| I am the second owner of this 00 vw passat . this car has been a great running and driving car. i bought it in feb 10 2012 . on sept 17 2012 my wife was driving this car to my sons football game with my mother in law. she was going about 50 mph when it shuttered and shut off . she was able to get it off the side of the road and stopped and when she opened the car door there were flames coming from under the hood she went to the other side of the car and helped her mother out of the car. the flames were spreading so fast they were not able to get anything out of the car. by the the time they got to the other side of the road away from the car the whole car was on fire. and when the fire department got there there was nothing left but some melted things in the trunk. i am just happy they made it out ok but what worries me is that it happened so fast and that there were no signs of anything wrong with the car .i have seen on the internet that this is not a isolated incident with this 00 passat. i have seen pictures and video of the same car with the same results. so right now i am at a total loss this being a second car i only had liability insurance all i can do is hope that someone can stop this from happening to someone else and it should be volkswagen's responsibility to find who owns these vehicles and fix the problem..... | |||

| 2000 volkswagon passat 1.8t automatic transmission purchased used in 2007. the under carriage protectant shield for engine looked to be melted from heat and came off on the hwy while vechicle was in motion. damaged right wheel well. | |||

| Passenger rear window regulator went out on mine first with a crunching sound and then the glass just fell into the door. i have already replaced the passenger front regulator. typical cheap plastic vw parts. | |||

| My 2000 vw passat 4 motion has 9k miles. just reciently the abs brakes lights came on and the car puts on the brakes by its self. you are driving 65 mph and the car slams on the brakes. feels like you have hit a big hole in the road, but only with the front wheels. very scarry | |||

| A fire occurred in the passenger compartment of my 2000 volkswagen passat 4motion wagon. the fire occurred while i was traveling east on us 80 near auburn. my life was saved because a county sheriff was traveling behind me and summoned the fire department and police as i hurried to exit ca 49 at auburn, california. flames and smoke filled the passenger compartment, which the fire department flooded. the car has been totaled. i have instructed my insurance company, aaa, not to destroy the car for parts in light of the vw safety recall 26e5/rf (1999-2002 model year volkswagen passat and passat wagon.) i incurred considerable expense (car rentals over the six months that aaa insurance took to settle the claim). i have also had to purchase a new vehicle at a cost to me of more that $25,000 over the paid claim. i would like to be made whole, following this costly and extremely dangerous situation. the fire department and aaa determined that the fire was an electrical fire that began in the electrical system behind the dashboard in the passenger compartment. mary coady *tr | |||
