Defect SummaryOn certain 4-wheel drive pickup trucks, due to the improper heat treatment of the slip yokes that had been reworked during the manufacturing process, the hardness of the slip yoke may be insufficient.
Consequence SummaryIn this condition, there is a possibility that the yoke may break causing the propeller shaft to separate at the joint and come into contact with the road surface or the fuel tank which could result in a loss of vehicle control or a fuel leak.
Corrective SummaryDealers will inspect the slip yoke and replace the propeller shaft if necessary free of charge. the recall began on january 7, 2008. owners may contact toyota at 1-800-331-4331.

Bought a 2007 toyota tundra. noticed around 23,450 miles that something was turning (spinning) and felt like it was coming through the driverside floor . right underneath my feet. brought it in toyota said they didnt find anything. later heard noises on the left side of engine near left tire. then shaking and vibrations followed. around 60,000 miles transmission started slipping and clunking noises came from the engine. 65,000 miles started losing power. fuel pump failure. paid for a new fuel pump system $777.79. turns out 2007 model has to replace whole system. no other tundra needs to. at 68,000 miles it got worse . transmission diagnostic says transmission needs to be replaced. $4500. at 96,000 miles my truck in non operating. toyota will not replace transmission. even though a toyota operations manager states it is not normal for transmission to go out this soon at so little mileage. the average time is between 15-20 years with the high technology that cars are built with now a days. is what he said to me. older cars built years ago transmissions normally last around 5 years sometimes 10 if they were lucky. so supposedly our vehicles are built smarter now adays. i have so many problems i find that hard to believe.

When i have come to a complete stop, the car lunges ,rather it feels as if another vehicle has bumped me from behind.from day 1 almost they told me it is normal i have been driving 45 yrs. and this is not normal. this is a mfg. defect that is probably so expensive to repair that they are leaving it to the owner to repair after the warranty runs out i have 32,000 mi. on it and it continuously does this on a regular basis.help!!!!!!

Turned the truck on and the check engine and traction control lights were both on, 4 lo and vsc off lights were both flashing, the truck sounded noticably louder and now has a loss of power. codes show p2440.

When stopping for a traffic light/stop sign from 40-50mph, the truck stops normally. after about 1.5 seconds when at a complete stop, the truck gives a kick. it is severe enough that it feels as if you had been rear ended. the whole truck shutters. i took it in to the dealership who gives the, i can't duplicate it spiels. my tranny fluid was low due to a leaking rear seal so they blamed it on that. they changed the aluminum front driveshaft as they stated it caused the leak. problem never went away. does not happen at any other time. suspect the first gear clutch packs are releasing and re-engaging. could be mechanical but it is also a possible problem with the transmission ecu. similar issue with the 2007-up camry which was determined to be the torque converter.

My vehicle set a dtc p2440 for the secondary air induction valve stuck open. i have been told this repair is not covered under warranty due to water intrusion. the only problem is that my vehicle has never been under water or off road. this is a design flaw/engineering defect that toyota created and should be treated as a recall for all affected models for replacement for a better or redesigned part. the cost of replacement for the affected parts is beyond reasonable for all toyota owners. toyota needs to step up and fix there flaw. i pulled out onto a public road and had no power and was nearly involved in an accident due to this problem. its not safe and very dangerous.

Drive yolk went out and blew the rear transmission seal. could have dropped the drive shaft and caused serious injury. over 2000 dollars to repair. this truck has been maintained to the tee, all maintenance done on the dot! very well taken care of. the truck is with high mileage, 90,000. however, we were told at time sale it had a 100,000 mile power train warranty in which there was no worry there because if maintained it would last for 300,000 plus miles.now we are told that that is not so it was not 100,000 miles, it was only 60,000. the truck was very well maintained, all highway miles, drive 50 miles one way to work everyday on interstate, never taken off road, never pull anything. well so much for honesty, because they basically told me to bad, so sad. i see toyota is recalling all the 2011 models for drive yolk failure, and i have seen quite a few complaints on various places online on the 2007 tundra

Abs, trac and 4hi warning lights all on while driving. vehicle abs and trac control all ceased to function. was driving in slippery road conditions. almost lost control of vehicle. after stopping vehicle, 4hi would not engage. this is 4th or 5th time this has occurred over the past 2 years. mostly occurs during cold weather but not always. have taken truck to dealer after these occurrences and 2 of the times the dealer has been able to replicate the situation. when truck is in state of flashing lights, the truck always returns to normal when you turn off vehicle, wait and then restart it. dealer has replaced parts now 4 times and still having the same problem

I took my 2007 tundra for a modification of the pedal to toyota. on the date below. i am concern about the way the pedal is working. every time the truck bounces or hits a bump, my truck accelerates, because of the sensitivity of the pedal. it did not do that before. i am in the process of taking it back. as soon as i can take some time off of work again. i just thought you might want to know how the modification is working on my tundra. thank you for your time. *tr

Vehicle hard to stop with a/c or headlights on. engine idles normally 5-600 rpm, until parking lights or a/c is turned on. then it idles at 800 rpm in gear. sometimes it feels like you've been rear ended, after coming to a stop. if driving surface is slippery and put into gear with head lights on, the rear tires will begin to spin, without touching the accelerator. this is a daily occurence that has been taken to different toyota dealers with no relief. all they can say is that the computer says everything is okay. turning the parking lights on does not cause enough load on the engine to warrant the extra 200 or more rpm. the other day ( 01/26/2010 ) i was turning around in a muddy driveway and while idling i turned the steering wheel to the left. i let my foot off the brake and the truck went straight, even as i applied the brakes, leaving two big ruts through my friends yard. this was caused by the ground being slippery and the high idle speed. i am sure that this will cut down on the life of the brakes. 4.7 v8 engine *cn

Tl- the contact owns a 2007 toyota tundra. while parked the contact noticed the two plastic pieces that surround the gear shifter were bent and had crumbled which makes it difficult to place the gear shifter in the desired gear. the gear shifter gets caught in between the plastic. the contact had to push the plastic down in order to move the shifter. also, the vehicle does not recognize when the gear shifter was in park until the contact pushes down on the two plastic pieces. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technicians stated the two plastic cover pieces attached to the gear shifter needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 63,000. ds

I bought my 2007 tundra 6/30/2007 ran great until around 18,500 mi. at that time the transmission started making a banging noise which it felt like the 05 4 runner. the 4 runner still does it but it runs and drives fine. the tundra is getting really bad as it is grinding and and banging. i have been in contact with toyota from my area and they keep saying i have to bring it in to have it checked. i have had several appointments and they usually call and cancel the appointment. i contacted different corporate exc's and one from california called and made an app. and i was there for it. i waited for 1 1/2 hours and the rep didn,t show. i am now going to send mr.akio toyoda, president of toyota a certified letter. his address iscorporate headquarters* 1 toyota-cho toyota city, aichi 471-8571 japan phone: 81 5 6528 2121 fax: 81 5 6523 5800 i hope everyone that has a problem will send a certified letter to him and let him know how embarrassed the toyota co. should be for the way they are handling the problems. i for one will go back to gm as they will half try to help

I have a 2007 toyota tundra sr5 double cab and have had all of my regular maintenance completed on time and at a local toyota dealership. i have made the complaint of my gas pedal sticking and my floor mats were not an issue. they claim they fixed the recall problem with adding a part to the gas pedal. since i have had my truck back, it has not worked properly. the gas pedal still accelerates on its on or decelerates on its on. the gas pedal floats with your foot so the engine is constantly making the rpm's rise and fall constantly upon riding over bumps or hills. i don't want a part to be installed, i want the entire pedal to be replaced! i like my truck, however, the engine does not run correctly and is constantly making a ticking sound like a diesel engine would sound. i have made several complaints to the dealership and they are constantly telling me it is ok and nothing is wrong. transmissions are not made to just down shift 3 gears right off the bat on the interstate on flat ground. nothing has been done to try to correct this problem as they proclaim there is no problem. they are crazy! pulling a horse trailer made it difficult for the transmission to shift properly and it was in tow mode. it took 1 mile or longer for it to shift from 1/2 gear to 4 gear and the rpm's were over 2,500.. this is not normal. i felt it would never shift downward from 1/2 gear. i am afraid to pull my horses with the transmission acting this way. *tr

I own a 2007 toyota tundra - 4x4. several times i noticed that it had moved from where i parked it. it had moved from the spot that i had placed it and rolled backwards, down a fairly steep grade, a distance of around 20 feet. i tried several times to replicate the incident and discovered the following: when parked on a hill without the parking brake engaged the transmission would not lock in park while the truck was in 2 wheel drive. this condition can be replicated only when the truck is placed into park immediately after having the anti skid (traction control) respond to a slippery condition. the problem does not occur when the truck is placed into 4 wheel drive. the problem also does not occur if the automated anti skid response does not activate itself. the rolling does not always begin immediately. i have not yet tried to get the same responses while backing the truck up the hill in reverse. i reported this to the local toyota dealer in warren, ohio on tuesday, december 22, 2009. i am very concerned that this condition may cause serious injury or death to anyone who may find themselves behind the vehicle when it begins to roll. *tr

A friend and i were attempting to launch his jetski. i backed my truck down the boat ramp and my friend was on the jetski. my friend was having trouble getting the jetski to come off the trailer so, i put the truck into park and got out to shove the jetski off. as i got out i noticed the truck lunge and start to roll backwards. i attempted to reach my foot back in to hit the brake. by this time my shoes were wet and because of the position of my body, my foot slipped off of the brake pedal and smashed the gas pedal which caused truck to take off in reverse. as i was still halfway in and out of the truck the door drug me down the boat ramp and under the water with the truck. luckily i was able to get free and had no serious injuries. the truck however was fully submerged and the jetski trailer was broken in the process. note: the original transmission was changed out under a warranty claim at around 10,000 miles by the dealership. *tr

I have a 2007 toyota tundra crewmax i feel a clunk in the transmission or rear end a few seconds after i come to a complete stop. it feels as if some other car has bumped me in the rear and there are no other vehicles around. on some occasions the thump is much worse than other times. this started several months ago and i thought it may have had something to do with a sudden stop i made when an animal crossed the road in front of me. i haven't had my dealer check this yet but i now realize others are having the same problem so i will get it to the dealer soon. i have approximately 26,000 miles and close to warranty expiration. *tr

My 2007 toyota tundra lunges forward very often. it does it when i'm coming to a stop. it will do it as i'm decelerating or even after i've come to a complete stop. i hit my wife's car in the rear bumper this week while i was following her. that is what has finally pushed me over the edge to make a complaint. since i've done research on this problem it seems like everybody is running into the same issue with 2005 tundras and up. this needs to get fixed before somebody gets seriously injured. *tr

After parking the truck for about an hour, i went back into the truck . as i started the truck the 4-wheel lo light appeared on the dash with an indicator beep. the problem with this is that the truck was in 2-wheel drive and never engaged in any 4-wheel operation. at the point of this i tried to put the truck in reverse and it was not there it was neutral, so then i shifted into drive and that was neutral also, i repeated this 4 or 5 times in disbelief. at that point i put the vehicle in park and exited the vehicle not realizing that the vehicle would have no park. i then walked along side the truck and so it roll down my driveway and hit the garage. the truck only rolled about 20 feet approx, but caused about $5,000.00 in damage between the 2. i preceded to then call hoffman toyota and explain. the dealer was accommodating at first offering a loaner vehicle while they ran tests. the service manager told me that in all his time in the business he never heard of such a thing, saying only operator error could cause this. my frustration level was rising but remained calm. along the way i was talking to toyota corp about my problem and had a case manager appointed to me. toyota corp had sent a field tech to the dealer for further review. his test also showed no vehicle error found and that no related cases of transmissions coming out of park. he also indicated that this would only be possible from operator error. so i now had to take responsibility for my house garage and truck repair. after picking up the vehicle i had a friend ask me if i looked into the ntsb.gov website, and i said no, we then proceeded to the site and it took approx. 10 seconds to see a related occurrence with a 2007 tundra with 16,000 miles and happened twice to the individual. i feel very uncomfortable parking this truck thinking this could happen again, it is clear that there is some type of electronic malfunction and what causes this to happen at will is unclear. *tr
