ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The 2006 volkswagen touareg was having electrical problems. there have been several sensors, from the air bags to the gas cap, on the car that have been going off. what was worst was that the car has been in the service shop every other week this past month. there was a hesitation when accelerating. the manufacturer has been told of this along with the dealership, but the manufacturer stated that the car was running in order of operation. the dealership stated that they were very aware of this concern ,and that it was a software problem that they could not fix. the sensors went off while i driving, and when pulling over to check it. everything seemed to be good. i have to turn the car off and restart it, and then it resets itself. the light sensors have gone off and both lights have gone out, one at a time. the dealership couldn't find anything wrong with it. the parking brake would be released, and it will still show that it was on. *ak
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - IGNITION

I am an automobile insurance adjuster. a 2006 vw touareg belonging to one of my customers caught fire at his work. he had taken the car to lunch, then back to work. 30 minutes after his return to work, the engine caught fire. the fire department put it out. both a volkswagen representative and a forensics engineer hired by the insurance company have inspected the damage. the preliminary finding is a faulty ignition coil. it appears vw is going to 'total' this customer's car under warranty, and pay for its replacement. this complaint is only to alert nhtsa that the ignition coil may be a known issue affecting additional vw vehicles. *tr
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - IGNITION - MODULE

I have a 2006 vw touareg only a month old with 2,700 miles. i was not operating the vehicle at the time which was a good thing. i left work started my touareg and is shut off right away and would not start and the key was locked in the ignition. i had to be towed to my local dealer. it was in the shop for two weeks and there was a faulty control module. it was repaired but who knows how long it will last. from my research it appears this exact situation has occurred in the 2004 model year also which was their first year of production. it could have been deadly if this module fialed while driving because i would have had no control of the vehicle. it's terrible to see there has not been a correction since the 2004 model year to address this issue. the touareg has hand many problems since its release in 2004. *nm
