We have a 2002 1.8l passat that was affected by the defective coils in the 2003/2004 recall. now less than 5 years later, 2 coils failed at once with complete loss of power and all 4 need to be replaced. luckily we were driving were we could safely get out of traffic but if it had happened on the highway, we could have been killed. i wonder if the replacement coils were also defective. *tr

Nar 3-10-03 with the consumer vehicle having less than 7000 miles, many problems occurred, the front and rear windows froze from the inside, the vehicle began to stall, the ignition coil needed to be replaced, the glove compartment flooded when it rained or snowed, also the carpets and pollen filter were damaged due to the flood. the consumers was very disappointed and suggested that a full refund be given or have volvo to give them a new 2003 passat, equally equipped as the 2002 at the same purchase price. *cb *jb

Volkswagen has knowingly installed defective coil packs on 2002 1.8l engines. all 4 of mine blew, and they replaced them with the same type and re-flashed the ecu to retard timing and dwell. this is a known and serious problem that should warrant a recall. dt
SUSPENSION - MULTIPLE AXLE

I have my oil changed every 5000 miles as suggested. at 48,880 miles my oil was changed with know problems. at 53880 miles my oil change again. but at this change i was told that the front axel boots were cracked and needed to be changed. i asked since it was just 3,000 miles past warranty if this would be covered. both the dealer and volkswagan said no. i had the axel boots fixed. but after speaking to many people no one has ever heard of axel boots breaking at 53,000 miles. i believe this must be defect with the car, since both axel boots broke at the same time.

I had problems with the faulty ignition coil two times and the second time, they replaced all the coils. here in texas, when the temperature goes down below 28 f ( which is very rare) i am afraid.i can be stuck in the road. hope the coil problem wont happen again. i also have problem with the brakes. its making creaking sounds with the parking brake / hand brake. the technition told me that its natural..i cant beleive that. i gues i have to spend lot of money in near future to replace all those brake parts. also the metal beeding on the roof is coming up. it is not causing any problem, but i have to push it hard almost everyday. i guess vw never tested the car for long time. so far i found so many complaints about passat. hope they will improve it.*ak
