I have a 2000 volkswagen jetta and within the past 2 months my driver side window just fell down into the door. there's little plastic clips that hold the window on track and they broke. but you cant buy those clips, you have to buy the whole door assembly. 2nd yesterday, oct 6th, my passenger window just fell down into the door, and again, the same thing. i search alot of vw related forums where people around the nation have the same problems and have file numerous complaints with vw and complaints with consumer affairs. why hasn't vw issued a recall for these clips? i cant afford the outrageous prices to have both of my windows fixed so i have them taped with duck tape to hold them up. please look into this and figure out why nothing has been done about this. one woman said she had her car in the shop 8 times and they keep breaking. you can verify this through consumer affairs. under vw jetta categories. please respond, i just want a dealership to fix my windows, my car doesn't have a warranty anymore. its a 2000 model. *tr

Most recently, the water pump failed. apparently this is another common failure, which should be covered by a recall. here is the list of other problems i have had: -both window regulators failed (covered by recall) -tensioner pulley on serpentine belt failed at 40000 miles ($400) -maf sensor at 47000 miles (covered by recall) -catalytic converter failed 50000 miles (covered by emissions recall) -alternator failed at 55000 miles ($450 - using rebuilt alternator) -water pump failed at 60,000 miles ($350 repair bill). the question is...what's next? i plan to sell the car within the next few months. *jb

I purchased a 2000 vplkswagen jetta in the year 2002, pre-owned. i have had nothing but problems with it since i bought it, and now am trading it in, and taking a $3000 loss. here is a list of the problems i have had in the last 2 years listed from first problems to most recent: 1. window tray broke, window fell into the door. $300 2. trunk latch broke, had to get replaced $50 3. sunroof broke, would not move and needed the entire thing replaced including the motor. $1800 4. water pump leaked out all coolant, needed to be replaced $ 600 5. strut coil snaped in half while driving, needed to replace both sides $500 6. lastly, (this is the point when i decided to file a complaint and trade the car in for another brand) water leaking from the electrical panel on top of inside roof. sunroof then malfunctioned, opening when the car was started and the knob was not touched. had to pay to disconnect power sunroof. whatever you do, please, do not buy a vw jetta. that is unless you want to have it continually in the shop and having to spend a lot of money on repairs. *ak

Bought the car in 2000. 3 months after that i had brought the car to a carwash (handwash) no waxing was done. the next day, there were spots on the hood of my car. the clear coat had come off. i took it to the dealer in sunnyvale, ca and he said it was the carwash companies fault. they had left the car out side with wax on it. i had no proof that the car wasn't waxed, but i did not pay for it. the next problem happened in 2003. my o2 sensor went out. a little over a year later, the maf sensor went out. 5 months after that, the turbo cutoff valve went bad and 1 day after that was repaired, the drivers side window decided to drop into the door. the car is a 2000 with only 55k miles on it. it has had all oil changes and basic maintence done that is needed. this should not be happening already!*ak

I thought my first new car purchase (a 2000 jetta vr6 gls) was a lemon. i, like many others, have experienced several problems. problems such as: - rear cup holders broken - middle/rear seatbelt locked, cannot be used - 02 sensors both replaced since mil light kept illuminating - mas sensor replaced (and later recalled) - both front windows have fallen to the black hole (and later recalled; including a recall to the recall b/c they went from metal clips to plastic or vice versa) - paint peeling from inside door handles - alarm system faulty on passenger side door (dealer told me that unless the car beeps at me, the alarm is not secured. so, i must lock the door. stand by for 15 seconds, lock the door again and this time when the car beeps, the passenger door is secured. and, furthermore, (this is good - keep reading) i was told that if i drive too close to a jea bus, their bus computer systems are run on the same channel as my jetta's computer system and sometimes being too close to a jea bus will cause my cars computer system to scramble). computer system can be reset, and did you know that while resetting, vw can make your car beep in different patterns? that's probably a feature! - center console/armrest latch broken - large spring sits underneath my passenger side front seat - seat belt no longer click, indicating locked in position (dealer told me it still works. so, now i have to push it down and then tug on it, hoping that it really is locked -- if not, i may fly out that recalled window.) - child restrain seat locks recalled - trunk lock wouldn't stay latched - front fender separating from body of car - grinds going into second gear (manual transmission) - when car is put into 1st gear, it waits a few second before it gets enough power to fully accelerate - brake dust covers alloy wheel, in just hours of cleaning drivers wanted...but they're all in the dealer waiting room! *ak

My car is nightmare of failures. cruise control light (dealer claims the car doesnt have one - but you can see it if you use a flashlight at an oblique angle) failure, abs module switch failure (according to dealer) causing cruise control to unexpectedly disengage. i also learned from other motorists that the same switch controls brake light illumination (all bulbs and other signal lights work). fuel injection module over injected gas causing excessive pressure. relief valve failed to open causing turbo overpressure to +120psi. failure caused hoses to blow sending hose clamps as projectiles. this week, the front passenger side window unexpectedly dropped into the door. dealer has literally taped the window up until a part arrives. dealer admits to mfg design defect - no voluntary recall. no dealers will voluntarily replace clips until they fail. volkswagen position is that they know there is a design flaw, but wont replace known bad clips until there is a failure. window failure could cause objects (stones kicked up by tires of other cars) to hit passengers. infant / child safety risk. window integrity questionable in an accident if it fails when driving 15mph. help!*ak

Both front windows on my jetta fell down into the door while driving down the road. the window was up and without me touching any controls it just fell into the door. both front doors fell within 1 week of each other. i am concerned about this happening when a family member is traveling the roads of this rural community. we get snow in october that lasts through may. if we get caught out in a snow storm and the windows fall down inside the doors we are in trouble. i have checked the web and found th is to be a normal problem now being experienced in the 2000 vw jetta. i called vw representative aaron geister, (800)822-8987 who told me that i was out of warranty so i was out of luck. i am under two years but my 75000 miles put me out of luck. i argued that this was not normal wear and tear on a vehicle. windows should not unexpectantly fall out of any vehicle without warning. i called the lithia dealer to get my car fixed and was told it will be awhile as the regulator part is on back order. he told me that tjhere was a bunch of 2000 jetta owners waiting for the exact same servcie. this poor design is going to get somebody killed. vw needs to do a recall and fix the regulator not with another regulator just like the one that fails after two years but a new set up that prevents the window from sporadically falling into the door.*ak

From what i have seen and heard, this is a too familiar problem with late model volkswagens. the window made a strange clicking sound and then the window fell all of the way into the door unexpectedly. apparently volkswagen is aware of the problem and has re-engineered the part. if this is the case, why are they not required to issue a recall for this item and repair/replace at no cost to the owner. i would consider this to be a safety concern. what if a window failed while driving in the rain or snow?*ak

Power window regulator breaks prematurelly causing window to fall down into door. problem occurs with either door on both the two door and foue door jetta and golf. there is a long list of owners that have had this problem and have recieved very little assistance from dealer or vw about issue. most of the complaints can be viewed on the internet at, www.vwvortex.com. look for the foroum section, then proceed to jetta and golf iv. do a search for window regulators and volla you will find a long list of owners how have made complaints to the dealers and to vwoa about issue. vwoa stance has not been set as a whole as of yet, it seems that they will straddle the gate on this issue until someone makes them accountable. and without vwoa addmitting that there is a problem, the dealerships will continue to deny that there is a defect and make the owner liable. please, can you investigate this matter and give the majority of uus vw owners some relief. thank you

Back door window regulators malfunctioned upon activation, on several occasions. the windows were rolled down to defog, and then failed when trying to close. i had to press the button several times for them to go back up. dealer will not fix because they cannot duplicate the problem. this is a known issue with the volkswagen dealerships and service departments, and many feel it should be recalled. they have failed on me before, and i don't want this happening when i am away from home, leaving my car vulnerable to rain or other weather damage, as well as theft and vandalism.

*ak

Date of first known problem provided. have already been through bbb autoline regarding most of the defects listed and thought manufacturer had fixed them. now vehicle has the same problems plus more. all work being done at dealership is at manufacturer's expense, however, this car is a major inconvenience due to unreliability. electrical problems aren't solved with replaced wiring harnesses, unsafe door hinges and window regulators make for hazardous driving conditions, airbag sensor problems, and quick to wear out rear brakes are all very dangerous defects for a new car owner to suffer with. dt

While i was driving, the driver side window in my brand new vw jetta collapsed inside the door and broke. i could not roll up my window. when i brought the car in, they said this is very common, due to hot weather. i think a recall is in order, to replace the part that cannot handle hot weather, and alert the public. thank you.
VISIBILITY - WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER

Whenever you use the windshield washer, some of the fluid gets into the vent and you can smell it in the cabin and even sometimes taste it as you are driving. i believe windshield washer fluid is toxic. i have two late model volkswagens, they both do this everytime. i've never experienced this with any other car i've driven before.

This car has literally come unscrewed since i purchased it 2.5 years ago-parts inside and out! most recently the axle came unscrewed for no reason and the bolts snapped. the windows have malfunctioned and the rear suspension had to be screwed back together shortly after i bought it. the plastic covering underneath also fell off for no reason-also while i was driving. the windshield wipers have come unscrewed twice and ceased to function once on the highway at high speed during a rain storm. the glove compartment and cup holders have all fallen out. i bought this car new 2 1/2 years ago and i know fear for my life every time i get into it. i have reported this to both the dealer and to volkswagen. neither have expressed any concern whatsoever. dt
