The 2004 volkswagen beetle has a safety belt warning system that triggers a series of warning beeps every thrity seconds if the safety belt is not fastened. this presents a serious distraction while driving and clearly poses a safety hazard. aside from the obvious case of someone choosing to break the law by choosing not to wear a seat belt, the problem also presents itself to those who don't use a safety belt for medical reasons, those who live in or travel to a state that does not reuire use, or most importantly anyone who places a package weighing more than 25 +/- lbs on the front passenger seat (which is quite common because of the limited truck space in the convertible). the warning beeps are loud and clearly disracting while driving.
