Tl-the contact owns a 2007 toyota yaris. the contact stated while driving 25 mph smoke started coming from the driver side window. the vehicle was merged on to another street and the fire department was notified. the fire department put the fire out and reported it was an electrical fire. they took the door panel off because all the wires was melted. this caused the window to stay open on the vehicle. a report was available if need no one was injuired. the dealer was not notified. the manufacturer was notified who stated they will give her a return call within the next two days but it has been over eight days. the vehicle was still drivable. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 70,000. mw

The reason i decided to send this report is because i have seen this problem with the same type of vehicle before, i own a driving school with 4 toyota yaris from 2007-2009 and had a problem with a burn smell and smoke coming out from the power switch, we turn the car off and when we took the door panel apart we notice the power switch had burn. we purchase another power switch thinking that we did not wanted the car catch a fire. now about 2 weeks ago we experience the same issue with another yaris. and this time the fire was a bit bigger than before. since we had to take the disconnect the power switch and blow the fire out ourselves. this problem could have been worst since the power switch is sitting on a type of foam that if it catches fire it will easy spread and hurt someone. if i could please get some information if toyota will be recalling this issue. i do not want to spend another $200 for a new power switch. thank you

Recurrent accelerator pedal failure (drive by wire) with check engine light warning. occasionally, when accelerating, the check engine light comes on and the pedal depressing action initially has no effect for several depressions and then it works minimally. this may last for a while or for just a short period. it has happened several times. i did a search online and other people are having the same problem.

Air bag warning light came on at about 75,000 miles. only the dealership could diagnose problem. ended up being the spiral cable. $530 for parts and labor to replace. i was given no explanation of why it had gone bad or if it was a defective item to begin with. when i type in a search on the internet for spiral cable, the majority of the posting involve toyotas.

1.events leading up to the failure: on several occasions my car seem not accell properly-i would have my foot on gas pedal and it would not go any faster and the car made noise similar to overheating or fanbelt with vibration-but the car would slow down when applied brakes-after letting car drift for a moment the car jolted then seemed to be fine-also, a week prior to the failure there was a clicking noise coming from the general area of where there was a recal corrected on my car a few months ago-i'm not sure if that has any relevance-2. the failure that occured was: as i was trying to reach approx 50-60mph my vehicle failed to accelerate passed 40mph-i noticed that even when i pressed the gas pedal all the way down the car still did not accel pased 40mph then i noticed the lever on spedometer was not move from 40mph even while having gas pedal pressed all the way down-then i applied brakes and car did slow down but the lever on spedometer still was not moving from 40mph while breaks applied and car speed decreassing-there was a noise from engine similar to the sound of overheating or fanbelt and was vibrating- and then after letting it drift then it jolted and then seemed to be fine - that was the first time it happened with spedometer not moving and while i was on the highway trying to reach 50-60mph-consequence:as i was changing lanes-there was car behind me in the lane i changed into and that is when my car did not accel and stayed at 40mph-the car behind me almost hit into me after i changed lanes and i was heading toward traffic that i was needing to merge into at atleast 50mph 3.the problem has not been repaired-the dealership has not been able to simulate/diagnose the problem-my car is still there i am afraid to drive it-i returned the dealers car and left mine-they would not let me read the diagnostic papers before signing -i want to know if edr and the electonic throttle control system has been checked

To whom it may concern: my name is katherine aguayo maldonado, resident of gurabo, puerto rico. the reason of this letter is because i have a big problem and i need to know how you can help me. i am proprietor of a car toyota yaris of year 2007, clear green color. at dawn of the past monday march 17, 2008 the car caught fire in my residence apparently by a short circuit. the vehicle already turned a year since i bought it and has less than 10,000 miles. i proceed to make a claim to the insurance agency. the insurance company sent a electromechanical expert to verify my car on april 8, 2008. the electromechanical expert verified the car, but he cannot determinate from where the failure came, because the vehicle caught fire by the part airbag of the passenger and by the lateral center of the side of the driver. that was, two isolate fires. the electromechanical determined that it was a factory defect because the vehicle never has ben taken to the dealer where i bought it nor has been altered since the vahicle is new of factory. therefore, the electromechanical expert determined that it a fault of the manufacturer. by such reason, i let know my case to know in what form someone can help me. i am a disabled person that i need an automobile to attend continuous madical appointments and the insurance company informed me that they cannot make me any reimbursement by the monney already paid by an entire year and in addition, they informed me that i must continue paying the vehicle until as much the insurance settles the account to the bank. i understand that this is not fair and that i need any help from you to solve this matter as soon as possible since i have lost many medical appointments beacuse i have no transportation. waiting for any news from you, i remain, sincerely, katherine aguayo maldonado *tr
