This car is horrible! at 70,000 miles the car would jerk while it was driving. it was especially scarry if it started to jerk/kick while on the freeway. i got a new transmission, new engine. then 20,000 miles later, it did it again and now volkswagen said it needs a new transmission! again! more jerking, and it became worse after i took it to the dealership to get it fixed under waranty i will complain to the bbb as well. horrible that i put so much money in only to be told that the car still wont work. saftey problems as well

Have had issues with the front automatic windows in this car since august 2008. in may 2010 the rear windows would go up part way and then go back down. i had repairs done (reinstalled window seal at a cost of $96.00) then in september of 2011 the other rear window would not go up and the dealer said that i needed a kit to correct the problem of the cables binding up and keeping the window from going up. this repair cost $800. today the other rear window will not go up and is making the familiar grinding sound. i suppect that i will need to go to the dealer and get a kit for this window which is the one that had the seal replaced on it. another $800.00 or so for something that will only temporarily fix this issue. i have only had the back windows down on this vehicle maybe a dozen times since i've owned it. this is clearly a cheap and faulty design by the manufacturer. if i do not continue to make these repairs i cannot properly secure my vehicle and risk damage or theft.

Had a very hard time getting the top to come up enough to latch numerous times on a road trip. as suddenly as the problem started it went away. but when that problem stopped, i was left with a severe rattle on the passenger side and a quarter back window on the same side that looks mis-aligned with the front window and leaves a gap, lets wind in and quite often doesn't come completely shut. on october 6, i put my top down to drive about 5 miles home. when i got home, the top wouldn't come up. i got out and gently pulled on the top, got back in and eventually it came up. exactly one week later, i put the top down and i noticed that the driver's side back 1/4 window was stuck halfway down. tried to put it up and heard a nasty little sound which continued whenever i pressed the button for that window. i had to finally get a gentleman to help me pull it up. in the last couple of months i replaced the battery (a real whipping to get in and out) followed a week later by a driver's side front light bulb for which i was charged $100 and the mechanic did the change in less than 10 minutes. i've replaced back-up lights so many times i've actually learned how to do it myself. vw of america needs to be forced to do something about the window regulators, top problems, electrical problems, transmission problems etc. etc. i am a single female with no garage to park in if the quirky top and windows decide not to come up. i am also limited on budget and the design of this car causes labor charges that are astronomical to do the simplist of things. pretty sure i have the window regulator problem where they want to charge $900 per side. the labor charge to replace a batter is over $100. the window problems have been going on with vw for a very long time. i've had 3 and had numerous window problems in every one of them.

My passenger window regulator needs to be fixed $400-500. ok, but i already replaced the one on the drivers side rear window. i am reading this is a problem. should be a recall item.

Rear passenger window stuck down in 2005 new beetle convertible - there is apparently a nationwide backorder on this rear window regulator of at least 2 months which means this is a major problem affecting many vw drivers and vw should clearly have a recall - leaving my car with a window open is not at all ideal and i will have to carefully plan out where i park the car until the part is located and installed.

Left rear window regulator needs replaced. $675 for the repair. left front window squeals when raising/lowering and sometimes when raising it - when it gets to the top it just pops back down and you have to raise it again. suspect the regulator to be at fault on this window as well. the window regulator on vw products seem to have a pretty bad track record. what can be done to have vw step up and fix these shoddy parts? i can't afford to have this fixed! now i just have to keep driving with my window partially up.

I have 2005 vw beetle convertible with only 43351 miles on it. recentlly i had to replace water pump due to the impleller being made of plastice attached to metal and now my rear window regulators have broken and wont roll up or down the windows. i paid $650.00 to fix water pump and was told i could expect to replace it again in 40000 miles due to its poor manufacturing. this from a volkwagen mechanic. a week later the window regulators on my beetle also broke. looking through the internet i found alot of complaints with volkswagen for the same thing that im experiencing with my car. i can understand nothing is perfect it just seems to me that everyone experiencing the same type problems with similiar vehicles both year model and make and someone need to protect the consumer now. i hope enough people complain to institute a recall for volkwagen to act upon.

My hard-shifting beetle's transmission needs replacing! i drove my last beetle for 10 years! now this car, only now 6 years old has a failing transmission? this began very slowly. when i had the car at the dealer for the airbag sensor recall i asked about it but we couldn't replicate it. now they recall the valve body, a part within the transmission, yet vw has denied my claim to the warranty. they state my transmission is entirely ruined and the valve body replacement will not solve the problem now. well what else could have caused this other than the faulty valve body? this car is completely unsafe to drive. the car lurches forward from neutral to 1st gear, then clunks through the rest of the gears. please help get these dangerous cars off the road.

The driver's side rear window no longer opens or closes. this has happened before on the passenger side and, luckily, vw replaced the regulator on that side under warranty during the 1st year of ownership. all it does now is make a 'grinding' noise. a local vw repair shop said they have had a lot of these - there is a defect in vw's regulator. it's a convertible, and you can't put the top down now. the window will not go up or down, and is presently held in place with a rubber door stop. last vw in our stable, for sure!

Defective window regulator - driver's side rear power window 2005 vw new beetle convertible

Transmission slipping in a 2005 volkswagen beetle with 71,000 miles, i have been told by several repair shops that the manufacturer knows there is a problem with them but will not do anything about it. driver's side rear window regulator became defective at 59,000 miles and when i contacted the manufacturer was told in order for them to assist with problem it must be diagnosed by a dealer. drove 60 miles and was charged $100 to diagnose the problem (which i already knew what the problem was) and then was told that because of the mileage they could not help me. manufacturer knew the mileage prior to requesting me to take to dealer. cost of replacing a window regulator $600, there is a kit that can be installed, but of course that information is not given to the customer.
