Dash has cracks all over. i am a little worried that the passenger side air bag would have an issue deploying properly in the event of a crash.

At approximately 81,000 miles, the srs light started blinking on my toyota sienna. code was b0116 (open side squib circuit). this is a safety issue and there is no recommended maintenance listed for this system. i took the car to the dealership, who indicated that this repair was out of warranty (5 years/60,000 miles) and that i needed to pay approximately $3,000 for the repair, plus rental car. toyota was unwilling to stand by this safety issue, after requests by dealership and personally by me for assistance. i expected the safety equipment to last the life of the car when i purchased it, and not to have to budget for such a large repair, unless maintenance was indicated. all other maintenance has been performed to or exceeding toyota standards and on time. further, i was told that repairs like this are often/usually covered by toyota if the owner has been continuously getting service/maintenance at the dealership, and that assistance is usually denied if service/maintenance is performed elsewhere. my service/maintenance is performed elsewhere, but with extremely high standards, parts, and liquids that are all at or above toyota specifications. *tr

Noticed first crack about a month ago and within a couple of days noticed a second crack. one is on the right side starting from the far front edge where the speaker grill is, running diagonally toward the left rear corner of the van. it originally was about 3 long but now has grown to about 5. the other is on the left side starting at the side window defroster vent, running straight back. it originally was about 2 long and is now about 3 long. it is surprising to me how quickly they started and how fast they are growing. this is clearly a safety issue, i have serious concerns that the force of the airbag depolyment would cause pieces of the dash to become projectiles at the passenger.

The air bag indicator light flashed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and was assessed to have an open circuit in the air bag assembly. the entire air bag harness assembly was replaced at a cost of $2600. many people are not able to afford this expense and will drive their vehicle without the air bags working properly.

Toyota sienna 2005 developed two major problems about 6 years and 40,000 miles on it (right after warranty runs out). 1. passenger side front airbag malfunction resulting in airbag lights being on. dealer is quoting $700 dollars. more importantly, the fact that this important life saving device malfunctioning at just 6 years and right after warranty runs out. several other people have had exact same issue as evidenced by discussions in consumer forums on the internet. 2. driver side door makes loud popping noise while opening and closing. dealer confirmed that the welds in the driver hinges have broken. cost to repair (replace door !!) is $2400. toyota customer experience center claimed that a notification about this issue was mailed out, which i have never received. they extended the warranty to cover 5 years and guess what? it breaks at 6 years. both issues are important safety concerns and speaks volumes about toyota quality and cutting corners by designing products that work only until warranty is valid. toyota customer experience representative refused to escalate the matter to higher ups in toyota saying that she has the authority to decide what should be done. they also refused to shoulder the cost to repair. the representative was also unaware of the reasons why the airbag would malfunction. nhtsa should investigate these issues and force toyota to recall.

Srs warning light flashing, taken to the dealer to be informed of the b0111 code and told that both front side airbag harnesses are recommended to be replaced by a toyota service memo, though the b0111 is specifically indicative of a faulty right front harness fault. could the number of complaints be low due to the fact that this fault comes up earlier on most vehicles and they are covered by their warranty and thus not a concern?

2005 toyota seinna airbag lamp is flashing. dealer says they need to replace the entire wiring harness and parts of the airbag system. van has 70k miles. numerous issuescomplaints have been found on the internet. this is a known issue with a bulltien on a non-servicable part. this should be covered by a defectrecall. how can replacement of the entire airbag wirning harness at 70k not be a defect. replacing a part or two is one thing - but an entire wiring harness at $2,500!

Our 2005 toyota sienna had a srs light come on this week intermittently. we took it to our local dealership and found that there is a passenger side airbag harness defect code bo111 that will cost us $2500 dollars to repair. we have less than 100,000 miles on our van. it has not been in any accidents and we have bee current on all our services and check up. now we are questioning the safety of the airbags in this vehicle.

Air bag on left front failed in april 2009. replaced airbag at owner's cost of $700. then about 6 months later the airbag warning light on dash started blinking and would not turn off. took to toyota dealer on 2/23/11 and dealer stated that code in computer shows short in floor harness. at 100,401 miles toyota will not stand behind failure and my cost would be $1900 to repair. airbag system will not deploy in an accident is my understanding...can't believe toyota will recall a problem for floorboards affecting the accelerator and will not recall a problem affecting the entire airbag system.

2005 toyota sienna le airbag (srs) light with error code: b0111 open in side squib (rh) circuit toyota dealer service dept. referred to technical service belletin of 2/27/08 (el001-08) advising replacement of 3 airbag assemblies & 2 wiring harnesses for a total bill of $5400. vehicle has 100,000 miles: warranty ended at 60,000. from what i've read on this thread and on this subject, there should be a total recall on this srs system for these vehicles. (the tech. bulletin is for sienna model years 2004-2008...that's a lot of mini-vans running around with potentially inoperable or defective srs systems, folks!)

Vehicle was a 2005 toyota sienna van. vehicle has always been serviced by toyota dealers.on 8/29/09, i had rear brakes replaced by local toyota dealer with 77,410 miles on the vehicle. 10 days later, on 9/8/09, my roommate was picking up children at school. driving on a 4 lane road in town going 35-40mph. two h.s. students abruptly stopped in her lane. my roommate stated she applied brakes but could tell vehicle was not stopping or slowing. ran into rear end of a toyota tacoma p/u which in turn rear-ended a honda crv. no injuries in any involved vehicle. however, due to the extent of damage, my sienna van was a total loss. airbags did deploy on impact. my roommate stated from the beginning that she had applied the brake to the floor and the van did not brake or slow down. there were no braking/skid marks on the pavement at area of accident. either the brake system totally failed or there was faulty work done during brake replacement 10 days earlier. *tr

I have a 2005 toyota sienna. the airbag system light flashes on and off, not consistently. i can drive for a while and the light is off, then, out of the blue, it will begin flashing again. i took the car to the dealer (fitzgerald toyota) and spent approximately $100 for the dealer to research the problem. i was told that there is a problem with the airbag system, but, they could not begin to fully diagnose or resolve the problem until i pay $873 to have the passenger front seat removed. this includes the purchase of a new seat. the passenger seat is rarely used, so the seat itself should not be defective. i was told that the airbag system component is located under the passenger seat and the problem could be as simple as a loose wire or something more severe. most importantly, i was told that if the airbag symbol is on, the entire airbag system shuts down and does not work!!! how can a system so vital to safety be programmed to completely shut down because of a loose wire? obviously there is an electrical problem as well as a design flaw. my safety and that of my family is completely compromised. i feel as though i am taking my chances every time i step into my vehicle. further, i was told that it would have been possible that toyota might have paid for the repair if i had under 60,000 miles. however, i believe that because airbag deployment can save lives in a crash and because this light flashing/system shut-down is possibly an electrical design flaw issue, and definitley a safety issue, this matter should be covered under warranty for at least 100,000 miles. if investigated, i am sure ntsa will find others who own my sienna model year, as well as other sienna years and other toyota products have the same problem. i did not realize i could file a complaint until the recent issues with the prius, etc. came to light. thank you for looking into the safety of our vehicles! *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 toyota sienna. while driving 60 mph in heavy rain, the contact attempted to change lanes to exit the highway. she lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a tractor trailer. the vehicle spun off of the tractor and traveled back to the left of the highway. the air bags failed to deploy and the vehicle was destroyed. the police and ems were called to the scene, and the contact was the only person transported to a local area hospital for minor to moderate cuts, bruises, neck, and back pain. a police report was filed. the failure mileage was 61,000.

The airbag system light, on our 2005 toyota sienna, flashes on and off consistently. i took our car to the local toyota dealer and spent approximately $100 to research the problem. i was told that there is an issue with the airbag system and the repair would be $ 1500. most importantly, i was told that if the airbag symbol is on, the entire airbag system shuts down and does not work! how can a system so vital to safety not be covered in full by toyota? this vehicle has never been in any sort of accident. obviously there is a design flaw. i feel my safety and that of my family is completely compromised. in an attempt to resolve this problem, i contacted the toyota complaint hotline (1-800-331-4331) and opened a case. the issue remains unresolved. after escalating, toyota offered to pay half, but i still feel that this is much too expensive for something that involves passenger safety and should not fail after only five years. toyota is spending a great deal on advertising to stress the importance their company places on safety. i would expect, if their ads were accurate, that safety related issues would be addressed quickly before any potential harm. a quick google search will show many others with the same complaint about the passenger air bag malfunctioning. this should really be added to toyota's listing of recalls.

2005 toyota sienna van has had recurring airbag sensor blinking issue on the right front passenger seat, toyota wants $1000 to fix after initially advising it was a $5,000 repair. right seat is hardly used and failure isn't a user issue in my opinion. no accident involved.......

We have a 2005 toyota sienna which we purchased new in oct. 2004. no problems appeared until nov, 2005. the air bag (srs) passenger front seat light came on indicating the air bag was turned off and also the dash light came on. the car was taken to toyota dealer who reset this. before we arrived home the same problem recurred. contacted the dealer who informed me to bring it back as soon as the light would remain on for a day etc. this was difficult as we are approx. 70 to 80 miles one way from the dealer. jan. 20/06 returned the car to the dealer who reset it and everything was fine, said they had contacted toyota who said it was the passenger in the front seat who was creating this problem, the passenger is my wife who was not at all impressed with this statement! 20 minutes after leaving the dealership the same problem returned. the dealership was now closed. phoned toyota direct on jan. 30/06 and received a claim number as i was unable to receive any more assistance from the dealership. latest word now from the dealership is they are waiting to hear from there toyota service rep. and will sit up an appt. when he is available. this air bag has turned itself off at least 27 times since the end of nov./05. this is very serious as my wife, family and friends ride in this car and in the event if an accident with this air bag turned off will no doubt possibly lose there lives. there just doesn't appear to be any hurry to solve this problem and hope you may be able to offer some assistance. *jb

Airbag system failure. in my case the airbag light indicated a failure to the right front passenger airbag system. when i reported it to toyota the person on the line said they had known problems with the airbag on these models. the problem has apparently been upgraded to a level just under a recall. luckily my car has not been in an accident but there may be others out there with inoperable airbags.

Air bag light is coming on in our 2005 toyota sienna for a couple of days now. i took the car to the dealership, and they charged me fifty bucks just to tell me they need $696 to replace the passenger seat airbag. my vehicle has never been in an accident. why then does the airbag need to be replaced? and now i'm reading online and finding out that all of my airbags are turned off when this light is illuminated? that is horrible. how can a car legally exist where one air bag malfunction can shut down every air bag in the vehicle. that should not be legal. plesae look into this matter. $700 or your family won't be safe at all as of now. that is a horrible message for this manufacturer to send. given what has been going on with toyota, they shouldn't be allowed to charge excessive fees like this to american families while holding the safety of every person in a vehicle at gunpoint! how is this legal? no safety, no way, unless you pay hundreds of dollars? please do something about this.

Van was t-boned on passenger side by large pickup truck probably going 45 mph or so. truck hit front side panel and passenger door. estimated damage at this point over $14,000. passenger had to be extricated by jaws of life and suffered fractured pelvis and face lacerations. neither the side curtain air bag nor side seat air bag went off. i contacted toyota yesterday and they said they would contact to me within 3 business. i think there is a problem whether they say (a) it should have gone off and didn't or (b) that it should not have gone off with this type of crash. van has not yet been repaired. one issue is whether i should wait to have it repaired. digital pictures of van are available. *nm
