We were driving on a two lane highway. the cruise control was set. out of nowhere the car just quit. the gages went to zero. the car didn't have power. we coasted until we found a clearing where we could pull off the road. we were able to apply the brakes to come to a complete stop. we were very lucky we were able to coast far enough to find a spot to pull off. there was not an emergency lane on the road. the closest town was 18 miles away. we put the car in park and tried to start it without any luck. after awhile it did turn back on and we were able to drive to the dealership.

While leaving a concert, the vehicle was fine leaving the parking lot. once we increased speeds to 45 mph, the engine completely shut down. the dials on the dashboard all fell to zero and the gas pedel no longer worked. we coasted into a small campground area off to the side of the road. after trying to restart the car three times, it finally started and we proceeded to go down the road, only to make it 500 more yards and pulled in to a hay stack pad. after numerous attempts to start while sitting on the phone wiht our insurance company, the car started once and died after sitting idle for three minutes. we then attempted to start it one last time and drove 25 mph to the nearest gas station. we all got out of the car, locked it up thinking it may have something to do with an antitheft feature. we got back in the car and were able to drive 41 miles home at hiway speeds. the following day we drove 5 miles into town and it died again going 25 mph. the closest volkswagon is another 25 miles away.

This concerns a 2009 vw jetta tdi (clean diesel version). car dashboard put out warning message engine malfunction then car began to sputter and lose power. electronic dashboard showed there was plenty of diesel gas in the tank (enough to continue driving 250 miles). (the car had been filled up with diesel gasoline on the day before, friday, and driven on a short trip that saturday during the day hours; driver had filled up at that station reguarly across the last 2 years since the car was purchased.) electronic dashboard also showed all other systems functioning regarding battery, temperature sensor, etc. driver was on busy city avenue in fullerton, california travelling at about 40 mph when sputtering began. car power slowly decreased to about 20 mph, but fortunately driver was able to make it through several green lights to a commercial area. fortunately saturday night traffic was not heavy, so a lane change to the right was possible without affecting other drivers who wished to go at a faster speed. car slowed down to about 5 mph as driver manuevered car for the last 500 feet into a gasoline station parking lot. car engine came to a complete stop. this was less than 5 minutes after the first engine malfunction warning on the electronic dashboard. attempts to restart the engine were unsuccessful; a clicking sound in the ignifition was heard. car engine subsequently would not turn over and had to be towed saturday night.

I have a vw 2009 jetta 2.0t wolfsburg series, and it has been happening stallings from nothing. a lot of times when i start the car, it stalls by itself from nothing and sometimes would not start again. yesteday my wife was driving on the highway, and sudderly the car started to loose power unitl she was running at 20 milles per hour, when from nothing again. the car started running normally again. after she got home i took the car for a ride, and, one more time nothing happened. she drives the car for the most of time, but i had stalled with me, but i was able to restart the car right way. howerver, losing power on the highway is a new event, and i think is very dangerous. i had been at the vw dealership that i bought the car, wich is reeves imports at tampa, florida. when we took the car there for the scheduled maintenance, they were not able to find out what happened with the car. in fact, the car works perfectly, but it concerns me a lot that we have a car that can stall from nothing. i am aware that nthsa have received a lot of complains about these events, and i am pretty sure that vw knows about the problem, but it does make me worry, when nobody does nothing about that situation. what do they want happen? a event that can cause an accident with fatal victims?. i think the government has to take care that situation for the safety of the people that had purchased that vehicle.

I own a 2009 jetta tdi with a dsg transmission. i feel like i am going to get hit when i start from a stop. the transmission jumps and hesitates. it has been to the dealer with out being fixed. it is terrifying to drive a car that may or my not accelerate which also jumps in and out of gear!

Car, a 2009 vw jetta diesel tdi with manual transmission, suddenly stalls with no warning such as stuttering or power loss, just goes from full on to sudden off even when moving at steady speed---does so at a range of speeds mostly from about 15 to 45 mph and over no distinguishing conditions that induce the stall such as hot or cold or time car has been in use from start up -----there is no disceranble parttern re this stalling other than most often it occurs between 15 and 45 mph. car is driven daily about 100 miles mostly at highway speeds and was purchased new in 2009 and now has about 38,000 miles--problem did not occur when first purchased and has occured over the last year since about the 7500 mile mark and happens at least twice per month. problem does not appear to be electrical as fan, radio etc do not quit, just engine. car is as purchased and recieves service only from the vw dealer from whom it was purcahsed. car replaced a 20051/2 jetta tdi (also manual transmission) which did not experience any such problem. no accident has arisen from this stalling, however it is a safety concern and i have asked the dealer to check into the problem. to date car ahs had all required service and dealer has not idenitifed a source and reports no similar problem with other cars of the same type and vintage.

My 2009 jetta tdi was being driven up a slight incline. after the brakes were applied to stop on the incline, the engine just stalled. it was very odd. we just restarted the ignition and drove off. did not think it was a problem and thought it might have been our fault until we saw reports of similar occurrences in the same car model/year.

Fourth incident: three unsuccessful attempts by dealership to correct problem. problem has occured under different circumstances and driving conditions. speeds ranging from 65 mph to 20 miles per hour...generally while attenpting to accelerate. auto is a 2009 vw jetta equipped with the dsg transmission. car will go into neutral without prior warning. when this occurs, prndsl indicator light will flash as will apply brake warning light. on at least one occasion, simple application of brake cured the problem. in the latest case (today, march 20, 2010) i had to turn off the motor twice before the transmission would return to normal functioning. as stated, this has occured four times since i have owned this car. the car has less than 8,000 miles on the odometer
