooking the battery. after doing my own research online i discovered that many sequoia owners have experienced the same issue, but toyota has refused to do a recall. this issue with vsc trac is a huge safety concern. through my research i discovered that the vehicle could lose power at any time, and many owners state they hear a grinding noise as the vehicle pulls to the right or left. they recalled the 2003, what about us, a friend had a new computer epu put in at $3000 and did it again in 6 months...toyota knows about this and other problems...we need a recall or have it fixed.

The brake light constantly goes on and off. trac off, vsc trac and check engine lights all come on. a loud rattling noise coming from the front end of vehicle and vibration the engine will not accelerate randomly while driving and the trac control light goes on at the same time.

The vsc, trak light and abs lights came on which in turn made the check engine light come on. they stay on continually. at first no code could be found. then dealer stated that the ecu had to be replaced as well as air pump - both totalling over $3000. this is not the only sequoia to have this happen. other years have been recalled so why not the 2005 - or any other year since it seems to be an issue. i emailed and talked to toyota. they have not heard of this problem and can not help with it's solution. last toyota i'll have. *tr

While driving, the brake warning light, vsc off light, and vsc trac light all came on. pulled over and shut engine off. restarted the car and lights were initially off but came right back on as soon as i started driving. had advance auto parts hook computer to it, and it isn't throwing a code at all. *tr

3 incidents in the last 90days, each one while the vehicle was in motion between 15-40mph with 5 passengers and in traffic. on each occasion, the brakes suddenly engaged, causing a loud bang/thunk sound followed by a severe shake in the vehicle. speed & control was drastically reduced to the point of being uncontrollable. within seconds, the vsc trac, vsc off, brake and maintenance lamps illuminated. vehicle was very difficult to drive, as if the brakes were fully engaged. after pulling over, we shutdown the vehicle and let it sit a short period of time, on restarting, all lamps were on, the vehicle was drive-able however, the brakes we still being applied but slightly allowing the vehicle to move but on release of the accelerator, the vehicle slowed rapidly. after dropping off vehicle to a local non-dealer service center on each of the first 2 incidents, the codes were no-longer active and the shop indicated that nothing could be done unless the codes were active again. research indicates the 2003-04 had skid control computer recall, reflashing/reprogramming the computer but only a tsb was issued on the 2005 model year. after the third incident, the most severe, we went to a toyota dealer. they confirmed the recall & the tsb. in discussions with the service advisor's and technicians, they both reported that they have had numerous 2005 models with the same issue. the dealer informed us that the skid control computer will need to be replaced at a total cost of $1100. however, numerous posts on online blogs & forums indicate the problem persists even after the skid control computer was replaced. we are lucky that this event did not result is an accident as we were in traffic and vehicles behind us would not expect our vehicle to suddenly brake causing them crash into us at full speed. this is a severe known safety issue and toyota should issue a recall. *tr

The brake light constantly goes on and off. trac off, vsc trac and check engine lights all come on. a loud rattling noise coming from the front end of vehicle and vibration when starting up the vehicle. engine will not accelerate randomly while driving and the trac control light goes on at the same time. i first experienced this while going up a mountain and needed to turn around because my vehicle started to decelerate even with the gas completely floored. i noticed that there are a lot of complaints for the same issue. is toyota waiting for a death to happen before they do something. this is a family vehicle and i'm transporting my 2 and 5 year old. something needs to be done about this before something tragic happens!!

2005 sequoia - this is now my 2nd formal complaint. vehicle has skid control, check engine, brake, ect lights on and multiple times lost braking control in traffic. i took to the dealer 3 times and finally they replaced the ecu ($1000) and assured me that this was the problem. guess what? problem is back after just a couple months. now it is said that the brake booster needs replacing($1000). toyota has recalled this problem on other years but not the 2005. the time is now! this is a very dangerous vehicle for my family with 3 young children, plus it is costing us alot of time and money! toyota.....please try and keep your reputation and help your loyal customers.

My 2005 toyota sequoia had the vsc light come on. we took it to the dealer who said that it was a code for the secondary air injection valve sticking open, but he also told us that they have replaced the valves before and it ended up being the pump. when pulling into traffic the vehicle went into limpmode which was very close to causing an accident with my wife and three children in the car. after reading about so many other peple with the same problem, it would seem that toyota should be willing to fix this issue before someone is injured or killed in an accident. i now have a car that is not safe to drive.

Vsc trac, trac off, and parking park light come one and off intermittingly. they will come on while driving and sometimes when the car is turned off and then restarted. they will be off...but sometimes they are still on.

In the past two weeks following a rapid braking my 2005 toyota sequoia surged forward upon acceleration requiring applying the brakes to stop the sudden lurching forward. this has occured on three occasions over a ten day period.

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 toyota sequoia. while driving approximately 65 mph the vehicle surged forward. she attempted to apply pressure to the brakes but the vehicle did not stop. she shifted the vehicle into neutral and allowed it to roll to a stop. after the vehicle stopped she turned it off and on. upon restarting the vehicle the engine began to rev very loudly so she shut it off. the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where they were unable to diagnose the failure. the failure has also occurred twice in the past. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileages were 60,195. sm.

I was driving thru my neighborhood returning home after a heavy snowfall. i had my family in the car and to have a little fun i would give my sequoia a little extra gas as i would go around a corner to get the tires to spin a little. with traction control and anti-lock brakes it was nothing significant but the kids thought it was fun. as i neared my house i accelerated one last time before i was going to turn into my driveway. unfortunately this time there was unintentional acceleration. i don't have the stock floor mats, but even so i tried using my foot to lift the gas pedal. that did not work. since i was on a deadend residential street, i obviously did not want this condition to get out of control. when you are not in that situation it is easy to say that you need to put it in neutral, but when the situation is occurring you really only have time to react. i put the sequoia into park. fortunately since it was a heavy snow, and since i was probably only going 10-15 mph the car came to a stop quickly but no one was thrust forward. i had warning lights on all over my dash. i turned the car off and restarted and the lights went off and the car seemed to function normally afterwards thankfully. i have not taken it in for the recall because the current recall for the 2005 sequoia says that it is a floor mat issue. it is not. i am so glad that you are pursuing further investigation into the real cause of this very potentially dangerous condition. *tr

2005 toyota sequoia with a significantly high cold idle that persists 5-10 mins after starting unchanged by putting the car into gear and requiring the driver to stand on the brakes to stop it. once warmed up, engine will rev while driving without the driver pushing the accelerator but so far has only done this intermittently and for a short duration. *tr

I was driving with wife in my 2005 toyota sequoia west bound on the long island expressway and was about to exit on exit 25. it was a clear day at about noon. the car never had a repair and has about 50,00 miles. the brake pads and tires has been changes at about 40,000 miles. as i was about to exit, the car sped up from 65 mph to about 70 mph even as i was pressing on the brakes. the mats were not in the way. the brake and the gas pedal was not having an affect. the cruise control was not engaged. after about ten second, the brakes finally kicked in. this has never have before or ever since. nothing was done to correct the failure. *tr

2005 toyota sequoia: when braking to a complete stop (lights etc.), while brake pedal is depressed, car jumps forward. this is ongoing from approximately 2007 on. took into dealership and they could find nothing wrong. car would not accelerate when gas pedal was pressed for approximately .5 miles. then it would engage. *tr

Sequoia 2005 2wd. the 2005 should be recalled. (1) while pulling into a parking spot at about 5 mph, the car suddenly accelerated, driving over a parking curb & down a hill. (2) after coming to a complete stop at a stop sign, i tapped on the gas to go & the car suddenly accelerated, lurching forward. after this happened i took the car to the dealer, who inspected it & failed to find a problem. floor mats were no where near the brake & is not possible that the gas pedal stuck, because it accelerated suddenly. if the gas pedal merely got stuck, then the car would have continued forward at the same rate of speed, but in my case it accelerated suddenly both times. tw* *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 toyota sequoia. while driving approximately between 60-65 mph the vehicle skid control (vsc) warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. suddenly, there was no power response during acceleration. the speed rate was reduced with continuous pressure applied to the accelerator pedal. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on two separate occasions for identical failures. the technician was unable to duplicate the failures, so a remedy was not provided. the failures occurred intermittently. the failure mileage was 40,000. the current mileage was 65,000. the vin was unavailable.

The vsc trac light and engine light of my 2005 toyota sequoia is on. when driving the engine seems to hesitate and lurches forward. i was told that i will have to replace my transmission. my car only has 45,000 miles on it and our warranty expired one month ago. my internet research shows that this is a very common problem. a new transmission will cost thousands of dollars and is un-acceptable for such a young car. *tr

Vsc, abs, brake lights flashing and abs light stayed on two of the times while other lights went off this happened 4 -5 times making the car unable to drive. also i went sliding through a stop sign unable to brake. lost total control of vehicle while trying to stop. 3) had it towed to dealer in moline, illinois. they could not find a problem. two weeks later, it happened again and i had it towed to dealer again in moline, illinois and they still have the vehicle. they are having trouble diagnosing the problem. they have replaced a computer in front thus far. note: the service rep. is working on this problem diligently. however, this is a serious problem and a major safety issue. it has happened to hundreds of toyota sequoia owners, therefore, i am speaking out in hopes you will take notice in efforts to correct this problem and avoid killing innocent people. *nm

Check engine light and vsc/traction control lights keep coming on. took it to toyota of lewisville, texas on 30 june 06 and again to toyota of killeen, texas on 15 july 06. toyota of lewisville told me it was bad gas and that the problem was fixed. on 13 june 06 the light came on but went off after a couple of miles. on my way to dallas on 14 jun 06 the same thing happened. later that day on my way back from dallas the lights came back on and i took my sequoia to toyota of killeen on 15 july 06. they worked on my sequoia until 25 july 06. i only had my truck for a day when the lights came back on. i took the truck back to the dealer the next day, 27 july 06, and the service department turned off the lights and an hour later told me my sequoia was ready and that if the problem persisted to bring it back. right there in the service bay the light came on and the dealership has had it ever since. i talked to the service rep and he informs me that the computer has been replaced and the problem persist. they checked the fuel and drained the fuel and the problem persist. *jb
