Defect SummaryVehicle description: heavy duty trucks equipped with 15 (widths: 4 and 5) air-actuated q-plus cam brake equipped with federal mogul friction products 3030-197 brake lining (meritor r201) brake linings and actuated with type 20 air chambers x 5.5 slack adjusters. the affected brakes were installed predominantly in heavy truck front axle assemblies. these assemblies do not fully satisfy the test performance requirements of fmvss no. 121, air brake systems.
Consequence SummaryThis condition could cause decreased braking effort.
Corrective SummaryThe brake lining will be replaced with upgraded brake linings.

Defect SummaryVehicle description: heavy duty trucks equipped with trw 20-edl ball-socket assemblies. certain of the ball-socket bearings have a below specification case depth and/or hardness which can lead to premature wear out of the socket. these bearings were produced between july 5 and october 3, 1999.
Consequence SummaryIf this condition occurs, the driver can lose partial control of the right front wheel, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash.

 The 5 air ride suspension valves would dump out while going around curbs or corners or at a stop. rubber ends on tie rods were replaced with metal rods. they were not adjusted correctly enough. vehicle would pull hard to right & then vibrate violently. also, clutch was replaced, but problem still exists. western star 4964. *ak
