I thought my first new car purchase (a 2000 jetta vr6 gls) was a lemon. i, like many others, have experienced several problems. problems such as: - rear cup holders broken - middle/rear seatbelt locked, cannot be used - 02 sensors both replaced since mil light kept illuminating - mas sensor replaced (and later recalled) - both front windows have fallen to the black hole (and later recalled; including a recall to the recall b/c they went from metal clips to plastic or vice versa) - paint peeling from inside door handles - alarm system faulty on passenger side door (dealer told me that unless the car beeps at me, the alarm is not secured. so, i must lock the door. stand by for 15 seconds, lock the door again and this time when the car beeps, the passenger door is secured. and, furthermore, (this is good - keep reading) i was told that if i drive too close to a jea bus, their bus computer systems are run on the same channel as my jetta's computer system and sometimes being too close to a jea bus will cause my cars computer system to scramble). computer system can be reset, and did you know that while resetting, vw can make your car beep in different patterns? that's probably a feature! - center console/armrest latch broken - large spring sits underneath my passenger side front seat - seat belt no longer click, indicating locked in position (dealer told me it still works. so, now i have to push it down and then tug on it, hoping that it really is locked -- if not, i may fly out that recalled window.) - child restrain seat locks recalled - trunk lock wouldn't stay latched - front fender separating from body of car - grinds going into second gear (manual transmission) - when car is put into 1st gear, it waits a few second before it gets enough power to fully accelerate - brake dust covers alloy wheel, in just hours of cleaning drivers wanted...but they're all in the dealer waiting room! *ak

Rt rear and left rear windows have pinch protection that activate sometimes when there is nothing in the window bloking it and i have to push the button 3 times to close it and after the second time the pinch protection turns off. ...(2) the rt front seat belt will not pull down all the time it feels like it is locked in the position you must pull hard several times to get it to work and most of the time it won't come down at all. drivers side works fine, but pass side does not work at all sometimes. took to dealer and it didn't happen to te service worker but the service advisor could not get it to pull down, service worker took apart and found nothing wrong, but it did not work for me that night i got it home.

Entered my 2000 vw jetta gls, went to put the seat belt on and the seat belt was broken. the seat belt does not retract. this was working fine when i had entered the vehicle 30 minutes before on the same day. in reading the manual for my vehicle it stated that this is a three-point safety belt and that they are equipped with belt tensioners. sensors activate the belt tensioners in frontal collisions. this tensioner can only be activated once and then needs to be replaced. my vehicle has never been involved in an accident by me or according to the carfax report. unless it wasn't reported. this has not been replaced as it will cost $300 to replace this part. only authorized dealerships can replace this as it cannot be repaired without using special procedures that are required. this car is too new to be having a problem with an important safety device. *nm

While driving 55 mph vehicle had a frontal impact with a stalled vehicle, and driver's/passenger's airbags did not deploy, which did not protect the occupant in this crash. also, the seatbelt did not retract, causing driver to fly into the steering wheel and sustain injuries. dealer did inspect the vehicle, and determined no problem with airbag system and seatbelt. *ak
SEAT BELTS - REAR

Hi, it seems as if many 2000+ vw jettas have defective rear center seat belts. when you fold down the rear seats, the center seat belts will retract in such a way that it is impossible to move the seat back to the upright position without disconnecting the seat belt. many people, myself included, just permanently disconnect the center seat belt to avoid such problems. i have experienced several other recalls that seemed less dangerous than this problem could potentially be with 5 people in the car. could you investigate how frequent this safety issue occurs and possibly initiate a recall? i had this fixed once before, but apparently the fix didn't last. thanks, neil kumpers. *nm

Seatbelt would not release tension; 6 year old daughter was sitting in the front passenger seat and was trapped in the seatbelt. my husband attempted to pull the seatbelt to get release the tension but it was unsuccessful. this action just made the seatbelt tighter. the seatbelt had to finally be cut off of my daughter. mr
