Our 2005 toyota sienna has had recurring problems with the rear doors becoming inoperative. during the lease period it was brought to the dealer who dfiagnosed that it needed a little grease. we continued to live with the manual door requiring several tries to open, finally paying out of pocket for a repair. now the handle had broken off, and the cable for the automatic door has broken. there is now no way to open either door, leaving our children in the back with no direct route to exit the vehicle should something happen. we have spent a few thousand dollars already on these doors and cannot continue to pay for them.

Cable that operates the sliding power door on toyota sienna xle broke. the steel cable rusted out and is exposed. the car is 5 years old and has 45,000 miles on it. toyota says you have to replace the door motor and cable. the cost $1800-2000. far too much money for a poorly designed opening system. the steel cable is exposed to the elements and of course it's going to rust out.

Sliding door on the sienna minevan as soon as the temp drops to 0c the sliding doors are stuck shut and the otomation sucks as well we would not be able to get the kids out of the van quickly

My 10 year old grandson could not exit my 2005 toyota sienna van.he jumped the seat and came out the rt front door. the rt slider door stuck open 6 inches from the frame. a metal cable rusted through and broke. the door would not close power or manual. i forced the door closed from the outside and have not opened it since. it can not open more than 6 inches. a recall to check the spare tire release was done recently. the door cables are also subjected to salt spray in ri. toyota service verified the complaint. in an emergency,.the door could not be opened.

Power slide door pulley cable assembly failed on the driver side of a 2005 toyota sienna xle with 84,000 miles. the cable snapped and renders the door useless. pauly toyota dealer (crystal lake, il) did not even come within 20 feet of the van and quoted me $1600 to repair. the cable of the passenger side of the car has shows that the protective cable coating is crumbling and the cable is rusting making it a matter of time before passenger side door cable snaps as well. this is a very poor design that the cable is constantly exposed to the elements and prone to rusting and snapping (there are a lot of posts on the internet of 2004 sienna owners with the same problem). the failed part is the cable, but you are required to purchase the entire motor assembly to repair - it is a poor design to begin with, especially for owners that live in cold weather climates where the vehicle is exposed to freezing/thawing, road salt, etc.

2005 toyota sienna right power sliding door inoperative after battery changed.

I had by 2005 toyota sienna fixed the recall letter i had regarding back hydraulic strut on my back door. this was done on last week of march this year(2010) at penske toyota. after 3 months of using the back door, 1. it intermittently will go down half way and will go back to open position. 2. when opening the door manually, it will snap open wildly almost to the point of injuring your face. note-these 2 conditions never happened prior to the recalled replacement.

Sliding door cable on the driver's side was torn and tangled. it was impossible to open the door.

Both automatic doors on our 2005 toyota sienna have been malfunctioning for the past 2 years. one does not close unless manually pushed and the other closes on people when they are in the way of the door. the bounce-back safety feature which is supposed to prevent the door from closing on people does not work. we have barely avoided serious injury with this door and do not allow our children to use it. toyota refuses to repair (even when it was still under warranty) unless we pay $1,800 per door.

The cable that is used to open and shut the automatic sliding doors of 2005 toyota sienna started to corrode and eventually snapped at about 40,000 miles. we removed the broken cable and open and shut the door manually. the cable on the other side of the van is experiencing the same corrosion and i am expecting it to fray and snap too. i checked in to fixing the problem and was quoted $1500 per door.

Safety issue - vehicle was not equipped with a spare tire, jack and tire wrench. run-flat tires were prematurely worn prior to 30k. toyota dealers refuse to resolve tire issues and will not add spare tire and jack to vehicle. this is major highway safety issue!
07/01/2005
When the rear windows of my 2005 toyota sienna are rolled down the door will not stay open, it is especially bad if you are parked on a hill. if the window is rolled up, then the door stays open catches it is most apparent on my manual door although the power door does the same thing except the motor precludes it from shutting itself. i find this very dangerous especially around my two year olds. when i went to the dealer, they were surprised that the door wouldn't stay open and then proceeded to tell me it was a safety feature so you don't leave your windows open!!!! i laughed out loud. so, that's my complaint. it seems they all do it. the ce and le w/package 1- manual doors are the worst of course.

Sliding door is not open and close when using electrical button. we got the extend warranty but when we bring to toyota dealer they told us have to pay $295.00 to check it . if a defect is not under warranty. i fill it is not fair. door is not open because the latch was not release by pushing button. is it safe when children are in side? if we remove the latch everything is working fine. please help american consumer to make toyota responsible for any lack of assembly. they have to pay for the time of inconvenient also. please investigate this issue. thank you

Dt*: the contact stated the adaptive wheel chair lift failed to retract into the vehicle after the fuse blew. there is no manual option to retract the lift once the power is interrupted. every time this occurred the vehicle had to be taken back to the bruno installation shop for resetting. the seat computer was reset each time. the lift is a bruno lift-up power mobility seat with the model number of tas 5000 l.
