FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE - STORAGE - TANK ASSEMBLY
79V132000VOLVO OF AMERICA CORP.from 08/01/1973 to 07/01/1975V (Vehicle)12100001/31/1980ODIVOLVO CARS OF N.A. LLC.05/30/197910/12/1979
Defect SummaryOn the involved vehicles, there is the possibility that fuel wetting in the drain plug area of the fuel tank could exist. this is caused by a possible soldering inconsistency at the drain plug flange of the fuel tank or an inconsistency of fitting between the drain plug threads. if fuel wetting should occur at the drain plug area, a combustible mixture could result.
Consequence Summary
Corrective SummaryDealer will inspect and replace the fuel tank, if necessary, at no cost to owner.
NotesVehicle description: passenger vehicles.system: fuel; fuel tank assembly.consequences of defect: in the presence of an ignition source, this combustiblemixture may result in a vehicle fire and serious personal injury.
79V048000VOLVO OF AMERICA CORP.from 06/01/1975 to 10/01/1976V (Vehicle)6100003/26/1979ODIVOLVO CARS OF N.A. LLC.02/13/197910/12/1979
Defect SummaryThe involved vehicles contain a potentially defective pressure control valve in the evaporative emission control system which, through excess pressure over extended periods, could cause metal fatigue and eventually fuel vapors to be emitted into the atmosphere through hairline cracks in the fuel tank.
Consequence Summary
Corrective SummaryDealer will inspect the tank and make replacements, if necessary. the valve will be replaced to correct the emission and safety-related problems. certain vehicles will require installation of a filler inlet fuel trap and a feeder pump to eliminate the possibility of fuel surge and vapor lock.
NotesVehicle description: passenger vehicles.system: fuel; fuel tank.consequences of defect: this condition can lead to a fire hazard resulting in avehicle accident and serious personal injury.
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE - STORAGE - TANK ASSEMBLY - FILLER PIPE AND CAP

NotesVolvo campaign nos 24 and 25.possibility rivets used in the fabrication ofthe fuel filler inlet assembly could allow fuel vapors to excape into trunkand/or interior of the vehicles.if this condition exists, vapors ofsufficient quantities to cause occupant discomfort and in extreme casesprolonged exposure can result in dizziness.(correct by inspecting andreplacing defective fuel filter inlet assemblies).model/yr domstart domend.165 1975 12/74 - 9/75.242 1975-76 12/74 - 12/75.244 1975-76 12/74 - 12/75.245 1975-76 12/74 - 12/75.264 1976 8/75 - 12/75.265 1976 8/75 - 12/75.

Defect SummaryUnder adverse conditions of high ambient temperatures, pressures and fuel volatility, fuel may surge when the fuel filler cap is removed in a certain manner. under these same conditions the involved vehicles may develop vapor lock.
Consequence Summary
Corrective SummaryThe dealer will install a baffle in the fuel filler neck to prevent fuel surge and install a new pressure control valve, which will bring about a lower vent pressure. this will be done at no cost to owner.
NotesVehicle description: passenger vehicles.system: fuel; filler caps.consequences of defect: in the presence of high temperatures or an ignitionsource, a fire may start causing vehicle damage and serious personal injury.
LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES - DOORS - LATCH

Corrective Summary
NotesVolvo campaign no 2350075.possibility that an improper dimension bolt on theleft front and/or rear door latch mechanism could allow the door to open fromthe fully latched to secondary latched position and then to the fully openposition when exposed to extensive vibrations as could occur on rough roads.(correct by inspecting and replacing defective latches with improved latches).
STEERING - RACK AND PINION - RACK
76V107000VOLVO OF AMERICA CORP. V (Vehicle)5682009/20/1976MFRVOLVO CARS OF N.A. LLC.07/15/197610/12/1979

Corrective Summary
NotesVolvo campaign no 26.possibility that the fastener used in securing thesteering rack assembly to the front axle member may loosen resulting in loss ofsteering precision and could lead to a loss of steering control.(correct byinspecting and adding nylock nuts to affected u-bolts).passenger vehicle.
STEERING - WHEEL AND HANDLE BAR
74V246000VOLVO OF AMERICA CORP. V (Vehicle)1000001/01/1975MFRVOLVO CARS OF N.A. LLC.12/26/197410/12/1979

Consequence Summary
Corrective Summary
NotesVolvo campaign no 23.possibility of insufficient torque was applied duringassembly which could allow a bolt to become separated from the steering shaftcoupling.this condition would result in reduction of steering precision andultimately in loss of steering control.(correct by inspecting and retorquingnuts where necessary).
SUSPENSION - FRONT - CONTROL ARM - LOWER BALL JOINT
76V106000VOLVO OF AMERICA CORP. V (Vehicle)5682009/20/1976MFRVOLVO CARS OF N.A. LLC.07/15/197610/12/1979

Consequence Summary
Corrective Summary
NotesVolvo campaign no 26.possibility that the bolts securing the lower front balljoint anchorage may come loose, if allowed to go uncorrected could result infront suspension collapse and loss of steering control.(correct by inspectingand replacing bolts and adding tuff-lock feature to bolts).passenger vehicle.
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL - CABLES
77V219000VOLVO OF AMERICA CORP. V (Vehicle)4000003/16/1978ODIVOLVO CARS OF N.A. LLC.12/14/197710/12/1979
Defect SummaryThe involved vehicles are in non-compliance with federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 124, accelerator control systems. the throttle cable plastic sleeve on these vehicles, which is attached to the firewall, could break at the groove for the retaining circlip allowing the buffer spring there to expand and cause an increase in engine speed. also, the throttle cable could become frayed by chafing against incorrectly exposed reinforcing material from the cable sheath, at the engine end of the cable. the cable could then become stuck at any engine speed.
Consequence Summary
Corrective SummaryDealer will replace the accelerator cable and retaining bracket and install new return springs, if necessary, at no cost to owner.
NotesVehicle description: passenger vehicles.system: throttle; accelerator.consequences of defect: if the throttle cable becomes stuck, loss of vehiclecontrol and an accident may result.note: if any unusual accelerator pedal operation is experienced, the vehicleshouldbe brought to a safe stop, the ignition key turned off, and the dealershould be contacted immediately.
