2010 vw jetta 2.0 tdi cup edition: entering traffic in first gear, at about 4000-4200 rpm, car had a complete loss of power. engine did not die. i pushed in clutch and power returned. this has occurred monthly with no consistency since i purchased the car in july 2010. occurs with a warm engine. cold engine. various levels of fuel, and various climate conditions. it has been taken to o'brien volkswagen, a certified repair facility, every 3-6 months to have the issue resolved. dealership can not replicate the issue and as a result has not solved the problem. problem has been witnessed by three different passengers. a secondary stalling issue occurs between 1200-1800 with light gas peddle pressure. in this case, the car has a small pause or decrease in power. down shifting and accelerating eliminates the problem. *tr

While driving my jetta (diesel), the engine has stalled on multiple occasions. the first time it had stalled, my jetta was only 1 month old and i took it back to the dealer. the dealer found nothing wrong and stated that he had never heard of this issue occuring. the jetta stalled again over the subsequent 12 months of owning it and i once again took it to lee volkswagen dealership in fort walton beach. the maintenance manager stated nothing wrong. the jetta stalled a 3rd time just recently while i was making a right hand turn. i had children in the car and i was very concerned with their safety. in addition to the stalling issue, my jetta (over the first 2 years of owning the car) has had a new battery, new compressor and new interior lighting mechanism installed. i am very disgruntled with the repeated safety issues on this vehicle. the stalling makes me uncertain of my safety or my children's safety while driving this vehicle. it should be recalled and money refunded to the individuals who have purchased this model.

2010 vw jetta tdi common rail engine stalled while cruising at highway speed southbound on i-390 between geneseo and rochester, ny. when two attempts to restart car as normal failed, it was towed to dealer and repaired by replacing fuel injectors in cylinders 2 & 3 according to injector fault code that was generated. vehicle was returned to me, then exhibited same systems again. towed back to dealer whereupon discussion with vw tech line had dealer replace turbo intercooler, possibly due to extreme condensation and ice build up in the intercooler referenced by vw tsb # 21 12 01/2025464 frozen air charge cooler. after intercooler replacement, dealer notified me that the car is still exhibiting the same symptoms. discussions with vw tech line resulted in notification to me that the engine wiring harness seems to be the problem and advises replacement of that for $988 including parts and labor. hydrolock and catastrophic engine damage due to excessive condensation from emissions system design seems to be the more logical explanation, especially with the 112 and 234 pages respectively of posts of people with the same complaints on these well known forums: http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?5574701-tdi-intercooler-issue-design-flaw&p=75723976&viewfull=1#post75723976 http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=302863

On friday jan. 11, 2013, the vehicle (2010 vw jetta tdi) in question was traveling on an expressway at a speed of approximately 50 mph when suddenly the glow plug light and check engine warnings turned on the vehicle display and shortly afterwards the engine stalled. the vehicle stalled in the middle of the road but no accident occurred because there was no other traffic at the time of failure. attempts to start the engine failed.vehicle had to be pushed to the side of the road. vehicle was towed to service location to be diagnosed and results were indicative that the fuel pump failed catastrophically rendering the vehicle inoperable. excessive metal shards were evident on the fuel filter. vehicle has not yet been repaired pending a response from the manufacturer. same vehicle stalled in traffic after bought new at approximately 8000 miles on the odometer in 2010 but engine was able to be restarted. volkswagen dealership service department performed diagnostic for the 1st stalling incident and said there was nothing wrong. no service was performed to check fuel system at that time. *tr

The car abruptly decelerated from 65 to 35 mph on a major interstate as the engine went into 'limp mode'. the sudden deceleration caused swerving and i had to pull over to the curb in order to avoid an accident. the coil/check engine light turned on and car hesitated as it drove. this is the third incident that this car has had with the exhaust problem causing engine to force deceleration and abrupt stopping even stalling. the system this time diagnosed a defective exhaust control module/flap. the previous emissions issue while the car was under warranty involved defective egr valves. problem seems to show up every 10-15k miles on this diesel model. *tr

Happened last night, with my 6 yr old daughter in the car, and wife driving on the freeway! check engine light, and fuel injector/glow plug light blinking, car shutdown, but fortunately was able to pull off to the side but still next to freeway on/off ramp. car would crank over but not start. called aaa tow to vw dealer where the car was purchased. i drove the car earlier that morning on a fairly long trip (over 100 miles), and started noticing the fuel economy wasn't as good as i normally would get (40 mpg), but it was raining heavy that morning so that's what i attributed it to, but only seeing 30 mpg after all freeway driving was suspicious to me. vw dealer said the high pressure fuel pump failed and contaminated the entire diesel fuel system and all the parts will need to be replaced and fuel system cleaned out. *tr

While driving 65 mph on the freeway in oakland, ca, the engine malfunction light came on, my car began to slow down, and as soon as i exited the freeway the car stalled and stopped altogether, and would not restart. i was towed to the oakland vw dealership. they informed me that the fuel pump had failed, and had to replace the fuel pump, filter, fuel lines, etc. the dealer said that there were shards of metal throughout the fuel lines. this appears related to nhtsa engineering analysis ea11-003.

While driving on the highway with cruise control engaged at/around speed limit, i noticed the rpms jumping and could feel the car jerking, as if some kind of acceleration/deceleration was happening. i also notice rpms jump 50 up/down while idling. this seems to happen when driving down hills on cruise control, more prevalent in colder weather. no loss of control has occurred, but appears to be issue that is slowly worsening. *tr

2009-2013 model year volkswagen tdi vehicles sold in the united states contain an exhaust restrictor valve that controls the regenerative feature of the diesel particulate filter (dpf). this flap is experiencing abnormal failure rate between 25000 and 70000 miles. volkswagen is denying claims to replace these exhaust restrictor valves when they fail, and is asking customers to pay for replacement. long-term malfunction of this valve results in non-compliance. the valve design has been updated several times, indicating that a defect was present in the original design. reference: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=275066. *tr

When i started my car, a 2010 jetta sedan tdi, it started making a strange noise, but sitll ran. i tried to drive it over to the volkswagen dealer which was approximately 2 miles away. i pulled out onto the highway and achieved a speed of approximately 30mph. the car continued to make the noise and began to lose power within a half mile. i pulled into the parking lot of a shopping center at which time the engine died and would not restart. the car had to be towed to the volkswagen dealer, wallace imports of johnson city, tn. it took them approximately 1 1/2 weeks to get the parts in and repair the vehicle. the service representative explained to my husband that there was a castrophic failure of the high pressure fuel pump, which resulted in metal fragments contaminating the entire fuel system. as a result, he was told that every part which came in contact with the fuel had to be replaced, including the fuel tank, fuel lines, filters, fuel injectors, and many others. there was a two page list of the parts used to fix my car. my concern is that this could happen again resulting in an unsafe situation. further, we also have 2010 jetta tdi sportswagen and have concerns of the same problem occuring at highway speeds since imy husband routinely make round trips of 230 miles at least twice a week traveling mainly on the interstate.

I purchased my brand new vw jetta from the dealership lot. less than 4 weeks later when the car was in the driveway i started it, and as i pressed the gas down the car began to move (in a sputtering/jerking type of movemen)t but it was not able to go more than 7 feet before it stalled out,, and the rpm's were high and the car just moved like it was not able to properly accelerate, it stalled out before the end of my drive way. i started it again and it drove properly, this exact incident occurred at least1- 2 times a week on a cold start. i took it to dealership, nothing found on diagnostics.then at least every 1-2 months i took it to dealership, no proof on diagnostics .next a recall & work was done. same problem occurred again and again. took it back. they said they could not find a solution because its not repeating the stalling when its at dealership. i am still having the issue of my car stalling out when driving, it is a safety issue. it is dangerous driving a car that stalls out while you are on the road. since the cold start issues i have also had it stall out on the road, in an intersection. this car is still repeating the stalling. i cannot get any answers on how to fix it due to no proof on diagnostics check. i feel unsafe in my car. it starts to accelerate then shuts off. this is not acceptable and hasnt ever been properly fixed even thoughvw corporate has a case on the issues of my car..
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

I was at a light in first gear at a complete stop. the engine was idling rough. (not the first time, but vw couldn't find anything wrong). the rpm on idling is normally 800. it was up to 1,000. it sputtered twice and hiccupped from 1000 to 700 to 1000 to 700 in the period of 3 seconds. my clutch was in as was thebreak and i was in first gear since i was at a light but at a standstill. the car subsequently stalled without me having moved the car. the car restarted and i still detected the rough idle.

Ice in the air intake caused the engine to vapor lock which caused a bent piston rod. dealer is going to remove the factory air intake after installing a new engine under warranty and claims this is an engineered fix. dealer also said that volkswagen is working on some heater add on in the possible future. i suspect that the current fix is not a fix as the trouble was not when driving it was after the care set for a few days and ice formed in the intake. nhtsa should investigate to confirm the engineering issue is addressed correctly to protect consumers.

Vehicle hesitates, usually at lower speeds, but sometimes at highway speeds, and stalled completely in intersections twice. initally this was most often on a cold start, within the first 5-10 miles, but not consistently. it might do it once a day, once a week, or once every two or three weeks. i believe the problem to be fuel system related and not transmission. i have reported the problem to dealer with each service call (3 so far, i have 20k miles to date). dealer initially suggested bad fuel and to buy only chevron, but there is no correlation between fuel source and hesitation, no evidence of water in fuel filter, etc., and i usually purchase chevron fuel. dealer reported being unable to identify the problem without codes. vehicle hesitated again (11/25/11), within one block of driving after 20k service. i immediately returned to dealer, and they were still unable to diagnose. dealer has kept the car and contacted vw usa tech service, but remains unable to diagnose as of 12/2/11. my daughter purchased the same car 3 days after i bought mine and has the same problem (30k miles so far), but has not stalled in an intersection - yet. this is not our inability to drive a stick transmission - both of us have owned diesel jettas with manual transmissions for 10 years prior to our recent purchases. i contacted vw usa and have received the same message - unless they can diagnose a specific problem, there is nothing they can do, but they did suggest going to a different dealer. vw did perform a fuel line recall with my last service, but the hesitation remains. there are a number of reports of this problem on the web, but vw is unwilling to attempt any repair without a solid diagnosis. stalling in intersections and hesitation while driving are unacceptable performance for a car. period. i hope you can help. evenings or early ams are best time to call.

2010 vw jetta tdi with roughly 35,650 miles. while driving up the on-ramp to enter the interstate, glow plug dash light came on and warned to check engine now. within 20 seconds, the car lost all power, and luckily i was able to coast over to the shoulder of the interstate (with drivers flying by at 65+mph at 9:45pm). vehicle would not restart and had to be towed to the vw dealership. service rep claimed fuel contamination, with metal shards all throughout the fuel system. entire fuel system has to be replaced ($10,000 repair) with equivalent, new parts. according to vw service technicians, the parts have not been updated despite vw's knowledge of this problem. as a result, fuel contamination could happen again, and the car could shut off while driving at any time without notice. this is a very serious safety concern. luckily, because i was driving at night, there was not a lot of congestion on the road. had this happened during rush hour, there very likely would have been a severe accident. vw claims the problem is a result of the poor quality of american diesel fuel supply, saying the tdis are designed in germany to run on 100% diesel that's found in europe. if this is the case, why are they selling german designed cars in the united states that doesn't have fuel supplies that are 100% diesel? volkswagen needs to issue a recall of the 2009/2010 jetta tdi.

While driving at 35mph, car stalled out. battery light flashed, radio etc stayed on, but car had no power at all. rolled to next intersection, turned car off, and restarted it. took it to dealer, they said it was a software update, which they then performed. aug. 24 exiting i95, 65mph, same thing happens, i pressed the gas and the engine was totally dead. lights and radio stayed on. once again i rolled to a stop, and restarted the car. took it to the dealer, they kept it for an hour and said there was nothing wrong with my car. so i took it to another dealer. after having my car for a week they were able to duplicate my problem. their computers were hooked up to my car at the time, and showed no faults. so they were back and forth with vw tech support, and they are flying in an engineer, and they think it might be the steering control module malfunctioning. they have had my car for two weeks now, i have no idea when it will be fixed, if ever.

During second vw dealer service at approximately 9,000 miles , check-engine light went on during the process, tech read code as a failure in a secondary air-flow sensor, part was replace and the light was off. at third vw dealer service at 17,000 miles, approximately one week after the service, the check-engine light went on at start-up. checked gas cap, re-seated and light did not clear. as of this report problem coded: p2431, p2433, secondary air injection pressure sensor circuit out of range, a quick google search revealed similar errors in conjunction with oil and filter changes.

My vw jetta tdi stalled while coming to a stop sign after the clutch was depressed. it did this occasionally during the first year of ownership. after a year of ownership and a dozen or so incidents, the car started to stall multiple times during a one half-hour commute. twice recently, once on my way to work and once on my way back, the car stalled two and three times respectively. it even stalled on the highway going 65 mph when the clutch was depressed. usually, it stalls when coming to a red light or stop sign when the clutch is depressed in order to take the car out of gear. at 12000 miles, the engine light came on and off a few times and then remained on. the diesel particulate filter and egr valve were replaced which is highly unusual for a car with such low mileage. also, after my 20000 mile service the engine light went on again and the dealer replaced the #4 exhaust gas temperature sensor. before the 20k service i had called the dealer the day i stalled 3 times and reported my engine light went on. i went to the dealer a few days later, thursday, for the service and the light had gone out by then. the dealer said there was a software update for the ecm to be done in addition to the regular service. i left the dealer after the 20k service only to have my engine light go on again and the car stall again. so i went back to the dealer and that is when they changed the #4 exhaust gas temperature sensor. it did not sound to me like a proper fix for this problem as i believe it could be either an electronic glitch with the ecm or other electrical components or some fuel system problem whereby fuel flow is interrupted when going from load to no load scenarios, i.e. clutch engaged. anyhow, i stalled again two miles from the dealer from which i had driven. the dealer says they can't duplicate it or find any codes related to it. they will call vw again.

My 2010 vw jetta tdi has had 5 episodes of stalling (actually it does not stall in the normal sense of the word, the engine just stops running). in all 5 incidents the car needed to be placed in park, the ignition needed to be turned off and then the car could be restarted and ran normally. in 4 of the incidents it was either raining or had just recently rained. the 5th incident had high humidity. the o2 sensor has been updated twice. the first time as a response to the problem, the second time as part of normal maintainence.

I purchased my 2010 jetta tdi new at the end of september 2009. it is a manual transmission. i'm a pretty conservative driver and attempt to maximize my mpg. each day after the vehicle has been setting overnight and is cold, i start up and drive to the store, a 4 mile drive, the engine will pause usually within that 4 mile drive. sometimes it is a short jerk and sometimes it is a greater jerk. other times it will happen on the return trip home. but it'll happen only once until it sets and cools off. i have had it in the shop twice with no help. my research finds some problems with the high pressure fuel pump which may be the issue, but i haven't been able to talk to vw america to see if they will confirm or deny this. this problem has happened since i've had the vehicle. it has 6,500 miles on it and i'm hoping to get it fixed before the warranty expires. not sure what will happen when the mileage gets higher.

This vehicle has experienced continual problems with engine shuddering and stalling. mostly, while in 2nd , 3rd or 4th gear, early on into a trip the engine will suddenly decelerate and in some case stall out completely. it is as if there is a sudden loss in fuel getting to the engine. this started soon after purchasing the car. it has been into the dealership numerous (6 or 7) times for this warranty issue, including extended stay periods of seven and ten days. first they faulted my fuel, then they replaced the fuel pump, then they have done other work and replaced components, but claim they can not make the car fail as i have reported. they claim to have alerted vw and had a vw technical advisers look at this car. they refuse to do any additional warranty work on the car for this issue since they can not diagnose it. i have kept a log of these failures since my last servicing. between 10/22/2010 to 3/12/2011 this vehicle has had 19 of these failure events. they usually occur when the outside air temperature is above 32 degrees fahrenheit. the vehicle is still under warranty (28,500 miles on the odometer). i am finding other owners experiencing similar problems. please help.

I purchased a 6-speed manual transmission jetta-tdi at the end of december of 2009. i have been driving manual transmission cars since 1975, and i was upset that my car was stalling either just starting out in first or in the lower rpm range of the lower gears when turning and moving through intersections or trying to go uphill when the rpms were in the lower range. keeping the rpms up a bit seems to have helped, as i am not having it stall as much as before. i also noticed what seemed like a slight hesitation or jerking when cruising . it would be just for a split second and then be gone my accident occurred when i was parallel parking on a hill. i went to back up a bit to straighten out my car and it stalled, rolling forward into the car parked in front of me. fortunately, no one was injured. damage was minor, but was submitted to my insurance company. at this point i was just blaming myself for not being able to adjust to the difference of clutching with a diesel engine because i couldn't figure out how to explain it. then a heard 2 radio reports about the complaints being filed. i called vw of america who listened to my story. they told me that in order to be compensated for my accident, that i would have needed to have had the car towed immediately to a dealership and had it diagnosed. she suggested that i take it to be diagnosed. i took it to the dealer who kept it for two days and could not find anything wrong. a week later, i was coming to a stop for a red light and the rpms began to fluctuate like it was going to stall and then it would come back to normal rpms. when i started to drive it was a little rough, then smoothed out. i called vw of america who recommended that i take it back to the dealer. i am waiting for them to return my call. i have also 3 intermittent problems with my am radio cutting out--are the problems connected?

Multiple incidents that appear to be the same problem/defect. 1. the car sometimes will not start for several minutes, and once it does finally start, has a very rough idle and stalls. after several tries, it finally starts and runs normally. this has happened 7-8 times from july 2010 until the present. 2. now, over the past two months, the car tries to stall out while driving also, and has resulted in my wife having to pull off the road and restart the car. this has only happened twice so far, but the starting and rough idle problem continues to occur approximately once every couple of weeks. on another note, i want to ensure that if any recalls occur as a result of everybody's complaints, that u.s. military stationed overseas are not left out. many of us purchase these u.s. spec cars from local dealer agencies who (re)import the cars back to europe for this purpose. oftentimes recalls are not enforceable overseas, however, this is a volkswagen and there are plenty of authorized vw dealers in germany, and in europe as a whole.

I was driving on a secondary highway going only 30 mph when a warning light came on. at the same time the engine started running very rough. i immediately pulled the car to the side of the road. at the side of the road with the engine off, i pulled out the jetta handbook to research the meaning of the warning light. the light blinking was the engine malfunction light. after that i called the vw 800 road side program, a tow truck came and towed the jetta to the dealer. now this morning i go to the dealership and they inform me the cost of getting this new car fixed will be $6,800.00. with that information i have to ask why and the dealership proceeds to say i have bad fuel. the comment by the dealership triggered all types of responses. the first response was proof i put the right type of fuel in the tank which i did. next i had to go and get a sample of fuel from the filling station. after that i delivered a sample of the fuel in question to the dealership for testing. as it turns out the fuel was okay. while i am running around doing all of this my wife finds out via the internet of issues the jetta is having with the fuel pump. keep in mind, at no point has the dealership given me information regarding a possible fuel pump issue, which would be a warranty issue, aka no cost to me! it is now 5:20 pm and i have not heard from the dealership. now i have another issue, is the dealership trying to defraud me? and if so the dealership will have big problems.

We have 2010 vw jetta tdi and we have the stalling problems. it started about 3 months after we bought the vehicle. in ca highway traffic i had the car stall on me 15 times, i was wreck by the time i was able to exit the highway. i refuse to drive the car anymore. it has been to the dealership now 6 times to fix the problem and they keep giving us all these stupid reasons and then tell us they can't duplicate the stalling problem so they can't fix it. i just want the problem fixed and i am tried of getting the run around with volkswagen on this. obviously there is a problem with these cars. we take it the dealer it runs great for about 2 days and then the check engine light comes on and then 4 hours later the glow plug light comes on and back to the dealer we go with nothing in the end. they keep telling us it is electrical nothing to do with the fuel problem. it is extremly frustrating that volkswagen won't do anything about this problem.

My 2010 jetta tdi sedan has stalled 3 times on me in the past few weeks. on the first occasion, i had come off a freeway, driven two blocks on a street, and was making a left. the car stalled and the battery light came on. i put it in neutral and restarted the car. two weeks later, i was making a left into a parking lot and the same thing occurred. the car stalled but started immediately. on 2/22/11, i was driving through a parking lot and the car stalled again. luckily, no driver was behind me. i had the car serviced by vw van nuys, ca but they were unable to replicate the problem and could find no trace of it.

During the first month of owndership, i was driving down the highway at 55 mph and preparing to stop for stoplight, the car stalled at speed; i assumed that it was due to being unaccustomed to the gearing. i have also had several instances in which after the car had been sitting in the parking lot during work, i pulled out and the car stumbled, but did not stall. however, i did need to engage the clutch several times. also, after the same circumstances, i pulled out successfully and felt the car lose power suddenly, as if there was not enough gas/air to keep going.

2010 volkswagen jetta repeatedly shuts off while driving. power and accessories work (ac, radio) but engine will not restart unless car is placed in park and key is turned off and then on again. attempting to restart the engine with the transmission in neutral does not work. this has happened while accelerating, while stopped and after sudden braking. twice on the freeway (est speed 65 mph) and once when stopped while going downhill.

 1. driving normally on highway when it came on and the car lost power suddenly and could not accelerate any further. also car stalled several times on its own while idling at a traffic light (its an automatic transmission this should not be happening). 2. this is the second time this same problem has happened in first 20k miles of this vehicle its an 2010 vw tdi. first time it was at 9800 mile mark same light and problem came on they replaced a egr valve and now again at 19800miles. 3. they have replaced a part at 9800 miles and now replacing it again at 19800miles. it seems to be a repeat problem with this vehicle and very dangerous to have it slow down like that while driving and also stall out while in traffic.
