Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) i purchased a certified used toyota car (vehicle vin: [xxx]) on 12/22/2008 from fremont toyota dealer ([xxx]), which leads a nightmare as it's a wrecked cert. rejected car with 2 tire valve stems broken on day 1 and day 8 after purchase and another 2 tires flat again on may 10 1. the rear right tire valve stem broke on 12/23/2008 (the first day after purchase) and the tire pressure monitoring system indicator (tpws) was on so i drove the car to the service department on 12/24/2008. dealer claim they fixed the problem and also checked all the other tires and make sure they are working. 2. on 1/1/2009, the front right tire valve stem broke again and the tpws was not on. this happened when we drove on highway 5 at 75 miles/hour and we don't even know the tire already 2/3 was flattened!! we happened to look for restaurant at that time and a person coming out of restaurant pointed to us this flat tire! if we did not exit for rest, all 5 passengers in the car could no longer be in this world now. 3. further complete discovery on this car reveals: a. bondo was applied on the following areas: left fender on rear behind wheel opening area; right door from upper center to bottom of door; and, rt quarter panel in front of wheel opening area the amount of bondo applied to the subject vehicle, clearly indicates the damage/wreck/repair in these areas were extensive. b.sand scratched and dirt under paint are obvious in many areas, this is the result of a poor quality re-paint job. the re-paint of the vehicle is further evidenced by the paint mil gauge readings from 8 miles to 12 miles. this matches kearny mesa toyota's 160 point rejection. c.the paint job alone estimate (not including the body repair) was over $2200 and yet was this re-paint was not reported. the faulty paint job is a known defect to anyone that looks at the vehicle in the automotive industry. d. the right fender was previously removed. and more. *tr

My issues occurred 5 years ago, it was the first year toyota used the computerized acceleration in their cars. this information is important to the investigation being conducted by nasa. february 21, 2005 we purchased a brand new toyota solora by june we sold it. the car failed to accelerate on several occasions by not responding when i pushed the gas pedal. i realize this is the opposite end of the spectrum, but trust that it is relevant. please ensure nasa gets this information it will give them more to work with. i am writing you today because following a news broadcast about toyota my child asked me if i remembered our incident that almost cost us our lives in that car. i have placed this information in your hands to do the right thing with. vin# 4t1ca30p15uxxxxxx case numbers on file with toyota 200504110025 -april 11, 2005 200505090783

Purchased 2005 solara 11/5/04. had mva on sunny, dry day in rush hour traffic. i applied brakes at about 45 mph and the car did a 360. i hit a concrete barrier and spun around and hit water filled barriers on the opposite side of the expressway. the car did not stop until it landed in mud. toyota examined car and said they found nothing wrong with the car. to this day i still have problems with the brakes. i had $9500.00 in damages and 2 dislocated knees. i hit no other car and no one hit me...not going fast at all. i am still driving the car although i am afraid but i have no other option. *tr

Purchased a 2005 toyota solara in the fall of 2004. was involved in a crash between dallas and houston on i45 south after the brakes did not lock and i hydroplaned during a rainstorm. was hit by a truck after my car skidded into the right hand lane. i had adjusted my speed for the weather and was under the speed limit. was not ticketed but my insurance paid both claims. still notice brakes locking when i pump them so i take my foot off the brake completely before reapplying pressure or i mash them to the floor. *tr

I am a mechanical engineer involved in a lawsuit dealing with this mechanical scissor jack. the case has gone to trial and been resolved. as a part of my investigation, i determined that the base of the jack is out of specification, and wobbles. the base is meant to be flat, yet all four feet of the base do not touch when the jack is rested on a flat surface. based on testimony by the manufacturer, the base deforms during the final assembly, and this wobble is acceptable. i have checked a 2007 camry, 2005 corolla, and 2011 camry, and these cars all have the same issue with the base. during my inspections, the jack will roll inboard during normal jacking, placing all the weight onto the two inside feet, using only about 20% of the base. if the base is flat as intended, more of the base if not all would be used providing a greater level of stability during emergency jacking.

VISIBILITY
08/01/2009280001
The windows on my 2005 toyota solara have problems. about 6 months ago i started to hear the windows to drag when being put up or down. the passenger window has a piece in the door now that rattles and slides around inside the door, when the window goes up it goes up too far and it sticks out of the rubber barrier it suppose to seal in. i worry if i have a wreck the window may not be secure enough to protect me from shattering since it does not seal in itself. i had contacted haley toyota dealership and they told me some people had window complaints but would not tell me how many. their answer is electric motors break. my 2005 solara has only 28,000 miles on it and i bought one of the first ones on the lot in 2005. i have been told it could possibly cost me $300.00 or more to fix. the driver window is starting to get sluggish now and probably be the same problem to arise with this window. i don't think a car with only 28000 miles on it in 5 years should have this problem. i think i might not be the only one with window problems. the dealership was very defensive about the call i made to them about the recall on the toyota's if mine was included in the recall list. they don't give you any info on anything. i was told back when the recall was done by haley toyota in roanoke va that it was not problem. they said the problem was people were putting think floor mats on top of the toyota mats.just don't worry about it they said back when the first recall was out for the floor mats. this is not good business. this is the second toyota i have bought. *tr

I have a 2005 toyota solara convertible. the rear defroster is not operating. i took the car to the dealer and was told that the circuit board was bad. it would cost $3500 to correct since the top would need to be replaced. there was no other resolution to this problem. the car has 33,000 miles on it and is no longer under warranty. the dealer said they have only seen this two other times. since i live in a cold climate, i feel this is a safety issue. i feel this is a defect in the car. i have emailed toyota and wrote to them and have not received any response. *tr

3. further complete discovery on this car reveals: a. bondo was applied on the following areas: left fender on rear behind wheel opening area; right door from upper center to bottom of door; and, rt quarter panel in front of wheel opening area the amount of bondo applied to the subject vehicle, clearly indicates the damage/wreck/repair in these areas were extensive. b.sand scratched and dirt under paint are obvious in many areas, this is the result of a poor quality re-paint job. the re-paint of the vehicle is further evidenced by the paint mil gauge readings from 8 miles to 12 miles. this matches kearny mesa toyota's 160 point rejection. c.the paint job alone estimate (not including the body repair) was over $2200 and yet was this re-paint was not reported. the faulty paint job is a known defect to anyone that looks at the vehicle in the automotive industry. d. the right fender was previously removed. and more. *tr
