2005 tacoma prerunner. automatic-package 2. had new vehicle surge 3 different times after purchase first week of march. last time sent me into middle of busy intersection. this was tuesday march 29, 2005. called dealer and they sent a tow truck. all people at dealership have been very nice, but say they have found nothing wrong with it. found out last week, that a lady on a test drive had a car surge through the showroom window at same dealership. i have no faith that the vehicle won't do this again. i am refusing to pick vehicle up at dealership, even though i paid cash.

[xxx] 2005 toyota tacoma which flipped onto its side in december, since then toyota has provided 5 months of run-around and refused to acknowledge damages, etc. i met with a toyota engineer who checked the brakes, said everything was fine, didn't both looking at the mats or anything else at all. i responded by saying if you're sweating and your left hand is numb, its probably b/c of something else it definitely isn't a heart attack, right? information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Braking is too slow. when stopping under dry conditions this vehicle takes too long to stop. dealer was notified. dealer stated that was 'normal' for anti-lock braking systems. dealer would not take any action. to improve braking abs brakes were disabled by removing fuse. even with this braking to a stop takes longer than with other vehicles under same conditions. this problem is on-going and has nearly caused several rear-end collisions. *tr

I was skeptical about this brake override until the sudden acceleration actually happened to me on 3/5/2010. i was on the freeway traveling 50 mph in moderate traffic when a construction truck decided to turn into my lane. i gave it a quick punch to avoid a collision when i felt my rpm's kept climbing as i was no longer on the pedal. i panicked and tried to apply the brakes to no response, so i tapped the shifter into neutral. at this point my car is still accelerating in redline. finally, the car snaps out of it and i have control again. i slow down, shift back into d and continue my commute to school. in the past, i have noticed a few times there have been a slight lunge in acceleration just after the transmission switches gears. i love my tacoma. i have been in denial and have been hoping, wishing that there isn't a problem. but for the safety of myself and my passengers, i am going to make sure this problem is noted before anyone one gets hurt. i would hate for anything serious to happen and leave people wondering. i feel the need to report this complaint. could this be something as simple as a stuck throttle body? i hope the resolution to this will be simple and rewarding, i would hate to give up this truck. toyota tacoma 2005 access cab 4.0 v6 ~90,000 miles at time of incident owned current vehicle from august 2009 up to present date march 6, 2010. *tr

I had an accident last august while driving my toyota tacoma prerunner. i was slowing down in a turn lane and i could not get the truck to stop which made me continue into oncoming traffic. the damage to my truck was over $8,000. and i do not know the dollar amount cased to the other car but it sustained major to the front of that car. the other car hit me on the driver side near the front wheel and back wheel areas. i did not receive a ticket but i was noted as the cause of the accident. i also ended up in the emergency room . no air bags went off i guess because it did not hit me in the front. i am not sure of the exact day of the accident so i put the 15th of the month. i can get the exact from my insurance company when needed. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 toyota tacoma. while attempting to park the vehicle in reverse, the contact had to apply extreme pressure to the accelerator pedal. he then depressed the brake pedal, but the vehicle failed to stop and continued to move in reverse. the vehicle crashed into a parked vehicle. a passenger was injured. the ambulance was not called to the scene and the vehicle was able to be driven. the insurance company had the vehicle repaired and a diagnostic was performed. at this time, the cause of the failure is still unknown. the speed was unknown as well. the failure mileage was 36,000 and current mileage was 46,000.

During recent cold winter weather, had couple incidents where brakes appeared to not operate correctly on moderate ice/slushy road condition and this caused on one occasion to run through intersection due to not being able to stop the vehicle being fortunate that no other traffic was present at the time. this all comes after a transmission replacement at 6271 miles and rear brake work on the vehicle at 6558 miles. this truck is like a lemon. *nm

On two occasions the brakes have failed in wet conditions. the first occurred when going through standing water of about 5 under normal temperature. the second occurred after going through a car wash in temperature of 39 degrees. after going through the car was i was traveling about 5 mph through a parking lot to park in front of a convenience store, the truck stuck the curb, and nearly struck propane tanks stored in front of store. after drying the vehicle and waiting about 15 minutes i proceeded to the intersection in front of business and brakes failed again. *nm

I have a 2005 toyota tacoma 4 door and ever since taking it off the lot 5 days ago, when applying the brakes in any weather, on any surface of road, i get a thumping in the pedal and the steering wheel when applying the brakes to stop. it gets worse with more pressure applied to the brakes. the front end seems to bounce, and feels like it will go out of control. the truck has 230 miles on it, i will be calling the dealer today.

Dt:total brake failure. while driving in parking lot at low speed hit brakes and brake pedal went to floor. vehicle finally stopped after being steered on concrete abutment. did not have any property damages or accident, but there was brake failure. had towed vehicle to dealership where he purchased vehicle. dealer tested it, and could not duplicate the total brake failure, but did note that the brake pressure was weak, and the pedal had to be put to the floor to stop. because they were unable to duplicate total brake failure they could not repair. *ak

I recently opened a corporate case against the toyota of stuart dealership. this is not the first incident that i have had with them, but this is the most recent. on july 26, 2006, i noticed some grease all inside the rim of my tire. i brought the truck into the dealership. i talked to the service department to try and explain the problem. i was told, we know what it is, we will order the rear seals and call you when they come in. no one looked at my vehicle!!! i was told to leave and i would get a phone call. on july 27, 2006 at 10:30 am while in a left hand turn, i applied the brake lightly at a speed of approximately 30 mph. the truck very quickly spun around and backwards into a guard rail. i called the dealership and was told to bring the truck back to them. they assured me that because of the grease on the wheel and being made to think that it was safe to drive, that the dealership would take care of the damage to the vehicle. this happened, fortunately on a road with minimal traffic, not on i-95. i often think about what could have happened if i was driving on the highway. i could have seriously injured myself, or someone else. i could have had my 5 year old in my vehicle going to camp. anything serious could have happened. fortunately, it did not. after bringing the truck in and many phone calls and trips to the dealership, i was told after two weeks, by the manager of the dealership that i needed to call my insurance company. this was so my insurance would pay for the damages. this is totally wrong. i could have been seriously injured or even worse! if they would have checked my vehicle, it would have been deemed unfit to drive. i am not a mechanic. now the dealership wants my $500.00 deductible payment. you have got to be kidding me! i must say, i am very sorry that i bought a toyota vehicle. if i had to do over again, i would not do so. this is a terrible way to treat a customer. *jb

Thiswas my second report on this incident. i took the vehicle to be serviced for the last incident where the front brakes failed, the dealership technician said the loss was due to an after-market security/remote system that i had installed by a tidy car. they suggested i have this disconnected. after having the system disconnected i took the vehicle to the local automatic car wash. when leaving the car wash i experiences loss of brakes as i pulled into traffic. third time i've lost brakes when rotors got wet.*ak

After reading a news article about unintended acceleration in 2005 -07 tacoma pickups, i was reminded of an incident i had a few months back. indeed my tacoma surged when i hit the brake. when this happened, i realized my foot was on both the brake and the accelerator. i had to pick up my foot and re-apply the brake. there was no malfunction on the car's part, but the pedals are positioned too close, and at the same distance from the floorboard, which makes it much too easy to press them at the same time. this should indeed be reminded, for it is a real problem. it is easy a the driver to assume that they are only pressing the brake because the brake pedal requires more pressure than the accelerator. i could hardly feel the accelerator pedal under the right side of my foot while i pressed on the brake, but i was depressing both at the same time. *tr
