ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
04/01/20011
My folks happen to own a 2000 toyota tacoma pickup, 4-cyl with/auto transmission since it was new. when the air conditioner is in use and the driver applies the brake, the vehicle will lurch forward. also, the vehicle will lurch forward when the fan is turned-on, with the air-conditioner switch already on which activates the air-conditioner immediately. i assume this conditions exits to compensate for the air conditioner load on the engine. however, i've driven many other vehicles that function just fine when the air conditioner is activated without having to lurch the vehicle forward, especially when the brake is applied. the problem has several times nearly caused an accident with pedestrians and other vehicles - near misses. my folks have taken the vehicle to the toyota dealer several times and the dealer keeps claiming that the vehicle is functioning as designed. so it appears that toyota has acknowledged that they purposely designed a vehicle that will lurch forward when the brake is applied and the air conditioner is on. i had to check this out for myself because it seemed too ridiculous to be believed and i was surprised when it happen to me. it takes an abnormal amount of pressure on the brake pedal to keep the vehicle still when the air conditioner is activated and the slightest release causes the vehicle to lurch forward. this has been a going on since the vehicle was new so the date below only a formality to file this compliant. if there is any interest in this complaint the vehicle is available for review. *tr

2000 tundra with 60,900 miles on it. (right - 900 miles out of warranty.) overdrive started making noise when engaging and whine while driving. out of overdrive transmission sound fine. brought to dealer immediately and they had district rep drive it. determined that the whole transmission needs to be replaced, but they will not cover any of it. called the manufacture and they will not do anything for me. neither the dealer nor manufacturer will get me in contact with the district manager who made decision. *nm
SEATS - FRONT ASSEMBLY - HEAD RESTRAINT
03/01/2000
I have not had an incident yet, however i am very concerned about the potential for injury in the event of an accident. there is no rear head restraint for passangers in the rear seat. during acceleration i have noticed several peoples head hitting the rear glass (especially children). i am concerned about someones head going through the glass, especially if i were rear-ended by another vehicle. there is nothing in place to prevent the head of a rear seat passenger from going through the glass in the rear window. i believe this is a manufacturing defect with the vehicle design.*ak

2000 toyota tundra brake vibration problem - brakes can cause violent vibration of front and rear of vehicle which can cause loss of control on wet surfaces due to bouncing of vehicle. i am surprise the nhtsa has not requested recall due to the volume of complaints placed with the administration. toyota should be ashamed.
STRUCTURE - BODY - BUMPERS

The rear center bumper of my 2000 toyota forruner sr5 4 wheel drive is rusting. i noticed on many other 2000 forruners that there is also a rust problem , again only on the center bumper. because of the amount of vehicles i observed rusting in the same location it appears to be a product defect and failure. i wrote to toyota and called them, they said to bring it to my local dealer to look at the problem. they told me it was out of warrenty, but maybe they would chip in half for the repair. they completely wasted my time, as after i wasted a half day bringing it over, they acknowleged the rust wasnt from damage, but they would do nothing as it was out of warrenty. i told them then why was i told to bring it over to look at and waste my time. they did not give me a valid answer. i have seen at least 5 other vehicles like mine. *tr

I owned a 2000 tundra with a rusted frame. i took it to a toyota body shop and i was told it was dangerous and not repairable. i proceeded to another dealer, traded it in on a 2008 tundra because of the advice from the toyota body shop. in addition, i have retained all of my records from the date of purchase. *tr

After watching a news report concerning the 2000 tundra frame rot we inspected our vehicle an found that the frame and springs had excessive rust and corrosion as well as on the drive shaft. we also reached behind the frame that we could not see and major rust flakes were coming off as we put pressure on them. we also have vibration on the steering when traveling between 60 and 70 mph. the truck also tends to lurch after you have been in an idle position when you put the gear shift into drive. we have gone through two new break jobs in 2 years. *tr

A light impact on the center of the passenger side wheel while turning left has caused the main steering frame to bend downward resulting in the whole frame having to be replaced on my 2000 toyota trd. no damage to wheel or passenger.
TIRES
07/12/20081
While driving down the highway at 65-70 mph, the tread on one of my futura lte 2000 p215/65r15 came completely off. before and during long trips (like this one), i check and verify that the air pressure of the tires is 35 psi and all tires were holding their pressure just fine (i.e. no leaks). i had last checked the tire pressure the previous evening. *tr
