AIR BAGS - SIDE/WINDOW

My daughter was exiting i-4 onto i-95 in daytona beach, fl. she was traveling about 45 mph, when the michilen tire on the right front wheel came off. this caused her to lose control of the 2002 vw jetta (30,000 miles) and roll the vehicle. she was injured and the only car involved in the accident. none of the airbags deployed. i am concerned that the side airbag should have deployed lessening her injuries, as her head hit the side of the car and has caused great problems. *jb
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - IGNITION

While driving in the afternoon, my vehicle suddenly lost power and acceleration capability with the check engine light coming on and blinking. i took it to the dealer immediately. i am informed my 2002 vw jetta 1.8t has 3 faulty coils. the failure was sudden and without warning. i maintain my car according to vw specs. in 02/2003 vw acknowledged a problem with this in over 530,000 2001 to early 2003 vehicles. i feel the failure was premature (as to what could be typically expected of an engine/vehicle for reliability), and a danger. obviously the fact that it has remanifested in such a short period of time shows that it was not properly addressed with the original fix only 2 years ago. my vehicle was unable to adequately maintain itself within the flow of traffic. i was lucky to get to the 'slow lane' without incident. vw disclaims any responsibility for defect or otherwise and says that because the vehicle is out of its warranty period i am responsible ($454.00). i will pay this, but how can i drive knowing that these coils could stop all or any one cylinder from correctly firing? this could kill me and the manufacturer does not care.. as they quite bluntly stated. *nm
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - WIRING
12/07/200454900403/20/2002
Repeat incidents leading to consumer's long term driveability concerns. worrisome panel indicator lights -- flashing: engine warning and glow plug (diesel) lights within current lease period. after first two incidents, the third (then under warranty) was found to be due to a factory defect. and repaired?...dec 7 '04, at about 55k -- blinking lights again. dealer diagnostic indicated no engine problem (this was the same result of the two previous before the third resulted in a major warranty repair). this has been diagnosed as an accelerator sensor failure. (the part will not be available for three (3) days; we are advised to drive carefully until the part can be replaced.) this sensor failure is then one of several others in this particular vehicle: the fuel guage has been replaced once or twice; the seat heater sensor just, and out-of-warranty, burned a hole in the front seat (three weeks awaiting factory reps 'get-back.'). an air conditioning problem (leak) was also noted and repaired at about 50,000 miles.*ak

Engine coil failed-lost empoyment. one dealer stated fixed problem, months later another dealer stated never fixed then they replaced. all rear lights off-near accident, dealer fixed, engine noise -dealer not fixed yet fear future engine leak as read in other car owner reviews 2002 vw jetta 1.8t. *ak
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING - COOLING SYSTEM - HOSE

(vr6) my car is a commuter car, and as i approached 60000 miles the hose#1j0121086 that provides water to the water system blew. my vehicle shut down on the freeway, and had to be towed. it was taken to the nearest mechanic to be repaired. the hose that was needed was not available through vw in us or canada. i ordered the hose from germany, and had the coils (which were defective) repaired by a vw dealer immediately after this happened. one week later of driving off the lot the hose blew again. the second time the hose blew i was on the freeway and my car would not start at all. i am paying for a car that i have only used two weeks in the past 2-1/2 months. vw claims this is not their problem and that there is no defect to the original hose that had been installed. help!! this last time my car broke down i was told by vw to tow to the nearest vw dealer to diagnose. being the nearest was not the dealer i always serviced my car they claim that the car has to be towed to the same service center for the history to be applied and considered for my issues. *ak

I have taken my 2002 vw jetta turbo to the dealer numerous times in the past year that i have owned it, including two days after i purchased it for a check engine light. in the past two months, my car has been at the dealer's service dept more than i have driven it. i just picked up my car last wednesday, and the light came on again today. *nm

My 2002 vw jetta experienced a recall problem (n4, brake light switch) and i fixed it through a nearest mechanic because 1) the closest vw dealer is 100 mile away 2) i was scare to drive 100 mile on highway without a proper brake light. however, vw refused to reimburse me for the repairs since i fixed it through an independent facility. i am so sad and disappointed that vw is not considering divers life and safety seriously and is willing to push us to drive hundred miles with a recalled car without a brake light. *tr

POWER TRAIN - AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

I have spent over 9000.00 since 2004 on repairs on my vw jetta. i complained to the authorized repair shop that my car had to warm up when it was 90 degrees outside for it run without slowing down and almost stopping. i took my car in had bushings replaced and they said my temperature sensor needed replacing. when i got the car back i was having the same problem. i took the car back now they are saying that i need a valve body replaced to the tune of $1600.00. even then there is no guarantee the problem will be fixed. the other option is to get a new transmission replaced for $3500.00. i honestly think all of these cars are lemons and i would never buy another volkswagen product in my life. *tr

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC
06/19/2008683001
When gently applying pressure to the brake pedal the brakes would suddenly fully engage for a moment and then return to normal. this occurred every time the brakes were applied. there were no consequences in my case, but it is not hard to imagine this causing a car to be hit from the rear or causing a loss of control in slippery conditions. to correct the situation the brake booster needed to be replaced. *tr
SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC - POWER ASSIST - VACUUM

Brake booster is failing after use in traffic. the brake pedal slowly sinks and when lightly tapped, it slams to the floor. when this happens, a loud suction can be heard inside the car, and the brakes are applied fully. this usually happens after brakes are used some time, say in a traffic jam. there is a site, tdiclub.com, which has forums where many people talk about this problem on their 2002 model year vw jetta. the danger is that the brakes come on fully, which startles not only the driver and passenger(s), but the vehicles that are following. this is an intermittent problem (brake booster failure) but can be replicated if the brakes are used heavily. when the problem starts to happen, it will continue until the brakes are not used for quite some time. once this started happening today, virtually every other application of the brakes caused the symptoms above. this occurred about seven times this day. this has been happening intermittently for a few years. *tr
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
06/15/2011130000
While driving the car at 35mph the tachometer will increase and decease at 2000rpm's and car will slightly increase and then decrease in speed. there is a jerking between 3rd and 4th gear. also there is a slight delay of movement from park to reverse. both are safety hazards while on streets with traffic.

I own a 2002 volkswagen jetta gls tdi. this car has a surging problem during normal or crouse control, occurring between 40 and 50 mph. the car has been returned to the dealership many times without being repaired, dating back to oct. 2003. last year it spent 31 days at the dealer, may 10, 2004 through june 10, 2004, returned to me working better. within two days the problem was now worse. i am afraid that this car may surge and take off leaving me unable to stop or control. this car is a saftey hazard in my opinion. i have tried to work with vw but they refuse to replace it and are unable to repair it. vin 3vwsp60m92m151087. anything that you could do would be much welcomed. thank you.*ak

I purchased the car new in june as a left over, had it a month and the window on the drivers side fell to the bottom of the door. brought it to the dealer and was told they replaced it with metal clips and it wouldn't happen again. 5 months later it happened again, same window. *jb
