As i was rolling down hill and applying the brakes, the truck suddenly accelerated. as i pressed the brakes harder the anti-lock brakes activated and the truck continued to move forward for a short distance, almost into on coming traffic, while the engine could be heard loud as if the gas peddle was being pushed although the brakes were being applied only. scary! uncontrollable forward movement and acceleration while braking. *tr

The technician notified me of a timing cover oil leak. the cost to repair was quoted as $2,763.00. this leak has been identified as a common problem on 2006 tacoma and discussed on several auto forums. toyota should initiate a recall to fix this high dollar, manufacturer error. *tr

For at least 2 mos previous i would hear a chirping noise from the engine compartment. it would get louder as you accelerated & seamed more noticeable in warmer weather. took vehicle in to dhc torrance toyota & said it was my idler bearings. i thought that was odd since the truck only has 37400 miles. it cost me over $800.00. *tr

I recently had an issue with the engine fan hitting the shroud on my 2006 tacoma. i took my tacoma into the local toyota dealership for diagnostics. they informed me that the frame was cracked around the weld where the drivers' side motor mount bracket was welded to the frame. the bracket has started sinking into the frame which could ultimately cause serious problems to consumers leading to vehicle accidents etc. i have been doing research and have heard of this same issue happening with 2005 & 2006 tacomas from numerous other tacoma owners. the welds around the motor mount brackets are weak. these should be one of the strongest welds on the truck. toyota advertises their trucks for off road use yet they barely hold up to normal highway driving. i hope toyota resolves this matter accordingly.

Tl- the contact owns a 2006 toyota tacoma. the contact stated that the air bag deployment light is on for the drivers side steering wheel air bag. the owner also stated that the vehicle lurches forward at times when sitting still at a stop sign. the vehicle has not been repaired. toyota advised toi bring the vehicle in for diagnostics. the failure and current mileages are 66,780. rd

2006 toyota tacoma regularly surges forward when at full stop with brakes applied. this happens unpredictably and whether a/c is on or not. it is not idle speed increase associated with compressor turn on, and causes the vehicle to move forward- no other vehicle that i have had has done this. this is very likely a software issue with the ecu and needs to be addressed in this manner. your previous investigation may not have been designed to find a software defect, which by nature, can be intermittent and difficult to find. research into the code is required. (i am an engineer involved in aviation software- these abnormalities must be properly researched.) *tw

Around 30,000 miles, i started getting a clunking noise everytime i came to a stop. either when i stopped or when i took my foot off the brake. i talked to the toyota mechanic and he said it was a drive shaft problem and there wasn't anything he could do until i called the 800 number and put a fire under there butt. so here i am - filing a complaint, trying to get this fixed. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 toyota tacoma xrunner. the contact heard a whistling noise coming from the throw bearing. the dealer repaired the failure, but it recurred a month later. he took the vehicle to another dealer and they repaired the throw bearing again, but the noise recurred a week later. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but they did not want to replace the bearing. it was greased because the dealer felt that since it was new it did not need to be replaced. after the bearing was greased, the noise returned approximately two days later. the manufacturer advised the contact to replace the clutch. he took the vehicle to an independent mechanic to replace the clutch and, after it was replaced, the noise returned two weeks later. he does not have a warranty on the vehicle and cannot afford a diagnostic test. he wants to have the vehicle diagnosed and repaired by toyota for free. the current mileage was 66,500 and failure mileage was 10,000.

My 2006 tacoma (14k miles) has a loud grinding noise that lasts for approximately one second at start-up.. approximately one year ago, after numerous visits to the dealer, and one air conditioner compressor replacement, the dealership acknowledges that they heard the noise, and that several other tacomas on the lot made the same noise. it sounds like the top of the engine is coming off. the noise appears to be a result of a liquid migration or flood-back condition of liquid refrigerant (instead of vapor) being compressed by the air conditioning compressor. toyota emphatically insists the noise is a characteristic of the vehicle and that no fixes are available now and none are planned. my contention is that if the a/c compressor seizes during operation, this would result in the loss of the engine drive belt (single belt serpentine system). if the belt separates from the engine, the power steering system would become inoperative and would result in a significant loss of steering control. at freeway speeds, this could have an adverse affect for me, my family, and other motorists. *tr

Tl*- the contact owns a 2006 toyota tacoma , cab. cruise control malfunctioned. while driving at 60 mph the vehicle surged at 5100 rpms, and down shifted before adding fuel. the failure almost caused the vehicle to crash into a barrier. a product engineer inspected the vehicle, and stated that it performed as designed and according to the contact the design was incorrect. this failure occurred since august 2006. the contact stated that the door should lock after engaging the gears. the dealer stated it was designed that way, and they're unable to reprogram it to make it auto lock. the owner mailed a detailed failure report to the president of toyota. the failure mileage was 8000, and the current mileage was 15100.*ak

Engine races when shifting from 4th to 5th gear. engine rpm may go as high as 3,000 rpms. 2006 toyota tacoma access cab 4 cylinder 4-wheel drive. manufacturer say this is an emission procedure. it's o.k. to shift the transmission and let the clutch out while the engine is fee winding. even the toyota mechanics at my local dealer says this is wrong it will ruin the clutch eventually. i paid cash for this vehicle.......and toyota just as soon get rid of me rather than fix the problem. i will do everything in my power to give toyota all the free publicity i can on every forum there is on the net. i have proof from the dealer that this is not normal and toyota says to it;s customer.....bugger off. we got your money. and your right i do have stupid written on my forehead. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated when accelerating in 1st gear at 15 mph, the vehicle stalled on 9 occasions. at other times, the shifter would not go into reverse. there was a clunking noise when shifting occurred that became constant as the problem worsened. the vehicle was taken to a service dealer but the problem was not corrected. an appointment was scheduled with another service dealer. the fuel warning light was not activated at the proper volume of fuel. these problems happened shortly after the carpeting was replaced due to water leaking through the firewall. the manufacturer was notified. the consumer stated the vehicle jumped out of park and into reverse. on numerous occasions the truck stalled. updated 12/18/06. *jb

I have a 2006 toyota tacoma 2.7 l manual trans where the gas petal sitcks, toyota claims its the floor mat. no way the floor mat has anything to do with this problem. this problem occurs about 5% of the time, when removing your foot from the petal, it will stay in the open position for aprox 10 sec before the rpm's slow down. i have own the truck new and did take it back to the dealership back in 2006. they told me it was impossible for the gas petal to stick and did nothing to fix the problem back then. this is an on going problem with the truck, i am glad its a manual trans, all i have to do is push in the clutch when it happens.

I have a 2006 toyota tacoma. it has uncommanded engine surges. it is most notable at a stop. once the vehicle stops engine rpm reduces to 500 rpms and seconds later it surges to 800rpm. i noticed this when i bought the car,but thought that was normal. in 2008 it caused me to have a minor traffic accident and realized it was not normal. at higher rpms above 35 mph the vehicle feels like it is in a high gear as it quickly reduces speed when you take your foot off the pedal. again i thought this normal prior to this current round of recalls. i was amazed the tacoma's are not being recalled. something is definitely wrong with the engine computer. *tr

In late may 2009 while on highway 50 in sacramento just east of the 50/80 interchange in good weather (dry and clear) my 2006 toyota tacoma's gas pedal buried itself to the floor and the vehicle went to maximum acceleration. braking only had a slight initial effect and then overheated and faded. after a lucky 4 miles i shifted to neutral and the problem resolved. this began around 60mph and maxed around 107. during the 4 miles i activated and deactivated my cruise several times, tapped the brakes, reached down and pulled on the pedal and the mat, the recent toyota explanations of sticking pedal and mat issues did not apply and i find them ludicrous.. it is an eerie feeling to have your accelerator leave your foot on its own. truck had 36,500 miles, never in an accident, was in good repair with regular maintenance and was stock except for a shell. while owned the truck had experienced the at stop surge described by many others where it felt like someone tapped the back of the truck while waiting in an intersection. loved the truck until that day, and respected toyota. had this happened on another road or with heavier traffic it would have had a different outcome. traded the vehicle two weeks later at great loss of equity. someone else now owns this vehicle. *tr

I have a 2006 toyota tacoma. i have concerns about the throttle mechanism. about a year ago at a stop sign, i experienced the motor racing and vehicle attempting to lurch forward. i had to press very hard on the brake pedal to remain in place. after reading an article from the la times about the toyota throttle problems, i called my toyota dealer. he denied that there was a problem with the electronic throttle. i am concerned that the carpet/gas pedal fix is not addressing the electronic throttle problem. *tr

I purchased a toyota tacoma 2006 new and from day one had problems with the vehicle over revving on start up, which is very damaging to an engine in cold climates. it also between shifting from 3rd to 4th, and 4th to 5th gears the rpm's will not come down to enable one to shift properly and not only makes for a road dangerous condition but it also causes damage to the entire drive train. i've been unsuccessful at trying to take care of this problem with toyota, quite frankly they have a very bad attitude with this whole matter and to give you an example, i was told by one dealership that maybe i should learn how to shift faster. please assist me . *tr

I wanted to write you to let you know that i have a '06 tacoma double cab and i am experiencing the lurch problem. i have around 2000 miles on my truck. i thought it was just me being picky, but it actually feels like it doesn't want to stop at times. i have noticed that with the ac or heat on, if i are sitting at a red light, and don't have my foot firmly, i mean firmly planted on the brake, it wants to jump forward. it will do this a couple of times if the light is red for a while. also, if i am driving through a parking lot at slow speeds, it tends to lurch forwards at times, thus causing me to play with the brake and gas. not sure if this is related or not, but also, if i am riding at about 34-45 mph and then release the gas, the engine feels like it stalls, but it doesn't. the rpms drop, then level off again as it coast. *jb

Truck had 0 miles and from day 1 i have heard a tapping sound(rocker arm loose)complained was told by dealer it was injector noise. i said well that injector must be bad change it was told all toyota's make that noise. this was a lie i have had it back 5x and i know i could fix it in 10 min by adjusting valve lash. i do not want to void the warranty hahahaahahah so hopefully it will not burn out the valve and it will wait for the recall ahahahahaha. the guy with the clunk my truck don't clunk it taps. the clunk is a bad u joint i hope for your sake. if this truck lasts the 4 years it takes me to pay it off. i will get rid of it and go back to nissan. *nm

 1) vehicle was designed and delivered with this defect. accelerator sticks when traveling over 50 mph. 2) no accident has occurred yet. the fault was first noticed when towing a trailer on the thruway. coming up on a slower vehicle, i took my foot off the accelerator expecting the vehicle to slow. the vehicle kept on at the same speed as if the cruise control was engaged. i had to apply brakes to slow the vehicle. i have clocked the accelerator sticking between 5 to 20 seconds before the engine rpm's begin to drop. 3) toyota refuses to make any corrections as their factory rep says this is normal operation. the vehicle has been in to the dealer 2 times on this defect. *nm

2006 toyota tacoma . abs brakes right front brake when slowing or coming to a stop @ times applying the brakes in a normal manner. the right front seems to lock up while the others seem not to brake @ all. and slid through a traffic light. took it to toyota 2/15/10 picked up 2/18 /10, could not duplicate . this has happened before when it was about1 to 11/2 years old was pulling a small trailer, i called toyota the said it happened because of pulling the trailer, so never took it in. it when this happens there is like a loud rumbling buzzing vibration coming from the right front. also ever since new the idle will run rough then speed up to run normal. at toyota they said its normal 4 a tacoma to run like that & there was nothing they could do to fix it. *tr

I am writing to complain about a ticking noise from the v6 motor. i've taken the truck into the dealer twice and even drove a new tacoma from the lot. i've noticed a sound from all of the tacoma's. the problem seems to be a normal thing for the tacoma's, but it's very irritating. *jb

Since day one i heard this ticking noise, i brought it back to dealer and complained about it. they test drove it and heard the noise, then they drove a new one off the lot and said it made the same noise, so they told me it was normal. after the 3rd time bringing it back for the ticking noise they said it could be the injectors or the exhaust manifolds. then i called the toyota corporation and complained about the ticking and they had somebody from the dealership call me up and take him for a test drive and he did not hear the noise he told me i must have especially good hearing at that frequency. what a bunch of crap! *jb
