A 2001 vw jetta has an issue with a metal spring that is part of the front passenger seat. the spring separates from the mechanism that keeps the seat from sliding forward. there is no specific reason the spring becomes loose from the car seat and one would never know if the spring is not attached, it could cause major harm to the driver and passenger in the event of an accident. the seat remains locked in a position, but if the car is involved in an accident, the seat could slide forward, causing injury. vw refuses to cover the part as a safety recall and is charging hundreds of dollars to fix the problem. other issues are : cars plastic part are getting broken . in my car : glove compartment handle is broken rim fell off from sun roof . it would have fallen on me or passenger and caused distraction to driver. *nm

A large spring fell from under the front passenger seat for no apparent reason. vw service stated the spring held the seat to the rail and was an exteme safety hazard; if involved in an accident the seat would come loose from the rail. vw stated since our car was out of warrenty they could not fix it on their costs (2001 volkswagon jetta). this is a very expensive repair, and since it is such an extreme safety hazard i feel vw should take this responsibility. the exact same spring has come loose from my sons 2001 jetta as well. this indicates to us that this is not an isolated situation.*ak

Since i have had my jetta i have had to keep oil in the trunk because the car burns oil, i was told by the dealer that it is normal for a car to use that much oil, i have had to have the brake switch replaced, the arm rest latch replaced, cd player replaced twice, my passenger rear brake lights burn out regularly (only passenger side), my key in the ignition alarm and lights left on alarm turned and stayed on everytime i drove my car. the dealer's solution to all these problems was to downgrade my car and buy a vw beetle. i purchased a 2002 used beetle - dealer allowed me take car and promised to fix anything on the following monday. there was a light on the dash that was lit up called epc - i asked the dealer what the light was for and they said that the alignment needed to be adjusted no big deal they would fix it when i returned on monday. i drove the car off the lot got about 20 miles for the dealership and the car died on the freeway!!!!! while waiting for the tow truck i read in the car manual that epc stood for electric power control - it said if this light goes on do not attempt to drive - tow to dealership immediately - after that i marched right back to the dealer and got my jetta back - however i still have all of the above problems and few to add to the list defective electric window, noisy brakes when in reverse even after brakes were replaced. i can't wait to turn the piece of @#$%# in to the dealer when my lease is up and walk away - i just feel sorry for the fool they turn around and sell it to! *la

I am not satisfied with my 2001 jetta. one week after i purchased the car in aug 2001 the passenger and driver side seats started to move everytime i stepped on the brake. i took it to the dealership and they said nothing was wrong. a few months later i noticed that floor padding on the back seat area (both sides) started bulging. the dealership indicated that is normal for all 2001 jettas. i have several friends who drives vw and they never had the same problem with their floor paddings. a few months later, the window on the driver side broke. all in all my driver side and passenger side windows have malfunctioned 5 times. in addition to all these problems, the temp gauge also malfunctioned. the temperature gauge would move from extremenme heat temp tocold tem and vice versa. what upset me is that there are two current recalls for 2001 jettas and i havent heard from vw. i wasn't even informed about the window regulator problem.

Both front seats rock front to back on their tracks. i have reported the problem to two dealers for a total of four times. one dealer acknowledges the problem, and says that there is no fix, the other says that the rocking is normal. these seats rock too much. they are a distraction while driving, thus causing a safety hazard. this car is a lemon. the dealer that claims there is no fix for this problem could have easily replaced the seats. the dealer that says this problem is normal has other 2001 models with the same deats, all of which do not rock.

I was cleaning my vehicle and noted underneath the passenger seat frame a broken spring. i took my 2001 volkswagen tdi jetta in for inspection to the timmons of long beach vw dealership. i was told that the seat frame was defective and that the bottom seat would have to be taken apart to replace a new adjuster spring . i was told by the service manager that my vehicle was out of its two warranty period....although it has less than 24,000 miles as stated in my owner's manual. the warranty policies of volkswagen of america has changed in all models after 2002 since i bought the vehicle...giving other customers 4years or 50,000 miles. there has been numerous, horrendous quality issues concerning this vehicle including the problem i am currently experiencing with the vehicle. i don't feel the car is safe to drive with another passenger since the seat is not able to hold its proper position and could be a possible product liability issue if i ever was in an accident. furthermore, i feel this repair should be covered under a recall and i should not have to endure the costly repair.
