Defect SummaryVolkswagen is recalling certain model year 2007-2009 jetta, jetta sportwagen, golf and rabbit, as well as model year 2006 -2010 new beetle and new beetle convertible vehicles equipped with 2.5l engines. the jetta, jetta sportwagen, golf and rabbit vehicles may have a small plastic tab located on the windshield washer fluid reservoir that may chafe against an underhood fuel supply line. the new beetle and the new beetle convertible vehicles may have a fastening clamp on a hydraulic hose of the power steering system that may be located in an improper position which could cause chafing against an underhood fuel supply line.
Consequence SummaryIf chafing occurs, there is the potential for a fuel leak to develop. fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire.
Corrective SummaryDepending on the vehicle model, dealers will either remove the plastic tab from the windshield washer fluid reservoir, or inspect the position of the fastening clamp and adjust the related fastening clamp into the correct position. this service will be performed free of charge. the safety recall is expected to begin on or before january 31, 2011. owners may contact volkswagen at 1-800-822-8987.

 Tl-the contact owns a 2007 volkswagen passat. the contact stated that whiel driving in a snow storm the windshield wipers would stop operating due to the heavy volume of snow. this caused for his visibilty to be obscured. the vehicle was inspected by a dealer and informed him that there is no repair for it, but they could get the wipers back to operating. the vehicle was repaired for the windshield wipers. one year later the failure has occurred again. the failure mileage 40,000. tb

 2007 volkswagen jetta had a rattling noise in the windshield. consumer states that the noise grew in intensity and annoyance. he tried to find the location of the noise and lightly tapped the windshield and it cracked. *nj the consumer stated after the windshield cracked, the air bag light illuminated. the dealer claimed a rock may have hit the windshield, however the consumer stated that was not the case. the dealer also stated the air bag light illuminating had nothing to do with the cracked windshield. the dealer fixed the air bag problem, but they did not fix the windshield. *jb
