 Car stalled again after new exhausted flap was installed (1ko-253-691-e ) . as per other older complaint odi # 10476791.vw paid $646 for new part but refused to pay labor $183.93. now on the new exhaust flapper they gave me a new part free,but it cost me $529.63 for new sensors along with labor for the install. per the auto shop there has been a lot of changes in this part . the customer is engineering this part for vw. *tr

 Car is 2009 volkswagen jetta tdi 2.0l common rail inter cooled turbo diesel.l issue occurs after driving in below freezing weather, and attempting to restart after weather has gone above freezing (such as driving to work in freezing weather, temps warm up during the day, occurs on attempt to drive home). vehicle will start, then die after a very brief run of 5 seconds or less. restarts will range to very long cranking before a very rough run, or no cranking with all lights an equipment going out due to very high amp draw on starter motor. water and oil is noted dripping from the inter cooler piping as it leads to the engines intake. piping removed to allow some water to drain out. after several attempts of 1 revolution at a time, car will start to turn more and more if a pause of 30 seconds between attempts is allowed. suspected water sucked into combustion chamber and hydro-locking engine. water is suspected to seep past the piston rings into the crankcase while pausing between start attempts. this is proven with frothy moisture on the oil fill cap after each incident. suspected issue is moisture from egr system goes into intake air, and is freezing in the inter cooler in freezing weather. when weather warms up while the car is off, the water will pool in the inter cooler piping. upon attempted restart, water is sucked into the engine causing anywhere from some rough stumbling to full hydro-lock. incident has happened 6+ times in varying severity. issue is known to happen to co-workers car with the same turbo diesel engine on the same day. no codes thrown for any occurrence via obd tester. one time, the glow plug light flashed several times.

 My car caught fire today.car was parked while i was at the doctors, girl came into the office asked if anyone had a white car and that it was on fire. we called 911. the fire department put out the fire. yesterday i recieved a recall notice and i called the dealership today to set up a date to get it fixed. i asked if it was safe to drive. i guess it wasn't. the fire dept. thinks it might be electrical but the recall was for fuel injectors. the dealership set out a flatbed to tow the car back to there garage. not sure how it will turn out.

 Tl- the contact owns a 2009 volkswagen jetta. while the contact was driving approximately 70 mph, the engine warning indicator illuminated followed by the engine stalling. the vehicle failed to restart and was towed to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. the vehicle was repaired; however the similar failure occurred a second time and the vehicle was taken to a different dealer and repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 5,000. the vin was unavailable. kmj

 This concerns a 2009 vw jetta tdi (clean diesel version). car dashboard put out warning message engine malfunction then car began to sputter and lose power. electronic dashboard showed there was plenty of diesel gas in the tank (enough to continue driving 250 miles). (the car had been filled up with diesel gasoline on the day before, friday, and driven on a short trip that saturday during the day hours; driver had filled up at that station reguarly across the last 2 years since the car was purchased.) electronic dashboard also showed all other systems functioning regarding battery, temperature sensor, etc. driver was on busy city avenue in fullerton, california travelling at about 40 mph when sputtering began. car power slowly decreased to about 20 mph, but fortunately driver was able to make it through several green lights to a commercial area. fortunately saturday night traffic was not heavy, so a lane change to the right was possible without affecting other drivers who wished to go at a faster speed. car slowed down to about 5 mph as driver manuevered car for the last 500 feet into a gasoline station parking lot. car engine came to a complete stop. this was less than 5 minutes after the first engine malfunction warning on the electronic dashboard. attempts to restart the engine were unsuccessful; a clicking sound in the ignifition was heard. car engine subsequently would not turn over and had to be towed saturday night.

 30sep2011. while sitting at an intersection we noticed a rattling sound coming from our 2009 jetta tdi. could also feel a slight vibration through the shift lever and steering wheel. initial thought was an a/c clutch issue due to a squeeling sound that started. proceeded through the intersection and accelerated to approximately 30mph when the engine fault workshop light came on and the sound became very loud. we immediately pulled into a parking lot to investigate. loud metallic noises appeared to be internal to the engine not external. shut the car off and it would not restart. car was towed to mossy vw (classic volkswagon) in escondido, ca at closing time and will be troubleshot in the morning. 50,000 miles on the car. great dealer so far, service stayed late to assist and ensured we had transportation home. a quick online search revealed hpfp failures for 2009 vw tdi cars are becoming more common and unfortunately the manufacturer is not acknowledging and some dealers are blaming on fuel contamination with unleaded gas. owners are reporting $10,000 repair bills. we have our diesel fuel receipt from yesterday, 29sep2011, confirming correct fuel was used.

 Flashing glowplug warning light and loss of power while going 70 mph on turnpike. car went into limp mode allowing exit from turnpike. car traveled several blocks then stalled at stop light and would not start. car was towed to vw dealer and diagnosed with failed high pressure fuel pump and metal particles contaminating diesel fuel. dealer to replace entire fuel system.

 My 2009 jetta tdi engine started running rough when i pushed the clutch in while turning into a parking lot 3 weeks ago. i coasted to a parking spot and turned off the ignition. i started the car back up immediately to see if it was going to be ok and it sounded good so i shut it off. when i returned about 45 minutes later, the car started but sounded like it was running on only one or two cylinders and then died. i called a tow truck and it would not start at all when he arrived. the dealer asked if i had ever run gasoline through it. i said 'no, why would i do that?' he said that the entire fuel system needed to be replaced and that vw would pay for this 'one time' even though the warranty has run out. well, if they are at fault this time, they will be at fault the next time too. my concern is the next time. i drive on a 70 mph interstate 90 miles round trip to work 5 days a week. what are the chances that i will be lucky enough that it did not happen in traffic at that speed the first time and just where will i be when it happens again? if they are replacing this shredded high pressure fuel pump with the same model made of the same materials, it will happen again. is there ethanol being put into diesel in this country? what about the additives to diesel that are necessary for lubricity that are put in by the different companies? is one or more types of these the culprit? this problem is all over the internet and i hope that vw can come up with a permanent solution before someone is seriously injured - if it hasn't happened already. meanwhile - still waiting for my car to be returned to me.

 Glow plug indicator symbol flashing on dashboard. i had just left my house so i decided to drive around the block to get back to my house to check on the symbol. within one block the car lost power, the glow plug indicator came back on (flashing) as did the engine warning symbol. my car could now only clunk forward at about 5 mph. i made it over to the curbside, grabbed my manual, and walked home. i called the vw dealer and he said that he'd seen a couple of cases like this and that the car would have to be towed in. i had it towed to dealership (this was a saturday). on monday i heard that there was a problem with the fuel pump (hpfp) and that the whole fuel system would have to be replaced. luckily, i was still under warranty. it's a very expensive repair. more luckily, this power failure did not happen on the freeway, which is where i was heading. i could have been killed. please see this string of complaints about the fuel pump failure - which so far vw is denying is a problem: http://www.tdi-issues.com/hpfp-cases-tac68/. also, please pursue this as a safety issue and consider a recall. there has been no guarantee from vw that this repair will not stop the problem from occurring again. when my car is repaired, i will still feel unsafe, since vw will not admit the part was faulty and will not clarify that they have replaced the hpfp with a new, improved version.

 Tl-the contact owns a 2009 volkswagen jetta. while driving approximately 25 mph, there was a slight loss of engine power and the glow plug warning indicator illuminated. the warning indicator remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. the contact was able to continue driving. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they detected that improper fuel was consumed in the fuel tank. the vehicle was then towed to another dealer for a second opinion and the technician informed that the fuel system would need to be replaced. the repair was performed on the vehicle. the failure mileage was approximately 11,000. js

 From the first week i owned this brand new jetta tdi sportswagon (with a manual transmission) it would periodically faulter or momentarily lose power at about 38 mph. i drive quite a bit and the problem would occur randomly, perhaps every other day. i've yet to be able to duplicate the problem by recreating the driving conditions, but it always happens at the same speed, right after upshifting. i notified the dealership about the problem right away and they checked it out when i brought it in for it's first service appointment. as expected, the technician was unable to recreate the problem after a short test drive. this vehicle now has over 45,000 miles and the faultering continues to occur every few days.

 I recently purchased a 2009 volkswagen jetta tdi diesel car with a 6 speed manual transmission and 20,000 miles. i have notice that the car is extremely easy to stall when attempting to accelerate in first and second gears. it seems the injection timing may be too far advanced. i have driven lots of similar older model diesel cars in europe and elsewhere without any such problems. i do not know what to do to correct the problem. i have noticed that you must speed up significantly in first gear before shifting to second. the engine seems to be unable to lug at a low rpms.

 Ever since my 2009 vw tdi diesel auto was new, i have a problem with hesistation in stop and go traffic that is an emergency. if i suddenly stop, such as the end of the exit ramp on the interstate, and simultaneously turn the wheels to the left or right, then immediately attempt to acceleration, disaster. the car will move into the oncoming traffic (for about 2-3 seconds), then hesitate, leaving me stuck on the path of oncoming traffic! in about 3 to 4 more seconds, it will immediately accelerate, spinning the wheels and move! this has happened on several occasions, nearly placing me in fatal accidents! the dealer will not respond, or even contact the vw main factory/engineering regarding software updates, etc. the engine just momentarily 'goes to idle' before kicking in. it is as if the brakes were applied (in this car, if you touch the brakes, the engine immediately drops to about 600 rpm thru software control). so it appears there is a software problem, not an engine problem. engine otherwise performs beautifully, and so does the transmission. this has happened on several recurrent occasions, both in hot and cold weather, since sept 2008. *tr

 Tl*the contact owns a 2009 volkswagen jetta. while driving approximately 35 mph on normal road conditions; the transmission exhibited a pulling sensation and began hesitating intermittently. the failures progressed between 0 to 55 mph and the engine surged while maintaining speed. an authorized technician informed the contact that the problem was a manufacturers design without a remedy. the computerized system code was reset to the manufacturer's service code. the vehicle was inspected by an authorized dealer to further diagnose the failure. the contact had concerns of the safety risk involved. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 150 and the current mileage was 6,500.

 I own a 2009 volkswagen tdi. it now has just over 11000 miles. after only a couple thousand miles on the vehicle, i started noticing that the engine hesitates and in some cases produces severe bucking for maybe 2-3 seconds. during these incidents, the vehicle has less power and this can be a serious problem if one is trying to merge into traffic and suddenly has less power than anticipated to accelerate. the problem unfortunately can't be replicated on demand. it is more off a sporadic occurrence. i have taken the vehicle top the dealership 3 times and each time there is nothing that they can find wrong with the car. there are no error codes that show up when they use their diagnostic tools and they have not been able to replicate the issue. the only thing that was done to try to solve the issue was during the most recent visit to the dealership the fuel was sampled and left overnight in a freezer to check for gelling, i don't think it was sent to a lab for analysis. the fuel filter was also changed. these actions have not corrected the problem. *tr

 I bought my brand new 2009 jetta tdi on 5/28/2009 and 2 days later after i had only driven the car for 200 miles, the air conditioning stopped working when the car was sitting still. i opened the hood after i got to my destination to realize that the cooling fans were not working at all. they would not even come on to cool the engine. this occurred on a saturday, and the vw dealer where i bought it was closing in an hour. their master tech agreed to stay until i got there and he ran some tests on it, and told me he simulated a severe engine overheat and the fans still did not come on. he said the car could not be driven and it would have to stay at the dealer. he said the fan relay was faulty and would have to be replaced. then monday morning the service manager whom did not believe the master tech decided to drive my car with a non-functioning cooling system to see if he could replicate the problem. he called me to discuss the fact that the air conditioning worked while he was driving to which i said it will when you drive it, however, it does not work when your come to a stop because the fans do not turn on. he finally decided after a day of wasted tests to order the part. i finally got my car back today after they had it for 5 days of the first week i owned it. i am so glad i purchased the 100,000 mile warranty, because that sort of problem after 2 days of ownership does not say much for vw. everything was covered under warranty, but i was still without my car for just shy of a week. diagnosed part= cooling fan module failure. *tr

 My vehicle didn't start after 12 days of sitting, it also had a rough start (no start followed by driver assisted start) after sitting for about 9 hours. i believe the rough start was a related to the no start. date of no start: 12/29/10 location: philadelphia offsite airport lot mileage: > 20,000 got my 20k service two days prior to parking it on dec. 17. it snowed 22 on the 19th and then throughout the rest of the days it would thaw, freeze, rain etc. it rained approximately 3 during that time. got back dec. 29th at night. the engine tried to crank once and then didn't do much afterward. had it towed to the dealer (vw of langhorne) and they found water in the cylinders by removing the glow plugs and manually cranking the engine. after a couple of days messing with the dealer they finally dried out the engine and found water in the intercooler lines. ran fine until 2/1/10. dealer had me pay for their time because the only way this could happen is if i drove through a puddle or if it was in a flood. they are wrong. the parking lot is not valet (i kept my keys) and they have a snow removal service. snow was not plowed into or on top of my car. no other water damage was seen in or on the vehicle anywhere else. date of no start: 2/01/10 location: northeast of philadelphia mileage: 21,000 codes: none known significant weather before no start: cold, dry took to dealer (what was done): no ambient air temps: high 36 (f) low 21 (f) jetta started fine in the morning 6:30am. left work at 6:00pm and did not start. the sequence: 1) crank but didn't turn over 2) got it to turn over and start about 1 min later, no message on mfd 3) kept foot on accelerator in neutral at about 1300 rpm for 30-60 sec. 4) ran fine on 30 min drive home this is an unsafe condition that could result in significant problems if it takes a long time to get a tow in the winter. *tr

 I was driving my car when suddenly the engine quit,and all error messages came up. it was right in front of a busy intersection. i was unable to restart when tried at least 3 times. i waited about 5 minutes and then i was able to start. the sevice did not find anything wrong. i am worried that it can happen again and i will be not as lucky as this time to avoid someone hitting me from the back as the car unexpectedly just stops.

 I have a 2009 vw jetta tdi. i was in my work parking lot. started the vehicle, backed out driving out of the parking lot when the engine stopped and turned off. i coasted the vehicle into a parking spot. turned it off and restarted the vehicle. no lights came up and it started with no problem. i advised dealership of the problem and they checked it out and said it was ok, and to call if it occured again. it has not.

 2009 vw tdi jetta. engine runs rough, sutters at certain points and lacks power. will sometimes stall in traffic. have documented with dealers. vw america refuses to answer. vw has software fix, but will not apply it to vehicle. do people have to be killed before these people pay attention.

 Windshield wipers system failed in snow storm. parts replaced complete loss of engine power while driving in traffic. 8 times this has happened. dealer can not find cause. no start situation, twice. dealer can not find cause. transmission noise. dealer can not find cause, will replace transmission if noise continues. *tr

 2009 jetta tdi has an issue with sudden loss of engine power. usually 100% reproducible in warm climate usually happens within the first few minutes of starting engine while traveling at 30mph at 2k rpms while holding a steady speed. car will suddenly jerk and lose power one time then the remaining time will be without issue. on at least two occasions while pulling out into traffic the car has intermittently lost all power for a few seconds almost resulting in certain personal injury accidents. this was due to the fact that after starting the car i took a phone call before entering traffic. i feel that this is a temperature/time related problem as the time i was on the phone would about equal the time that when i normally would have left the lot the car would have had the hiccup/stutter. numerous complaints about this particular issue can be found on the internet and this has been documented that vwoa has been called about this but seems to not want to do anything to rectify the situation. *tr

 I had my 09 tdi towed into a v.w. dealer today for a major oil leak. the details are as follows: i parked my tdi in my driveway this morning after a local drive. no mechanical problems were observed. in the afternoon i went for another drive. i barely got out of my driveway when the cars oil light started blinking, and the mfd said stop the vehicle-low oil. i pulled back in my driveway and noticed several liters of oil on the ground under my car. i had my vehicle towed to the dealer by a flatbed tow truck. the service manager called me into the shop and showed me that the oil filters housing cap had been screwed loose, and placed on-top of the housing upside down. the cap had a small piece missing just before the threads begin. since the car had 1 1/2 quarts of oil still in the oil pan the service manager did not feel that any engine damage occurred. i explained to the manager that i had been home all day, that my car was locked, alarmed, and parked in my driveway. the manager insisted that someone did this damage to my vehicle. he could not explain how someone was able to get in the vehicle without the key, and without causing any damage or leaving any tool marks, or setting off the car alarm. i had my vehicles 10k service done at this dealership 800 miles ago. during that service the wrong oil was used, and the vehicle was severely overfilled with oil. these problems were caught by myself, and corrected before leaving the dealership. is it possible that the dealer caused a third problem during my 10k service, such as not properly tightening the oil filter's cap, or was my vehicle vandalized by a mission impossible impersonator? is it probable that engine damage occurred to the vehicle? if what the dealer said is true this vehicle has a severe security flaw! *tr

 Car stalled 5 times over a two day period duel to a failure of the fuel pump. dash board warning said engine fault workshop and glow plug warning light came on. owner manual said to bring into shop soon. dealership found metal shavings throughout the fuel system that was caused by a failed high pressure fuel pump. the warning lights first came on when their was a near empty condition in the fuel tank. i have heard that this has happened to others when fuel is low. cost for repair would have been around $6000, but vw warranty covered this. if this stall had happened on the interstate it would have been very dangerous. as it was i had a police car push me out of an intersection during rush hour to a safe spot.

 This complaint is for a 2009 v.w. tdi (diesel engine). when i press the accelerator pedal when the engine is not yet warmed up, and shortly after the vehicle is started a hesitation occurs. this is very dangerous when it happens in traffic. this was reported to platinum volkswagen on 1/6/09 during a vehicle courtesy check. the car dealer could not find the problem; however, the problem continues. this hesitation happens several times per week. *tr
