ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - WIRING

Motor home was parked for the evening & heard a loud bang and then smelled smoke. instantly pulled the power plug to the motor home and then investigated. found the power switch box had blown up. had to have a new one installed and when i did was told this happens a lot to this type power switch and they installed a different kind as the company that made the original (and it was guaranteed for a lifetime) had gone bankrupt. i had to pay full price for the new one and the installation and was told by winnebago that they were not responsible for other manufacturer's parts they installed in their motor homes and would not honor the guarantee.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE - DELIVERY - HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS
09/01/1999
Restriction in gas fuel line upon filling gas tank creates enormous back pressure shutting the gas pump off when the vehicle gas tank is 5/8 to 3/4 full of fuel. secondly, a safety hazard exist in that if you remove the gas cap after tank has pressurized during operation, the back pressure will cause gas and fumes to escape from fill line into face. this design flaw is a health safety and fire hazard. it is my understanding that ford motor company is responsible for the bad design of the gas fuel filler line but will not accept ownership for the design flaw nor the corrective action to rectify. there are two thousand 1999 chassis produced by the ford motor co. these chassis are or were used for motor home other than winnebago as well as winnebago. winnebago says ford knows of the problem but refuses to do anything about it. my understanding winnebago is testing a design that will correct the problem. maybe. at this point ford nor winnebago plan no recall. there appears in my opinion an effort to bury the problem rather than seeking a solution. when i purchased the rv no one at lamesa rv or winnebago informed me of the inherent design flaw thereby masking a material fact that if known would have greatly affected my decision to purchase the winnebago.

Filling fuel will stop at 3/4 tank capacity. *ak

Unable to fill gas tank. pump automatic shut off stops about 3/4 of capacity. to complete filling tank requires continuously re-clicking pump 30-50 times, each time a small squirt of gas enters the tank. this continues until an additional 10-15 gallons has been pumped, sometime leading to gas running out on the ground since ignoring the automatic shut off (normally indicating a full tank). winnebago has researched this and indicates this is a ford problem. ford says they are looking into it (they have been saying this since my purchase in aug 1999). you may email me if you have any questions.

When filling fuel, the gas nozzle stops at about 3/4 full of the tank capacity. i complaint to the dealer where i purchase my motorhome and they said that there are no solution for this problem. ford and winnebago are pointing fingers at each other and there are no solution for this problem. until now, they continue to sell motorhome with this problem.

10/01/200220000208/01/2001
Vehicle comes equipped with an automatic emergency parking brake, that engages when vehicle is put into park. when parking brakes go out of adjustment it doesn't hold and vehicle rolls forward.*ak consumer put the transmission in park to set the brake. when he and his wife started to exit he vehicle, it started to roll. the consumer had to gather rock to hold the vehicle in place. the brake shoes were replaced and the brakes were adjusted at an independent truck shop ($200.). consumer again experienced the same defect in august of 2003. another independent truck co. attempted to adjust the brakes just so the consumer could get by ($144.). later he found a gm truck dealer who replaced the brake shoes and two brake cables (over $700.) the repairman stated the cable was to close to the exhaust system resulting in failure. the cable wasn't releasing the brake shoes causing them to burn out and fail. there was no warning on the dash to indicate any type of brake failure. *ph *nlm
PARKING BRAKE - DRIVELINE - HYDRAULIC
05/05/20051
1999 gm p32 chassis motorhome. auto apply brake pressure switch part number 15961566 leaked out transmission fluid causing the parking brake to engage while vehicle was traveling at 55 mph and thus bringing the motorhome to an abrupt stop. the transmission fluid, in leaking, was sprayed over the exhaust system and created alot of smoke as the hot exhaust burned off the oil. since this occured on a busy highway at night( new york 684 southbound a few miles north of the armond exit) it placed the vehicle and its occupants in a dangerous situation for a period of 50 minutes until the brake could be temporaly disabled in order to get the occupants and vehicle out of danger. no state troopers went past in this time frame.
